You called me your child, and despite a number of chewed shoes and a couple of murdered pillows, I became your best friend. Whenever I was “bad”, you’d shake your finger at me and ask “How could you?”—but then you rolled me over for a belly (腹部) rub. I remember those nights of rubbing you in bed and listening to your secret dreams, and I believed that life could not be any more perfect. Gradually, you began spending more time at work and on your career, and more time searching for a human mate. She, now your wife, is not a “dog person”—still I welcomed her into our home, tried to show her affection, and obeyed her. I was happy because you were happy. Then the human babies came along and I shared your excitement. I was fascinated by the pinkness, how they smelled, and I wanted to mother them, too. Only she and you worried that I might hurt them, and I spent most of my time in another room. There had been a time, when others asked you if you had a dog, that you produced a photo of me from your wallet and told them stories about me. These past few years, you just answered “yes” and changed the subject. I had gone from being “your dog” to “just a dog”. Now, you have a new career opportunity in another city, and you and they will be moving to another apartment that does not allow pets. You’ve made the right decision for your “family”, but there was a time when I was your only family. People in the animal shelter are attentive to me, but I lost my appetite. At first whenever anyone passed, I rushed to the front, hoping it was you—that this was all a bad dream or I hoped it would at least be someone who cared, anyone who might save me. 1.How did the dog’s owner treat the puppy when it was at a younger age? The puppy poses a serious danger to the health and well-being of babies. C. The couple were concerned that the babies would be in danger. D. The master envied the natural affection between the babies and the puppy. 3.What can we infer from the last 3 paragraphs? A. It was hard for the puppy to accept the fact that it was ignored. B. It’s very likely that you’ll want to have volunteers to help with the organization’s activities. To do so, it should help to understand why people undertake volunteer work and what keeps their interest in the work. Let’s begin with the question of why people volunteer. Researchers have identified several factors that motivate people to get involved. For example, people volunteer to express personal values related to unselfishness, to expand their range of experiences, and to strengthen social relationships. If volunteer positions do not meet these needs, people may not wish to participate. To select volunteers, you may need to understand the motivations of the people you wish to attract. People also volunteer because they are required to do so. To increase levels of community service, some schools have launched compulsory volunteer programs. Unfortunately, these programs can shift people’s wish of participation from an internal factor (e.g. “I volunteer because it’s important to me”) to an external factor (e.g. “I volunteer because I’m required to do so”). When that happens, people become less likely to volunteer in the future. People must be sensitive to this possibility when they make volunteer activities a must. Once people begin to volunteer, what leads them to remain in their positions over time? To answer this question, researchers have conducted follow-up studies in which they track volunteers over time. For instance, one study followed 238 volunteers in Florida over a year. One of the most important factors that influenced their satisfaction as volunteers was the amount of suffering they experienced in their volunteer positions. Although this result may not surprise you, it leads to important practical advice. The researchers note that attention should be given to “training methods that would prepare volunteers for troublesome situations or provide them with strategies for coping with the problem they do experience”. Another study of 302 volunteers at hospitals in Chicago focused on individual differences in the degree to which people view “volunteer” as an important social role. It was assumed that those people for whom the role of volunteer was most part of their personal identity would also be most likely to continue volunteer work. Participants indicated the degree to which the social role mattered by responding to statements such as “Volunteering in Hospital is an important part of who I am.” Consistent with the researchers’ expectations, they found a positive correlation(正相关) between the strength of role identity and the length of time people continued to volunteer. These results, once again, lead to concrete advice: “Once an individual begins volunteering, continued efforts might focus on developing a volunteer role identity....Items like T-shirts that allow volunteers to be recognized publicly for their contributions can help strengthen role identity”. 1.People volunteer mainly out of __________. A. academic requirements B. social expectations C. financial rewards D. internal needs 2.What can we learn from the Florida study? A. Follow-up studies should last for one year. B. Volunteers should get mentally prepared. C. Strategy training is a must in research. D. Volunteers are provided with concrete advice. 3.What is most likely to motivate volunteers to continue their work? A. Individual differences in role identity. B. Publicly identifiable volunteer T-shirts. C. Role identity as a volunteer. D. Practical advice from researchers. 4.What is the best title of the passage? A. How to Get People to Volunteer B. Susan Goldin-Meadow of the University of Chicago holds that people are doing something different when they use gestures with speech, which she sums up in the title of her new book, “Thinking with Your Hands”. Basically, everyone gestures, not just Italians. Experimental subjects, told after a research session that they were being watched for gestures, apologise for not having made any — but were doing so the entire time. People born blind gesture when they speak, including to each other. All this suggests that, to some extent, thinking is not all done in your head. The gesture under discussion here is mostly the “co-speech” kind. It is much more abstract than mime (默剧) . Nor are these “typical” gestures like a thumbs-up or a finger over the lips for “Silence!” Like words, those are fixed within cultures (but vary between them). Instead, gestures that accompany speech are a second channel of information. Subjects watch a film in which a cat runs but are told to lie and say it jumped. They do so in words — while their hands make a running motion. Practical advice is also included in the book. Teachers are encouraged both to use gestures themselves and to observe those their students make. Therapists (治疗师) can be trained to look out for gestures hinting that patients are thinking something they are not yet ready to say. Children with language delays caused by brain injuries at or around birth, but who nonetheless gesture as much as their peers, are likely to catch up orally by the age of about 30 months. Those who gesture less are more likely to need intensive early intervention. Children with Down’s syndrome may express themselves better when taught to use a mix of gesture and speech rather than speech alone. No one who reads this book could ever again think that gesturing shows only a lack of control. It is about thinking and communication, and is an effective aid to both. 1.Why is the old joke about Italians mentioned in the passage? A. To introduce the topic of gestures’ roles in thinking and communication. B. To explain why the hands are so important for Italians in self-expression. C. To show the author’s enthusiasm for old jokes about national stereotypes. D. To confirm that Italians are more talkative and emotional than other people. 2.Which of the following statements best describes the “gestures” discussed in the book? A. They are as concrete as mime and can stand alone to express ideas. B. They are similar to mime and mainly used to show silent emotions. C. They are like a thumbs-up bearing the same meaning across all cultures. D. They are abstract, tied to speech, and different from fixed cultural signs. 