(本题10分)By my early 40s, I had attempted all the hobbies meant to make me feel better about entering middle age. I had taken an improv (即兴表演) class, started learning a new language, and given yoga a second chance. Then, at the height of my despair, I decided to sign up for a ballet class.
“But you’re not very flexible,” my husband gently reminded me. He wasn’t wrong. Yet I was determined to give it a try. I hadn’t expected any of it to stick. But this time, the exact same things that had made me escape the studio as a 10-year-old now brought me joy. And though I’d thought my classes to be physically demanding, I hadn’t expected that my teacher’s command to “take up more space” would change my way of being in the world. When I sighed over my lack of grace in the seemingly simple act, my teacher reminded me that ballet isn’t about perfection. Rather, it’s about striving for perfection.
Slowly, I started becoming more comfortable with the body in the mirror. My posture still needs work, and my jumps are never as high as they feel. But it encourages me that my body isn’t stiff and still functions well. Instead of noticing only the signs of aging, I am now amazed at what my body is capable of. As for the imperfections? They’re part of being alive.
Eight years into my ballet classes, I’m what you would call a lifelong advanced beginner. At the age of 50, I am finally a ballerina, though not the kind that anybody would pay to see on stage. I kept on dancing. When I do my daily ballet class, I focus on my breathing and move my body in ways that always challenge me and remind me of everything that is possible.
Why did the author finally attend the ballet class?
A.To follow the fashion. B.To lift her spirits up.
C.To keep a slim figure. D.To seek like-minded friends.
What was the author’s dancing experience like?
A.Tough but rewarding. B.Challenging and fruitless.
C.Demanding but heartwarming. D.Comforting and enjoyable.
What encourages the author to persist in dancing according to paragraph 3?
A.Her perfect movements. B.The teacher’s strictness.
C.The focus on being alive. D.Her still flexible condition.
What message does the passage want to express?
A.Better late than never. B.Better to strive than to arrive.
C.Practice makes perfect. D.Where there’s a will, there’s a way.
(本题10分)The value of embracing adversity (逆境) is almost always discovered after the fact. This is because it is also a truth that learning in the face of challenge, disappointment and frustration is as important as understanding what it takes to be successful. Learning these lessons well and surviving the tests that the lessons lie in lead to even greater moments of confidence and accomplishment.
Young athletes that are comfortable overcoming adversities are the ones that find the greatest growth, and ultimately the greatest success. Famous strength coach Vern Gambetta and others summarized this concept in the thought that, to be great, you must “be comfortable being uncomfortable”. To put it bluntly (直言地) the best athletes welcome challenge and adversity as a requirement for growth and achievement. The best coaches create environments that challenge limits and take athletes to places they wouldn’t go to on their own, and even create adversity from time to time for this reason.
To sum up, one very basic but exceptionally powerful conclusion can be reached: Young athletes, when facing moments of frustration and challenge in their personal sporting development, must be encouraged to solve problems themselves, work harder to overcome disappointments, and take ownership and control of their own destinies.
In today’s society, unfortunately, eliminating any sign of potential adversity for young athletes is universal (普遍的). Well-intentioned individuals (parents, coaches and many other related adults) frequently try to remove every barrier and challenge on the road their young athlete travels. The unfortunate product of these good intentions is only realized when the athletes finally come to a challenge that they must meet alone and then find themselves completely unprepared to deal with it and have a tough time reviving if they fail to overcome the challenge.
Psychologist Max Trenerry notes that the concept of willingness to accept adversity or failure is important whether for learning new skills in sports or dealing with anxiety-causing thoughts in therapy. He adds that, while every parent may ‘rescue’ their children from time to time, doing so frequently creates bigger long-term complications and prevents growth of personal perseverance.
Which statement will Vern Gambetta probably agree with?
A.Great athletes are good at avoiding adversity.
B.Good learners tend to have ambitious goals.
C.Athletes leading a relaxed life can be more successful.
D.Coaches should bring more challenges to athletes.
Which of the following can replace the underlined word “eliminating” in paragraph 4?
A.Facilitating. B.Creating. C.Removing. D.Welcoming.
What can we infer about the practice of removing adversity for young athletes?
A.It helps athletes build confidence quickly.
B.It may cause long-term problems for athletes.
C.It is supported by most psychologists.
D.It prepares athletes well for future challenges.
What does Max Trenerry think of parents “rescuing” their children frequently?
A.It is harmful to the development of children’s perseverance.
B.It is the best way to protect children from failure.
C.It helps children learn new skills more easily.
D.It reduces children’s anxiety about challenges.
