Unit 6 Food and health All of us 1 the advice for many many times. But if you fall short, don’t worry. That advice is probably quite wrong, anyway. That’s according to a new research. It found that for most healthy adults, 2 eight cups of water a day is unnecessary. But nor is it dangerous. If you do drink eight cups of water, you are probably just going to be spending more time in the bathroom. In fact, this misunderstanding has something to do with the suggestion before. Early in 105, the U.S. National Research Council advised adults 3 about 1.9 liters of water daily. The suggestion is about a person’s total daily intake of water from fruit, vegetables and soup. But it has been widely misunderstood. Many people believe that they should drink eight glasses of water every day. So, have you ever wondered 4 water you need to drink daily? The study found that it’s different from one person to 5 . It depends on 6 age, size, physical activity and the weather in the city where you live. Our needs for water are the highest between the ages of 20 and 50. After that, the needs slowly go down 7 our metabolism (新陈代谢) slows down after the age of 50, and our needs for water go down, too. Also, since men usually have 8 bodies than women, they need more water. People whose jobs need more physical activities need more water than those who work in the office. And people who live in hot places are in need of more water than those who live in the place 9 cold weather. In conclusion, most of you don’t really have to worry about not having enough water yet. And you also don’t have to work out the exact amount of water you need by measuring. Just drink whenever you are thirsty. Water is the best choice. Coffee and tea are fine as well. But drinks with sugar must 10 , which can cause lots of health problems. Hopefully, everyone can stay fit and have unlimited happiness. 1. A. hears B. are hearing C. were heard D. have heard 2. That is having those meals at the right time. Understanding the science behind meal timing can have a huge influence on your health. More research is showing that correct mealtime might help people lose weight and reduce risks of disease. According to the experts, “It’ s about the when, rather than the what.” Incorrect mealtimes can be against all the advantages of your healthy diet. In addition, each of us needs a given amount of energy each day. This energy is produced from the grains, proteins, and fats that we take in. When we fail to eat adequately through the day (for example, only one or two meals), it can be challenging to meet our energy needs. There are different ways to have a meal plan that makes you feel your best. The list below may be a good place to start. ●6:00-9:45 a. m. Break your fast. This window is the perfect time to have breakfast. Think of a breakfast that includes healthy fat and protein like eggs, cheese, or plant seeds and so on. ●10:00-11:00 a. m. Snack it up. Given breakfast has now been a few hours ago and lunch still feels light years away. Having something light but tasty is wonderful. Pick an apple or some pine nuts (坚果). The high-fiber and high-protein snack is helpful to stop you from feeling hungry. ●1:00 p. m. Lunch Break. Work and study tasks can make you have lunch later or even forget it. But waiting until later in the afternoon or evening could lead to eating too much and making less healthy choices. Research supports eating an earlier lunch. ●3:00 - 4:00 p. m. Snack again. As with your morning snack, a high-fiber and high-protein snack is a good choice. ●6:30 p. m. Dinnertime. Research supports having dinner at 6-7 p. m. Eating an earlier dinner and getting away from late night (10 p. m. and after) meal can help you sleep better. A dinner that is high in fiber and low in fat can help you fall asleep faster and increase your time in dreamland. 21. What’s the writer’s opinion on correct mealtime? A. It’s another key to being healthy. B. Eating at the right time is difficult. C. What to eat is more important than it. D. It’s against the advantages of healthy diet. 22. According to the passage, what may happen if we have fewer than three meals a day? A. We will not get sick easily. B. It’s hard for us to get enough energy. C. It’ll make us have less unhealthy food. D. We may feel hungry during work or study. 23. According to the writer, which is a healthy decision? A. Having lunch during teatime. B. Starting the day without breakfast. C. Eating some pine nuts at work. D. Eating a sandwich for late night dinner. 24. What can we infer from the text? A. Healthy food works better when eaten at proper time. B. People usually pay much attention to meal timing. C. A high-fat dinner helps people fall asleep quickly. D. Eating earlier lunch will surely help people lose weight. 