The challenge asks participants to go without disposable (一次性的) plastics — bottles, straws, bags, containers — for ten days straight. We require every student to take these three steps:
1. Bring your own bottle. One reusable bottle saves up to 500 disposable bottles a year. Fill it at any campus fountain.
2. Refuse plastic straws and bags. Just say “No straw, please.” Carry a cloth bag for shopping.
3. Refuse unnecessary plastic packaging. Choose package-free options whenever possible.Join us!
From May 20 to May 30, the Green Campus Club will run a “Plastic-Free Challenge”. Participants who successfully complete the challenge will receive a reusable drink bottle (limited to 50 winners).
Register at the club office (Room 101, Science Building) or scan the QR code below (see poster on campus).

(本题10分)It is mid-October, and some of our most important traditions are behind us: the Opening of School Assembly, Homecoming, and Mountain Day. Before joining Brearley School, I had heard of these events, but no description truly prepared me for how much they meant to students.
From a young age, students watch older peers (同辈) lead these traditions and hope to do the same one day. Many seniors remember the moment they were inspired to take part in the activities. It might have been as a kindergartener, watching the Athletic Association leaders cheer, or as a Class IV student, receiving a class mascot (吉祥物) from Class XII after singing special songs. It could even have been as a Class VII student, listening to student leaders speak at the Opening of School Assembly. These experiences connect different grades and reflect the school’s values. Seniors do not act “too cool” during these times. Instead, they show respect and kindness, setting an example to younger students. Along with teachers, they help build a community where everyone cares for each other.
Traditions serve our community in many ways. They give students something to look forward to and connect them with past generations of Brearley graduates. They also shape our culture and help us live out our values.
This was clear on Mountain Day as I walked by the lake with two seniors who had joined me on past hikes. We talked about the supportive classmates, books we had read, and how nice it was to step away from our desks and enjoy nature. I pointed out younger students walking ahead of us and said, “They remind me at their age-bright-eyed and wanting to be near older students.” We laughed. And that’s the power of traditions.
24.(2.5分)What does the underlined word “they” in paragraph 1 refer to?
A.Events. B.Rules. C.Classes. D.Pioneers.
25.(2.5分)What do seniors do during the school activities?
A.They set new rules for all students. B.They outperform younger students.
C.They overlook teachers’ warnings. D.They build a caring environment.
26.(2.5分)What does the author want to highlight in paragraph 3?
A.Shared values of the school. B.Heartfelt wishes of the students.
C.The role of the school’s traditions. D.The meaning of friendship.
27.(2.5分)What can we infer about the author?
A.He is a sharp-eyed college student. B.He has a deep love for his school.
C.He dreams of becoming a teacher. D.He is against the two seniors’ words.
(本题10分)Starting high school is a big step for any teenager, for there are many things about high school that are different from your old school environment, and you will experience many changes.
You will face entering a new school, making new friends in a new class, and getting to know new teachers. These teachers will usually have higher academic expectations than your middle school or junior high school teachers. They want to help you get into college; they expect you to study hard and improve yourself.
Although these are all big changes, they are nothing you can’t handle. There are many different useful resources to help you deal with any problem. Your teachers, parents and friends are there to help you transition (过渡) into this great new time in your life. If you don’t feel comfortable talking to any of these people, there are many helpful hotlines you can call to talk anonymously (匿名地). High school may be a time of change, but these changes should be for the better.
Your high school years are a great time in your life. To fully enjoy your high school experience, try to deal with the situations of your life with which you are not happy. If you are feeling pressured to do something you feel wrong, talk to a friend or parent to find a solution. If you are not succeeding academically, find a teacher or someone else to help you improve. If you feel isolated socially, try to join a school club or group to make new friends.
High school may seem rather difficult at first, but you will come to appreciate everything about your experience at last.
28.(2.5分)What will new teachers expect you to do according to paragraph 2?
A.Behave yourself. B.Make more new friends.
C.Be equipped with more knowledge. D.Get familiar with the school.
29.(2.5分)What is the author’s attitude towards the big changes in high school?
A.Optimistic. B.Negative. C.Neutral. D.Indifferent.
30.(2.5分)What does the underlined word “isolated” in paragraph 4 probably mean?
A.Free. B.Relaxed. C.Alone. D.Tired.
31.(2.5分)For whom is the text written?
A.Parents. B.High school freshmen.
C.College students. D.Middle school teachers.
(本题10分)Some high school students in Camarillo are getting a real hands-on education, thanks to a one-of-a-kind farm program. They aren’t just learning about farm animals; They’re raising them! This is the only high school in the country that raises its own animals on site.
Addisyn Bolles has been feeding the Great Hambino — her 202-pound pig in person since it was a piglet (猪仔). “I’ve learned a lot from this program. I’ve learned to be responsible for one because you have a whole animal that you have to take care of. I’ve learned how to do that, which helps prepare me in many ways,” said Bolles.
“We have a really unique program because we’re one of the few schools that actually do have a farm on our campus…… We’re in the classroom, the students are learning about how to raise livestock (牲畜) and then they can step outside and directly use what they’re learning,” said teacher Breanna Cole.
There’s no sleeping in for these students. They are up early, feeding, walking and cleaning their animals in preparation to show them off at the Ventura County Fair. “It seems like a lot of work, and you do put a lot of time and effort into it. But it’s fun at the end of the day especially when you just need some time to cool off,” said Nevach Cornish, a student from the school.
To enter the livestock competition, each animal must meet the requirements on size. Getting to the Fair makes all those early morning feedings worth it.
“Carp, Santa Paula, Fillmore, they all have one and it’s really cool because at the Fair you get to meet new people, and you can get a connection with them and exchange ideas,” said another student, Julia Santos.
This Camarillo high school farm program isn’t just an extra class — it’s a life-shaping experience that turns textbook lessons into real responsibility and joy. It’s the kind of learning more schools should look to, proving education can grow just as strongly on the farm as it does in a classroom.
32.(2.5分)What makes the school unique?
A.It has a farm for students. B.It mainly offers lessons about farm animals.
C.It develops students’life skills. D.It allows students to raise animals at school.
33.(2.5分)How does the program influence the students?
A.They prefer feeding animals to studying.
B.They are too busy to develop other hobbies.
C.They better understand the meaning of teamwork.
D.They have a chance to put what they learn into use.
34.(2.5分)What is the author’s attitude towards the program?
A.Supportive. B.Uncaring.
C.Doubtful. D.Unclear.
35.(2.5分)What is the text mainly about?
A.A popular farm. B.Hands-on education.
C.Human-animal relation. D.A livestock competition.