(本题10分)People at your age, like classmates, are peers. When they influence your decisions or actions, it’s called peer pressure — something all of us have faced and must deal with at some point in our life. The need to follow the crowd and do what the majority are doing forces us to take up activities which we wouldn’t otherwise engage in.
Recent studies show peer pressure can bring an upside: it makes you reflect on your actions and improve. Observing others working hard to reach their goals will definitely encourage you to make a great effort to achieve something positive. For example, when a teen knows that his teammates are practicing hard to become better players, it will directly affect his own performance. He will put in twice the time and energy to raise the level of his game and ensure he has a place on the team. Positive peer groups also help you develop healthy habits that shape your personality and future. If friends read regularly or exercise daily, you may adopt these habits too, with peer pressure turning into motivation.
However, just as everything has two sides, peer pressure also has negatives. It can lower self-confidence; some kids give in to fit in, avoid mockery (嘲笑), or satisfy curiosity, abandoning good judgment for “everyone’s doing it.” It may also distance you from loved ones, making teens feel misunderstood and drawn to bad company.
Peer pressure affects many areas of life, from clothes to music. It can be hard to resist, forcing you into discomfort. Thus, recognizing and choosing positive peer influences for healthy, happy experiences is a lifelong task.
What does the underlined word “upside” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A.Risk B.Advantage C.Difficulty D.Change
Which of the following is a result of positive peer pressure?
A.A student starts reading often because his friends do.
B.A teen smokes to avoid being laughed at by peers.
C.A child skips homework to play with classmates.
D.A teenager keeps secrets from parents to fit in.
Why do some kids give in to negative peer pressure?
A.To learn from others’ good habits B.To keep up with the crowd and avoid being mocked
C.To double their effort in team training D.To develop a lifelong good habit
What is the author’s suggestion towards peer pressure?
A.Ignore all peer influences in daily life B.Give in to peer pressure to fit in with the group
C.Recognize and choose positive peer influences D.Stay away from all peers to avoid pressure
(本题12.5分)Watching a film critically is a skill worth developing because it helps you learn what makes a film good according to your own tastes. What makes the early films of a director great fun while the later ones a total mess? 36(2.5分) Here, we take a look at how you can watch films more critically.
Give the film your undivided attention at least once. Filmmakers accept that they won’t always have their audience’s undivided attention. Significant plot points will be highlighted with incidental music so that you focus. 37(2.5分) Try, just once, to watch the film as they intended.
Consider the themes the film explored. Picking out the themes and assessing how the film treats them is a central point of film criticism. It might be an uncomfortable allegory (讽喻). 38(2.5分) For instance, The Lion King drew on the plot of Hamlet. Does it breathe new life into the story and take it in an interesting direction?
Analyze sound, lighting and production. You may only notice sound if the levels are all wrong and the incidental music drowns out the dialog. Lighting, similarly, you may only notice if everything is so bright that it looks like the action is taking place in a dentist’s office. 39(2.5分) You might consider how the choice of costume brightens a character.
40(2.5分) It’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking that there is something that is objectively good or bad. But if you find yourself loving a film that other people seem to dislike, that isn’t necessarily a sign that there’s something wrong with your taste. It could be that a film’s sense of humor agrees with your own, or that a film reflects your life experiences.
A.Don’t forget that it’s all subjective.
B.Think about why you did or didn’t enjoy it.
C.Try to train yourself to see these aspects of a film every time.
D.Why do some films excite people while others send people to sleep?
E.How was the film constructed to provide a new insight into the theme?
F.Characters’ names might be repeated to make sure that you’ve heard them.
G.You can also consider if the film has drawn any inspiration from other source material.

Society often celebrates success and hides failure, but the path to achievement is usually paved with setbacks. J.K. Rowling’s first Harry Potter manuscript was rejected by twelve publishers. Steven Spielberg was rejected from film school multiple times. These stories remind us that failure is not the opposite of success; it is 56(1.5分) integral part of the journey. Failure provides invaluable data. It teaches us what doesn’t work, 57(1.5分) forces us to innovate and adapt. Thomas Edison famously said of the light bulb, “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” This mindset views failure as a learning opportunity rather than 58(1.5分) final verdict. The fear of failure, however, can be paralyzing. It can prevent us 59(1.5分) taking risks or trying new things. To overcome this, we must reframe our perception of failure. We should aim for progress, not perfection. Each small stumble is a step forward 60(1.5分) (long) as we learn from it. Resilience — the ability to bounce back from adversity — is a key trait developed through experiencing and overcoming failure. Building resilience requires self-compassion and a focus on effort over outcome. It’s also helpful to share our failures; 61(1.5分) (do) so reduces stigma and creates a supportive environment where others feel safe to take risks. In science, business, and art, breakthroughs are rarely achieved without prior failures. Embracing failure as a teacher, 62(1.5分) than a tormentor, unlocks creativity and perseverance. So, the next time you face a setback, ask yourself: “What can I learn from this?” This simple question can transform a moment of 63(1.5分) (frustrate) into a powerful catalyst for growth. Remember, the only true failure is the failure 64(1.5分) learn and to try again. Success often lies just beyond the point where most people choose 65(1.5分) (give) up.

