almost 1.6 million participants and collectively
reduced food waste by 862 tons and carbon
emissions(碳排放)by3,337tons.
The idea to develop such a mini-program
came from Liu's experience in a canteen.In
2017,he found that a restaurant would give
diners who finished off their food a card and
offer small gifts after a certain number of cards
had been collected.
"Technological innovation is a good way to
reduce food waste,Liu thought.He organized a
team of 20 members to work on the project at the
end of 2017.To solve the AI's problem of
identifying photos of empty plates, the team spent
half a year collecting over 100,000 samples in
canteens and restaurants.In 2018,the mini-
program was officially put into operation on Oct

I still remember -my hands and my
fingers still remember-what used to lie in
store for us on our return to school from the
holidays. The trees in the school yard would be
in full leaf again and the old leaves would be
lying around like a muddy sea of leaves
“Get that all swept up!”the headmaster
would tell us."I want the whole place cleaned
up,at once!"There was enough work there,
to last over a week.Especially since the only
tools with which we were provided were our
hands,our fingers,our nails."Now see that it'
s done properly,and be quick about it,"the
headmaster would say to the older pupils,"or
you'll have to answer for it!"
So at an order from the older boys we
would all line up like peanuts about to cut and
gather in crops. If the work was not going as
quickly as the headmaster expected, the big
boys,instead of giving us a helping hand,used
to find it simpler to beat us with branches
pulled from the trees. In order to avoid these
blows,we used to bribe(贿赂)the older boys
with the juicy cakes we used to bring for our
midday meal. And if we happened to have any
money on us,the coins changed hands at once.
If we did not do this,if we were afraid of
going home with an empty stomach or an
empty purse,the blows were redoubled.They
hit us so violently and with such evil enjoyment

that even a deaf and dumb person would have
realized that we were being whipped not so
much to make us work harder, but rather to
beat us into a state of obedience(服从)in
which we would be only too glad to give up our
food and money.
Occasionally one of us,worn out by such
calculated cruelty, would have the courage to
complain to the headmaster. He would of
course be very angry, but the punishment he
gave the older boys was always very small-
nothing compared to what they had done to us.
And the fact is that however much we
complained, our situation did not improve in
the slightest.Perhaps we should have let our
parents know what was going on,but somehow
we never dreamed of doing so;I don't know
whether it was loyalty or pride that kept us
silent, but I can see now that we were foolish
to keep quiet about it,for such beating were
completely foreign to our nature.

clean up the school yard at the beginning of
the term because
A.he was too lazy
B.there were many fallen leaves on the ground
C.the school yard was covered with mud

2.The headmaster asked the older boys to
A.beat those who worked slowly
B.treat the small boys as peanuts
C.take charge of the process of the cleaning

have strong friendships with people with a
wide range of IQs.Whether you have an
average or an above average IQ,you can have
a tight friendship with someone with a high or
even genius IQ.
1 Whether it was the early years sharing
toys in the sandbox,or you struck up a friendship
during college, there had to be some chemistry in
order for you to work upon a relationship with any
person,regardless of their IQ.
Identify what cheers up your high IQ
friend. For most people even with very high
IQ,there are some things that always bring a
smile.2 Among them there are always a
few things that would break the tension or
change the topic easily with a laugh when
things get too tense.
3 Gifted or highly intelligent individuals
may exhibit unique characteristics such as being
extremely creative and passionate.Instead of
being annoyed or even embarrassed by your
friend's differences, remember that his or her
intelligence and the way they see the world is
special and wonderful.
Share knowledge.Your friend has a high IQ,
not an encyclopedic(百科全书的)knowledge of
everything in the world.4 This way,the two
of you can build up each other's knowledge and
broaden your understanding together.
If you're worried that you're not smart
enough to stay as friends, understand that your
high IQ friend treasures your friendship too.
5 Indeed,it can sometimes be harder for
those with higher IQs but not so high emotional
intelligence (EQ)to make sound and lasting
friendships,so try to see things more as friendship
and less as an issue of intelligence.
A.Appreciate your friend's uniqueness.
B.Think about what you share in common.
C.Remember why you became friends in
the first place.
D.High IQ people have areas of interest
that aren't intellectual.
E.If your friend tells you something in
confidence,keep that confidence and don't
talk about it to anyone else.
F.Keep in mind that although your friend is
extremely intelligent,he or she seeks friendship
from you,too.
G.Share your own knowledge,ideas and
thoughts with them, just as much as you like
hearing their knowledge and ideas.
