主题01 人与社会——著名人物、励志故事
Passage 1
(25-26九年级上·广东省深圳市百合外国语学校·期中)
Jane Goodall, the world-famous primatologist (灵长类动物学家) and conservationist (环保主义者), passed away at the age of 91 on October 1, 2025, in California, US. She was on a speaking tour at that time. The Jane Goodall Institute told people about her death. It praised her for changing science and devoting her life to protecting nature.
Goodall was born in London in 1934. When she was a child, she loved animals very much. In 1960, when she was 26, she went to Tanzania’s Gombe Stream National Park to study chimpanzees (黑猩猩) and she didn’t even have formal scientific training. Her patience finally brought good results. She became the first person to see chimps make tools. For example, chimps use twigs to “fish” for termites (白蚁). This discovery changed how humans understand animals. Before that, people thought only humans could make tools.
In the next 60 years, Goodall’s research found more interesting facts about chimps. They have different personalities; they feel emotions like joy and sadness, and they form strong family connections. Later in her life, she turned her attention to helping protect the environment around the world. She started the Jane Goodall Institute and set up “Roots and Shoots”. It is a program that helps young people take action to protect the environment.

Passage 2
(25-26九年级上·广东省深圳市新亚洲学校·期中)
Hua Luogeng was born in 1910 in Jiangsu Province. His family was poor — his father was a farmer, and his mother did housework. When Hua was 15, he had to drop out of school because his family couldn’t afford the tuition (学费). But he didn’t stop learning math — he borrowed books from friends and studied on his own.
One day, Hua found a mistake in a math book. He wrote a letter to the author, explaining the mistake clearly. The author was surprised — a 19-year-old boy who didn’t finish high school found a mistake in a college textbook! The author invited Hua to study at his university, but Hua refused. He said, “I need to stay with my family and help them. ” Instead, he got a job at a middle school and taught math while continuing his own studies.
In 1930, Hua published his first math paper. The paper caught the attention of Professor Xiong Qinglai — a famous mathematician. Professor Xiong invited Hua to work at Tsinghua University. At Tsinghua, Hua didn’t have a formal degree, but he worked harder than anyone else. He read hundreds of math books and wrote many papers. Soon, he became a teacher at Tsinghua — even though he had never gone to college.
Hua Luogeng died in 1985, but his spirit lives on. He showed that no matter how poor you are or how many difficulties you face, you can achieve your dreams if you keep learning and working hard.

Later, she wrote a long letter which became Allende’s first novel, The House of the Spirits.
The Writing Life

Passage 1
(25-26九年级上·广东深圳市福田区石厦学校·期中)
It was the late 1980s. I was about three or four years old. My grandparents bought a personal computer (PC) for their restaurant business. Besides the usual office software, the machine could run some simple games — a pleasure to me at the time.
Nearly every Saturday, my parents would go to the restaurant for lunch and I would play on the computer if Grandma wasn’t using it for work. She often encouraged me to play the games while I was there.
Years later, my grandparents received another PC from my aunt and they gave it to me. This PC was very different from my grandparents’. I could create software with it. Grandma bought me a book on basic programming. By then, she always made sure that I wasn’t just playing games on my computer. She often got me educational applications (应用) to help me with my studies.
Over time, I learned more about how computers work than Grandma did. Sometimes, Grandma would ask for my help when she had computer problems. Since I was busy with my studies, I would sometimes complain about having to spend time fixing her computer. Now I really regret what I did to her.
Today, I work for one of Canada’s largest tech companies. Without Grandma, I would never have become so good at programming or got this high-paying job. Last summer, I noticed that Grandma was having problems with her computer after upgrading (升级). Within minutes, I had everything fixed. Unlike me in my teenage years, I didn’t complain, and I will never do that again.

But my life changed completely when I met three special men. First, there was Mr Charles Howard. He was a kind and rich man. He decided to buy me. Then, there was Tom Smith. He was my trainer. He was very quiet, but he understood horses perfectly. He knew I had a strong spirit inside. Finally, there was Red Pollard. He became my jockey (骑师) and my best friend. Red was also having a hard time in his life. We understood each other perfectly.
Together, we became a team. Tom trained me with patience and kindness. Red talked to me and encouraged me. He never forced me to run. We built trust. For the first time, I felt that someone believed in me. I wanted to run for them. I wanted to win.

