The first time I seriously questioned my own judgment was not during a math exam or a college interview, but on a sticky July afternoon, surrounded by the deafening silence of a party that nobody attended. My name is Dorian, and I was turning seventeen — a milestone that had somehow been reduced to a hollow (空洞的) joke.
It had all begun with a miscalculation so silly that I still feel awkward whenever I think about it. Having misread the group chat’s calendar, I had firmly believed that my closest friends — Elias, Thalia, and the rest — were planning secretly to throw a surprise party for me. Consequently, I spent three weeks making overly obvious suggestions about my favorite cake flavors, expecting a grand celebration. What I failed to realize, however, was that the event they were actually planning was a farewell (欢送) gathering for a teacher who was transferring to another school.
The conflict of these two separate universes occurred at precisely 4 pm three weeks later. While I stood in my mother’s newly cleaned living room, wearing a silly party hat and waiting for the doorbell to ring, I received a single text from Elias: “Dorian, where are you? We’re all at the school gym. Coach Miller’s leaving.” The shock was physically painful; I felt my face burn with an embarrassment so intense that I briefly considered pretending an illness just to escape the situation.
Eventually, I had to choose between feeling sorry for myself and saving the day. Grabbing a box of dark chocolates from the table, I ran all the way to the gym, arriving breathless just as the speeches were ending. Rather than accusing them of forgetting me, I handed the gift to Coach Miller and simply said, “I heard you like dark chocolate.” It was a lie, of course, but watching his face light up made the lie feel kinder than the truth would have been. This taught me that the world does not exist to meet my expectations.
4. Why did Dorian expect a party?
A. He misunderstood group messages. B. His friends planned a big get-together.
C. His classmates reminded him clearly. D. He decided to give a teacher a surprise.
5. What happened to Dorian that afternoon three weeks later?
A. He forgot the party totally. B. The party began ahead of time.
C. No guests showed up at his home. D. Miller sent him congratulations.
6. What did Dorian do after he learned about the truth?
A. He behaved thoughtfully. B. He forgave his friends’ mistake.
C. He told the truth to his coach. D. He held another celebration party.
7. What does the author intend to tell readers?
A. Staying with like-minded friends. B. Avoiding becoming self-centered.
C. Valuing the roles of lies in daily life. D. Learning to face sudden embarrassment.
C
A popular musician posts a music video or an athlete shares a workout, and suddenly they seem like part of our lives. People like and share these posts, and over time, admiration can start to feel like friendship — people like to think they know celebrities. Psychology Today defines this phenomenon as a parasocial relationship (准社会关系) — a one-sided connection that exists only in the fan’s mind. First identified in 1956 to describe television viewers feeling closely connected to on-screen figures, this behavior has existed for ages.
Today, social platforms deepen this illusion by offering constant, seemingly real updates on the lives of public figures. However, what audiences actually see is a carefully selected version of reality, edited for perfection rather than truth. Despite this created closeness, young people frequently view celebrities as standards for success. This influence often unconsciously shapes everything from their self-image to their long-term career goals.
These relationships are not always harmful. For some, especially those who feel left out in society, seeing public figures with similar backgrounds can offer a sense of belonging. These connections can inspire confidence and make people feel less alone. In that sense, they can serve a real and meaningful purpose, offering comfort.
The danger arises when the line between admiration and imagination disappears. The relationship becomes unhealthy when fans act as if they truly know a celebrity. They might take planned posts as personal messages and develop unrealistic expectations. Furthermore, these feelings now extend to artificial intelligence (AI). Chatbots acting like real friends can produce deep emotional responses, making it harder to tell real human connection from AI.
Admiration itself is fine. Music, sports and entertainment have long connected communities, but that influence needs clear boundaries. Without them, simply watching a video is easily mistaken for close friendship, and carefully chosen content is mistaken for true connection. Parasocial relationships should remain what they are: distant and one-sided. In a digital age where everything is designed to feel personal, we must remember that it is not.
8. Why did the author mention the musician and the athlete in the first paragraph?
A. To reveal the market value of stars’ posts.
B. To criticize celebrities’ too-much-sharing.
C. To show an imagined familiarity with stars.
D. To illustrate progressive fan-star connection.
9. How do digital bonds built on celebrity posts affect the youth?
A. They shape youths’ personal values. B. They make the youth perfectionists.
C. They ease beauty standards for youths. D. They develop the youth’s social skills.
10. Which of the following is an example of the “danger” in paragraph 4?
A. Flooding friends’ chats with celebrity updates.
B. Using AI chatbots to solve academic challenges.
C. Taking idols’ livestream as private video calls.
D. Tracking a star’s posts to monitor their traces.
11. What may be the best title for the text?
A. Music and Sports: The Uniting Strength B. Posts and Responses: The Healing Circle
C. Blessing or Disaster: The Booming Internet D. Stardom or Friendship: The Mistaken Closeness
D
Taking vitamins and minerals every day has already been shown to slow memory loss in people over 60. Now, it appears such supplements could slow ageing more generally.
But this finding relied on an indirect measure of ageing, so it isn’t certain what this means in terms of health benefits. We aren’t yet at a point where it could be recommended that all older adults take vitamins, says Howard Sesso at Harvard University. That said, there may at least be small benefits with very little risk. “There have been no deleterious effects of a daily multivitamin that we’ve identified so far,” he said.
To learn more about the potential benefits of multivitamin and mineral supplements, Sesso and his colleagues randomly divided 1,000 participants, with an average age of 70, into two groups: one group took the supplement, and the other took a placebo (安慰剂). “This was a very rigorous (严谨的) randomized-controlled trial: double-blind, placebo-controlled,” says Steve Horvath at the University of California, Los Angeles. “That alone sets it apart from most of the supplement literature, which relies on observational data full of other influencing factors.”
Some blood was taken from the participants at the start of the study, after one year and after two years. The DNA of immune cells in their blood was then analysed to look for the presence or absence of epigenetic (表观遗传的) markers at specific sites in the genes. The patterns of epigenetic markers change in a predictable way as people age, allowing researchers to roughly estimate how old they are from blood tests. Sesso’s team used five epigenetic clocks, which all suggested that the people taking multivitamins aged more slowly than those on placebo. “I should note, however, that the effect sizes are modest,” says Horvath, who develops epigenetic clocks. “This is not a fountain of youth.”
The researchers claim that the slowing of epigenetic clocks they found is equal to about four months over the two-year study period, but this may be misleading. One of the many issues with epigenetic clocks is that their estimates of how a slowing of the same degree translates into normal time vary widely between them, says Daniel Belsky at Columbia University in New York.
12. What does the underlined word “deleterious” in paragraph 2 mean?
A. Beneficial. B. Harmful. C. Expected. D. Obvious.
13. What does Horvath stress in paragraph 3 regarding the study?
A. The diversity of experimental samples. B. The significance of observational data.
C. The possible benefits of multivitamins. D. The strictness of experimental procedures.
14. What can we learn from paragraph 4?
A. Blood tests can predict how long people live.
B. Epigenetic changes are similar in the two groups.
C. Multivitamins have limited effect on slowing ageing.
D. Epigenetic markers can check people’s immune system.
15. What does Daniel Belsky think of epigenetic clocks?
A. Easy to handle. B. Subject to bias.
C. Different in size. D. Error-free for researchers.