Back in China, Saturday mornings were for dim sum (点心). I loved chicken feet the best — especially the softness and the way my mother smiled when I reached for another. The whole family would crowd around the small table, fighting over the last piece.
Here, however, everything was different. The kids in the new school ate burgers and pizza. They always cast curious and slightly confused looks at my lunch box, and from time to time, there were whispers: “What’s that?” “Why does he eat that?” When I told Mom these, she gently reminded, “Our food is our tradition, dear. They just don’t know it.”
Encouraged by her words, I would smile and offer to share some with them, explaining the benefits of eating chicken feet. “It’s like chicken wings, but softer,” I’d say. But as the number of times increased, the sense of strangeness on their faces gradually made me feel uncomfortable.
The real disaster came at a school potluck (百味餐). I brought my mother’s homemade chicken feet, hoping someone would understand. But when I opened the lunchbox, Jason frowned, “What’s that smell?” Everyone gathered around — curious, but no one dared to try. I lowered my head, wondering if I should just turn to burgers to fit in.
After that, I avoided bringing Chinese food to school, and ate burgers like everyone else. I laughed at jokes I didn’t understand. But every Saturday, my mom still made chicken feet. And I still ate them — only at home.
Last week came a notice: our school was holding an International Food Festival — a chance to “taste the world.” Each student could bring a dish from their home country and put it on the country’s food stand (展位). I watched my classmates sign up eagerly, talking about their Italian pasta and Mexican tacos. I read the notice twice, then folded it and put it in my pocket.

A.Shared values of the school. B.Heartfelt wishes of the students.

27.(2.5分)What can we infer about the author?
A.He is a sharp-eyed college student. B.He has a deep love for his school.

The young schoolmates were 51 by the loss of this tree and the trunk left was a sad 52 to them of the once-living tree. 53 transforming this trunk into a fairy house for visiting fairies to stop by and have a little snack, I put little 54 in the house so that the children could look into the little fairy kitchen while walking by. While cutting and shaping the trunk took many hours, it was well worth it for we 55 a wound in our natural environment.
Everything done, we smiled heartily looking around the fantastic “new” school.

Class Farm Plots in Our School
Have you noticed the new green patches on campus? They are our class farm plots, a fantastic project where each class can grow its own plants.
This project is truly valuable in two key ways. Firstly, it turns textbooks into reality. By planting and caring for crops, we apply biology and chemistry knowledge firsthand, making learning active and unforgettable. Secondly, it teaches beyond the classroom. 六、书面表达
67.(本题25分)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
注意:续写词数应为150个左右;
请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Paragraph 1: When Mom came home, I handed her the notice.

Paragraph 2: At the festival, some curious students crowded around my stand.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
Paragraph 1: When Mom came home, I handed her the notice. Staring at the paper, I hesitated and poured out my worry that others might dislike chicken feet again. Mom patted my shoulder softly and encouraged me to show our traditional food bravely. She told me culture deserved to be shared without fear. Inspired by her words, I finally made up my mind. We spent the whole Friday preparing tasty chicken feet together.
Paragraph 2: At the festival, some curious students crowded around my stand. Nervously, I introduced the dish and its cultural meaning. To my surprise, Jason reached out and tried a small piece. A big smile spread across his face, saying it tasted amazing. Relief flooded over me. Not only did I win recognition from my classmates, but I also realized I should be proud of my tradition.