Passage 1
(25-26九年级上·广东省深圳市福田区红岭集团·期中)
For as long as I can remember, on the third Saturday of every month, my mother, my brother, and I would volunteer at our local food bank to hand out food. I learned quickly that TV shows don’t show what poverty (贫穷) and hunger are really like in real life. I had been made to believe that hunger only happens in the poorest corners of the world, far from where I live. Unluckily, that is simply not the case. As Feeding America reports, over 47 million people in the US face hunger, including one in every five children.
In 2024, I had the chance to visit the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley, a member of the Feeding America network, in McAllen, Texas. I worked with some amazing volunteers to give out holiday meals to families in need.
This experience impressed me as the most special chance of my life. While other food distribution (分发) experiences are meaningful, they are much more formalized (正规的) with organized lines. However, this experience allowed me to get close to those in need. With each food box we delivered and each “thank you” we heard, I felt connected to the McAllen community in a way that I had never thought possible.
Meeting families who were living in small, self-made homes, each with up to ten children and adults, showed me the meaning of resilience (坚韧). Though they were in challenging situations, the children remained joyful and hopeful. I still can’t get it out of my head.
There are so many people that spend a lot of time helping others as volunteers. The truth is, there is still so much to be done to end hunger. I hope we all do our best to support organizations like Feeding America that are trying to make a difference in communities all across the country.
1.What did the author realize after she began to volunteer?
A.Hunger is a serious problem in the US. B.Hunger happens in the poorest countries.
C.Many children in the US are in bad health. D.There are not enough volunteers in the US.
2.What made the author’s 2024 volunteering experience different?

Passage 2
(25-26九年级上·广东省深圳市龙岗区华附集团·期中)
Everyone thought the school science fair winner would be either Mark, who knew all the answers, or Emma, who had built a perfect volcano model. Then there was Leo. He was a quiet boy who always seemed to be reading books about fish and oceans. His idea was to build a simple water filter using sand, rocks, and a plastic bottle. It sounded interesting, but also very difficult.
During the preparation weeks, Mark worked on remembering every fact. Emma made sure her volcano erupted perfectly. But Leo’s project had many problems. His first filter didn’t let water through. His second one broke. The night before the fair, his bottle even cracked.
But Leo didn’t see these problems as failures. “Why did it get blocked? Was the sand too thick?” he wondered. He stayed up late in his garage, working quietly. He found a stronger bottle, changed the order of the rocks and sand, and tested it over and over.
On the day of the fair, Mark and Emma gave their presentations perfectly. Then it was Leo’s turn. His model looked simple, but when he spoke, his face was full of excitement. He didn’t just show a result; he told the story of his journey— all the mistakes, what he learned from them, and how his filter finally worked. He spoke with true passion.
When the judges announced the results, everyone was surprised. The head judge explained why: “It’s great to have knowledge, and it’s impressive to have a perfect model. But what leads to real success is a strong heart—one that isn’t afraid of difficulties, that enjoys finding solutions, and that never gives up. Leo didn’t just build a water filter today. He showed us the very qualities that will help him succeed in life.”
That day, all the students learned an important lesson. The biggest wins don’t always go to the smartest or the one with the perfect project, but to the one who is the most determined and loves learning the most.

During the holiday, I went with my parents to visit my grandparents in the countryside. When Grandma said she had been very busy with farm work, I immediately decided to stay overnight at her house.
The thought of planting seeds and watering the fields, just like Li Ziqi who makes beautiful videos about country life, made me really excited. That night, I could hardly fall asleep.
“Sweetie, time to get up.” Grandma’s soft voice woke me up. I looked at the clock. It was only 5:30 in the morning.
I asked, “Grandma, why do we have to get up so early?”
“Because the hens just laid their eggs. Now is the best time to collect them,” she explained.
The morning air was cool and fresh. But as we walked towards the chicken house, a strong, unpleasant smell came out. I held my breath and followed Grandma closely. She opened a small window and reminded me, “You have to be quick but gentle.”
I saw a hen guarding two large eggs. She looked a bit scary. I took a deep breath and slowly reached out my hand. Suddenly, the hen stood up! I let out a small cry but quickly picked up the eggs before she could peck(啄)me.
The eggs felt warm in my hands. They were so different from the cold ones we usually take out of the fridge.
Later, we watered the vegetables in the fields, picked two pumpkins, and collected a small basket of chilies. By the time Grandma called me for dinner, I was already sound asleep on the sofa.

