Produced by a local Chinese animation studio, the movie retells the classic Chinese legend of the Eight Immortals (神仙). However, instead of showing them as powerful gods, the film presents the eight characters as ordinary people living in a small seaside town before they became immortals.
In the story, the group opens a Taoist (道教的) temple to make a living, but business is poor. To attract visitors, they decide to pretend to be the legendary Eight Immortals. Chinese animation (动画) has a history of more than 100 years. This special art form connects modern technology with Chinese traditional art techniques (技艺), such as paper-cutting, shadow puppet performances (皮影戏) and ink-wash painting. Films in this style often include many themes from Chinese art, literature and culture.
Pigsy Eats Watermelon from 1958 was the first paper-cut animation. In this creative short film, Zhu Bajie and the other characters come to life on screen. The bright colors and lively animation style made the film popular across China, and it quickly became a warm memory for many children and adults of that time.
Two years later, another important achievement came with the first ink-wash animated film, Baby Tadpoles Look for Their Mother. This short film was influenced by the famous artist Qi Baishi, and it looks exactly like a soft and beautiful traditional ink painting. The film was successful. It showed the quiet charm (魅力) of Chinese ink art to the whole world.
Chinese animated films also carry traditional Chinese culture. Ancient stories are a common theme, and the much-loved characters from the adventure novel Journey to the West often appear in animation. Havoc in Heaven from 1961 tells the story of the Monkey King, and is perhaps the most famous Chinese animated film. It mixes traditional Chinese painting techniques with the sound effects from Beijing opera.
Today, Chinese animators keep exploring new ways of film-making. Films like Monkey King: Hero is Back were made with advanced 3D animation software. With the help of the latest computer technology, such as artificial intelligence (AI), I believe film-makers will surely bring more heroes from classic Chinese stories into the 21st century.
29.Why was Pigsy Eats Watermelon from 1958 so popular at that time?
A.It told a new story about Monkey King’s life.
B.It was the first shadow puppet animation in China.
C.It used bright colors and a lively animation style.
D.It told a story of a famous traditional paper cutting.
30.What can we know from the text?
A.Baby Tadpoles Look for Their Mother was made with advanced 3D animation software.
B.Characters from Journey to the West hardly ever appear in Chinese animated films.
C.Havoc in Heaven mixes traditional painting techniques with Beijing opera sound effects.
D.Monkey King: Hero is Back was made in 1961 with Chinese traditional art techniques.
31.What is the main purpose of the text?
A.To explain how people use AI in making animated films.
B.To show different forms of traditional Chinese art.
C.To ask people to watch more Chinese animated films.
D.To introduce the development of Chinese animation.
32.What is the writer’s attitude (态度) towards Chinese animation?
A.Hopeful. B.Worried. C.Doubtful. D.Curious.

There is one mysterious painting in the world: The Lute Player by the Italian painter Caravaggio. It has three very similar versions, and most people cannot tell the differences between them.
To art experts, there has been agreement that the paintings held by Russia’s Hermitage Museum and France’s Wildenstein Collection were created by the artist, while the one at Britain’s Badminton House is a copy.
Artificial intelligence (AI) begged to differ. In September 2025, Swiss AI company Art Recognition said there’s an almost 86 percent chance that Badminton House’s painting is real, while Wildenstein’s one is likely a copy.
This case shows the new role that AI plays in authenticating (鉴定) art. In the past, it was up to human experts to decide ★ . They tell real artworks apart from copies using their deep knowledge of artists and modern technologies such as infrared imaging (红外成像).
Now, AI might serve as another cool tool in experts’ toolboxes. The technology can study small details (细节) in artworks. It then compares these details with real works by the same artist to find differences that experts and other scientific methods might miss.
However, many experts don’t fully trust AI for identifying (识别) real art. They pointed out that AI can give results without explaining how it reached them. Also, proper training on AI will require thousands of images, but few artists have produced that many works. Artists may also change their style suddenly, so AI that only looks for fixed patterns can easily make mistakes.
AI should be used together with other methods, not to give final answers. “I strongly believe that the future of art authentication lies in teamwork between AI and experts,” Art Recognition’s CEO Carina Popovici told ART news.
33.According to AI, in which country is the painting considered a copy?
A. B. C. D.
34.Which of the following can be put in the ★ ?
A.if a painting was real B.what to do with artworks
C.how to make use of technology D.that authenticating wasn’t necessary
35.What main question did Paragraph 6 answer?
A.What mistakes may AI make?
B.How is AI used in identifying art?
C.Why do some artists change their styles?
D.How many artworks are needed to train AI?
36.Which Chinese sentence might Popovici believe?
A.以人为本,智能向善 B.智能驱动,创新引领
C.跨界融合,人机协同 D.伦理先行,法治保障
37.What’s the writing purpose of this passage?
A.To explain the ideas behind AI.
B.To discuss the role of AI in art.
C.To argue AI’s influence over humans.
D.To present an AI problem-solving case.