25. What is the best title for the passage? A. We are what we eat. B. Timing is everything. C. Science behind food. D. Ways to lose weight. B There is much debate nowadays as to what makes up a healthy diet. For example, scientists have insisted for years that a big enemy of health is fatty food. However, there is increasing evidence that the real driver of poor health is not so much fatty food, as it is sugar. Heart disease is the number one killer of Americans. And in America, people who receive 25% of their daily calories or more through sugar are twice as likely to die from heart disease than people who receive less than 10% a day (Journal of the American Medical Association, 2014). This is true regardless of how healthy the rest of their diet might be. Put more simply, while people continue to argue over whether or not fatty food is dangerous, we already know that sugar is a killer. ★ The average American gets 1/3 of his or her sugar through sweet drinks alone. The American Heart Association recommends that we limit ourselves to less than 100 – 150 calories a day from sugar, which is less than what is usually contained in one can of sweet drink or in a single candy bar. In other words, if you want to be healthy, you have to cut down on desserts, and cut out sweet drinks altogether. Beyond this, you can keep healthy by consuming (消耗) different categories of fresh foods, especially fruit and vegetables, which are full of vitamins and fibre, rather than processed foods. Processed foods often contain less nutrition, and have higher quantities of sugar, salt, and fat than fresh ingredients (成分). Besides this, it is also important to have some meat, beans, or dairy products in your diet, as they provide the necessary protein for strong bones and muscle growth. As with everything in life, moderation is key. The ideal diet is a balanced one, without too much or too little of any one thing. Finally, a fundamental key to healthy eating is to eat slowly. It takes about twenty minutes from the time you start eating for your brain to tell your body that you are full. What this means is that people who chew too quickly end up eating too much food because they still feel hungry. Eating slowly also allows your body to digest (消化) your food better, and will allow you to enjoy your food more. In addition, studies show that consistent eating habits, for example, taking three meals a day at the same time each day, are better for our health. It is also better to eat a modest amount of food each time, rather than to eat a lot in one meal, and then a little in the next. There is no one trick to healthy eating. Rather, healthy eating starts with having a healthy attitude towards food. One question you can ask yourself is, “Do I eat to live, or live to eat?” If you are using food mostly for nutrition, then you are on the right track with your diet. However, if food has become the centre of your life, you might be on the road to bad health. It is up to you to decide how you want to live, and to make the right decisions about your diet. 26. Paragraph 1 mainly wants to express that ________. A. the sugar causes healthy problems mostly B. the fat causes healthy problems mostly C. the heart problem is the killer of Americans D. the sugar is the main reason of heart problem 27. Which of the following can be put in ★ ? A. Additionally, people with a love for sugar are at risk. B. Much of this extra sugar comes from sweets and sweet drinks. C. Besides, maintaining a healthy lifestyle is possible. D. Healthy diet is very important for us. 28. What can we infer from the paragraph 2? A. You can still stay healthy by choosing processed foods with less oil. B. The protein can strengthen bone and muscle growth. C. If you want to keep healthy, you should not eat any sugar. D. Eating more slowly can keep you health. 