Passage 4
(25-26九年级上·广东省深圳市罗湖区·期中)
In early 2023, a year after my father’s death, I started a journey to the Galápagos Islands, hoping to feel alive again.
At Post Office Bay, an old wooden barrel (桶) came into view. It is still used as a postbox. Travellers leave letters and take ones they can deliver (派送) themselves. I picked two and handed them over myself. The joy on the receivers’ faces gave me an idea: what if I spent a year travelling the world, passing on letters from that postbox? In March 2024, I began my journey with 55 letters from the Galápagos, planning to visit 52 countries. I avoided using social media, depending only on locals to help me find the receivers’ addresses.
At first, I was nervous—knocking on strangers’ doors, unsure what they would think. Most people were surprised but soon became warm and welcoming. Some moments were unforgettable. In Bergen, Norway, I was almost caught by the police when a woman mistook my selfie stick (自拍杆) for a weapon (武器) and called the police. I had to show them my social media to explain. My favourite letter was in Mexico City, from a daughter to her ill mother, thanking her for letting her follow her dreams. Their love reminded me deeply of my own father.

(25-26九年级上·广东省深圳市龙岗区华附集团·期中)
As growing crops that can get used to climate change is becoming more and more important, Chinese scientists have found, in an important study, a new way that can greatly improve crop production when it’s really hot. It’s predicted that if the global temperature goes up by 2 degrees Celsius (摄氏度), the average losses of crops will increase a lot, by 3 to 13 percent. This shows that we really need more kinds of crops that can stand the heat to deal with future problems about having enough food.
Scientists from the Institute of Genetics and Developmental Biology under the Chinese Academy of Sciences used a new gene-editing tool. They put a heat-shock part into a tomato gene called LIN5. This change makes the gene work better when it’s hot and stops fruits from lacking too much sugar at high temperatures.
Tests done in different seasons and places, like greenhouses and open fields, showed that this method made tomato yields (产量) go up by 14 to 47 percent in normal weather and 26 to 33 percent when it was hot. It also stopped 56 to 100 percent of the losses in yield caused by heat, according to a study that came out recently in the magazine Cell. What’s more, the team’s test on rice showed that this genetic engineering way can increase rice production by 7 to 13 percent in normal conditions and by 25 percent when it’s hot. It can also cut down 41 percent of the losses in yield because of high temperatures.
These tests have really helped crops get better at dealing with climate change and started a new time of designing crops that can give a lot of yield and stay stable even with the changing climate, the researchers said.

