根据文章第一段中的“During times like these, some frustrated gardeners may wish their plants would just tell them what they need. A new Microsoft-partnered project in the UK is trying to see if that concept can be realized in the real world.”
根据文章第二段中的“Visitors can ask the AI-powered garden questions. The model could then respond with phrases like ‘I need a bit more water’ or ‘I could use a haircut’ depending on data captured in the soil.”
根据文章第三段中的“When the garden is completed, it will rely on a network of sensors throughout the garden measuring environmental factors like soil moisture and nutrient levels as well as wind and projected rainfall. All of that data is then sent to a specially designed AI model housed in a room at the back of the garden.”
根据文章最后一段中的“‘I am excited to see how AI can assist gardeners to help make a meaningful impact that will help us all garden and grow more sustainably,’ Massey said in a recent interview.” 故选A。
1.G 根据前文“Green tech involves combining technology and science to create environmentally-friendly products. The idea is that by using products and services in the home to reduce energy consumption, waste, or harmful effects on the environment, we can all help the planet.”
2.B 根据后文“Just use your phone to shut them down.”
3.A 空处是本段小标题,应是对本段的高度概括,根据下文“Smart plugs are a great option, too, for controlling devices like televisions, coffee makers, or almost anything that is plugged into a wall socket to work. Devices like these use energy just by being plugged in, so using your phone or virtual assistant to turn the plugs on or off as needed helps stop energy drain in its tracks.” 故选A。
4.D 根据前文“For example, you can upcycle your old computers and laptops by repurposing them into home security monitors. Got an old Android phone?”
5.F 根据前文“It’s not hard to start adding green tech to your home.”以及后文“Once you start, you’ll quickly see how convenient green tech can be and how easy it is to start using it.”

Have you ever joyously stepped out to your backyard garden, only to find your carefully cared-for plants and herbs dying? Was the soil too dry? Did pests find their way in? During times like these, some frustrated gardeners may wish their plants would just tell them what they need. A new Microsoft-partnered project in the UK is trying to see if that concept can be realized in the real world.
Next year, the Royal Horticultural Society in England will show off an “intelligent garden” that uses an AI model to monitor the garden’s environment and inform gardeners when it needs care. Visitors can ask the AI-powered garden questions. The model could then respond with phrases like “I need a bit more water” or “I could use a haircut” depending on data captured in the soil. Apart from the pleasant chat with plants, the garden will provide visitors with a physical representation of the many ways AI could be used to improve sustainability (可持续性) and conservation efforts moving forward.
When the garden is completed, it will rely on a network of sensors throughout the garden measuring environmental factors like soil moisture and nutrient levels as well as wind and projected rainfall. All of that data is then sent to a specially designed AI model housed in a room at the back of the garden. The model, powered by Microsoft’s Azure OpenAI Service, can then analyse those factors and inform gardeners of feeding, watering and trimming (修剪) plants.
Tom Massey, one of the garden’s two designers, described the project as a “unique opportunity”. “I am excited to see how AI can assist gardeners to help make a meaningful impact that will help us all garden and grow more sustainably,” Massey said in a recent interview.

( )2.What can visitors do in the “intelligent garden”?
A.They can teach the AI model to recognize different plants.
B.They can use the AI model to design their own gardens.
C.They can adjust the environment of the garden perfectly.
D.They can communicate with the AI-powered garden.
( )3.What’s the main idea of the third paragraph?
A.The data collected by AI in the garden.
B.The location of the AI model in the garden.
C.The process of how the garden works.
D.The functions of the sensors in the garden.
( )4.What’s Tom Massey’s attitude towards the project?
A.Positive. B.Neutral.
C.Negative. D.Indifferent.
How to add green tech to your home
Green tech involves combining technology and science to create environmentally-friendly products. The idea is that by using products and services in the home to reduce energy consumption, waste, or harmful effects on the environment, we can all help the planet. 1.
Install smart light bulbs.
One quick way to reduce energy use is to switch all your light bulbs to energy-efficient versions called smart bulbs and use a virtual assistant to control them. These bulbs tend to use about 7 to 9.5 watts of power yet provide the same amount of light a 60-watt ordinary bulb offers. 2. Just use your phone to shut them down.
3.
Smart plugs are a great option, too, for controlling devices like televisions, coffee makers, or almost anything that is plugged into a wall socket to work. Devices like these use energy just by being plugged in, so using your phone or virtual assistant to turn the plugs on or off as needed helps stop energy drain in its tracks.
Upcycle or recycle your old tech.
Tech is everywhere in our homes, and when a device gets old, we tend to replace it with a newer, better and faster version. It’s okay to get the latest device, but why not reuse and repurpose the older ones? For example, you can upcycle your old computers and laptops by repurposing them into home security monitors. Got an old Android phone? 4.
It’s not hard to start adding green tech to your home. 5. Once you start, you’ll quickly see how convenient green tech can be and how easy it is to start using it.
A.Add smart plugs everywhere.
B.Forgot to turn off the lights?
C.Anyone can achieve it easily.
D.Upcycle it into a remote control for your TV.
E.Upcycle it instead of throwing it into the dust bin.
F.The real difficulty is in deciding to take that first small step today.
G.Below are several quick and easy ideas you can start using today.
