(本题7.5分)Food labels carry useful information to help you make information about what you and your family eat and drink. Food labels tell you all sorts of information, including but not limited to the following:
Date marking: Use-by and best-before dates
Foods with a shelf life of less than 2 years must have a best-before or use-by date.
The best-before date refers to food quality. Once the best-before date has passed, the food may still be safe to consume, but it may have lost some quality and nutritional value. Products with a best-before date can legally be sold after that date, provided the product is still fit for human consumption. Foods that should not be consumed after a certain date for health and safety reasons must have a use-by date. This means they cannot be sold after that date. You will find use-by dates on foods with a short shelf life, such as meat, fish and dairy products.
Nutrition Facts
Nutrition Facts tell you the quantity of various nutrients a food contains per serve, as well as per 100g or 100ml.
Ingredients
All ingredients must be listed in decreasing order by weight, including added water. The first ingredient listed contributed the largest amount and the last ingredient listed contributed the least.
Here is a sample.
Which product is more likely to be labeled with a “use-by” date?
A.Canned tomatoes. B.Fresh chicken. C.Packaged biscuits. D.Bottled water.

A.227. B.280. C.908. D.1,120.
Which ingredient has the highest percentage in Frozen Lasagna?
A.Italian Tomatoes. B.Pasta. C.Ricotta Cheese. D.Paprika.
(本题10分)I’ve always been intimidated by cooking. My earliest memories of kitchen experiences involve burnt toast and a pot of boiled eggs that exploded, leaving a sticky mess on the stove. My mother, a talented cook, would often laugh and take over, and I soon decided that cooking was a skill I’d never master. But everything changed last summer when I moved into my own apartment and realized I couldn’t survive on takeout forever.
At first, I stuck to the simplest recipes: instant noodles, scrambled eggs, and pre-made salads. But I quickly grew tired of the monotony and craved something more satisfying. One weekend, I found my grandmother’s old recipe book in a box of family heirlooms. The book was worn and filled with handwritten notes, and inside were recipes for her famous braised pork ribs and red bean soup—dishes I’d loved as a child. Suddenly, I felt a desire to recreate those flavors, not just for sustenance, but to feel closer to my grandmother.
My first attempt at braised pork ribs was a disaster. I added too much soy sauce, burned the sugar, and the meat was tough and chewy. I felt discouraged, but I didn’t give up. I re-read the recipe carefully, watched several cooking tutorials online, and adjusted my method. The second try was better, but still not perfect. By the third attempt, the ribs were tender, flavorful, and full of the familiar taste I remembered.
As I continued cooking, I discovered something surprising: I enjoyed it. It was a creative process that allowed me to experiment and express myself. Cooking also became a way to relieve stress after a long day of studying. I learned to be patient, as good dishes take time to prepare. I also learned responsibility, as I had to plan my meals and manage my ingredients properly. Now, I often invite friends over for dinner, and nothing makes me happier than seeing them enjoy the food I’ve cooked.
I no longer fear the kitchen. Instead, it’s become a place of joy and connection—a place where I can honor my grandmother’s memory and create new memories of my own.
Why did the author decide to learn cooking seriously?
A.To save money on takeout. B.To recreate her grandmother’s recipes.
C.To impress her mother and friends. D.To master a new skill for future life.
What can we infer about the author’s early cooking attempts?
A.She received guidance from her mother. B.She quickly mastered basic cooking skills.
C.She faced difficulties and made mistakes. D.She gave up easily when things went wrong.
What does the underlined word “sustenance” in Paragraph 2 mean?
A.Survival. B.Pleasure. C.Memory. D.Creativity.
What did the author gain from cooking?
A.Better relationship with her mother. B.The ability to manage her time efficiently.
C.Sense of joy and valuable life skills. D.The opportunity to become a professional cook.
(本题10分)A study published in September suggests there is a surprising way to get people to avoid unhealthy foods: change their memories. Scientist Elizabeth Loftus of the University of California at Irvine asked volunteers to answer some questions on their personalities and food experiences. “One week later,” Loftus says, “We told those people we’d entered their answers into our smart computer and it came up with an account of their early childhood experiences.” Some accounts included one key additional detail: “You got sick after eating strawberry ice-cream.” The researchers then changed this detail into a manufactured (人为促生的) memory through leading questions — Who were you with? How did you feel? By the end of the study, up to 41% of those given a false memory believed strawberry ice-cream once made them sick, and many said they’d avoid eating it.
When Loftus published her findings, she started getting calls from people begging her to make them remember hating chocolate or French fries. Unfortunately, it’s not that easy. False memories appear to work only for foods you don’t eat on a regular basis. But most important, it is likely that false memories can be implanted (灌输) only in people who are unaware of the mental control. And lying to a patient is immoral, even if a doctor believes it’s for the patient’s benefit.
Loftus says there’s nothing to stop parents from trying it with their overweight children. “Parents have been lying about Father Christmas for years, and nobody seems to mind. If they can prevent diseases caused by fatness and all the other problems that come with that, you might think that’s a more moral lie. Decide that for yourself.”
Why did Loftus ask the volunteers to answer some questions?
A.To improve her computer program. B.To find out their attitudes towards food.
C.To find out details she can make use of. D.To predict what food they’ll like in the future.
What did Loftus find out from her research?
A.People believe what the computer tells them.
B.People can be led to believe in something false.
C.People tend to forget their childhood experiences.
D.People are not always aware of their personalities.
According to the study, people may stop having a certain food if they ________.
A.learn it is harmful for health B.lie to themselves that they don’t want it
C.are willing to let doctors control their minds D.think they once had a bad experience of eating it
Why is Father Christmas mentioned?
A.To show that parents often lie to their children for fun.
B.To prove that lying about Father Christmas is harmful to children.
C.To suggest that lying for health reasons may be acceptable.
D.To argue that children should decide for themselves what is true.
(本题10分)Italian cuisine, deeply linked with ancient cultures like the Greeks, Arabs, and Romans, reflects a rich culinary(烹饪的)heritage. It has been influenced by historical events, regional climates, and cultural exchanges. Many Italians see traditional Italian dishes as the most significant aspect of their national identity, over culture, fashion, football, science and technology. This deep connection to culinary tradition highlights the significant role of food in shaping Italian culture and identity.
During the 14th century and beyond, new ingredients were introduced from the newly found world. Tomatoes, potatoes and so on affected Italian cooking a lot. This period saw the improvement of cooking techniques and the introduction of different flavors. Influences from other European countries also began to shape Italian dishes, leading to the rich variety of flavors and styles. These set the foundation for modern Italy’s diverse and fancy culinary landscape. In the 16th century, French cuisine influenced the formal dining scene with complex dishes and culinary techniques that emphasized appearance and presentation. All dishes were laid out at the same time, giving guests the freedom to serve themselves.
Following Italy’s unification(统一), Pellegrino Artusi, the father of Italian cuisine, noted that there was a need to build a whole Italian identity where culinary tradition played an important role. His Italian cookbook Science in the Kitchen and the Art of Eating Well increased the cultural unification. Historian Piero Camporesi even said that Artusi’s cookbook contributed more to national unification than some of Italy’s most influential literary works.
The 19th century saw a huge change in dining styles, shifting from French to Russian service. Russian service was characterized by serving one course at a time, each freshly cooked and hot. After a period where both styles co-existed, Russian service remains the main method today, which keeps fine dining experience while reducing over waste.
Italian cuisine, a key part of Italy’s identity, shows how the country absorbs different traditions into its own unique style. Its beauty lies in its diversity, with no single dish shining brighter than others. This food culture, common to all regions and social classes, represents the whole of Italy.