主题05 人与自我——自我管理与自我提升
Passage 1
(25-26九年级上·广东省深圳市观澜二中教育集团·期中)
Learning is a key part of every student’s life. To achieve true success, it’s necessary to use effective methods and keep a positive attitude. Here are three useful ways to help you learn better.
Review with Space
Don’t study everything at once. If you do, you may forget it quickly. A more scientific way is to review what you learn again and again, with breaks in between. For example, you can review English words you learned after school, then again the next day, a few days later, and finally a week after that. This method works with your brain’s natural “forgetting curve(遗忘曲线)”. It helps to move knowledge from your short-term memory into long-term storage(储存). It’s a more useful way to save your time and help you remember what you’ ve learned.
Learn by Thinking-Even Silently
Passively(被动地)reading your notes is not enough. A research led by Professor Yang Chunliang at Beijing Normal University shows that “silent retrieval” is surprisingly useful. That is to say, simply thinking about what you’ve learned without writing or speaking is useful. After studying, close your book and try to think about main ideas, recall(回忆) key points or answer questions silently. This helps you understand better and use knowledge in real life.
Believe You Can Improve
Your attitude matters. Believe that you can get better if you try. Science shows that your brain can grow stronger when you face difficulties. Instead of seeing challenges and mistakes as failures, view them as valuable chances to learn and grow. If something is hard, ask for help or practice more. Set small goals and give yourself a small gift when you make little progress. This keeps you going and being confident.
1.How will the “Review with Space” method help with people’s study according to the passage?
A.It helps people remember knowledge for a long time.
B.It helps people remember only English words effectively.
C.It helps people learn more new knowledge in a short time.
D.It allows people to finish homework without any difficulty.
2.The underlined phrase “silent retrieval” in Paragraph 3 probably means ________.
A.reading notes aloud to remember them B.asking teachers for help silently
C.writing down key points secretly D.thinking about learned knowledge silently
3.Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage?
A.Passive reading is enough to understand knowledge well.
B.Your brain can’t grow stronger when facing difficulties.
C.You shouldn’t give yourself gifts even if you make progress.
D.The “Review with Space” method follows the brain’s forgetting curve.
4.What can we infer from the passage?
A.Effective learning only depends on hard work.
B.Making mistakes means you will never succeed in learning.
C.Students who use the right methods may learn more efficiently.
D.Short-term memory is more important than long-term memory.
5.What does the passage mainly talk about?
A.Learning by thinking silently.
B.Three effective ways to help students learn better.
C.Why students should avoid passive reading.
D.How to set small goals in daily study.

Passage3
(25-26九年级上·广东省深圳市龙华区新华中学教育集团·期中)
Many people believe that a child’s creativity can only be produced in the warmth of a loving and supportive family. However, a study published in June 2025 showed that this is not always the case.
Although it sounds impossible, the study has found that many creative people had difficult childhoods. In fact, many well-known artists developed their special talents because of their difficult childhood experiences. They always used art as a way to stay away from pain, creating imaginary worlds so they could express themselves freely. Famous examples include artistic geniuses like Vincent van Gogh and Franz Kafka. All of them suffered in childhood and went on to develop great artistic talents.
Psychologists explain that there are two main ways creativity develops. One is the positive inspiration (正向激励). When children have caring parents, they learn from their positive behavior and grow confidently. The other is coping creativity. When children feel no one cares about them, they might use drawing, writing, or music to ease themselves.
Interestingly, challenges can actually increase creativity, but not enough caring contributes to worries. Research shows early childhood experiences shape creativity patterns and that some challenge helps shape creativity, but too much challenge harms people’s social skills.
Modern life creates new challenges. With parents working longer hours and greater competition in learning, many children spend more time alone indoors. This leads to problems such as anxiety (焦虑) and poor social skills. To solve these problems, schools can help by offering art and music programs, training teachers to notice creative students and providing advice for children with problems.
The most important lesson is balance (平衡). While challenges can produce creativity, love and support are more important. As one expert says, “Creativity grows best when children feel safe enough to discover but supported enough to take challenges.” Parents and teachers should encourage children’s talents while making sure they feel valued and understood.
1.What does Paragraph 2 tell us about art?
A.It is often loved by children living a difficult life.
B.It helps some children feel less pain and more freedom.
C.It allows children to draw a world without thinking much.
D.It requires children to have creativity and rich imagination.
2.What does the underlined word “ease” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A.Trust. B.Beat. C.Annoy. D.Comfort.
3.What is the relationship between challenges and creativity according to the passage?
A.Challenges only improve social skills, not creativity.
B.The more challenges a child faces, the more creative they will become.
C.Some challenge helps develop creativity, but too much can be harmful.
D.Challenges don’t have connection to the development of creativity at all.
4.How does the writer organize Paragraph 5?
A.By raising a question and then giving it answers.
B.By showing a fact and then proving it with numbers.
C.By giving an opinion and then supporting it with examples.
D.By describing problems and then giving methods of solving them.
5.What does the writer suggest in the passage?
A.Children should be protected and respected.
B.Parents and teachers should be encouraged first.