3.In what ways can gestures be applied to practice according to the passage? A. Instructing caregivers to replace speech with gestures for children with language delays. B. Guiding educators to adjust their gestures in teaching based on students’ gestural signals. C. Enabling therapists to master techniques in interpreting patients’ unspoken thoughts via gestures. D. Advising individuals to increase gesturing frequency to enhance emotional expression in speech. 4.The underlined word “intervention” (Line 6, Paragraph 5) is closest in meaning to____________. A. strict rules made to correct bad behavior B. daily care given to support children’s growth C. simple advice offered to guide language learning D. professional help provided to improve a condition Passage 3 (25-26高一上·上海第四中学·期中)English is a fun language, and even though it’s considered an accessible and relatively easy one to learn, with 750,000 words and spelling that can throw off even the most skilled learner, learning English fast can seem impossible. Take the following tips on how to learn English faster as your starting point and you’ll master this wonderful language in no time! TIP 1 ______ Classic literature, paperbacks, newspapers, websites, emails, your social media feed: if it’s in English, read it. Why? Well, this content will be full of juicy new vocabulary, as well as a fair amount you already know. This helps you improve quickly, as repeated exposure to learned vocabulary gives you new examples in context, therefore reinforcing those words in your mind. On the other hand, learning new words and expressions is essential to building your vocabulary, particularly in a language like English with so many words! TIP 2 ACTIVELY TAKE NOTE OF NEW VOCABULARY This tip is a classic one for good reason. It works! When learning, we often enjoy a new word or phrase so much that forgetting it seems impossible. But trust us, not everything sticks the first time. To fight this, get into the habit of carrying around a notebook. Whenever you hear or read a new word or expression, write it down in context: that is, in a sentence and with its meaning noted. This saves you time as you won’t return to that word and ask yourself: “What did that word/expression mean again?” TIP 3 TALK WITH REAL LIVE HUMANS What is a language for if not to communicate? It’s true that speaking a language helps it stick in your head far better than only reading or writing it. Just think of how many times you’ve heard people say that they “understand, but can’t speak English” A lot of would-be English speakers have turned talking into a huge obstacle that only serves to psyche them out. Don’t be like that. Seek out native speakers for an informal language exchange, enroll in a course, or take classes online. TIP 4 SUBSCRIBE TO PODCASTS (IN ENGLISH) Like humor? Politics? Blogging? Cooking? With topics covering every interest possible, there are English-speaking podcasts out there for you. Subscribe to a few and listen or watch while going to school or work. At first, you might find the native accents difficult, but stick with it and you’ll soon start to understand what you hear (as well as learning lots of new vocabulary from a native speaker!) 1.Which of the following is the best heading for TIP 1? A. START WITH READING WHAT YOU REALLY NEED B. USE CONTEXTUAL CLUES TO BUILD YOUR VOCABULARY C. READ ALL THE PRINTED MATERIALS YOU CAN BUY D. READ EVERYTHING YOU CAN GET YOUR HANDS ON 2.The phrase “psyche them out” is closest in meaning to ______ A. make them discouraged B. slow down their progress C. relieve their stress D. affect their fluency 3.Which of the following strategies is NOT suggested by the author? A. Learning words through repeated exposure in different contexts. B. Using technology to instantly translate any unknown word. C. Building vocabulary by reading things you enjoy. D. Overcoming the fear of speaking by practicing with natives. Passage 4 Q: How can we train our brain like a muscle? A: The human brain isn’t actually a muscle, as a lot of people think, but nevertheless, we still need to give it exercise to keep it healthy. While