One Stadium, Seeing the Future of a City
Along the Xiangjiang River in southern Changsha, right in Tianxin District (区), thousands of workers are busy building the Changsha Olympic Sports Center. Work began in April 2025, and people plan to finish the project by the end of 2028.
The centre has one big stadium and two other sports halls. This big stadium can hold 65,000 people. It will be the key place for China’s 16th National Games in 2029. What’s more, this will be the first time the National Games is held in Central China. For us Tianxin students, it is really something to feel proud of.
Beyond these sports buildings, a whole new town is growing around them — the Olympic Sports New Town. It sits inside Tianxin District too. It covers a large area and will offer (提供) houses for about 273,000 people in the future. Besides sports places, people will get new schools, better roads and nice public spaces here. Many of us local (当地的) teenagers will study, play and grow up in this wonderful new home.
When the big national sports game comes to an end, all these modern buildings will be open to common people. Local people can make use of them to do sports, take walks and enjoy different shows. You see, a great sports stadium brings life to a completely new town. In this way, it clearly shows how a large project can build the future of our city.
4. Where is the Changsha Olympic Sports Center?
A. In the north of Changsha
B. In Tianxin District of Changsha
C. Far away from the Xiangjiang River
5. When did workers start to build the sports center?
A. In 2025 B. In 2028 C. In 2029
6. What feeling does the writer want Tianxin students to have?
A. Happy but worried B. Surprised but sad C. Proud and hopeful
7. The underlined word “stadium” in the passage means ______.
A. a large building for sports games
B. a big house for people to live in
C. a small room for students to study
C
Sometimes when heavy rain falls on you, it may bring you a little pain. Have you ever thought about what happens when big raindrops hit (撞击) a small mosquito (蚊子)? A study says a raindrop hitting a mosquito is just like a bus hitting a person. In heavy rain, mosquitoes get hit by raindrops about once every 20 seconds. Even so, you can hardly see many dead mosquitoes after rain. How do these little insects stay alive when big raindrops fall on them?
A mosquito is nearly as big as a raindrop, but it is very light — only about 0.002 g. This helps it stay safe when raindrops hit it. Because the mosquito is so light, the raindrop will not give it enough strong push to kill it.
The study also finds: when a raindrop hits a mosquito, the raindrop pushes the insect, and they fall down together. Luckily, water does not easily get onto the mosquito’s body. There are many small hairs all over its body, and the hairs keep water away. After falling about 6 cm, the mosquito can roll (滚) off the raindrop and fly away fast.
Still, this good way does not work every time. If the mosquito flies very near the ground when a raindrop hits it, it has no time to get away. It will hit the ground hard and die.
8. How often does a mosquito get hit by raindrops in heavy rain?
A. About once every 20 seconds
B. About once every 0.002 minutes
C. About once every 6 seconds
9. What two things help mosquitoes stay safe from raindrops?
A. Big body size and strong wings
B. Light weight and small hairs on its body
C. Fast flying speed and strong legs
10. When may a mosquito lose its life on rainy days?
A. When it falls together with a raindrop for 3 m
B. When it flies very near the ground while being hit
C. When much water gets onto its body
11. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. To tell us why heavy rain brings people pain
B. To talk about different kinds of small flying insects
C. To explain why most mosquitoes do not die in the rain

Do you spend plenty of time on your phone and social media? Lots of teenagers do. In Denmark, the government is worried about this problem. It plans to stop social media (社交媒体) for children under 15, because phones are taking away kids’ childhood.
Phones are helpful for contacting friends and family. However, social media also brings a lot of downsides. Reports show Danish kids aged 9-14 spend around three hours on screens every day. Some of them get unhealthy online information. It may leave them feeling unhappy or worried. What’s worse, many kids find it hard to focus on reading or schoolwork in class.
The new rule will stop kids under 15 from using social media. Still, parents can allow children aged 13 and above to use it.
Many countries follow similar ways: France, Greece and Spain set limits (限制) for kids. In the UK, online companies must protect (保护) children from unhealthy information. Australia will ban (禁止) social media for under 16-s soon.
However, China uses a different way. Most websites (网站) have a special page for students. It shortens online time and hides bad news. Kids younger than 16 can’t show themselves online to others. Students can’t bring phones into classrooms, and parents need to teach kids to use the Internet in good ways.