A blind box keeps what’s inside a secret. Usually, there are toys in blind boxes, but now stores are putting food in them. They are “leftover (剩菜) blind boxes”. Many people in China have fallen in love with it. In each box, the food is nearly past the best-before date.
“We pack products such as milk, bread, cake, and sandwiches in blind boxes, and sell these boxes at half price. For example, a blind box sold in our store costs 15.9 yuan. Inside, there are three kinds of bread that should cost 45 yuan. We usually start to sell blind boxes at 7 p.m. every day,” Wu Tian, who owns a convenience store in Beijing, said.
Some of WeChat’s mini programs also help sell the food. People often check and buy leftover blind boxes on them. It’s reported that one-third of the world’s food is wasted every year, reaching around 1.3 billion tons in 2023. A person may waste about 93 grams of food each meal. “Leftover blind boxes, as a new way of business, have a bright future. Topic: Should Museum Entry Be Free?
With International Museum Day coming up, today we are asking readers: Should museums be free or should people have to pay for a ticket? Let us know your view.
◆Comments:
Abbey
Aged 15, USA
Museums are not just for fun; they also help us learn a lot. That’s why they should be free to enter. Running museums costs a lot of money, but the wealthy can help pay for it. It’s not fair if someone who loves art can’t see it just because they can’t afford the ticket.
comments
Florence
Aged 17, Australia
Museums teach people about their past. This is part of our shared culture that should be available to everyone. Rich or poor people should never be asked to pay an entrance fee.
comments
Kevin
Aged 16, UK
There are no simple answers. Low ticket prices could help museums stay open. But companies and businessmen should also provide museums with more support. They have a social responsibility too.
comments
Lilly
Aged 15, China
I suppose that museums and art galleries should all be free to the public. I do, however, think twice a year the museums should organize money-raising events to help pay for the cost of staying open.
comments
Jerry
Aged 14, France
Free entry might not make people want to visit. Usually, people value things more if they are hard or expensive to get. Museums could ask people who visit often to pay, but give free tickets to students who do well in school and can really appreciate the art.

Passage 4
(25-26九年级上·广东省深圳市福田区红岭集团·期中)
The biggest influence that technology has on family time is the way it changes how families spend time together. People used to spend more time with their family members before. Nowadays, with children (and the parents, too) spending more time texting, playing video games on smart phones, when will the family find time to bond (培养感情) and create lasting memories together?
By the end of a long day at work or school, members of the family want to relax. And now technology use is widespread (普遍的) across the country, normally our “relaxing” is also known as spending time on smart phones.
Not only is the amount of family time affected by technology, but also the quality. Technology can affect the quality in different ways. For example, family members can be distracted (分心的) by their phones while having dinner together.
If “family time” means everyone sitting in the same room while playing online, what value is there? Personal communication is key to time well spent with loved ones. Families don’t even need to have something special to do while together. If they simply ask each other how their day is and simply have a nice dinner together, family bonds will get better.
When technology becomes a focus, quality time for families goes down, which affects everyone’s life. Lack of family communication causes the family’s unity to weaken, and each of the family will be influenced in different ways. Children are more likely to develop unhealthy habits when they fail to communicate with their parents. Meanwhile, parents who put work before family or pay less attention to their children’s growth are more likely to face bad parent-child relationship. Sixty-seven percent of American teens say they want to spend more time with their parents, which is rather sad. Therefore, this passage is meant to show how technology has influenced families badly.

A.makes us put work before family B.affects the quality of family time
C.brings us convenience and happiness D.brings us more development
4.What’s the main idea of Paragraph 4?
A.Simple games are helpful for family bonds. B.Families don’t need to do anything together.
C.Personal communication is important for family time. D.Staying in the same room is necessary for family.
5.What’s the writer’s attitude (态度) towards the influence of technology?