you can go to the gym to work out the muscles in your body, the equivalent for the brain is training and stimulating something called brain plasticity. Verywellmind.com says that plasticity refers to the brain’s adaptability or ability to change. And it's definitely worth working to improve it too, as it can give cognitive performance a real boost. Q: Are you saying improving brain plasticity makes you smarter? A: Essentially, when we learn something new, the brain forges new connections between its neurons. With repeated practice, those connections grow stronger and faster, making our brain more efficient and boosting our performance. But still, it’s not quite as simple as saying that it will make you smarter. Even with real dedication, you won’t suddenly become the next Einstein. It’s really more about enhancing cognitive abilities like memory, language skills, or emotional intelligence. Q: What kind of exercises can I do to improve those then? A: Well, a study published in Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience in 2023 suggested that learning a new language can lead to positive changes in the brain. That’s because it increases the density of grey matter in certain regions, which in turn improves performance in tasks like problem solving and decision making. In the same way, learning music has been linked to better verbal memory, pronunciation skills in a new language, reading ability, and executive functions. If diving into languages or music isn’t your thing, research has shown that regular sudoku puzzles(数独) can also sharpen cognitive functions, especially for people aged between 50 and 93. Of course, maintaining an active lifestyle is key to keeping your brain in top shape, too. Q: Diets play a crucial role in brain health. ________? Well, regular listeners may remember that we talked about how certain foods can improve brain performance in a previous episode of Do You Really Know? Experts say that diet plays a crucial role in brain health. Certain foods help protect against age-related cognitive decline. These include seafood, certain dairy products, and fruit, which are rich in nutrients like zinc, selenium and magnesium, or potassium and copper. And you need to keep your sugar consumption under control too. Excessive sugar can lead to brain inflammation in the long run, making you more easily irritated due to reactive hypoglycemia(低血糖症). In short, steer clear of non-nutritious foods that leave your brain feeling foggy and low on energy. There you have it. 1.According to the article, what benefit does learning a new language offer? A. Enhancing your emotional management. B. Increasing your grey matter density. C. Making you the next Einstein overnight. D. Keeping an active lifestyle. 2.Which of the following might be the best to fill in ________? A. How so? B. So What? C. What’s the point? D. What’s nutritionists’ opinion? 3.Tom, a 65-year-old retired teacher, intends to maintain and enhance his cognitive abilities, which of the following options is not consistent with the passage’s recommendations for him? A. Learning Latin and practicing Sudoku regularly. B. Enrolling in a cello course in the Senior Community. C. Consuming more seafood than red meat every day. D. Engaging in low-intensity Taiji exercise 3 times a week. Situated on a block where several buses stopped, it served the people who had a few minutes to wait for their bus. Every afternoon around four o'clock, a group of schoolchildren would burst into the shop, and business would come to a stop. Adults would glance in, see the crowd and pass on. But I didn’t mind if the children waited for their bus inside. Sometimes I would hand out a bus fare when a ticket went missing — always repaid the next day. On snowy days I would give away some doughnuts. I would lock the door at closing time, and we waited in the warm shop until their bus finally arrived. I enjoyed my young friends, but it never occurred to me that I played an important role in their lives — until one afternoon when a man came and asked if I was the girl working on weekdays around four o'clock. He identified himself as the