Mason’s mother had a passion for soup that filled their home with warmth and a pleasant smell. When Mason turned eight, his mother opened a small, cozy restaurant named Soup and Home. Every single day, she would prepare different kinds of soup from scratch. On some days, a thick chicken soup cooked slowly in one big pot while a bright red tomato soup boiled in another. Other days, the kitchen was filled with the hearty scent of minestrone (蔬菜通心粉汤) or the spicy notes of gumbo (秋葵).
During the chilly months, Mason didn’t mind a warm bowl of chicken or tomato soup. But when summer arrived and his mother suggested a cucumber soup, he’d politely shake his head. It seemed the whole town shared Mason’s preference. In winter, the restaurant was always busy with customers, all seeking comfort in a hot bowl of soup. But as summer’s heat set in, business slowed to a standstill. Mason often saw his mother standing by the large front window, her expression thoughtful as she watched people walk past without stopping. She never complained, but Mason knew — one more slow summer could mean the end of Soup and Home.
Mason couldn’t stand seeing his mother worry. He made up his mind to help her. One summer Sunday, Mason sat with his friend Sam at the ice-cream shop. They were trying to escape the fry-an-egg-on-the-sidewalk heat. Mason absently moved his spoon in circles, watching his ice cream melt in the bottom of his bowl. How could he help save his mother’s restaurant? He kept stirring as he thought. Suddenly, he opened his eyes wide. “Oh, I’ve got it! I’ve got it!” he exclaimed, nearly knocking over his bowl.
“Got what?” Sam asked, looking up from his own sundae.
“You will soon find out!” Mason replied, a grin spreading across his face. “I need to get to my mom’s restaurant. Now!”
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150个左右;

Mason raced to Soup and Home, breaking through the door breathlessly.

