Last month, Mrs Wang asked us to write a short story for homework. The topic (话题) was free, so everyone felt excited. But my best friends, Tom and Emma, had very different ideas about how to finish it.
Tom finished his story in ten minutes. “I just asked ChatGPT to write it,” he said. “Then I changed a few words. Easy.”
Emma looked surprised. “That’s not writing,” she said. “The homework is for us to practise, not for a robot.”
“The teacher won’t know. And the robot wrote much better than me,” Tom said.
“I spent two hours on my story. It’s not perfect, but every word is mine. I don’t want to cheat,” Emma said.
Two days later, Mrs Wang handed back our homework. Tom got an A. Emma got a B+. Emma smiled, but Tom looked unhappy.
“What’s wrong?” I asked Tom.
“Mrs Wang wrote ‘Good story, but next time, write it yourself’,” Tom said quietly. “She knew.”

My Best Friend and I
My best friend is Tom. We have a lot in common. Both of us like reading books and playing basketball. We also enjoy listening to pop music.
But we are different in some ways. Tom is taller than me and he is more outgoing. He likes talking with different people. However, I am quiet and I prefer to stay alone when I am free. I am better at English, while Tom does well in math.
I think good friends don't need to be the same. True friendship can help us learn from each other and make progress together.