father of two of my favorites. “I want you to know I appreciate what you do for my children. I worry about them taking two buses to get home. It means a lot that they can wait here and you keep an eye on them. When they are with the doughnut lady, I know they are safe.” I told him it wasn’t a big deal, and that I enjoyed the kids. So I was the Doughnut Lady. I not only received a title, but became a landmark. Now I think about all the people who keep an eye on my own children. They become, well, Doughnut Ladies. Like the men at the skating rink (滑冰场) who let my boys ring home; Or the bus driver who drove my daughter to her stop at the end of the route at night but wouldn’t leave until I arrived to pick her up; Or that nice police officer who took pity on my boys walking home in the rain when I was at work — even though the phone rang all the next day with calls from curious neighbors. “Was that a police car I saw at your house last night?” That wasn’t a police car. That was a Doughnut Lady. 1.According to the passage, the author sometimes _______. A. called the children’s parents to pick them up B. provided schoolchildren with warm shelters C. did business with the children’s help D. sold bus tickets to the children 2.By saying “... it wasn’t a big deal,” (in paragraph 4) the author meant that _______. A. she hadn’t found it hard to get along with the children B. she hadn’t made a lot of money from the children C. she hadn’t spent plenty of time with the children D. she hadn’t done anything very significant 3.According to the author, those who _______ are Doughnut Ladies. A. are always ready to help others B. provide free doughnuts for the poor C. work in the doughnut store for a while D. are curious about the happenings around 4.The passage suggests that _______. According to a recent scientific study, people who do a very strenuous workout are as likely to die as people who do no exercise at all. Scientists in Denmark have been studying over 1,000 joggers and non-joggers for 12 years. The death rates from the sample group indicate that people who jog at a moderate pace two or three times a week for less than two and a half hours in total are least likely to die. The best speed to jog at was found to be about 5 miles per hour. The research suggests that people who jog more than three times a week or at higher speeds of over 7 mph die at the same rate as non-joggers. The scientists think that this is because strenuous exercise causes structural changes to the heart and arteries(动脉). Over time, this can cause serious injuries. Peter Schnohr, a researcher in Copenhagen, said, “If your goal is to decrease risk of death and improve life expectancy, jogging a few times a week at a moderate pace is a good strategy. Anything more is just unnecessary, and it may be harmful.” The implications of this are that moderate forms of exercise such as tai chi, yoga and brisk walking may be better for us than “iron man” events, triathlons and long-distance running and cycling. According to Jacob Louis Marott, another researcher involved in the study, “You don't actually have to do that much to have a good impact on your health. And perhaps you shouldn't actually do too much.” 1.The underlined word “strenuous” in Paragraph 1 is closest in meaning to “________”. A. hard B. regular C. practical D. little 2.The author presents some figures in Paragraph 2 to ________. A. suggest giving up jogging B. show risks of doing sports C. provide supportive evidence D. introduce the research process 3.According to the scientists, why is too much exercise harmful? A. It may injure the heart and arteries. B. It can make the body tired out. C. It will bring much pressure. D. It consumes too much energy. 4.What can be inferred from the text? A. Jogging is the best exercise. B. More exercise means a healthier life. C. Marathons runners are least likely to die. D. Proper exercise contributes to good health. 