Hans Christian Andersen was born on April 2, 1805, in Odense, Denmark, into deep poverty. His father, a shoemaker, filled his imagination with folk tales (故事) and built him a toy theater; his mother was a washerwoman. When Andersen was eleven, his father died, leaving the boy largely on his own. In 1819, the clumsy teenager traveled alone to Copenhagen, determined to become famous as an actor, singer, or dancer. He tried out at the Royal Danish Theatre but was turned down.
Despite this setback, Andersen’s raw talent drew the attention of Jonas Collin, a theatre director who became his lifelong benefactor (赞助人). Collin arranged for him to attend grammar school, first in Slagelse and later in Helsingor. This proved a tough experience, as the teenage Andersen was placed among much younger students and struggled with a tough headmaster. Yet he didn’t give up, and in 1828 he entered the University of Copenhagen, having already started publishing poetry and literature.
Andersen practically invented the writing of eventyr — the adventure fairy tale, or fantastic tale — breaking sharply with the writing tradition of his time. Unlike the Brothers Grimm, who collected folk tales, Andersen wrote original stories in an everyday, spoken style, as if addressing a child. This was revolutionary: no serious writer had previously used such everyday language for children. His first tales — including “The Tinder Box”, “Thumbelina”, and “The Princess and the Pea” — appeared in 1835. Over four decades, he produced about 156 tales that have been translated into over 125 languages, making him one of the most translated authors in history.
Andersen’s talent lies in his style, humor, and direct address to the reader. He gave voices to ordinary objects — toys, flowers, household items — making them unforgettable protagonists (主人公). Beneath their seemingly simple surface, his tales talk about society’s problems, make fun of the world, and show emotional depth. This unique blend allows his stories to appeal to and challenge readers of all ages, securing his timeless legacy.
4. What did Andersen aim to become at fourteen?
A. A theatre director. B. A performer on the stage.
C. A shoemaker like his father. D. A famous writer of fairy tales.
5. What can we infer about Andersen’s school years?
A. He was warmly welcomed by younger classmates.
B. His headmaster offered him special literary guidance.
C. He went through hardship but eventually overcame it.
D. His raw talent was discovered through formal education.
6. How did Andersen’s tales differ from the Brothers Grimm’s?
A. They were based on Danish folk tales.
B. They were longer and more difficult to understand.
C. They were based on the author’s own experiences.
D. They were original stories in a conversational style.
7. Why do Andersen’s tales appeal to readers of all ages?
A. They are humorous and fantastic.
B. They have deeper meanings under a simple surface.
C. They were written separately for children and adults.
D. They were translated into many languages.
B 5. C 6. D 7. B
根据第一段“In 1819, the clumsy teenager traveled alone to Copenhagen, determined to become famous as an actor, singer, or dancer.(在1819年,这个笨拙的少年独自前往哥本哈根,决心成为著名的演员、歌手或舞者。)”
根据第二段“This proved a tough experience, as the teenage Andersen was placed among much younger students and struggled with a tough headmaster. Yet he didn’t give up, and in 1828 he entered the University of Copenhagen, having already started publishing poetry and literature.( 这段求学经历十分艰难,少年安徒生被安排和年龄小很多的学生一起上课,还要应付一位严厉的校长。但他没有放弃,并在 1828 年考入哥本哈根大学,彼时他已经开始发表诗歌与文学作品。)”可推断,他的求学之路虽历经艰难,但他最终克服了困难并有所成就。
【6题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段“Unlike the Brothers Grimm, who collected folk tales, Andersen wrote original stories in an everyday, spoken style, as if addressing a child.(格林兄弟搜集民间故事,和他们不同,安徒生以日常口语化的风格创作原创故事,仿佛在对着一个孩子娓娓讲述。)”
根据最后一段“Beneath their seemingly simple surface, his tales talk about society’s problems, make fun of the world, and show emotional depth. This unique blend allows his stories to appeal to and challenge readers of all ages, securing his timeless legacy.(在看似浅显的表层之下,他的童话探讨社会问题、调侃世间百态,并且饱含深厚的情感。这种独特的融合让他的故事既能吸引各个年龄段的读者,又引人深思,成就了他永恒的文学遗产。)”可知,安徒生童话能吸引各个年龄段读者是因为简单表层之下蕴含更深层含义。
C
Nowadays, the world is slowly becoming a high-tech society and we are now surrounded by technology. Facebook and Twitter are innovative tools; text messaging is still a somewhat existing phenomenon and even e-mail is only a flashing spot on the screen when compared with our long history of snail mail. Now we adopt these tools to the point of essentialness, and only rarely consider how we are more fundamentally affected by them.