Mr. Hopkins’ bookstore was a quiet island in the noisy stream of the modern city. For decades, it had been a shelter for book lovers. The wooden sign above the door, weathered but proud, read “Hopkins’ Books” in brick red. It had been a constant place where time moved slower with the first turn of a page. Now, it was closing.
The news felt like a physical blow to David, a quiet college student who had grown up reading in the cozy corners of the shop. The smell of old paper was the smell of his childhood, witnessing his growth. He couldn’t imagine the street without its warm, inviting light. When the news spread throughout the entire neighborhood, worry was written all over everyone’s faces.
The reason for the closure was a woman named Sarah Chen. Representing a large development company, she had made a generous offer to buy the building. She saw the space not for its shelves of stories, but for its potential as a trendy café, a profitable upgrade. To her, it was just business.
Mr. Hopkins, now old and tired, felt defeated. “Maybe it’s time, David,” he sighed, his hand resting on a dusty copy of his favorite novel. “The world has moved on.”
On the day of the final meeting, David arrived early, his backpack filled with items he had collected over the years from the store: a bookmark from his tenth birthday, a receipt from the first book he had bought with his own money, a photograph of himself and Mr. Hopkins taken during a summer reading program. He walked to the children’s section and drew a small, worn copy of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. The cover was faded, the pages yellowed, but the spine still held strong.
Sarah arrived precisely at 2:00 p.m. She wasted no time getting down to business, reviewing the contract with Mr. Hopkins. David watched from the sidelines, his heart pounding in his chest.