29. The underlined word “next” refers to ________. A. food B. diet C. meal D. sugar 30. What is the purpose of asking yourself the question in the last paragraph? A. To tell people about the health dangers of sugar. B. To tell people to eat a balance diet if you want to keep healthy. C. To tell people that eating the right amount of food every time is good for health. D. To tell people that different eating habits depend on different lives. C(原创) The sweetness and tea smell of milk tea come fast. After one cup, the mood is gently lifted, and tiredness steps aside for a while. Sugar quickly raises blood sugar, and caffeine excites the central nervous system, so a short feeling of excitement arrives. As this happens again and again, the brain remembers the reward, and the wish grows: wanting a cup, drinking often, getting more used to it, and feeling nervous when stopping. Researchers call this state—hard to stop, hard to give up—milk tea addiction. A study by Tsinghua University and the Central University of Finance and Economics, published in the Journal of Affective Disorders in 2023, surveyed 5,281 college students in Beijing. Nearly 77% of them had drunk at least 6 to 11 cups in the past year, 2.6% had 4 to 6 cups a week, and 1.2% had one cup a day. The researchers put frequency (频率), dependence, withdrawal (戒断反应), tolerance (耐受性) and guilt together into “addiction”. The higher the level, the higher the risk of depression and anxiety, with correlation values(关联值) of 0.31 and 0.28. Another survey of college students in four provinces and cities gives a clearer number: those who drank 4 to 5 cups a week had 4.12 times the risk of serious mental problems as those who drank none; for six cups or more a week, it rose to 8.04 times. High sugar and caffeine are seen as the forces behind this: the former disturbs the hormone system that controls stress, and the latter, once too much, often goes with insomnia (失眠) and anxiety. Women drink more. In a sample from iiMedia Research, female buyers made up about 70%. When tired, working late or meeting friends, a sweet drink both calms the mood and serves as an excuse for social time, and its “emotional value” is often mentioned; the study also shows that women's level of milk tea addiction is generally higher than men's. The hidden risk lies in the recipe. A spot check(抽查) by the Shanghai Consumer Council found that one cup of milk tea has 270 mg of caffeine on average, up to 480 mg, about the same as four cups of American coffee; the sugar is even more surprising, with normal sweetness averaging 34 grams per cup, up to 62 grams, close to 14 sugar cubes, and products marked “sugar-free” still contain sugar in real tests. Milk foam, pearls (珍珠) and taro paste (芋泥) add another layer of fat and sugar. After drinking often for years, the risks of obesity (肥胖), diabetes (糖尿病), high blood lipids and bone loss all rise together. 31. Which of the following statements is right? A. Drinking milk tea occasionally can directly cause serious mental diseases B. Sugar-free milk tea totally contains no sugar in actual detection C. Female groups are more likely to get addicted to milk tea than males D. Most college students have severe milk tea addiction 32. What can we know from the two college student surveys? A. Most Beijing college students never drink milk tea in a year B. Higher milk tea drinking frequency means higher mental health risks C. Drinking 5 cups of milk tea weekly is safer than drinking none D. The addiction level has no relation with depression problems 33. Why is milk tea more popular among women ? A. Because it provides emotional comfort and supports social needs B. Because it contains less sugar and fat than other drinks C. Because female students have more pocket money to buy it D. Because its taste is much better than traditional coffee and tea 34. What can we know about milk tea’s ingredients? A. Ordinary sweet milk tea contains less sugar than sugar-free ones B. The accessories in milk tea increase health risks indirectly C. Caffeine in milk tea is far less than that in American coffee D. Milk tea’s sugar content will not cause physical illnesses 35. What is the author’s main purpose of writing the passage? A. To introduce the popular flavors and ingredients of milk tea B. To show college students’ different drinking habits of milk tea C. To compare milk tea with American coffee in caffeine content D. To explain the formation and hidden harms of milk tea addiction 第二节、阅读填空(5分) Teaching children to eat well may seem overwhelming (令人不知所措的), but it is actually very simple if you follow these 6 simple ways. In fact, vitamin D is good for us in many other ways in addition to supporting bone health. For example, it can help absorb calcium (钙) for keeping bones and teeth strong. It also helps support healthy heart and immune (免疫) function. Moreover, developing healthy cell needs its help, too. Vitamin D is absorbed (吸收) into our bloodstream, it is more like a hormone (激素) than a vitamin. So, it is no surprise that having enough vitamin D is so important for health. However, very few foods in nature contain vitamin D, what should we do to supplement (补充) enough vitamin D? Scientists tell us that vitamin D is produced when sunlight touches our skin, and only bare skin can produce vitamin D while we are sunbathing. And