Chinese paper cutting, or Jianzhi, is a famous traditional art with a long history. It first came out in China more than 1,500 years ago, during the Northern and Southern Dynasties. As time went on, it slowly became an important part of Chinese culture and people’s daily life.
The most common color for Jianzhi is red. In Chinese culture, red means joy, good luck and happiness. So people often use red paper to make Jianzhi for special days. What tools do we need to make Jianzhi? We just need some pieces of paper and a pair of scissors. How can we make it? First, the paper is folded in half or a few times gently. Then, simple lines or small shapes (like flowers or fish) are drawn on the folded paper with a pencil. Finally, the paper is cut along the lines carefully with scissors. Even new learners can make simple and nice patterns easily with a little practice.
Common Jianzhi themes (主题) are flowers, animals, lucky characters and small scenes from life. For example, fish patterns mean “having more than enough” in life, and dragon patterns stand for good luck and strength (力量). Today, Jianzhi is still very popular. On Chinese New Year, weddings and other happy days, people put Jianzhi on windows, doors or walls to make their homes nice and bring good luck to the family. In 2009, Chinese paper cutting was added to UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage Lists (联合国教科文组织非物质文化遗产名录). Both Chinese people and foreigners love it very much because of its great cultural value and simple, beautiful look.
23.When did Jianzhi first appear in China?
A.More than 150 years ago B.In 2009 C.Over 1500 years ago
24.What is the most commonly used color in Jianzhi?
A.Yellow B.Red C.Blue
25.What tools are needed for making Jianzhi?
A.Paper, scissors and a brush
B.Some pieces of paper and a pair of scissors

26.Which of the following is TRUE about Jianzhi?

B.It was listed in UNESCO in 1500

第二节(共10小题;每小题1分,满分10分)
An Invention That Changed the World
Can you imagine a world 46 books, newspapers, or magazines? All of these things depend on one invention—papermaking. It, more than any other invention, was responsible for the rapid spread of information that shaped 47 (we) modern world.
In ancient China, many different 48 (material) were used to write on, such as animal bones, bronze ware, stones, wood, bamboo, and even silk. In the Western Han Dynasty, there was also a very early form of paper made from jute—a fibre that comes from plants. However, all of these materials were either difficult to use and store, 49 very expensive.
As the head officer of the palace workshop for the emperor in the Eastern Han Dynasty, Cai Lun became interested in trying 50 (solve) the problem. Different methods for creating something to write on were tried, but none were ideal. In his time, some kinds of bark—the outer part of trees—were used to make clothes. From past experiences, Cai Lun got the idea that bark, certain plants, and old clothes could be used to make a special material 51 (suit) to write on.
In the first step of Cai Lun’s experiment, all the ingredients 52 (mix) and boiled in water. Then, this material was beaten, cut up, and mixed with water again. Next, the liquid was poured over a bamboo screen, leaving just the fibre. Finally, this fibre was dried and pressed to form paper. To everyone’s surprise, this paper was soft, light, easy to make and use, and most importantly, cheap. In 105 CE, Cai Lun showed his creation to the emperor. 53 emperor was very pleased and praised Cai Lun for his great work.
Later on, the papermaking technique not only speeded up the development of Chinese culture, but also changed civilizations around the world. It 54 (one) spread to China’s neighbouring countries and finally reached Europe through Arab countries in the 12th century. When the use of paper and printing came together in later centuries, it led to a rapid increase in the number of books. This 55 (result) in a new birth of knowledge, creating the world we have today.
第四部分 读写综合(共两节,满分25分)
第一节 根据短文内容,按要求回答问题。
In the 1970s, plastic shopping bags were hard to see. Today, they have become common products around the world. You can find them in the dark deep sea, on the top of Mount Qomolangma, and even in the polar (极地的) areas. Unluckily, the wide use of plastic bags has caused serious problems.
The story of plastic bags began in 1959, when a Swedish designer named Sten Gustaf Thulin created them. Unlike what many people think now, his idea was to save the earth, not hurt it. People used paper bags before plastic bags appeared. But making large numbers of paper bags meant cutting down more trees. So Thulin invented plastic bags that were lighter, stronger and more durable (耐用的) than paper ones. He hoped people would reuse them instead of throwing them away after using them once.
Things did not go as Thulin planned, though. Since plastic bags were cheap to produce, shops gave them for free. This convenience made people stop reusing them— often, people just used a plastic bag once to carry things home, and then threw it away.
As a result, plastic bag waste grew rapidly. Their light weight allows the wind to easily carry them into rivers, forests, and the sea. An even bigger problem is their durability: a paper bag breaks down in a few months, while it takes hundreds or even thousands of years for a plastic bag to fully break down. Over time, plastic bags break into very small pieces that pollute the land and water. Animals like fish and birds often eat these pieces by mistake. And finally, the plastic even finds its way back to human tables through the food chain (链).
56.Why did Thulin create the plastic bags?
57.What did Thulin expect people to do with plastic bags?
58.Why did people stop reusing plastic bags?
59.What makes plastic bags an environmental problem according to the last paragraph?
60.What would you say to Thulin if you could tell him about plastic bags now?

【答案】56.Because he wanted to save the earth. 57.He expected people to reuse them. 58.Because plastic bags were cheap to produce and shops gave plastic bags for free. 59.Their light weight and durability. 60.I’m sorry your invention was misunderstood. Now we’re learning to change.
【导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要讲述了塑料袋的发明背景、发明者的初衷以及塑料袋广泛使用后带来的严重环境问题。
【详解】56.第二段明确指出“Unlike what many people think now, his idea was to save the earth, not hurt it”,说明Thulin发明塑料袋是为了拯救地球,因此答案是原文直接信息。
57.第二段明确指出“He hoped people would reuse them instead of throwing them away after using them once”,说明Thulin期望人们重复使用塑料袋,因此答案是原文直接信息。
58.第三段明确指出“Since plastic bags were cheap to produce, shops gave them for free. This convenience made people stop reusing them”,说明人们停止重复使用是因为生产成本低,商店免费提供,因此答案是原文直接信息。
59.第四段指出“Their light weight allows the wind to easily carry them...An even bigger problem is their durability... for a plastic bag to fully break down”,说明轻便和耐用性使塑料袋成为环境问题,答案几乎是原文引述。
60.本题为开放性试题,答案不唯一,但观点需基于文中事实。结合文章内容和自己的看法、理由,合理作答即可。

My growing-up moment
Last term, our English teacher asked me to give a speech in front of the class. At first, I felt terribly nervous, and my voice was shaking. However, I rehearsed every evening and asked my teacher for advice. On the day of the speech, I took a deep breath and finished it clearly. When my classmates smiled and clapped, I became much more confident. This experience taught me that fear does not disappear by itself. Careful preparation and the courage to try can help me grow.
