Can you believe horse tails can make clothes? Sui women in Guizhou were the first to use horsehair in clothes.
The thread (绣线) is special. It mixes horsehair with other threads. This makes the thread both colorful and strong. More than 2,000 years ago, Sui people began using horsehair for embroidery (刺绣). Women sewed (绣) it on straps for carrying babies. They thought horses would protect their children and bring them wealth (财富).
Today, Sui women put embroidery on clothes and shoes. They create patterns (花样) like butterflies, birds, fish, and the sun. In Sui villages, most women who do embroidery are over 40 years old. They learned the skills from their mothers when they were young. To save this tradition, some people are teaching it to others now. One piece of work may take over a year—even for skilled workers. But many Sui people still work hard to protect and pass down this special culture.

During the Spring Festival, you always see red paper cuttings with lucky patterns (图案;花样) pasted on windows or doors—those delicate artworks are more than just decorations. Paper cutting, in fact, is a traditional art form in China with a long history. For thousands of years, people have loved this art. It is not just a craft, but a treasure of Chinese culture.
People make paper cuttings with simple tools: paper, scissors, and sometimes glue. The process is interesting. First, you prepare the materials. Then, you draw a design—often familiar patterns like flowers, animals, or lucky symbols. Next, you cut carefully with scissors. Finally, you can hang up the paper cutting in your living room, bedroom, or balcony to decorate the house.
Paper cutting is important in many festivals. During Spring Festival, families often put red paper cuttings on windows or doors. It brings joy and good luck. People also share paper cuttings with friends and neighbors, which helps build a warm community.

In 1984, Lin Yongmao began to work at the museum of Xianyang, Shaanxi Province. There he read some books about the Xianyang Chengni inkstone, and then decided to revive the lost skills. He said, “I have decided to bring the skills back to life.”
38 It took the father and son two years to find proper materials to make the Chengni inkstone. That was just the first step. Controlling the temperature during the process was even more challenging. 39 Their Chengni inkstones won a gold prize at an expo on China’s famous inkstones.
But the father and son did not stop there. While improving the skills of making the Chengni inkstone, they set up a workshop in the hope of passing the skills on to young people. 40 At the same time, Lin Tao has created special Chengni inkstone products and brought them to competitions at home and abroad to increase the influence of the Chengni inkstone.