The first time my daughter, Maia, realized I was leaving on a trip without her, she was alarmed. She was three, and as a new travel writer, I was excited about a solo (独自的) visit alone to South Carolina.
Seeing photos of where I was going, she didn’t hold back her despair. “Why did you even have me if you were just going to leave me behind?” she sobbed.
I tried to tell her that someday she’d understand. But as my husband, Evan, pried(拉开) her off my leg so I could leave, I wondered if my solo trip would be worth the effort of going without her.
Returning home after a few days away, I felt energized and inspired. Maia was happy to hear about my trip. She told me I could keep going on trips for work— but she’d come with me.
Growing up on a sailing boat gave Maia an early sense of adventure. Travelling is something Evan and I hoped Maia would love. Our goal was to set out sailing again when she was seven, an age when she’d be able to remember the voyage. Until then, the plan was for me to travel on my own and build a writing career while we took Maia on short family trips. But then, a year later, an invitation came to experience the Rocky Mountaineer on a parent-child journey through the Rockies, which sounded too good to pass up.
Ever since Maia was little, she’d dreamed of travelling the world with her parents. Dressed in her fanciest train-riding clothes, four-year-old Maia watched me take notes about the scenery as we traveled along the Fraser River in BC. Wanting to prove her worth as an assistant, she began interviewing the Australian couple across the aisle from us. Unable to spell more than a few words, she drew their answers in crayon.
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
I was surprised when Maia ended up being such an easy travel companion.

M: I don’t know, but my vote is for the amusement park.

I am often asked what the defining moment in my life was. Was it opening my first restaurant? Was it serving food to some of the world’s most famous people? Or was it becoming a successful businessman? Well, I would say that none of these things was the right answer. My defining moment was when I left home to study at university. Up until then I was a child. I was well taken care of by my family. My mother was kind and thoughtful. The meals she made were wonderful and gave me the best ideas for my future as a restaurateur. But starting university was a shock. Suddenly, I had to look after myself, pay for what I’ve got, and even cook for myself. I was lost at that moment. How would I manage all the stuff? But I finally did it. I learnt from these difficulties and the experiences made me stronger. I took Mom’s cooking advice and turned it into something new, something that various people have praised me for. Shortly after leaving university, I opened my first restaurant in London. Since then I have opened branches in Paris, New York and many other cities. Now I employ some of the world’s leading chefs, artists in their profession. But it is still the inspiration my mom gave me that is the foundation of my restaurant empire.

【答案】24.B 25.A 26.C 27.B
根据第一段“Then, at the height of my despair, I decided to sign up for a ballet class.(就在我陷入极度低落时,我决定报名芭蕾课。)”
根据第二段“And though I’d thought my classes to be physically demanding, I hadn’t expected that my teacher’s command to ‘take up more space’ would change my way of being in the world.(虽然我早料到芭蕾课对体能消耗很大,却万万没想到老师那句‘大胆舒展、放开自己’的叮嘱,会彻底改变我看待生活、立身于世的心态。)”以及第三段“Slowly, I started becoming more comfortable with the body in the mirror.(慢慢地,我开始坦然接纳镜子里自己的身体。)”、“Instead of noticing only the signs of aging, I am now amazed at what my body is capable of.(从前我只会盯着身上衰老的痕迹暗自难过,如今却惊叹于自己身体蕴藏的无限潜能。)”
