(本题10分)Out of all fields of science, physics has a reputation for being difficult to the general public. On top of complex formulas (公式), the abstract concepts that make it up are sometimes simply hard to grasp. That’s why professor Tatiana Erukhimova works alongside the team of the Physics & Astronomy department at Texas A & M University (TAMU) to produce a series of videos showing real-world applications of physics in a fun and insightful way that has earned her fans around the world.
Not only are the explanations in every video easy to follow, but Erukhimova’s enthusiasm is what truly keeps the viewer engaged. For example, in one video, the cheerful professor explains the physics of pressure. To demonstrate how distributing weight allows seemingly fragile objects to carry heavier loads, the teacher excitedly steps on a tiny board with lightbulbs and then proceeds to replicate (复制) the experiment with eggs — until it takes an unexpected turn.
Erukhimova’s unique teaching method comes from her hope to get students interested through demonstrative classes. “You get this ‘wow factor’ and then it’s easier to find resonance (共鸣).” she said. “I like what I teach, and I try to share my excitement with them.”
Born to physicist parents, Erukhimova has had a unique attachment to the field since she was very little. “My passion for physics is just in my genes, and I cannot imagine my life without physics,” she explained. After being offered a position at Texas A & M almost 25 years ago, Erukhimova moved from Russia to Texas. Since then, she has won over both university students and casual viewers with her particular way of explaining science.
While she is aware that people may not learn a lot from watching a short video, getting them interested and curious about learning more is all worth it.
24.(2.5分)Why does physics seem difficult to the general public?
A.It has many formulas. B.It’s boring and useless.
C.Its concepts are abstract. D.Access to educational resources is limited.
25.(2.5分)What makes Erukhimova’s videos popular?
A.Her family background. B.Her respect for her students.
C.Her vivid language and personality. D.Her enthusiasm and teaching method.
26.(2.5分)What does Erukhimova hope to achieve through her demonstrative classes?
A.Winning over casual viewers and fans.
B.Getting students interested in physics.
C.Sharing her excitement about physics.
D.Improving students’ academic performance.
27.(2.5分)What can be learned about Erukhimova?
A.She has many hobbies. B.She is a famous scientist.
C.She is devoted to her job. D.She earns a very high salary.
(本题10分)Giving students a chance to write about their passions can help them engage not only in writing but also in what they’re learning. Research suggests when given the opportunity to write more about subjects that interest them, students tend to spend more time in the process.
To spend their writing time on a subject that fuels their interests can also help students build important skills they need in their education. Some research points out a deep knowledge of a subject is essential before students can analyze, evaluate or synthesize. A student passionate about a topic likely knows a great deal about the subject, and that is a key first step before making connections with and critically analyzing a subject, and applying those skills to other subjects, as well.
Curriculum designers want to look at using journal writing as one method of involving students in topics they care about or have a passion to explore. A 2006 paper found journal assignments helped students make sense of what they were learning, rather than just memorize a topic, which promoted more critical thinking skills.
Poetry festivals, held by the Sharon Public Schools in Massachusetts, or spoken word assignments, used by teachers at schools including the Academy of American Studies in New York City, are other ways educators can help channel students and their passions into writing.
Allowing students to choose their writing topics may not only help bring about more assignments full of passion, but also spark the development of key learning skills.
28.(2.5分)What makes students spend more time writing?
A.The interest. B.The knowledge. C.The writing skill. D.The analysis.
29.(2.5分)Why do curriculum designers use journal assignments?
A.To help students do their homework.
B.To help students understand what they are learning.
C.To help students memorize a topic.
D.To help students read the journals.
30.(2.5分)What does the text mainly talk about?
A.Giving students a chance to learn special subjects.
B.Writing subjects students love fuels learning.
C.Journal writing helps develop students’ speaking skill.
D.Allowing students to choose their own pace of study.
31.(2.5分)In which column of a newspaper does the text most probably appear?
A.Science. B.Geography. C.Health. D.Education.
(本题10分)Any birder knows the thrill of identifying a new species. Recently, a woman noticed an unfamiliar woodpecker (啄木鸟). Curious, she fished out her phone and soon got the answer on her phone app.
Scientists usually regard curiosity as motivation for discovering new information and learning, noting people tend to seek answers quickly. Previous research showed that when given a choice, people generally opted for the fastest path to resolution. But this picture of curiosity is incomplete.