Social media, texting and e-mail all make it much easier to communicate, gather and pass information, but they also present some dangers. By removing any real human engagement, they enable us to develop our abnormal self-love without the risk of disapproval or criticism. To use a theatrical metaphor (隐喻), these new forms of communication provide a stage on which we can each create our own characters, hidden behind a fourth wall of tweets, status updates and texts. This unreal state of unconcern can become addictive as we separate ourselves a safe distance from the cruelty of our fleshly lives, where we are imperfect, powerless and insignificant. In essence, we have been provided not only the means to be more free, but also to become new, to create and project a more perfect self to the world. As we become more reliant on these tools, they become more a part of our daily routine, and so we become more restricted in this fantasy.
So it is that we live in a cold era, where names and faces represent two different levels of closeness, where working relationships occur only through the magic of email and where love can start or end by text message. An environment such as this reduces interpersonal relationships to mere digital exchanges.
Would a celebrity have been so daring to do something dishonorable if he had had to do it in person? Doubtful. It seems he might have been lost in a fantasy world that ultimately convinced himself into believing the digital self could obey different rules and regulations, as if he could continually push the limits of what’s acceptable without facing the consequences of “real life”.
8. What can we know about new communication tools?
A. Replacing traditional letters. B. Helping us to hide our faults.
C. Posing more dangers than good. D. Destroying our life totally.
9. What is the potential threat caused by the novel communication tools?
A. Leading to false mental perception. B. Making us rely more on high-tech media.
C. Sheltering us from virtual life. D. Removing face-to-face interaction.
10. What can be inferred from the last two paragraphs?
A. The digital self need not take responsibility. B. Love can be better conveyed by text message.
C. The digital world is a recipe for pushing limits. D. Technologies have changed our relationships.
11. Which of the following is a suitable title for the text?
A. The Future of Social Media B. Interpersonal Skills on the Net
C. Cost of Falling into Digital Life D. Addiction to the Virtual World
B 9. A 10. D 11. C
根据第二段中“By removing any real human engagement, they enable us to develop our abnormal self-love without the risk of disapproval or criticism. To use a theatrical metaphor (隐喻) , these new forms of communication provide a stage on which we can each create our own characters, hidden behind a fourth wall of tweets, status updates and texts. This unreal state of unconcern can become addictive as we separate ourselves a safe distance from the cruelty of our fleshly lives, where we are imperfect, powerless and insignificant. In essence, we have been provided not only the means to be more free, but also to become new, to create and project a more perfect self to the world.