A.Hopeful. B.Disappointed. C.Doubtful.
【答案】14.A 15.C 16.A
An international team of scientists has reportedly created the superbanana that contains more vitamin A.
Lacking vitamin A has been a serious problem in some places in Africa and Southeast Asia. It is harmful to children’s growth and it causes blindness. Without absorbing enough vitamin A, children get ill easily.
According to the World Health Organization, 190 million preschool-aged children worldwide lack vitamin A. Luckily, a cheap solution to the problem may be available in the very near future.
The Banana 21 project was launched in Uganda in 2005, and after 18 years of hard work and failed attempts, a team of researchers from the African country’s National Agricultural Research Laboratories and Australian agricultural scientist James Dale worked together to create a type of banana capable of saving millions of children’s lives.
According to National Geographic, the superbanana is ready to be planted in Uganda, but scientists are still waiting for approval from the local government. The problem of lacking vitamin A may disappear one day by providing the superbanana for people.

How many calories would you take in by eating the whole container of Frozen Lasagna?
A.227. B.280. C.908. D.1,120.
Which ingredient has the highest percentage in Frozen Lasagna?
A.Italian Tomatoes. B.Pasta. C.Ricotta Cheese. D.Paprika.
【答案】21.B 22.D 23.A
根据第三段“Foods that should not be consumed after a certain date for health and safety reasons must have a use-by date. This means they cannot be sold after that date. You will find use-by dates on foods with a short shelf life, such as meat, fish and dairy products.(出于健康和安全方面的考虑,某些食品在特定日期之后就不能再食用,这类食品必须标注“保质期”日期。
根据Ingredients部分“All ingredients must be listed in decreasing order by weight, including added water. The first ingredient listed contributed the largest amount and the last ingredient listed contributed the least.(所有成分必须按照重量从大到小的顺序列出,包括添加的水。列出的第一种成分所占比例最大,而最后列出的成分所占比例最小)”以及图表中排名第一的是“Italian Tomatoes(意大利番茄)”可知,冷冻千层面中意大利番茄的含量最高。故选A。
【答案】24.B 25.C 26.A 27.C
根据第二段“Suddenly, I felt a desire to recreate those flavors, not just for ... but to feel closer to my grandmother.(突然间,我渴望重现那些味道,不仅是为了……也是为了更接近我的祖母。)”可知,作者认真学习烹饪是为了重现祖母的食谱,拉近与祖母的距离,故选B。
25.推理判断题。根据第三段“My first attempt at braised pork ribs was a disaster.I added too much soy sauce, burned the sugar, and the meat was tough and chewy.(我第一次尝试做红烧排骨简直是一场灾难。我酱油加多了,糖还炒糊了,而且肉又硬又柴。)”可知,作者早期烹饪尝试面临困难并犯了很多错误,故选C。
26.词句猜测题。根据第二段“inside were recipes for her famous braised pork ribs and red bean soup—dishes I’d loved as a child(里面是她著名的红烧排骨和红豆汤的食谱,这些都是我小时候喜欢的菜)”可知,作者学习烹饪不仅是为了填饱肚子,生存所需,更是为了贴近祖母,因此“sustenance”意为“生存,生计”,和Survival意思相近。故选A。
根据倒数第二段“Cooking also became a way to relieve stress after a long day of studying.I learned to be patient, as good dishes take time to prepare.I also learned responsibility, as I had to plan my meals and manage my ingredients properly.(烹饪也成为了漫长一天学习后缓解压力的一种方式。我学会了耐心,因为好菜需要时间来准备。我也学会了责任,因为我必须计划我的饭菜和管理我的食材。)”可知,作者从烹饪中获得了快乐和宝贵的生活技能,故选C。
根据第一段“Some accounts included one key additional detail: “You got sick after eating strawberry ice-cream.” The researchers then changed this detail into a manufactured (人为促生的) memory through leading questions-Who were you with? How did you feel? By the end of the study, up to 41% of those given a false memory believed strawberry ice-cream once made them sick, and many said they’d avoid eating it. (一些报道还附加了一个关键的细节:“你吃了草莓冰淇淋后生病了。”然后,研究人员通过诱导性问题——你和谁在一起?你感觉如何?在研究结束时,被给予错误记忆的人中,高达41%的人认为草莓冰淇淋曾经让他们生病,许多人说他们会避免吃它。)”可知,Loftus会要求志愿者回答一些问题,她的目的是“找出可利用的细节”来构建虚假记忆。故选C项。
29.细节理解题。根据第一段“By the end of the study, up to 41% of those given a false memory believed strawberry ice-cream once made them sick, and many said they’d avoid eating it.(在研究结束时,被给予错误记忆的人中,高达41%的人认为草莓冰淇淋曾经让他们生病,许多人说他们会避免吃它。)”
根据第一段“By the end of the study, up to 41% of those given a false memory believed strawberry ice-cream once made them sick, and many said they’d avoid eating it.(在研究结束时,被给予错误记忆的人中,高达41%的人认为草莓冰淇淋曾经让他们生病,许多人说他们会避免吃它。)”
根据最后一段“Loftus says there’s nothing to stop parents from trying it with their overweight children.“Parents have been lying about Father Christmas for years, and nobody seems to mind.If they can prevent diseases caused by fatness and all the other problems that come with that, you might think that’s a more moral lie.Decide that for yourself.”
Why are Italian dishes richer in the ingredients after the 14th century?