主题语境03 人与自我-生活与学习 Passage 1 (25-26高一上·上海黄浦区比乐中学·期中)A Guide to the University Food The TWU Cafeteria is open 7a.m.to 8p.m..It serves snacks, drinks, ice cream bars and meals. You can pay with cash or your ID cards. You can add meal money to your ID cards at the Front Desk.Even if you do not buy your food in the cafeteria, you can use the tables to eat your lunch,to have meetings and to study. But we just-received his teacher’s summer-reading assignment, which requires him to read six books and write three book reports. Do I really need to force him to do this work over the summer? Won’t it only make him hate reading all the more? Kristal Dear Kristal, You’re right that your son needs a break this summer, but taking a break doesn’t mean ignoring academic skills altogether. Summer reading is of great importance to reduce the gap between students who struggle and those who succeed. It will help him to retain the skills that he had gained during the school year. It would be great if you can make reading more enjoyable, and more routine, for him. Here are some tips that may help. Help him find books that he’s more likely to take pleasure in. If the school assigned a summer-reading list, look over it with your son to see which ones may most interest him, and let him choose a couple of books. Help your son plan how to get through the books he has chosen by establishing a routine. He should choose for himself a particular time of day during which he’ll do his reading. What’s important is consistency: Reading will become more of a habit and less of a battle if he has a regular time when he expects to be doing it. Remember: frequency is the key. Fifteen to twenty minutes of daily reading is better than, say, two hours every Sunday. He might write down a sentence-long summary and a reaction every day or two after completing his reading so that writing a book report will be easier once he has finished reading a book. Your goal is to make reading part of his life in such a way that it won’t require a daily battle. By giving him agency and helping him to create a routine, you’ll make this summer more relaxing for the both of you. Yours Abby 1.Abby is most probably ________. A. a third grader B. a parent C. an editor D. a school teacher 2.Kristal wrote the letter because she didn’t know ________. A. how to help her son write book reports B. how to motivate her son to study harder C. how to help her son have a fulfilling summer vacation D. whether she should force her son to read at the risk of making him hate the activity all the more 3.The underlined word “retain” is closest in meaning to “________”. A. control B. forget C. select D. preserve 4.In Abby’s opinion, what should Kristal do to change her son’s attitude towards reading? ① Help him find books that interest him. ②Help him write down a complete summary every day. ③Help him establish a reading routine and develop good reading habits. ④Help him finish the reading reports to boost his confidence in reading. A. He entertained the puppy with jokes and gestures. B. He treated the puppy as if it were a family member. C. He disciplined the puppy when it made a mess. D. He kept the puppy at a distance for the chewed shoes. 2.Why was the puppy excluded from the room after the babies were born? A. The puppy was tempted by the babies’ pinkness and sweet smell. B. B. The master had a mixed feeling for the advancement in career. C. The puppy felt relieved for the master’s establishment of a new family. D. It was urgent for the master to give up the puppy and move to another city. 4.Which of the following could be the best title for the passage? A. A Good Heart to Lean on B. New Member of the Family C. The Words of an Abandoned Dog D. Animal Shelter: the Last Home for Puppies 【答案】1. B 2. C 3. A 4. 由第一段“When I was a puppy, I entertained you and made you laugh. You called me your child, and despite a number of chewed shoes and a couple of murdered pillows, I became your best friend. Whenever I was “bad”, you’d shake your finger at me and ask “How could you?”—but then you rolled me over for a belly 由第四段“Only she and you worried that I might hurt them, and I spent most of my time in another room.”可知,小狗的主人夫妇害怕他弄伤婴儿,所以整天把小狗关在另一间房间里。所以是因为这对夫妇担心孩子会有危险。故C选项正确。 (3)题解析: 推理判断题。