A
As more people move from paper to screens, one question often comes up: Which way helps us learn better? For careful reading, paper usually works better. For quick searches, a screen is the smarter choice.
When you hold a book or printed pages, your hands and eyes work together. You can feel how much you’ve read and see where ideas are on a page. These small clues (线索) help your brain build a map of the text. With that in mind, you can slow down, think carefully, and find the right place again. For example, on a quiz about dinosaurs, you might remember, “That fact was near the beginning, at the bottom right, next to a picture.”
Phones and tablets are designed for quick messages, videos, and games, and these can pull your attention away. Once you lose focus, it’s easy to miss the main point. What’s more, many people begin screen reading in a playful mood. In this way, your brain wants fast, fun things, so you begin to look through the text instead of pausing (暂停) to connect ideas. As a result, you forget details and don’t read deeply.
Even so, screens have clear strengths. Checking a message or looking up a fact is faster: type a word and it appears. One tablet can also hold hundreds of books, allowing students to carry and share texts easily.
When you have both paper and a screen, the real question isn’t “screen or paper,” but “what does this task need?” Always remember: match the tool to the task.
21. How does the writer start the text?
A. By telling a story. B. By using a saying.
C. By listing numbers. D. By asking a question.
22. What does the underlined “that” in paragraph 2 refer to?
A. The book. B. The map.
C. The idea. D. The picture.
23. What can we learn about playful mood from paragraph 3?
A. Readers read quickly and with less effort.
B. Readers remember more details than with print.
C. Readers stop checking messages during reading.
D. Readers become more careful and spend more effort.
24. Which words best describe the strengths of screens?
A. Fast and easy to carry. B. Deep and long-lasting.
C. Organized and up-to-date. D. Detailed and picture-rich.
25. What does the writer want to tell us?
A. Students should use paper for learning all the time.
B. Students should develop a wide range of reading skills.
C. Students should choose their reading tool based on the task.
D. Students should spend more time developing good reading habits.
B
Sharks are fast hunters, and their skin is a big reason why. Scientists often learn from nature. By studying shark skin, they turned careful observations (观察) into useful inventions.
Shark skin has a special design. It is covered with millions of tiny, hard skin pieces. These pieces look like small teeth and line up from head to tail. Such tiny lines guide water, allowing it to move more smoothly. The same pattern also keeps tiny sea animals from sticking, so the skin stays cleaner. Thanks to this design, sharks can swim faster and use less energy.
People used this idea to make better swimsuits. In the 1970s and 1980s, researchers such as Dietrich closely studied shark skin. Years later, they worked with the company Speedo and made the Fastskin swimsuit. The suit’s cloth (布料) has tiny, tooth-shaped lines that successfully copy shark skin. At the 2000 Sydney Olympics, swimmers wearing Fastskin won about 83% of the medals.
Engineers used the same idea on ships. Sea life can build up on the bottom of ships, slowing them down and wasting fuel (燃料). To fix this, they put special coatings (涂层) with tiny patterns like shark skin on the bottom. With fewer sea creatures sticking there, ships need less cleaning and use less fuel. That saves money and cuts pollution.
From a fast fish to faster humans, shark skin shows that nature is a great teacher. When we keep exploring, watch closely, and test our ideas, we can turn wild clues into real inventions.
26. What can we learn about shark skin from paragraph 2?
A. It has a common design. B. It slows the shark down.
C. It makes water flow faster. D. It is covered by tiny sea animals.
27. Why does the writer mention (提及) the 2000 Sydney Olympics in paragraph 3?
A. To report the event’s results. B. To praise the swimmers’ performance.
C. To show the success of the Fastskin swimsuit. D. To compare swimmers from different countries.
28. What is paragraph 4 mainly about?
A. It explains why ships pollute the sea.
B. It describes problems ships face at sea.
C. It explains why engineers study shark skin.
D. It shows how a shark-skin design improves the ships.
29. Which of the following shows the structure of the text?
A. B. C. D.
30. What is the best title for the text?
A. Shark Skin Makes Swimmers Faster B. Shark Skin Brings Better Swimsuits
C. Shark Skin Inspires Great Inventions D. Shark Skin Solves Environmental Problems

例文
Dear Mr. David,
I’m glad to hear from you. You asked about smartwatches among students in Shenzhen, and I’d like to share my ideas.
Nowadays, smartwatches are popular. They have many functions, such as making calls, sending messages and even paying. On the one hand, they help parents keep in touch with us easily, which ensures safety. On the other hand, some students play games on them in class. This affects study badly.
In my opinion, smartwatches are helpful tools. However, we should use them wisely. I suggest schools make rules to stop using them during class time.
Yours,
Li Hua
