Bang! They were filled with renewed hope when
they heard the fire fighters on the other side of the

relief,Sarah stepped out,her legs shaky as she took her
first steps onto solid ground.Other passengers all
exchanged brief,reassuring glances,as if sharing a

of ups and downs, but she was ready to face them with

l.B根据第一段中的“But air conditioning is a major
contributor to global warming since units release
powerful greenhouse gases and use lots of energy.
that materials scientists,architects,and engineers
will be interested in these results, and that our work
will inspire more complete thinking for how to
integrate breakthroughs in radiative cooling
materials with simple but effective architectural
from McGill University,UCLA and Princeton have
found in a new study an inexpensive, sustainable
alternative to mechanical cooling with refrigerants in
hot and dry climates, and a way to relieve dangerous
heat waves during electricity blackouts.”

故选A。
4.D根据空后的“And when arguing,it can get even
faster.”可知,D项中的“a quick back-and-forth

about the declining interest in language learning...

Deborah Cohn调的“language learning is actually
about understanding and connecting with different

On a gray Monday morning,Sarah hurried
along the crowded sidewalk. She'd overslept and
was already running late for work. The sky was
overcast,and the air carried a damp chill,making
her wish she'd worn a heavier coat.As she
rushed toward her office building, she could feel
the weight of the day pressing down on her-
meetings, deadlines, and the usual chaos of a
busy workweek.
Inside the office lobby(大堂),colleagues
rushed past, their footsteps echoing against the
marble floors, each one lost in their own world
of deadlines and to-do lists. Some were busy
typing on the keyboard. Some were talking to
clients on the phones, gesturing wildly trying to
explain a campaign strategy.
After swiping her ID card at the entrance,
Sarah rushed toward the elevator. She pressed
the button, impatiently tapping her foot as she
waited.When the elevator arrived,she stepped
inside, pressing the button for the 10th floor
without a second thought.The doors closed,and
she sighed, leaning against the wall as she took a
sip of her coffee. The other passengers in the
elevator were mostly strangers,their faces
wearing the same tiredness that Sarah felt.A
man in a suit stood nearby, checking his watch

in hot and dry climates, and a way to relieve
dangerous heat waves during electricity blackouts.
The researchers set out to answer how to
achieve a new benchmark(基谁)in passive
cooling inside naturally conditioned buildings in
hot climates such as Southern California. As an
attempt, they examined the use of roof materials
that radiate(辐射)heat into the cold universe,
even under direct sunlight, and how to combine
them with temperature-driven ventilation
)These cool radiator materials and coatings
are often used to stop roofs overheating.
Researchers have also used them to improve heat
rejection from chillers. But there is untapped
potential for integrating them into architectural
design more fully,so they can not only reject indoor
heat to outer space in a passive way,but also drive
regular and healthy air changes.
"We found we could maintain air temperatures
several degrees below the current surrounding
temperature, and several degrees more below a
reference 'gold standard'for passive cooling,"
said Remy Fortin, lead author and PhD candidate at
the Peter Guo-hua Fu School of Architecture.
"We did this without sacrificing healthy ventilation
air changes."This was a considerable challenge,
considering air exchanges are a source of heating
when the aim is to keep a room cooler than the
outside.
The researchers hope the findings will be
used to positively impact communities suffering
from dangerous climate heating and heatwaves.
"We hope that materials scientists,architects,
and engineers will be interested in these results,
and that our work will inspire more complete
thinking for how to integrate breakthroughs in
radiative cooling materials with simple but effective
architectural solutions,"said Remy Fortin.

Test B七选五
It's common to communicate by way of
text, and that works well for everything from
setting plans with a friend to asking you to pick
up a grocery item.1 Fighting over text can
cause problems and can even break up friendships
or partnerships.Ahead,we'll examine why.
There's no vocal tone involved.
When we speak, the person we're talking
to can tell how serious or light we are by our
tones.2 Everything is flat in writing,so
without vocal tones to clarify,it's easy to
assume the worst in someone and their intentions.
·3
We also communicate in person through
nonverbal ways. How we act physically lets
others know how we feel, and without that in
text,an argument can be worsened to a terrible
point without one person even becoming aware
of how upset the other is.
Different communication paces affect
a lot.
4 And when arguing,it can get even
faster. It happens not to read all of a person's
reply before you respond again, and the more
upset you get,the harder it may be to express
yourself clearly or to understand the person