由第三段“There had been a time, when others asked you if you had a dog, that you produced a photo of me from your wallet and told them stories about me. These past few years, you just answered “yes” and changed the subject. I had gone from being “your dog” to “just a dog”.” 由第三段“There had been a time, when others asked you if you had a dog, that you produced a photo of me from your wallet and told them stories about me. These past few years, you just answered “yes” and changed the subject. I had gone from being “your dog” to “just a dog”.”可知,曾几何时,人们问起你家里有没有宠物时,你总是毫不迟疑地从包里掏出我的照片,向他们娓娓道出我的轶事。可是,近几年有人问起同一个问题,你却只是冷冷地回答“是”,随即就转向别的话题。我已经从“你的狗儿”变成只是“一条狗”了。所以通过小狗主人态度的对比,我们能从倒数三段中推断出小狗很难接受自己被忽视的事实。故小题3的正确选项为A选项。 主题语境04 人与自我-生活与学习 (25-26高一上·上海建平中学·期中)Book creator With the book creator you can create a book containing wiki pages of your choice. How to Study Volunteer Behaviors C. How to Keep Volunteers’ Interest D. How to Organize Volunteer Activities 【答案】1. D 2. B 3. C 4. A. strict rules made to correct bad behavior B. daily care given to support children’s growth C. simple advice offered to guide language learning D. professional help provided to improve a condition 【答案】1. A 2. D 3. C 4. D 【解析】【导语】 本文是一篇说明文。文章主要讲述了手势在思维和交流中的重要作用及实际应用。 (1)题解析: 推理判断题。根据第一段中“It rests on a national stereotype (刻板印象): Italians are talkative and emotional, and all that arm-waving supposedly goes to prove it.(它基于一种民族刻板印象:意大利人健谈且情绪化,所有这些挥舞手臂的动作都被认为证明了这一点)”和第二段中“Susan Goldin-Meadow of the University of Chicago holds that people are doing something different when they use gestures with speech, which she sums up in the title of her new book, “Thinking with Your Hands”.(芝加哥大学的苏珊·戈尔丁-梅多认为,人们在用手势说话时所做的事情是不同的,她在她的新书《用手思考》的书名中总结了这一点)”可知,文章提到关于意大利人的老笑话是为了引出手势在思维和交流中的作用这一话题。故选A。 (2)题解析: 细节理解题。根据第四段中“The gesture under discussion here is mostly the “co-speech” kind. It is much more abstract than mime (默剧) . Nor are these “typical” gestures like a thumbs-up or a finger over the lips for “Silence!” Like words, those are fixed within cultures (but vary between them). Instead, gestures that accompany speech are a second channel of information.(这里讨论的手势大多是“伴随言语”的手势。它比默剧抽象得多。这些手势也不像竖起大拇指或手指放在嘴唇上表示“安静!”这样的“典型”手势。像单词一样,这些手势在文化中是固定的(但在不同文化之间有所不同)。相反,伴随言语的手势是信息的第二渠道)”可知,书中讨论的“手势”是抽象的言语相关,不同于固定的文化符号。故选D。 (3)题解析: 细节理解题。根据第五段中“Therapists (治疗师) can be trained to look out for gestures hinting that patients are thinking something they are not yet ready to say.(治疗师可以接受培训,留意那些暗示患者正在思考一些他们尚未准备好说出口的事情的手势)”可知,根据文章,手势可以应用于实践的方式是使治疗师能够掌握通过手势解读患者未说出口的想法的技巧。故选C。 (4)题解析: 词句猜测题。根据第五段中“Children with language delays caused by brain injuries at or around birth, but who nonetheless gesture as much as their peers, are likely to catch up orally by the age of about 30 months. Those who gesture less are more likely to need intensive early intervention.(出生时或出生前后因脑损伤导致语言发育迟缓的儿童,尽管如此,他们的手势与同龄人一样多,他们很可能在30个月大时在口语方面赶上同龄人。手势较少的儿童更有可能需要密集的早期intervention)”可知,此处“intervention”指的是为了改善某种状况而提供的专业帮助,即“专业帮助以改善状况”。故选D。 Passage 3 (25-26高一上·上海第四中学·期中)English is a fun language, and even though it’s considered an accessible and relatively easy one to learn, with 750,000 words and spelling that can throw off even the most skilled learner, learning English fast can seem impossible. 【答案】1. D 2. A 3. B 【解析】【导语】 本文是一篇应用文,文章给出了四条快速学英语的实用建议:大量阅读、主动记词、开口与真人交流、订阅播客,并强调兴趣与坚持并重。 (1)题解析: 主旨大意题。根据TIP 1段落“Classic literature, paperbacks, newspapers, websites, emails, your social media feed: if it's in English, read it. (经典文学、平装书、报纸、网站、邮件、你的社媒动态:只要是英文,就读。)”可知,核心就是“见什么读什么”。D项“READ EVERYTHING YOU CAN GET YOUR HANDS ON! (把你所能拿到的英文材料统统读一遍!)”准确概括。故选D项。 (2)题解析: 词句猜测题。根据TIP 3段落“A lot of would-be English speakers have turned talking into a huge obstacle that only serves to psyche them out. (许多英语学习者把开口说英语变成巨大障碍,这只会让他们psyche them out。)”可知,很多英语学习者遇到了障碍,这些障碍会让他们感到气馁,所以此处psyche them out意为“使胆怯/泄气”。A项“make them discouraged”最接近。故选A项。 (3)题解析: 细节理解题。原文第四段指出“Seek out native speakers for an informal language exchange, enroll in a course, or take classes online. (寻找母语者进行非正式语言交流,报名课程或上网课。)”鼓励与真人练习口语;第三段强调“Whenever you hear or read a new word or expression, write it down in context: that is, in a sentence and with its meaning noted. (每当你听到或读到一个新单词或表达时,把它放在语境中记下来:也就是写进一个句子,并标注它的含义。)”