【答案】4. A 5. C 6. A 7. B

【7题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“This taught me that the world does not exist to meet my expectations. (这让我明白,世界并不是为了满足我的期望而存在的)”以及全文内容可知,作者通过多里安的故事告诫读者不要过于以自我为中心,不要认为自己是一切的焦点。
【答案】8. C 9. A 10. C 11. D
【解析】
【导语】本文主要介绍了社交媒体时代准社会关系的现象,即粉丝对名人的单向情感依恋常被误认为真实友谊,这种错觉可能带来风险,需保持界限。
【8题详解】
推理判断题。根据第一段“A popular musician posts a music video or an athlete shares a workout, and suddenly they seem like part of our lives. People like and share these posts, and over time, admiration can start to feel like friendship — people like to think they know celebrities. (一位受欢迎的音乐家发布音乐视频或运动员分享健身日常,突然间他们似乎成了我们生活的一部分。人们喜欢并分享这些帖子,随着时间的推移,崇拜开始感觉像友谊——人们喜欢认为他们了解名人。)”可知,作者提到音乐家和运动员是为了展示人们与名人之间一种想象出来的熟悉感。
【9题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段“Despite this created closeness, young people frequently view celebrities as standards for success. This influence often unconsciously shapes everything from their self-image to their long-term career goals. (尽管这种被刻意营造出来的亲近感,年轻人经常将名人视为成功的标准。这种影响常常在不知不觉中塑造了一切,从他们的自我形象到他们的长期职业目标。)”可知,建立在名人帖子上的数字纽带塑造了年轻人的个人价值观。
【10题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段“The danger arises when the line between admiration and imagination disappears. The relationship becomes unhealthy when fans act as if they truly know a celebrity. They might take planned posts as personal messages and develop unrealistic expectations. (当崇拜和想象之间的界限消失时,危险就出现了。当粉丝表现得好像他们真的了解名人时,这种关系就变得不健康了。他们可能会把计划好的帖子当作私人信息,并产生不切实际的期望。)”可知,“将偶像的直播当作私人视频通话”正是将计划好的内容误认为私人信息、产生不切实际期望的危险例子。
【11题详解】
主旨大意题。根据全文内容,尤其是第一段“People like and share these posts, and over time, admiration can start to feel like friendship — people like to think they know celebrities. (人们喜欢并分享这些帖子,随着时间的推移,崇拜开始感觉像是友谊——人们喜欢认为自己了解名人。)”以及最后一段“Parasocial relationships should remain what they are: distant and one-sided. In a digital age where everything is designed to feel personal, we must remember that it is not. (准社会关系应该保持原样:有距离的和单向的。在一个一切都被设计得让人感觉很私人的数字时代,我们必须记住,事实并非如此。)”可知,文章主要探讨了人们容易将名人的单向展示误认为真实亲密关系的现象,因此最佳标题是“Stardom or Friendship: The Mistaken Closeness (明星光环还是真实友谊:被误解的亲近感)”。

【答案】12. B 13. D 14. C 15. B

第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Paragraph 1: He couldn’t let this happen — not without trying to make his voice heard.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 2: A decision was made to combine a bookstore and a café in one project, and the construction
began. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version:
He couldn’t let this happen — not without trying to make his voice heard. As Sarah flipped through the contract, David gripped The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, stepping forward with courage. “Ms. Chen, may I show you something?” He laid out a bookmark, and faded photos — tangible threads of the neighborhood’s memories. “This store isn’t just wood and shelves: here I learned to dream, Mrs. Henderson reads to kids weekly, and Mr. Hopkins found my first poetry book.” His eyes glistened as children glanced from the corner, clutching books. “It’s a living legacy, not just profit.” Sarah’s pen froze, her gaze softening and hesitation flickering across her face.
A decision was made to combine a bookstore and a café in one project, and the construction began. Workers handled the store with utmost care crafting a cozy café bar bathed in warm light. David volunteered diligently, sorting books and hanging lights that cast gentle glows on pages. When the doors reopened, joy filled the air: kids stretched on cushions reading, and elders chatted over the bar. Mr. Hopkins smiled by the door as the store breathed new life — no longer just a book lovers’ shelter, but a vibrant harbour where memories endured and new stories unfolded.
