Sophia is a most famous robot. She comes from Hanson Robotics, and David Hanson, head of Hanson Robotics, is her creator. He has been developing robots in the past 25 years. He believes realistic-looking robots will be able to connect with people and help industries such as health care and education.
Sophia has many abilities. She can copy human facial expressions, hold conversations and know people by their looks or voices. She can also speak, joke, sing and even make music. Now, the next step is to make her an artist. Hanson is so excited about this idea. He imagines Sophia as a creative artwork and she herself can create art as well.
In March, a digital(数字的) artwork Sophia created with an Italian artist, Andrea Bonaceto, was sold for $688,888. The digital work is titled "Sophia Instantiation". It's a 12-second video which shows Bonaceto's portrait(肖像) changing into Sophia's digital painting. Along with it is the physical artwork painted by Sophia.
The buyer, a digital artwork collector and artist, later sent Sophia a photo of his painted arm. The robot then added that photo to her knowledge and painted more on top of the artwork. Sophia described the work as the first digital artwork completed by AI and an artwork collector.
Sophia's artwork is part of a growing trend(趋势). More and more digital artworks are on sale now. For example, a digital artwork by an artist, Beeple, was sold for nearly $70 million, becoming the most expensive digital artwork ever sold.

Where do you paint? Maybe you can paint on paper, on a piece of cloth and even on the wall. But have you ever thought of creating pictures in the fields? In Anhui, every year farmers plant different kinds and colors of rice to "make" pictures in the fields. This is rice paddy art(稻田艺术).
Some villages were trying to do something to help the farmers make more money. They needed a way to attract tourists and then the rice paddy art came into being. During the first few years, the farmers created simple pictures. Later they were able to make more complex ones.
Every April, the villagers meet and decide what to plant for the year. Before planting, farmers design the pictures on computers to work out where and how to plant the rice. After that, farmers plant different kinds of rice in different areas of fields. When rice grows tall, different colors will appear in the fields.

Every culture around the world has different customs and ways of communicating. When you learn a language, you learn more than words.
In China, people are used to saying "sorry" to show that they regret doing something wrong. But American people are proud to have polite manners towards one another in public. They often use the word "sorry" — even when they don't really mean it! Usually, if they want to ask a stranger about the time, they will start by saying "Sorry to trouble you". If they're five minutes late for the appointment, they will greet the person by saying "Sorry, I'm late!". It's quite different in China. They use the word "sorry" in so many different situations that the meaning of the word has changed a little over time.
So what does "sorry" really mean? And why do Western people use it so much? Well, in Western culture, saying "sorry" is a way to be polite. It's also a very clever way to get what they want. If you want to borrow something from others, you'd better say "sorry" to them about something. Or it's hard for you to get what you want. So maybe saying "sorry" is not only just being polite, but also a good method of getting what you want!
( ) 70. What does the underlined word "appointment" mean in Chinese?
A. 约会
B. 协议
C. 想法
D. 安全
( ) 71. What does the writer think of saying "sorry" in Western culture?
A. It is a sign of weakness.
B. It is a clever way to get what they want.
C. It shows that people really regret something.
D. It is impolite to say it to a stranger.
( ) 72. What's the best title for the text?
A. How to say "sorry" correctly
B. The different meanings of "sorry"
C. Why Western people say "sorry"
D. Why Chinese people say "sorry"

If you have ever seen a celebration of the Chinese New Year, you may have seen a large, colorful lion dance to the sounds of drums. Of course, it is not a real lion. It's actually skilled dancers in costume, performing a lion dance.
The lion dance is a traditional part of Chinese culture. It is often performed on the eve of the Chinese New Year. It's also performed on other special occasions, like weddings. The dance is thought to bring good luck and success.
While there are many different stories of how the lion dance began, one story traces back to a village in China hundreds of years ago. The story says that the villagers were attacked by a monster called Nian. A lion scared the Nian away. But a year later, the Nian returned, and this time the lion was unable to help. So the villagers created the lion costume of their own. The fake(假的) lion danced, and scared the Nian away. For this reason, people perform the lion dance on the night before the Chinese New Year.
There are two different styles of the lion dance. In a southern lion dance, the dancers base their performance on a lion's behavior. The lion may scratch(挠) or shake its body. The dance can be funny. The other style is the northern lion dance. This style is closely related to the martial art(武术). It includes rolling and jumping. Both styles require skill and practice to perform. And both are very interesting to watch!

Ⅳ.16. Reading 17. Cleaning 18. sister19. show 20. ball
【听力要点】第3题注意 thirty /ˈθɜːti/ 与 thirteen /ˌθɜːˈtiːn/ 的辨音;第11题短文首句即给出 lived a simple life;第16—20题为信息转换,录音中出现 poor and small、by farming、a large park、drive to work、richer and more beautiful,填写时注意词形(17题 by 后接动词-ing 形式;20题后有 more beautiful,须用比较级)。
Ⅴ. 单项填空(21—30) 21—25 B C B A D 26—30 B D C B D
21. B 由答语后句 I will drive back 可知“宾馆和朋友家都不住”,表示“既不……也不……”用 neither... nor...。
22. C neither... nor...
24. A 难题。定语从句 she can come up with 修饰 ways, come up with 意为“想出”,其后用不定式 to help her out 作目的状语,故选 with to help。
25. D 由 encouraged me and offered me much help 可知老师“有耐心”,用 patient;其余三项 polite 礼貌的、private 私人的、peaceful 平和的,均不能概括语境。
26. B as good as gold
27. D be born with 意为“天生具有”,与后文 Nobody taught her 呼应;注意用过去式 was。
28. C make it + 宾补 + to do 结构中,it 作形式宾语,真正的宾语是后面的不定式短语,故选 it。
29. B 宾语从句须用陈述语序,即“连接词 + 主语 + 谓语”,故选 where the new coffee shop is。

A篇