倡导主动记词;第二段“Classic literature, paperbacks, newspapers, websites, emails, your social media feed: if it's in English, read it. (经典文学、平装书、报纸、网站、邮件、你的社媒动态:只要是英文,就读。)”提倡大量阅读兴趣材料;全文均未提及“用技术即时翻译任何未知单词”,此做法与作者主张的主动积累词汇相悖。故选B项。 Passage 4 Q: How can we train our brain like a muscle? 【答案】1. B 2. A 3. A. taking responsibility is a virtue B. devotion co-exists with reward C. running a business requires skills D. acts of kindness are never too small 【答案】1. B 2. D 3. A 4. D 【解析】这是一篇记叙文,作者讲述了她在商店做兼职时,下午一群孩子总会进入商店等公交车,虽然这给她的生意带来了不便,但是她没有在意,善意的对待这些孩子,比如在这些孩子丢票时给他们钱买票,下雪天给他们一些甜甜圈。她的善意得到了他人的感谢,她的孩子也得到了他人的帮助。 (1)题解析: 细节理解题。根据“I would lock the door at closing time, and we waited in the warm shop until their bus finally arrived. Or that nice police officer who took pity on my boys walking home in the rain when I was at work — even though the phone rang all the next day with calls from curious neighbors. “Was that a police car I saw at your house last night?” That wasn’t a police car. That was a Doughnut Lady.可知有好心的警察在下雨时将她的孩子送回去了,而作者把这位好心的警察称为“甜甜圈女士”,说明在作者心中,帮助他人的人就是“甜甜圈女士”,故选A项。 (4)题解析: 推理判断题。文中作者充满善意地对待在她兼职的店里等车的孩子,她自己孩子也被善意地对待,全文的关键就是善意的行为,所以D项切题,故选D项。 主题语境02 人与社会-文学、艺术与体育 (25-26高一上·上海大学附属嘉定高级中学·期中)If you think that running marathons will help you live a long and healthy life, new research may come as a shock. 【答案】1. A 2. C 3. A 4. D 【解析】本文是一篇说明文。文章提出如果你认为跑马拉松会帮助你生活得健康长寿,新的研究可能会让你震惊,根据最近的一项科学研究,做一个非常艰苦的锻炼的人死亡的可能性是大于不锻炼的人。本文以此展开,主要介绍了运动对身体的影响。 (1)题解析: 词义猜测题。hard耗费体力的;regular有规律的;practical实际的;flexible灵活的。由第一段最后一句"According to a recent scientific study, people who do a very strenuous workout are as likely to die as people who do no exercise at all."可知,一点不做运动的人和非常艰苦锻炼的人都极有可能死亡,故应选A。 (2)题解析: 推理判断题。第二段所举的例子主要是为了证明第一段最后一句"According to a recent scientific study, people who do a very strenuous workout are as likely to die as people who do no exercise at all",故在第二段举一些数字主要是提供有力的证据,故应选C。 (3)题解析: 细节理解题。由第二段倒数第二句"The scientists think that this is because strenuous exercise causes structural changes to the heart and arteries(动脉)."可知,做过多的运动有害是因为它可能伤害心脏和动脉,故应选A。 (4)题解析: 推理判断题。根据第三段“If your goal is to decrease risk of death and improve life expectancy, jogging a few times a week at a moderate pace is a good strategy. Anything more is just unnecessary, and it may be harmful.”可知,做运动过多或过少都对身体有害,只有做适量的运动才对身体有益,故应选D。 主题语境03 人与自我-生活与学习 Passage 1 (25-26高一上·上海黄浦区比乐中学·期中)A Guide to the University Food The TWU Cafeteria is open 7a.m.to 8p.m..It serves snacks, drinks, ice cream bars and meals. A. ①② B. ①③ C. ②③ D. ②④ 【答案】1. C 2. D 3. D 4. B 【解析】【导语】 本文是一篇应用文,为两封书信往来。主要围绕Kristal写给Abby的信以及Abby的回信展开,探讨了关于孩子暑假阅读作业的问题及相应建议。 (1)题解析: 推理判断题。根据Abby的回信第一段中的“Summer reading is of great importance to reduce the gap between students who struggle and those who succeed. (暑期阅读对于缩小学习困难学生和成绩优异学生之间的差距具有重要意义。)”及后面的建议并结合书信专栏的常见设定可知,她不仅明确暑期阅读的重要性,还能给出专业且具体的引导建议。因此,Abby最可能是负责解答读者咨询的专栏“编辑”。故选C项。 (2)题解析: 细节理解题。根据Kristal书信中的“Do I really need to force him to do this work over the summer? Won’t it only make him hate reading all the more? (我真的需要强迫他在整个夏天做这项工作吗?这难道不会只会让他更加讨厌阅读吗?)”可知,她写信是因为不知道 “是否应该强迫儿子阅读,以免让他更讨厌阅读”。故选D项。 (3)题解析: 词句猜测题。根据划线词所在句和前一句“Summer reading is of great importance to reduce the gap between students who struggle and those who succeed. It will help him to retain the skills that he had gained during the school year. (暑期阅读对于缩小成绩不佳学生和成绩优异学生之间的差距至关重要。它将帮助学生retain在学年中获得的技能。)”可知,“retain”在此应为“保留;保持;巩固”之意,与“preserve”意思相近。故选D项。 (4)题解析: 细节理解题。根据Abby给出的建议,首先提到“Help him find books that he’s more likely to take pleasure in. (帮助他找到他更可能喜欢的书。)”,与选项①相符;其次提到“Help your son plan how to get through the books he has chosen by establishing a routine. (通过制定一个常规计划,帮助你的儿子规划如何读完他选的那些书。)”与选项③相符。而选项②“Help him write down a complete summary every day. (每天帮他写下一份完整的总结。)”表述错误,与“He might write down a sentence-long summary and a reaction every day or two after completing his reading so that writing a book report will be easier once he has finished reading a book. (他可以在完成阅读后的每隔一两天写下一句总结和感想,这样当他读完一本书后,写读书报告就会更容易些。)”不符;选项④“Help him finish the reading reports to boost his confidence in reading. (帮他完成阅读报告,以增强他在阅读方面的自信心。)”在文中并未提及。故选B项。 / 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