In a study published, the researchers explored whether there are multiple forms of curiosity. More than 2,000 people aged 19 to 76 years were asked to watch a series of short videos, each starting with a blank screen. A line would then appear, gradually taking shape. While the participants watched each video, they were asked to assess their level of inquiring mind about the final form of the drawing, on a scale of 1 to 100. Their responses enabled the researchers to evaluate how curiosity shifted with the unfolding content. Participants were also offered two options: follow the slow progress of the drawing or skip straight to the ending to see the complete image at once.
The research found that although natural curiosity can indeed drive an urgent desire for answers, it can also generate more patience, setting people up for moments of discovery. Participants with higher levels of curiosity about the final shape tended to follow its gradual development instead of skipping to the answer.
The study underlines the complexity of curiosity, opening new ways for further research. “Considering curiosity as going beyond the need for quick answers also highlights the power of what happens when we engage with uncertainty: pondering (深思) and anticipating answers can improve learning and memory,” said Rooth Moran, leader of the study. “Learning new things can be tough, but taking advantage of curiosity can help us enjoy the process of learning and delight in overcoming challenges as we work out a mystery.”
32.(2.5分)What do scientists generally believe about curiosity?
A.It makes people entirely impatient.
B.It quickens people’s pursuit of answers.
C.It slows people’s pace of making discoveries.
D.It forces people to make an immediate decision.
33.(2.5分)How was participants’ curiosity measured in the study?
A.By scoring their inner desire. B.By recording their watching times.
C.By comparing their watching speeds. D.By observing their instant responses.
34.(2.5分)What is the major finding of the research?
A.Less curiosity, more patience. B.Less curiosity, fewer discoveries.
C.Curiosity strong, process favored. D.Curiosity strong, result prioritized.
35.(2.5分)What are Rooth Moran’s remarks about?
A.The value of curiosity in learning. B.The hidden reasons behind curiosity.
C.The way to make the most of curiosity. D.The difficulty in overcoming curiosity.

六、书面表达
67.(本题25分)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
The day our teacher put up the sign-up sheet for the school play, my stomach instantly tightened. While others saw a chance to shine under the bright lights, I wandered aimlessly at the back, my palms growing damp. The thought of standing onstage made my heart race in the worst way. I preferred staying backstage — quiet, unseen, surrounded only by my scripts and notes.
Lily, the drama club president, noticed my hesitation. She was the kind of person who could light up a room with her energy. During rehearsal (预演) one afternoon, she found me arranging props (道具) in the corner. “We need someone for a small speaking role,” she said gently. “Would you be willing to give it a try?” I shook my head, but Lily didn’t give up that easily.
The following week, she persuaded me to join a group reading. My hands trembled as I held the script. When it was my turn to speak, my voice barely rose above a murmur. Some students snickered (偷笑), and my face burned with shame. I wanted to escape, but Lily stopped me. “Let’s read it together,” she offered, reading the lines with me. Slowly, other cast (演出人员) members joined in, offering tips and encouragement.
To my surprise, I started enjoying our rehearsals. The cast became like a second family — we supported each other through forgotten lines and awkward movements. My initial fear gradually transformed into cautious excitement.
As opening night approached, I found myself actually looking forward to it. I practiced my lines constantly, even in front of my mirror at home. I couldn’t stop imagining the moment when the curtains would lift and the stage lights would shine down. I was ready, but also a bit nervous. After all, I had prepared for such a long time.

注意:
1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Paragraph 1: The night of the performance arrived at last.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 2: When the final curtain fell, I stood breathless in the spotlight.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Paragraph 1:
The night of the performance arrived at last. As I stood in the wings waiting for my turn, familiar doubts crept back. My palms grew damp, and the script pages in my hand trembled slightly. What if I forgot my lines? What if my voice failed me again? I glanced at Lily, who gave me an encouraging thumbs-up from across the stage. Taking a deep breath, I repeated my first line in my mind like a prayer. When the stage manager whispered “Go”, I stepped into the bright lights, my heart pounding not just with nervousness, but with a newfound determination to conquer this moment.
Paragraph 2:
When the final curtain fell, I stood breathless in the spotlight. The thunderous applause washed over me like a gentle, comforting wave. Lily rushed over and embraced me tightly. “You are absolutely wonderful!” she exclaimed. At that moment, I realized this was more than just a successful performance — it was a personal victory. As I hugged my fellow cast members, I understood that sometimes the bravest thing isn’t to avoid fear, but to face it with the support of those who believe in you. This was just the beginning of my journey toward confidence, both on and off the stage.
