B Everyone wants to look good, but my classmate Lisa paid a heavy price for it. Last term, a famous singer's slim figure was all over the internet. "I want to slim down too," Lisa said. Under this pressure, she began to skip breakfast, and then dinner. Her daily diet was just half an apple and a cup of black coffee — an extreme plan that no doctor would recommend. The fear of gaining weight hung over her all day. Within two weeks, the negative side effects appeared. Lisa could no longer concentrate in class, and her memory grew weaker. One afternoon, during a PE lesson, her face turned pale and her breathing became faint. Suddenly, she passed out on the playground. Our frightened teacher took her to the school clinic immediately. The doctor's words were plain but powerful: "Your body cannot function without enough food. When the amount of energy you take in is far less than what you use, something is sure to go wrong. Slimming down never means giving up meals." Lisa followed the doctor's advice and returned to a normal diet with yogurt, eggs and vegetables. To our relief, her strength and energy soon came back. A month later, she was running happily on the playground again. "Health is what really matters," she told me. "I was fighting a losing battle against my own body, and I will never do that again." Looking back, I think every student should guard against the harmful idea that "thin is always beautiful". True beauty comes from a strong, healthy body and a confident heart — and that is something no fashion can take the place of. 4. Why did Lisa begin to skip meals? A. She wanted to slim down like the singer she saw online. B. Her doctor asked her to do so. C. She had no time for breakfast. D. She disliked the school food. 5. What does the underlined phrase "passed out" in paragraph 3 probably mean? A. Became very hungry. B. Lost consciousness. C. Fell into a deep sleep. D. Got really angry. 6. How did the writer probably feel when Lisa got well again? A. Relieved and glad. B. Frightened and sad. C. Doubtful and nervous. D. Uninterested and cold. 7. What can we learn from the last paragraph? A. Being thin is the key to beauty. B. Fashion magazines are of little value. C. The writer believes health matters more than being thin. D. Lisa has given up all exercise. C Nowadays, many teenagers live in two worlds: the real one and the digital one. On fashion and photo apps, everyone seems to be good-looking, rich and full of talent. Faces are smoothed, legs are made longer, and every picture is carefully edited before it is shown off to hundreds of followers. In those fashion feeds, models wear perfect jeans, and there is always something "better" than what you have. A recent survey of 2,000 high school students — both male and female — found that nearly 70 per cent of them felt negative about their own appearance after browsing such content. Researchers point out that when we compare our real faces with digitally "perfected" ones, we are fighting a losing battle: no ordinary person can live up to the impossible standards created by software. Over time, this external pressure may hang over young people like a dark shadow. Worse still, a few teenagers even begin to dream of plastic surgery. Does this mean we should throw away our phones? Not exactly. Apps themselves are not the enemy — the problem lies in how we use them. Experts suggest that we remember the images online are often far from real, spend less time on appearance-related content, and take pride in our own strength and achievements instead. After all, your individuality — your own way of thinking, your sense of humour, your talent for the piano or for sport — is what makes you special. Beauty edited by a filter ends up forgotten; a rich and confident character is memorable. In the long term, learning to see through the screen may be one of the most important lessons of our school years. 8. What did nearly 70 per cent of the students feel after browsing fashion apps? A. Negative about their own appearance. B. Proud of their own looks. C. Interested in photo editing. D. Confident about their future. 9. What does the underlined word "external" in paragraph 2 probably mean? A. Inside. B. Outside. C. Personal. D. Natural. 10. What do experts suggest teenagers do? A. Throw away their phones completely. B. Spend more time editing their photos. C. Take pride in their own strength and achievements. D. Compare their faces with online pictures. 11. Which of the following is the best title for the text? A. Fashion Apps: A New Way to Study B. Say Goodbye to Smartphones Forever C. The Art of Photo Editing D. Don't Let the Screen Decide Your Beauty D "If you don't sleep well tonight, you will forget what you learned today." This old saying is truer than many students think. When we sleep, the brain does not simply shut down. It is busy sorting out the information we took in during the day and turning the important parts into long-term memories. That is why a good night's sleep is so effective for memory. Studies show that students who slept eight hours did about 20 per cent better in memory tests than those who slept only five or six. Not sleeping enough also has an immediate effect on concentration. In the short term, you may find it hard to concentrate in class the next day, and small mistakes begin to pile up. A tired body is also easier for illness to attack. In the long term, sleeping too little may harm your health, your mood and even your growth. Many students stay up late because of heavy schedules, hoping to gain more study time, but they often end up losing more than they gain — a tired brain simply cannot function well. So what is the effective way? Experts give two suggestions. First, keep a regular schedule: go to bed and get up at the same time every day, even on weekends. Second, put down your phone an hour before bed, because the light from digital screens makes the brain too active to fall asleep. Sleep, after all, touches almost every aspect of our health. Sleep is not wasted time. Rather, it is when your brain quietly works for you. Tonight, put down your phone and let your memory do its job. 12. What does the brain do while we sleep? A. It shuts down completely. B. It forgets the day's information. C. It prepares for the next day's meals. D. It turns important information into long-term memories. 13. What does the underlined word "Rather" in the last paragraph probably mean? A. On the contrary. B. In addition. C. For example. D. As usual. 14. What can we infer from paragraph 3? A. Staying up late always brings more study time. B. Students with heavy schedules never feel tired. C. Staying up late to study may do more harm than good. D. Tired brains work faster than fresh ones. 15. What is the text mainly about? A. Why sleep matters for memory and health. B. Why students dislike morning exercises. C. How phones light up our bedrooms. D. What the best breakfast for students is. 第二部分 七选五(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Pressure is a normal part of school life.
