A little stream ran down from a high mountain through many villages and forests. Then she reached a desert. “I went through so many difficulties. I should have no problem crossing the desert,” she thought. As she started, she found herself slowly disappearing into the sand. After many tries, she still failed. “Maybe I can’t reach the ocean.” she said sadly to herself.
At this time, a deep voice said, “If a breeze (微风) can cross the desert, so can a river,” It was the voice of the desert. But the little stream answered, “That’s because a breeze can fly, but I cannot.”
“That’s because you can’t give up what you are. Let yourself evaporate into the breeze, and it can take you across,” said the desert, “Give up what I am now? No! No!” The little stream could not accept this idea. “The breeze can carry the vapor (蒸气) across the desert and let it leave as rain. The rain will form a river again, said the desert. “And whether you’re a river or vapor, your nature never changes.” Hearing this, the little stream went into the open arms of the breeze, It carried her to the next stage of her life.

Passage 5
(25-26九年级上·天津滨海新区·期中)Last year, I went to the 41st Weifang International Kite Festival with my friend Emma. The sky was full of amazing kites—pandas, cars, dragons and so on. The locals said proudly, “In Weifang, everything can fly in the sky.” People from 46 countries came to join the fun.
While we were there, Emma and I looked up kite history on our phones. I thought Laozi might have invented kites, but I was wrong! It was actually Mozi who invented kites over 2,000 years ago. He made the first wooden kite with wood and silk. It’s said that the kite could fly for one day. Later, Lu Ban improved it with bamboo, making it stay in the air for three days.
Weifang produces over 70% of the world’s kites. An old grandpa told us there are four steps to make a kite: framing (扎框架), gluing, painting, and flying. Each step must be done very carefully. For example, the water temperature should be around 60°C when you glue the paper. Water hotter than that will change the colour of the paper.
What surprised me most was the new ideas in kite-making. People add colourful lights to the kites. At night, the kites shine brightly in the sky. This trip made me love kites even more—they’re not just toys, but a mix of history and creativity!

A.Laozi. B.Lu Ban. C.Mozi. D.Zhuangzi.
2.Which of the following did Lu Ban use to improve kites?
A.Wood. B.Silk. C.Paper. D.Bamboo.
3.How many steps are there to make a kite?
A.Three. B.Four. C.Five. D.Six.
4.When gluing the paper, what will happen if the water temperature is much hotter than 60°C?
A.The paper will dry soon. B.The frame will be broken.
C.The colour will be changed. D.The size of the kite will be small.
5.What does the writer think of kites after the trip?
A.They are mainly for kids to play with. B.They show both history and new ideas.
C.They look more beautiful with different colours. D.They are difficult to make with traditional steps.

Well, the turning point came one day! On one of my good days, I went to the playground, and spent about 10 minutes playing basketball before getting bored and going home. That was the moment. I found myself still enjoying something! After that, I decided to get out of bed and move more. I went to the playground and played basketball again the next day, and the next day, and so on. Every time, I stayed a little longer and went back home a little happier. Later, I joined a basketball team. This gave me a way to get back into society and make more friends. Finally, I pulled out of the depression. Sport gave me my life back.

But just as I walked on only a few steps, I realized that he had asked the way to my office building. However, I had no time to turn back and look for him. I had someone important to meet with.

Jessi Meeks says every day, her three kids get an hour where they get to do “whatever” they want. She calls it “whatever-makes-you happy hour” .
Meeks’ idea came naturally from one of her kids’ suggestions. “One afternoon, the kids were outside painting and my husband and I were trying to talk and carry on a conversation. My oldest son Cannon looked at me and asked, ‘Can I paint my hands?’ And I said, ‘Whatever makes you happy. You all just do it and be quiet so Mommy and Daddy can talk to each other.’ ” Meeks recalls. “And from then on, around that same time of the day, they would ask if they could do something and we’d be like ‘Sure, whatever makes you happy.’ ”
But Meeks also sets necessary boundaries (界限). “If they start hurting themselves or hurting each other, we step in.” she adds, “And we don’t let them watch TV. ”
Meeks believes the hour of free playtime has been beneficial for her kids. If they make a big mess, she thinks it’s a good chance to teach little ones the practice of tidying up. At the same time, it’s also a great way to allow time for them to explore and play the way they want.