根据第二段中“This unreal state of unconcern can become addictive as we separate ourselves a safe distance from the cruelty of our fleshly lives, where we are imperfect, powerless and insignificant. (当我们与现实生活的残酷——在那里我们是不完美的、无力的、渺小的——保持一个安全距离时,这种不真实的超然状态会变得令人上瘾)”及“As we become more reliant on these tools, they become more a part of our daily routine, and so we become more restricted in this fantasy. (随着我们越来越依赖这些工具,它们也日益成为我们日常生活的一部分,因此我们在这幻想中也就越发受到束缚)”可知,这类新型通讯工具的潜在威胁是会让人产生错误的心理认知。
【10题详解】
推理判断题。根据倒数第二段中“So it is that we live in a cold era, where names and faces represent two different levels of closeness, where working relationships occur only through the magic of email and where love can start or end by text message. An environment such as this reduces interpersonal relationships to mere digital exchanges. (于是,我们就生活在一个冰冷的时代:名字与面孔代表着两种截然不同的亲近程度,工作往来只能借助电子邮件实现,爱情可以通过短信开启,也可以经由短信终结。这样一种环境,把人际交往简化成纯粹的数字交互)”可知,科技已经彻底改变了我们的人际关系模式。
【11题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文,结合第一段中“Now we adopt these tools to the point of essentialness, and only rarely consider how we are more fundamentally affected by them. (如今,我们使用这些工具已到了不可或缺的地步,却很少去思考它们对我们产生了怎样更为根本的影响)”可知,全文围绕新型通讯工具带来的便利背后,隐藏的对个人表达、人际关系的隐性伤害展开论述,核心是探讨沉迷数字生活需要付出的代价,C选项“陷入数字生活的代价”最贴合全文主旨,适合作为文章的标题。
D
A new study has found ozone (臭氧) pollutants in Earth’s lower atmosphere increased across the Northern Hemisphere over the past 20 years.
Ozone is a form of oxygen. In Earth’s upper atmosphere, it acts as a barrier to block harmful radiation from the sun. But closer to Earth’s surface, ozone is a common pollutant. At ground level, high levels of ozone can harm people’s lungs and damage plants.
A European research programme collected the data. The programme equips commercial aircraft with instruments to measure atmospheric conditions during flight.
The researchers used ozone observations from 60,000 flights worldwide. They centred on five areas of the Northern Hemisphere — the northeastern US, Germany, India, Southeast Asia and Northeast China and Korea. The Northern Hemisphere was studied because it contains a large percentage of the human population affected by air quality. The researchers did, however, report lower ground-level ozone in some areas, including North America and Europe. But they said those results were canceled out by increases in ozone higher up in the atmosphere.
Audrey Gaudel, the lead writer of the study, said the data collected by international aircraft was valuable in creating a clear picture of ozone levels over the Northern Hemisphere over long periods.
To explore what was causing the changes, the scientists examined levels of nitrogen oxides They are considered to be atmospheric pollutants often resulting from human activities.
The researchers used the aircraft data to create models to estimate how nitrogen oxide releases affected atmospheric conditions. The team said it found some of the sharpest increases in areas where ozone levels were once the lowest. These included Malaysia and Indonesia, as well as other parts of Southeast Asia, and India. Those areas had very low ozone values between 1994 and 2004, but very high levels in recent years, between 2011 and 2016.
Next, Gaudel said her team plans to take a closer look at ozone levels in the tropics (热带). She thinks Africa will be one area to watch as a possible “hot spot” of increasing pollutive releases in coming years.
12. How is the text mainly developed?
A. By giving examples and arguing. B. By raising questions and solving them.
C. By following time order and space order. D. By presenting facts and research results.
13. What do we know about the ozone changes in some areas?
A. Europe’s low-level ozone loss was balanced out by its upper-air ozone rise.
B. Ozone rose both near-ground and higher in North America.
C. India and Malaysia had top ozone levels from 1994 to 2004.
D. All Northern Hemisphere nations saw steady ozone growth.
14. What is Gaudel’s attitude towards the data got by aircraft?
A. Doubtful. B. Objective. C. Critical. D. Favourable.
15. What can we infer about the team’s future research?
A. It will focus on ozone in the tropics. B. It will stop studying nitrogen oxides.
C. It will prove Africa has no air pollution. D. It will cover all countries in Northern Hemisphere.
D 13. A 14. D 15. A

____19____
When we are young, we are often told to wait for the right opportunity to appear. However, if we wait, we may spend more time waiting instead of working towards our goals.