Passage1
(25-26九年级上·广东省深圳市翠园实验学校·期中)
Imagine this picture that astronauts are taking care of tea trees on the Moon. Isn’t it amazing? This might be possible someday. Now, researchers are exploring whether this plant could one day grow out of Earth. The project led by a British University shows that tea plants might grow in lunar soil, making it possible for astronauts to provide food for themselves while living and working on the moon in the future.
Scientists planted tea in special soil that is similar to what is found on the Moon and on Mars. The conditions were carefully controlled, from temperature and wetness to lighting. Over several weeks, the lunar group thrived, performing as well as those grown in Earth soil. However, the plants failed to grow in Martian(火星的) soil.
The ability to grow food on the Moon is important for long-term space tasks. Sending large amounts of food from Earth is expensive and challenging. Growing fresh crops locally would reduce dependence on food sent from the Earth, and also provide more food choices and support astronaut health.
The tea experiment shows that even fragile (容易受伤的) crops, like tea, can grow in lunar soil.Future studies may conduct experiments on different crops such as grains and vegetables, which offer more complete nutrition (营养). If successful, astronauts may finally have balanced diets by using lunar soil.
The research is not only about supporting space travel. This could also be good news for farmers finding it difficult to grow crops in poor soil. Climate change and over-farming have caused soil quality to get worse worldwide. Lessons learned from growing tea in Moon-similar soil may one day offer more practical solutions.

Passage 3
(25-26九年级上·广东省深圳外国语学校·期中)
In the dry deserts in northwest China, something amazing is happening. Land that was once covered in sand and almost lifeless now has rows of shiny black solar panels (太阳能板) stretching as far as the eye can see. These are not just solar panels—they are part of China’s plan to turn deserts into energy factories.
In Inner Mongolia, a project called the Solar Great Wall covers a large area of desert. It aims to produce enough electricity to light up several major cities in eastern China by 2030. But these panels turn out to do more than producing power. The shadow they provide has slowed down water evaporation, allowing plants like grass to grow in the desert. Over the past five years, the area that was 98% sand now has up to 80% plant coverage. This not only stops sandstorms but also creates habitats for animals like goats and birds.
Meanwhile, in the high mountains of Qinghai, herders (牧民) also benefit from solar panels. Standing 1.2 metres high, they act like huge umbrellas. The shadow they provide protects the sheep from the burning heat in summer, while the space under the panels grows fresh grass. This harmonious mixture of traditional herding and modern technology allows herders to sell wool and electricity as well, with many nearly doubling their income.
This success is not just local. Chinese companies are sharing their ideas worldwide. In Argentina, a solar farm built with China’s help now provides power for 100,000 homes and brings in money for local farmers. In Saudi Arabia, plans are in progress to build solar farms in deserts using methods developed in China. Even African nations like Namibia are practicing Chinese solar technology to reduce their dependence on fossil fuels like coal and oil.
From deserts to farms, China’s solar revolution offers a possibility of sustainable (可持续的) development. As the sun sets over the Gobi Desert, the panels continue their quiet work—a reminder that the future of energy might just be written in sunlight and sand.

Passage 1
(25-26九年级上·广东省深圳实验中学·期中)
Think about how much time you spent outside last week. Really “outside”. Walking from the car into the mall doesn’t count.
Now think about how much time you spent indoors—on the Internet or playing video games or watching TV.
You may say, “I play inside more than outside and I like to play games on the computer.”
If so, it’s likely that you spent more time inside four walls than outside in fresh air. Kids today spend two fewer hours per week on sports and outdoor activities than kids did 20 years ago. That’s according to a University of Michigan study. Non-moving activities are more popular. The costs “include overweight, greater stress, higher rates of physical and emotional illness and less joy, …” says Richard Louv, writer of Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children from Nature-Deficit Disorder:
Play is important, even for adults. _________
Outdoor activity betters your senses. The next time you sit down to message your friends, take note of your senses during and after your texting. Then do the same experiment after you’ve done something outside. You will find being outdoors brings the senses to life. “Hiking, exploring, and fishing help hone all of your senses,” says Betsy Keller. She’s a professor of exercise and sports sciences at Ithaca College in New York. “Smell, sight … all of your senses are in use when you’re outside.”
Outdoor play frees your mind. Are you stressed out? Having trouble devoting your mind to what you’re doing? Too much time indoors— away from the natural world—may be a cause. Louv uses a term to describe the set of problems caused by too much time indoors: nature deficit disorder. He says, “I use it to describe the price we pay for being so separated from nature.”
Spending time outdoors brings you closer to the environment. When you’re out, breathe in fresh air, hear the leaves crackle underfoot and search for cool birds and plants in the woods. It can help you feel more connected to the natural world. No woods nearby? Nature can be found right outside your back door or in your local park.
So the next time you sit down to spend quality (高质量的) time with a video game, consider treating yourself to a little outdoor play instead.
1.How does the writer first introduce the topic of outdoor play?

