Should drones take the place of fireworks?
As drone (无人机) light-shows are getting more and more popular, they are starting to take the place of firework (烟花) shows at some celebrations and important activities. Some people say this is the future. However, others don’t think so. What do you think? Should drones take the place of fireworks? Here are the answers of two students.
Firework shows are so noisy that they can be very distressing (令人不安的) for animals, as well as young children and old people. But drone light-shows are different. They let people enjoy shows more quietly. Besides, drones are better for the environment (环境). They don’t cause any air pollution (污染) like smoke. People can also use drones many times, but fireworks can only be used once. And best of all, drones can do things that fireworks never can. For example, they can create many beautiful pictures and words and even move like dancing in the night sky. This makes the show much more exciting to watch.
Drone light-shows are fun to watch, but they are far more expensive than firework shows. If people don’t have enough money to buy drones, they can’t have the shows. Also, drone light-shows can be dangerous sometimes. Good weather is very important for safe flying. If one of the drones stops working, the show will be a total mess. Fireworks don’t have these problems. Most importantly, it is a tradition (传统) to set off fireworks on some special holidays. We shouldn’t lose the tradition, as it brings us joy and warm memories.

Would you like to spend time in the sun, or do you like the quiet night better? Now, one popular travel trend (趋势) is “noctourism” — travel experiences at night.
The word “noctourism” comes from “nocturnal (夜间发生的)” and “tourism”. The night sky is a big reason for many people to travel at night. A 2024 study of 27,000 people found that 62% wanted to visit places with darker skies.
There are some things you can only see at night, such as the aurora borealis, better known as the northern lights (北极光). And 2025 is expected to be a great year to see them. This is because the sun is more active, making the lights stronger and brighter than usual. The best places to see the northern lights are Iceland, Norway and Finland.
In fact, nature has many other night wonders. For example, some beaches light up at night because of shining sea animals. In Australia’s Jervis Bay, plankton (浮游生物) makes the water shine brightly. A night trip to the zoo can be a fun choice too, since many interesting animals are active during the night. In Kruger National Park in South Africa, for example, people can see wild animals like lions and leopards moving around at night easily.
Cities also look very different at night. Paris is famous as the City of Light because of its wonderful night lights. For people looking for art after dark, Paris joins the European Night of Museums. On this special night, many museums stay open late and are free to visit.