(24-25九年级上·天津红桥·期中)Jerry is a world-famous mountain climber. He has climbed many high mountains in the world. Starting in 2015, he and his friends spent two years on an adventure (探险) in South America, covering 7,800 miles. He was even named Adventurer of the Year by a famous geography magazine in 2018.
Although Jerry had achieved (实现) great success, he didn’t feel fulfilled. He asked himself, “Is it enough to climb the highest mountains? Am I doing something helpful? How can I turn my adventures into something that can help the world?”
Jerry learned that scientists need plants, rocks and water samples (样本) from places far away to do research. But scientists can’t get there themselves as such places are hard to reach—only the bravest adventurers can make it. Jerry thought he could do something to help. He then came up with an idea. He set up a team of top adventurers to collect samples for scientists. By studying the samples, scientists could know more about the earth and find ways to protect it.
Recently Jerry and his adventurer friends have discovered a special plant life on Mount Qomolangma. The samples they brought back have helped scientists learn how plants live in extreme (极端的) conditions.
For Jerry, this kind of adventure is most satisfying. “Such adventures have made us see life in a different way. Now, being the best climber isn’t important for me. I quietly went to my daughter’s room. “Honey, I am so sorry,” I said, “Are these the flowers you picked for me?” She said, “I found them by the tree. I picked them because they’re pretty like you. That idea of creating My DE+ put Zach on a journey that would find him learning the finer points of UX design, working with coding platforms (编程平台), and importantly, getting the confidence and trust of the teachers at the school.
“I started with Figma, just prototyping (制作原型) what the app would look like. I met with my head teacher at school and showed him the design. He was like, ‘Whoa, that looks very cool! How do we get this in our school?’ And I don’t think he realized it was just a design. So now I had to get to work building the app,” Zach said.
At first, Zach was considering teaching himself how to code. That’s when he discovered Adalo. Zach was able to create a working prototype. The next question was how to get it on the phones of 500 students in the school. Zach used a business platform called Make. And he changed it and sent everyone a message. “I met with every grade at the school and showed them how to get the app. After a month, I had 500 users on the app, which is almost my whole school,” Zach explained.
Zach has now been talking with other heads of technology of schools in New York City and adding all kinds of new functions (功能) like community pages. “In terms of what comes next, I really hope my app can be used in other schools. Passage 2
(25-26九年级上·天津·期中)At a restaurant, a beetle suddenly flew in through the door and fell upon a woman’s jacket. The woman let out a scream. She started jumping and tried to shake the beetle off her jacket. Her reaction (反应) caught others’ eyes and made them all nervous. The woman finally drove the beetle away from her jacket, but it flew to rest on another woman’s dress.
Like the first woman, the second woman screamed and shook her dress.
Then the beetle fell upon a boy’s sweater. But the boy reacted differently. He stood still, kept quiet, and carefully looked at the beetle. He then slowly picked up a piece of paper from a table. When he thought that the time was right for action, he quickly covered the beetle with the paper, caught it, and threw it out of the restaurant.
I was having my lunch at the restaurant. A few thoughts came to my mind after I saw it all. The three people reacted differently to the beetle and had different results in the end. The two women just tried to shake the beetle off their clothes. They didn’t think about driving it away from the restaurant, so it kept causing problems for others. The boy did something different and solved the problem once and for all. I didn’t mean that the two women did something wrong. I just meant that the boy did better.
1.The first woman probably felt ________ when seeing the beetle.
A.angry B.afraid C.bored D.shy
2.Which is the right order of the following things?
① The boy stood still.

A.the restaurant
B.the flying beetle
C.how the cook made lunches
D.how the three people reacted to the beetle
4.What do the underlined words “once and for all” in Paragraph 3 probably mean?
A.Completely. B.Carelessly. C.Nearly. D.Hardly.
5.The writer thought that the two women ________.
A.did something helpful B.should care more about others
C.saved the situation at the restaurant D.thought well before taking action
【答案】1.B 2.C 3.D 4.A 5.B
【导语】本文主要讲述了一个甲虫飞进餐厅后,三位不同的人对其做出了不同反应,最终结果也不同。
1.推理判断题。根据“The woman let out a scream. She started jumping and tried to shake the beetle off her jacket.”可知,第一个女人看到甲虫时尖叫起来,开始跳起来,试图把甲虫从她的外套上抖下来,由此可推测她很害怕。故选B。
2.细节理解题。根据“He stood still, kept quiet, and carefully looked at the beetle. He then slowly picked up a piece of paper from a table. When he thought that the time was right for action, he quickly covered the beetle with the paper, caught it, and threw it out of the restaurant.”可知男孩先是站着不动,然后仔细观察甲虫,接着拿起一张纸,最后抓住了甲虫。所以正确的顺序是①④③②。故选C。
3.细节理解题。根据“A few thoughts came to my mind after I saw it all. The three people reacted differently to the beetle and had different results in the end.”可知,作者在看到这三个人对甲虫的不同反应后,脑海中浮现出一些想法。故选D。
4.词句猜测题。根据“The boy did something different and solved the problem once and for all.”可知,男孩做了不同的事情,彻底解决了问题,因此“once and for all”的意思是“彻底地,完全地”,与“Completely”意思相近。故选A。
5.推理判断题。根据“I didn’t mean that the two women did something wrong. I just meant that the boy did better.”以及“They didn’t think about driving it away from the restaurant, so it kept causing problems for others.”

1.Who first invented the earliest kite according to the passage?
A.Laozi. B.Lu Ban. C.Mozi.