根据第三段“Instead of noticing only the signs of aging, I am now amazed at what my body is capable of. As for the imperfections? They’re part of being alive.(从前我只会留意身上衰老的痕迹,如今却惊叹于身体蕴藏的力量。至于那些不完美?那正是鲜活活着的证明。)”可知,作者不再纠结衰老与动作缺陷,懂得接纳不完美、珍视鲜活的生命本身,这份对“活着”的感悟支撑她坚持跳舞。
27.主旨大意题。根据第二段“When I sighed over my lack of grace in the seemingly simple act, my teacher reminded me that ballet isn’t about perfection. Rather, it’s about striving for perfection.(每当我因为连看似简单的动作都做得毫无优雅可言而叹气时,老师都会开导我:芭蕾追求的从来不是完美无瑕的结果,而是拼尽全力奔赴完美的过程。)”以及最后一段“When I do my daily ballet class, I focus on my breathing and move my body in ways that always challenge me and remind me of everything that is possible.(每日练习芭蕾时,我专注调整呼吸,用充满挑战的方式舒展身体,这时刻提醒我:世间万事皆有实现的可能。)”
【答案】28.D 29.C 30.B 31.A
根据第二段中“Famous strength coach Vern Gambetta and others summarized this concept in the thought that, to be great, you must “be comfortable being uncomfortable”. To put it bluntly (直言地) the best athletes welcome challenge and adversity as a requirement for growth and achievement. The best coaches create environments that challenge limits and take athletes to places they wouldn’t go to on their own, and even create adversity from time to time for this reason.( 著名的力量教练Vern Gambetta和其他人总结了这个概念,认为要想变得伟大,你必须“适应不舒服”。
根据第四段划线单词后文“Well-intentioned individuals (parents, coaches and many other related adults) frequently try to remove every barrier and challenge on the road their young athlete travels.( 善意的个人(父母、教练和许多其他相关的成年人)经常试图消除他们的年轻运动员在旅途中的每一个障碍和挑战。)”
根据第四段中“The unfortunate product of these good intentions is only realized when the athletes finally come to a challenge that they must meet alone and then find themselves completely unprepared to deal with it and have a tough time reviving if they fail to overcome the challenge.( 这些良好意愿的不幸结果只有在运动员最终面临挑战时才会意识到,他们必须独自面对挑战,然后发现自己完全没有准备好应对它,如果他们不能克服挑战,他们将很难恢复。)”
根据最后一段“Psychologist Max Trenerry notes that the concept of willingness to accept adversity or failure is important whether for learning new skills in sports or dealing with anxiety-causing thoughts in therapy. He adds that, while every parent may ‘rescue’ their children from time to time, doing so frequently creates bigger long-term complications and prevents growth of personal perseverance.( 心理学家Max Trenerry指出,愿意接受逆境或失败的概念是很重要的,无论是在学习体育运动中的新技能还是在治疗中处理引起焦虑的想法。他还说,虽然每个父母都会时不时地“拯救”自己的孩子,但这样做往往会造成更大的长期问题,并阻碍个人毅力的培养。)”可推知,Max Trenerry 明确表示,频繁“拯救”孩子会造成更严重的长期问题,阻碍孩子毅力的培养。故选A项。
【答案】32.B 33.A 34.B 35.C
根据第二段中划线词后文“it makes you reflect on your actions and improve. Observing others working hard to reach their goals will definitely encourage you to make a great effort to achieve something positive. (它会让你反思自己的行为并加以改进。看到别人为了实现目标而努力奋斗,肯定会激励你付出巨大的努力去达成一些积极的事情)”以及“Positive peer groups also help you develop healthy habits that shape your personality and future. (积极的同伴群体也有助于你养成健康的习惯,塑造你的个性和未来)”可知,同伴压力能带来积极的结果,因此,划线词“upside”应为“优点,好处”之意,与“Advantage”意思相近。故选B项。
33.细节理解题。根据第二段中“If friends read regularly or exercise daily, you may adopt these habits too, with peer pressure turning into motivation. (如果朋友们经常阅读或每天锻炼,你也会养成这些习惯,同伴压力变成了动力)”可知,一个学生因为朋友经常阅读而开始经常阅读是积极同伴压力的结果。故选A项。
根据第三段中“It can lower self-confidence; some kids give in to fit in, avoid mockery (嘲笑), or satisfy curiosity, abandoning good judgment for “everyone’s doing it.” (它会降低自信心;有些孩子为了融入群体、避免嘲笑或满足好奇心而屈服,为了“大家都在做”而放弃良好的判断力)”可知,有些孩子屈服于消极的同伴压力是为了融入群体,避免被嘲笑。故选B项。
35.细节理解题。根据最后一段中“Thus, recognizing and choosing positive peer influences for healthy, happy experiences is a lifelong task. (因此,为了健康、快乐的体验,识别和选择积极的同伴影响是一项终身任务)”可知,作者对于同伴压力的建议是识别并选择积极的同伴影响。故选C项。
【答案】36.D 37.F 38.G 39.C 40.A
根据前文“What makes the early films of a director great fun while the later ones a total mess?(是什么让一个导演的早期电影非常有趣,而后来的电影却一团糟?)”可知,空前是问句,后文要么是对本句的回答,要么继续提问,形成排比句,所以D项“Why do some films excite people while others send people to sleep?(为什么有些电影让人兴奋,而有些电影让人昏昏欲睡?)”
