后文“In 1977, she founded the Jane Goodall Institute”明确提到1977年她创立了珍·古道尔研究所,对应这里的身份是该研究所的创始人,应用founder。
because of“因为”、thanks to“多亏了”、according to“根据”均不符合逻辑。

“be regarded as ...” of“……的”、in“在……
根据前文“spent her whole life”以及“Even at 90, she traveled 300 days a year”可知,她为保护动物和环境付出了一生的努力,应用lifelong。

I was eighteen and Jimmy was twenty. The next morning, I was to start for the West. He thought New York was the only place on earth. We agreed that night that we would meet here again in twenty years.”
“Interesting,” said the cop. “Have you heard from Jimmy since you went to the West?”
“Yes,” said the man. “But after a year or two, we stopped. The West is big. I moved around everywhere and had to fight for my success. But I know that Jimmy will meet me here if he can. In New York a man doesn’t change much. So I came a thousand miles to stand here tonight.”

Nearly all life on the earth relies on one source of energy —the sun. Solar (太阳的) energy lights the days, warms the air and land, and drives the planet’s climate.
The simplest way to get energy from the sun is from direct exposure (暴露) to its rays. In ancient China, clothes and books were taken out of homes and placed in the sunshine. This helped reduce damage from moisture (潮湿) and insects.
Another clever use of solar energy is in architectural designs. This can be traced back as far as 6000 years ago. During this period, homes were built with their openings facing south. This meant that even in winter, the low rays of sunshine would reach and warm their insides. By 2000 BCE, cities were designed with streets running east to west. This ensured that each house had a south-facing section receiving the most sunlight.
The ancient Chinese also created clever tools to capture energy from the sun. One notable example was yangsui (阳燧), or the “burning mirror”. This bronze, concave fire-starting tool was first used during the Western Zhou Dynasty (1046-771 BCE).
The ancient Chinese knew bronze to be a reflective metal. The concave shape of yangsui also demonstrates that they understood how to gather sunlight. When the rays hit the surface of yangsui, they reflected into a single focal point. The high temperature at that focal point was sufficient to set dry plant fibers on fire.
Yangsui was a particularly useful tool for cooking Indeed, The Book of Rites described how at the start of each day, the son of each household would attach yangsui to his belt. This way, he could easily start the family fire.
Nowadays, solar energy is used across the country in more efficient ways. Solar water heaters, which absorb (吸收) energy from the sun, have become popular in modern-day China. These water systems arc not only cheaper and more efficient than coal or wood-burning stoves, but also help reduce CO₂.
Turning sunlight into electricity is another application of solar technology. In recent years, China has added more solar power capacity than any other country. In the northwest of China, there is a first-of-its-kind, panda-shaped solar power plant. It is steering the city of Datong —previously known as the “capital of coal” —towards a greener path. Consisting of 170, 000 panels, the “panda power plant” generates 80 million kilowatt hours of solar-powered electricity each year. This is equal to the total annual electricity consumption of over 30, 000 households.
31. How does the writer explain the use of solar energy from ancient China to the present?
A. By providing examples. B. By giving causes.
C. By comparing conditions. D. By listing numbers.
32. Which picture below shows the working process of yangsui?
A. B. C. D.
33. The following paragraph can best go after ________
Heat from the sun was also used to preserve food, such as rice, fish, meat and vegetables —a practice that continues to the present day.
A. Paragraph 2 B. Paragraph 3 C. Paragraph 4 D. Paragraph 5
34. What can we learn from the passage?
A. In ancient China, people had no idea of using solar energy.
B. China has been using solar energy for a very short period of time.
C. Solar energy has recently been used in China in cheaper and greener ways.
D. Ancient Chinese built homes with north-facing openings for more sunlight.

Catherine shared a story of her son on LinkedIn, an online social platform.
A few weeks ago, Catherine asked Thomas, her 12-year-old son, what he would like to be when he grew up. Thomas said he wanted to be a Lego (乐高) designer. The next day he appeared with a letter, written in his “best handwriting”, asking Lego if he could work for them. He wisely shared that he’d be available to help with designing Lego after school, on weekends, and in the holidays—and that his sister would be keen to do the same.
His mom put the letter in the mail but also tried to manage his expectations. She told Thomas that the company probably wouldn’t respond though Lego would appreciate his letter. According to Catherine, “He looked disappointed.”
Then a package arrived from Christian Pau, the vice president and general manager of Lego U.K. and Ireland. Inside was a Lego kit (模型套装) and a handwritten letter that said:
“Seeing my son light up with pride at the beautifully crafted (制作精美的) letter,” Catherine wrote, “was something I won’t forget.” And neither will Thomas. Christian Pau didn’t know how Thomas might react to his letter. He simply took the time to respond. It was a small moment to him, but actually a big moment for Thomas. As Catherine wrote, “Thank you… for making my son see that it’s always worth trying.”

The Journey of Growth
Growing up is a process that everyone goes through.
In my journey of growth, I have learnt a great deal. When I was young, I was so shy that I couldn’t talk with others freely and loudly. But as I grow, I learn to face fear bravely and am willing to make some new friends. (In Grade 7, I was afraid of trying something new. However, with my friends’ encouragement, I have become more and more confident. And I’m glad to take on new challenges any time.)
When I have difficulty achieving the balance between hobbies and schoolwork. I often ask my teachers for help. First, I make a list of things I need to do and work out how much free time I have. Then I choose my hobbies according to the time. I can manage time better and get more organized.
Looking back, I realize that growth is not just about getting taller and older. It’s about getting over difficulties bravely and learning to be independent. Also, it helps us learn to take more responsibilities and be a better person.

The cop suddenly slowed his walk. Near the door of a darkened shop a man was standing. As the cop walked toward him, the man spoke quickly.
“It’s all right, officer,” he said. “I’m waiting for a friend. Twenty years ago we agreed to meet here tonight. He was my best friend and we grew up together here in New York, like two brothers.
The waiting man took out a fine watch. “Three minutes to ten,” he said. “It was ten that night when we said goodbye here.”
“I’ll go on my way, ”the cop said, “I hope your friend comes all right. If he isn’t here at ten, are you going to leave?”
“I am not! ”said the man. “I’ll wait half an hour, at least. If Jimmy is alive on earth, he’ll be here by that time. Goodbye, officer.”
“Goodbye,” said the cop, and walked away.
About twenty minutes later, a tall man in a long coat came hurrying across the street. “Is that you, Bob?” he asked, doubtfully.
“Is that you, Jimmy Wells? ”cried the man at the door. “I never thought you were so tall.” “Oh, I grew a little after I was twenty. ”
The new man took the man’s hands in his. “It’s Bob! It surely is. Twenty years is a long time. Come on, Bob, let’s have a good talk about old times. ”
The two men started along the street, arm in arm. At the corner stood a shop bright with electric lights. When they came near, each turned to look at the other’s face.
The man from the West stopped suddenly and pulled his arm away. “You’re not Jimmy Wells,” he said....
The man from the West opened the little piece of paper. His hand began to shake a little as he read.

C. Solar energy has recently been used in China in cheaper and greener ways.
D. Ancient Chinese built homes with north-facing openings for more sunlight.