it’s helpless if the sunlight reaches your skin through the window glass. The best place to have a sunbath is in the open air. Remember to open your window and let sunlight touch your bare skin if you have to stay at home for kinds of reasons. But how long do we need to stay in the sun in order to supplement (补充) enough vitamin D? In winter and spring, we’d better let our faces and arms enjoy the sunlight for 10 to 30 minutes, while in summer, we have more bare body parts in the sun, and the UV rays are very strong, only 5 to 10 minutes is enough. Twice to three times a week can produce enough vitamin D. As the autumn ends, we have less opportunity to absorb vitamin D through sunlight. Therefore, people should take some vitamin D capsules, especially during winter. 46. How did the Polish doctor treat the children with soft bones? 47. How many ways is vitamin D good for us according to the passage? 48. Is vitamin D more like a hormone or a vitamin? 49. What should we do to produce vitamin D while we’re sunbathing? 50. How often should we stay in the sun to produce enough vitamin D in summer? 四、写作(30分) 第一节、语篇填词(5分 Samuel is a middle school student who is a big eater. But there’s another important key which is often forgotten by us. A. 【答案】26. A 27. B 28. B 29. C 30. 根据“there is increasing evidence that the real driver of poor health is not so much fatty food, as it is sugar. Heart disease is the number one killer of Americans. And in America, people who receive 25% of their daily calories or more through sugar are twice as likely to die from heart disease than people who receive less than 10% a day.”可知第一段主要告诉我们糖大多会导致健康问题。故选A。 27. 推理判断题。根据“The average American gets 1/2 of his or her sugar through sweet drinks alone.”可推断出此处应是填能够引出关于糖来源的句子。选项B“这些额外的糖大部分来自甜食和甜饮料。”符合语境。故选B。 28. 推理判断题。根据“Besides this, it is also important to have some meat, beans, or dairy products in your diet, as they provide the necessary protein for strong bones and muscle growth.”可知肉类、豆类或乳制品能为强健骨骼和肌肉生长提供必要的蛋白质,所以可推断出蛋白质可以增强骨骼和肌肉的生长。故选B。 29. 词义猜测题。根据“It is also better to eat a modest amount of food each time, rather than to eat a lot in one meal, and then a little in the next.”可知此处在说“每次吃适量的食物也更好,而不是一顿吃很多,然后下一顿吃一点。”,所以此处应是指下一顿饭。故选C。 30. 推理判断题。根据“It is up to you to decide how you want to live, and to make the right decisions about your diet.”可知不同的饮食习惯取决以不同的生活。故选D。 C(原创) The sweetness and tea smell of milk tea come fast. To explain the formation and hidden harms of milk tea addiction 【答案】CBABD 【解析】本文介绍奶茶成瘾的形成原理,引用多项大学生调查数据,说明频繁饮用奶茶带来的心理及身体健康隐患。 31.细节正误判断题。根据第四段 “the study also shows that women's level of milk tea addiction is generally higher than men's.” 根据第三段 “those who drank 4 to 5 cups a week had 4.12 times the risk of serious mental problems as those who drank none; for six cups or more a week, it rose to 8.04 times.” 可以推断,奶茶饮用频率越高,出现心理健康问题的风险越高。A 错误,原文 “Nearly 77% of them had drunk at least 6 to 11 cups in the past year” 说明大多数北京大学生一年内喝过奶茶;C 错误,每周喝 4–5 杯奶茶的人严重心理问题风险远高于不喝的人;D 错误,原文 “The higher the level, the higher the risk of depression and anxiety” 说明成瘾程度和抑郁风险有关。故选 B。 33.推理判断题。根据第四段 “When tired, working late or meeting friends, a sweet drink both calms the mood and serves as an excuse for social time, and its ‘emotional value’ is often mentioned”,可以推断奶茶能够安抚情绪,同时满足社交需求,这是它更受女性欢迎的主要原因。故选 A。 34.推理判断题。根据最后一段 “Milk foam, pearls (珍珠) and taro paste (芋泥) add another layer of fat and sugar. After drinking often for years, the risks of obesity (肥胖), diabetes (糖尿病), high blood lipids and bone loss all rise together.”,奶茶里奶盖、珍珠、芋泥等配料增加脂肪和糖分,长期饮用会提升患病风险,由此推断这些配料间接增加健康风险。故选 B。 35. 第二节、阅读填空(5分) Teaching children to eat well may seem overwhelming (令人不知所措的), but it is actually very simple if you follow these 6 simple ways. 47. They can help us prevent many illnesses and provide us with plenty of energy for our schoolwork. I’d like to share some suggestions on how we can eat healthily. First of all, I think that we should learn to tell healthy food from unhealthy food. Junk food such as hamburgers, cola and potato chips does harm to our bodies, so we had better stay away from it. I believe that we should eat both meat and fresh vegetables, because they are rich in different kinds of vitamins. Besides, we should eat less sweet food like cakes, for too much sugar may lead to health problems. What’s more, it is necessary that we have breakfast every day and have our meals on time. Breakfast offers us energy to start our busy day. I realize that if we stick to these rules and develop healthy eating habits, we can keep a balanced diet and stay fit. Let’s take action from now on. 2 / 2 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