Why does the author mention Piero Camporesi?
A.To prove Artusi’s point of view. B.To advocate recipes in Italian.
C.To show literature’s importance. D.To praise Artusi’s contribution.

根据第三段“Following Italy’s unification(统一).Pellegrino Artusi, the father of Italian cuisine, noted that there was a need to build a whole Italian identity where culinary tradition played an important role. His Italian cookbook Science in the Kitchen and the Art of Eating Well increased the cultural unification.(在意大利统一之后。意大利烹饪之父佩莱格里诺·阿图西(Pellegrino Artusi)指出,有必要建立一个完整的意大利身份,在这个身份中,烹饪传统发挥着重要作用。他的意大利烹饪书《厨房的科学》和《饮食的艺术》促进了文化的统一)”可知,Pellegrino Artusi的书促进了文化的统一。因此这里提及Piero Camporesi是为了强调赞美Piero Camporesi的巨大贡献。故选D。

35.主旨大意题。根据第一段“Italian cuisine, deeply linked with ancient cultures like the Greeks, Arabs, and Romans, reflects a rich culinary(烹饪的)heritage. It has been influenced by historical events, regional climates, and cultural exchanges. Many Italians see traditional Italian dishes as the most significant aspect of their national identity, over culture, fashion, football, science and technology. This deep connection to culinary tradition highlights the significant role of food in shaping Italian culture and identity.(意大利菜与希腊、阿拉伯和罗马等古代文化有着密切的联系,反映了丰富的烹饪传统。它受到历史事件、地区气候和文化交流的影响。许多意大利人认为传统的意大利菜是他们国家身份最重要的方面,超过了文化、时尚、足球、科学和技术。这种与烹饪传统的深刻联系凸显了食物在塑造意大利文化和身份方面的重要作用)”可知,本文介绍了意大利饮食文化的形成历史并强调了饮食对意大利人的文化和身份认同的重要作用,即意大利饮食的历史和文化影响。故选A。

Now!”
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150个左右;

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Mason raced to Soup and Home, breaking through the door breathlessly. “Mom! Mom!” Mason called out, leaning against the wall to catch his breath. “Ice cream! And soup! Mix them — cold ice-cream soups!” He watched his mother’s face, holding his breath. At first, she frowned, thinking. Then a smile spread across her face, slow and bright. “Let’s try it now!” Without delay, she scooped vanilla ice cream into a bowl, adding ripe strawberries that bled into the cream as she stirred. After tasting the creation, her eyes lit up with delight. “That’s brilliant!” she cried, pulling Mason into a joyful hug, all her worries seeming to melt away at that moment.
From that day on, Soup and Home had a new summer menu — ice-cream soups. Word spread far and wide that it was a great place to go to beat the heat. Among the eager customers was Sam, giving Mason a thumbs-up while enjoying a bowl of chilled strawberry soup. A wave of immense pride and joy washed over Mason as he watched the bustling scene. He saw his mother moving between tables, her face glowing with a relieved smile as she received compliments. Their little restaurant, once quiet in the summer, was now filled with laughter and life, all thanks to a simple yet sweet idea.
