Summary Writing (10’) Directions: Read the following passage. Summarize the main idea and the main point(s) of the passage in no more than 60 words. Use your own words as far as possible.  【来源】上海市实验学校2026-2027学年高三上学期开学考英语试卷 “Buy Now, Pay Later” Lenders Pitch Loans for Needs Like Electricity and Rent “Buy now, pay later” loans took off during the pandemic as a way for online shoppers to spend money without using a credit card. Now, lenders are offering the loans as a means for people to finance basic household needs. The lending apps Flex and Zip allow customers to take out loans to pay for their broadband, electricity, health insurance, mobile phone service, mortgage and water bills. The rise in pay-later financing comes as many households are leaning more on debt to keep up with their daily expenses. For many borrowers, the loans have become their only option: Half of those using them said they could not make ends meet otherwise, according to the latest survey. Meanwhile, some shoppers with access to other credit deliberately choose pay-later loans. They prefer the loans’ short repayment terms and see their fees as more transparent than those on credit cards, where interest rates change and a single late payment can trigger penalties. But the pay-later loans can also become debt traps, especially when borrowers pile them up. One mistimed withdrawal can set off a series of overdraft (透支) fees and other missed payments, because pay-later loans often pull their payments directly from customers’ bank accounts or debit cards. Another concern about the explosion of pay-later lending is the way it largely exists outside the mainstream credit ecosystem, creating hundreds of billions of dollars in consumer debt that isn’t captured in traditional economic analyses and snapshots. That creates a blind spot sometimes called “phantom debt,” much of it held not by banks but by private credit firms that operate in the less regulated “shadow banking” system. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】“Buy now, pay later” loans, originally popular for online shopping, are now used to cover people’s daily household costs. Many borrowers rely on them due to financial hardship while some choose them for their transparent fees. However, such loans may trap users in debt and create unrecorded “phantom debt” in the loosely regulated shadow banking system. 要点摘录 ①“Buy now, pay later” loans took off during the pandemic as a way for online shoppers to spend money without using a credit card. Now, lenders are offering the loans as a means for people to finance basic household needs. ②The rise in pay-later financing comes as many households are leaning more on debt to keep up with their daily expenses. ③They prefer the loans’ short repayment terms and see their fees as more transparent than those on credit cards. ④But the pay-later loans can also become debt traps, especially when borrowers pile them up. ⑤That creates a blind spot sometimes called “phantom debt,” much of it held not by banks but by private credit firms that operate in the less regulated “shadow banking” system. 2. 3.遣词造句 “Buy now, pay later” loans, originally used for online shopping, are now helping people pay for household needs. Guided Writing (25’) Directions: Write an English composition in 120-150 words according to the instructions given below in Chinese. 【来源】上海市浦东新区2025-2026学年高三英语考前综合练习 假设你的学校英语报正在举办“家庭生活”主题讨论,近期收到一封署名“A Confused Parent”的来信,信中提出如下困惑: “I’ve been giving my child a small amount of money for doing household chores like washing dishes or tidying his room. However, some friends say this might make him see helping the family as just a way to earn money. What’s your opinion? Should parents give children money for doing domestic chores? ” 请你以“A Thoughtful Student”为署名,给英语报写一封回应信。你的文章需包括: (1) 阐明你的观点(支持、反对或有条件支持); (2) 给出至少两个理由支持你的观点,可结合生活观察或实际案例; (3) 提出一个可行的替代建议(如你持反对态度)或补充建议(如你持支持态度)。 ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Dear Confused Parent, I am writing to share my thoughts on whether parents should pay children for doing domestic chores. Personally, I am against this practice. First, doing household chores is a shared responsibility rather than a way to earn money. If children are paid for washing dishes, they may view family duties as commercial transactions. Consequently, they might refuse to help out unless financially rewarded. Furthermore, paying for chores can undermine children’s intrinsic sense of responsibility. For instance, a friend of mine stopped helping his mother with housework simply because she forgot to give him his “salary”. Instead of paying for daily chores, I suggest parents give children a fixed allowance to teach them financial management. Meanwhile, parents can reward their hard work with verbal praise or extra family bonding time, which fosters a genuine sense of belonging. 词汇积累 而不是:rather than→instead of 帮助:help→assist 方式:way→approach 把……看待成……:view...as...→regard...as... 2. First, doing household chores is a shared responsibility rather than a way to earn money. First, doing household chores is a shared responsibility which should not be regarded as a way to earn money. 1】First, doing household chores is a shared responsibility rather than a way to earn money. 2】If children are paid for washing dishes, they may view family duties as commercial transactions. Summary Writing (10’) Directions: Read the following passage. Summarize the main idea and the main point(s) of the passage in no more than 60 words. Use your own words as far as possible. The psychology behind sports fandom We all know there are sports fans all around the world. But what psychological processes drive them to support their favorite athletes or teams with such passion, even without the possibility of reward? Psychologists have long been interested in this topic. Their survey reveals that people’s need for a sense of belonging is met when connected to something bigger than themselves. It taps into their need for purpose. Without this connection, they may feel that what they do doesn’t really matter. Sports fandom tends to involve a deep emotional attachment, too. Fans may not directly contribute to the results of matches, but they feel each win and loss as their own. As a result, they continue to put in their emotions, time, energy — and often money — to support their favorite stars or teams. Sports fans consider their devotion to be a rewarding investment. Fandom can serve as a form of escape, allowing them to temporarily disconnect from their daily stresses. It also raises self-esteem, as fans often associate themselves with successful teams and feel a sense of pride. In addition, being part of a sports community can strengthen social bonds. For example, fans tend to say “we,” “us” and “our” to show their attachment to their favorite team, especially when it performs well. This shared language fosters a sense of togetherness and helps people build friendships. This is more important than ever nowadays as other bonds across society have weakened, such as music and pop culture. However, sports fans should not put too many eggs in the sports basket. After all, being a fan is all about chasing moments of pure joy that stay with you for a long time, whereas the heavy emotional investment can lead to feelings of anxiety or disappointment when a team or athlete performs badly. For some people, the attachment becomes so strong that it affects their normal lives. There have been extreme cases of people skipping a child’s wedding for a certain game! ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 The passage explores the psychological drivers behind sports fandom, highlighting how it fulfills a need for belonging and purpose, fosters emotional attachment, and boosts self-esteem. It also serves as an escape from daily stress and strengthens social connections. However, excessive investment can lead to anxiety or life imbalances. Sports fandom offers joy but should be balanced to avoid negative impacts. 要点摘录 ①Their survey reveals that people’s need for a sense of belonging is met when connected to something bigger than themselves. ②Sports fans consider their devotion to be a rewarding investment. It also raises self-esteem, as fans often associate themselves with successful teams and feel a sense of pride. In addition, being part of a sports community can strengthen social bonds. ③However, sports fans should not put too many eggs in the sports basket. I appreciate the initiative to engage our community on the Double Ninth Festival. However, I have some suggestions to enhance the event. Firstly, while tai chi and paper-cutting are great, they might not appeal to all seniors. To include more participants, we could add activities like music appreciation or storytelling sessions that cater to different interests and abilities. Secondly, to make the most of the half-day event, a detailed schedule should be created and shared beforehand. This will help ensure smooth transitions between activities and allow participants to prepare accordingly. Lastly, to foster deeper connections, I propose making the talent show interactive by inviting a few seniors to share their stories or talents alongside the students. This would create a more collaborative and intergenerational atmosphere. Thank you for considering my suggestions. I believe these adjustments will make the event more meaningful and memorable for everyone involved.