37.根据前文“Give the film your undivided attention at least once. Filmmakers accept that they won’t always have their audience’s undivided attention. Significant plot points will be highlighted with incidental music so that you focus.(至少一次专心致志地看这部电影。电影制作人承认,他们并不总是能吸引观众的注意力。关键剧情节点会搭配配乐加以烘托,以此让观众集中注意力。)”可知,此处主要讲述了电影制作人用各种方法去吸引观众的注意力,所以F项“Characters’ names might be repeated to make sure that you’ve heard them.(角色的名字可能会被重复,以确保你听到了他们的名字)”符合此处主题,都是吸引观众的注意力的方法。故选F项。
38.根据前文“Consider the themes the film explored. Picking out the themes and assessing how the film treats them is a central point of film criticism. It might be an uncomfortable allegory (讽喻).(想想这部电影探讨的主题。挑选出电影的主题并评估影片如何处理这些主题是影评的核心。这可能是一个令人不舒服的讽喻)”可知,本段讲述电影如何表达主题,根据后文“For instance, The Lion King drew on the plot of Hamlet. Does it breathe new life into the story and take it in an interesting direction?(例如,《狮子王》借鉴了《哈姆雷特》情节。它是否为故事注入了新的活力,并把它带向一个有趣的方向?)”可知,后文举例,讲述了主题借鉴其他作品,所以G项“You can also consider if the film has drawn any inspiration from other source material.(你也可以考虑这部电影是否从其他材料中获得了灵感)”符合本段主题,后文是对此句的举例。故选G项。
39.根据前文“Analyze sound, lighting and production. You may only notice sound if the levels are all wrong and the incidental music drowns out the dialog. Lighting, similarly, you may only notice if everything is so bright that it looks like the action is taking place in a dentist’s office.(分析音响、灯光及制作效果。只有当音量严重失调或配乐盖过对白时,你才会注意到音响问题;同理,只有当灯光亮如牙科诊所时,你才会意识到布光的存在)”可知,C项“Try to train yourself to see these aspects of a film every time.(试着训练自己每次都能看到电影的这些方面)”可知,本句中“这些方面”指的就是音响、灯光及制作效果,是对前文的总结,符合文意。故选C项。
40.设空位于段首,为本段中心句,根据后文“It’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking that there is something that is objectively good or bad. But if you find yourself loving a film that other people seem to dislike, that isn’t necessarily a sign that there’s something wrong with your taste. It could be that a film’s sense of humor agrees with your own, or that a film reflects your life experiences.(我们很容易陷入这样的思维陷阱,认为客观存在着好坏之分。但是,如果你发现自己喜欢一部别人似乎不喜欢的电影,这并不一定表明你的品味有问题。它可能是一部电影的幽默感与你自己的幽默感一致,或者一部电影反映了你的生活经历)”可知,本段主要讲述,电影的好坏是主观的印象而不是客观的,所以A项“Don’t forget that it’s all subjective.(别忘了这都是主观的)”符合本段主题。故选A项。

Dear fellow students,
Today, I feel honored to share my thoughts on the topic “Learning to Make Choices”.
As we grow up, we are constantly faced with various situations where we have to make choices. When meeting difficulties, I choose to face them bravely rather than escape, because only by overcoming challenges can we make progress. If opportunities arise, I will seize them without hesitation, for chances always favor the prepared mind. When it comes to life, I choose to follow my heart and pursue what truly matters to me.
Through these experiences, I have come to realize that making choices is never easy, but it is an essential part of our growth. Even if we make wrong decisions sometimes, we should never give up or regret, because every choice teaches us something valuable.
I sincerely hope that every one of us can learn to make wise choices and take full responsibility for our decisions. Let’s embrace every choice with courage and confidence!
Thank you for listening.

注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
I was surprised when Maia ended up being such an easy travel companion.

It was a trip to the coastal town that helped us reconnect.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
I was surprised when Maia ended up being such an easy travel companion. Her curiosity and enthusiasm for the new environment quickly overshadowed any signs of discomfort. Despite her young age, she took in the scenery with an eager eye, constantly asking questions about the different landmarks and cultures we encountered. Her excitement for the journey was infectious, making even the long train rides seem like a mere blink of an eye.
It was a trip to the coastal town that helped us reconnect. As we walked along the seashore, the soft sand beneath our feet and the gentle waves crashing against the shore created a serene backdrop for our conversations. Maia shared her dreams of exploring the world, while I told her stories of my own travels and adventures. In those moments, I realized how much she had grown and how proud I was of her independence and curiosity. It was a trip that not only broadened our horizons but also strengthened the bond between us as a family.