Passage 2
1.Why is it important to grow crops that can get used to climate change?
A.Because it can reduce the cost of growing crops.

Creative vloggers are using AI technology to bring famous people from history “back to life”, like the Tang Dynasty poets Li Bai and Du Fu. These AI-produced videos have become very popular, showing these historical figures speaking in modern language. In one video, Du Fu talks about his experiences, while Ming Dynasty medical expert Li Shizhen jokes about modern life.
“The videos let me learn more about important ancient people, such as Wen Zhengming and Tang Bohu. I didn’t know much about their stories before,” said a netizen (网友). This kind of videos also makes people more excited to learn about history and culture. Another netizen shared her changing feelings in a comment under one of the videos: “I used to be totally uninterested in history, but now I sometimes even go to the library to search for more information when some topics really attract me.”

Many people in cities feel lonely and disconnected from those living around them. But thanks to some creative inventions, communities around the world are becoming warmer and warmer.
One such inventor, Li Ming, has turned this challenge into an opportunity to bring people together.
Li Ming, a 35-year-old engineer from Chengdu, found that neighbors seldom talked to each other. Encouraged by community-building campaigns(社区创建活动), he created a simple digital platform called “neighbor Link”. This easy-to-use app works like an online notice board. People can share skills, organize activities, and ask for help on it. They can also plan events like festival celebrations or skill-sharing classes, and help each other with daily tasks such as looking after pets or picking up packages(快递). In addition, the app is also designed for users of all ages. It has large fonts(字体) and clear icons(图标). People can also use voice to tell it what to do.
In just six months, more than 80% of people in Li Ming’s community have joined the app. Now neighbors often eat together, share their skills, and help those in need. An elderly resident, Grandma Wang, said: “I used to stay home alone every day. Now I’ve found friends to dance with every afternoon!”
Li Ming’s story shows that technology doesn’t need to be complicated(复杂的) to make a difference. When we pay attention to people’s needs and create simple, practical solutions, we can also be creative inventors. True creativity comes from the heart, and everyone has the power to be an inventor in their own community.

C.Children should learn to deal with problems themselves.
D.It’s easy to keep a balance between freedom and guidance.

1.What is the biggest influence that technology has on family time?
A.It brings families closer easily. B.It provides more choices to play together.
C.It changes the way families spend time together. D.It increases the time families spend together.
2.What do members of the family usually do to relax by the end of a day according to Paragraph 2?
A.Eat dinner together. B.Listen to radio programs.
C.Spend time on smart phones. D.Play a board game together.
3.According to Paragraph 3, we can know that technology ________.
A.Agreeable. B.Worried. C.Surprised. D.Satisfied.

1.How does the author introduce the topic?
A.By listing the problems of space travel.
B.By introducing a scientific research project.
C.By describing a picture and asking a question.
D.By comparing Earth and Moon environments.
2.What does the underlined word “thrived” in paragraph 2 probably mean?
A.Became strong and healthy. B.Stopped growing completely.
C.Depended heavily on wetness. D.Needed lighting to stay healthy.
3.Why is growing food on the Moon important for long- term space missions?
A.It offers astronauts much more food choices.
B.Its main purpose is to improve farming on Earth.
C.It can completely end the need for food from Earth.
D.It is difficult and costly to send much food from Earth.
4.What is the future plan for the research according to paragraph 4?
A.To have a cup of tea on the Moon. B.To eat grains and vegetables in space.
C.To prove a balanced diet is important. D.To test more kinds of food crops for space.
5.What is the last paragraph mainly about?
A.A new type of tea has been developed for poor soil.
B.Climate change has made space research more popular.
C.Pollution is the main reason for soil problems on Earth.
D.The research may help solve farming problems on Earth.

1.How does the author introduce the topic?
A.By telling a story. B.By giving a definition. C.By listing numbers. D.By describing a scene.
2.What is the purpose of the Solar Great Wall?

Passage 4
(25-26九年级上·广东省深圳市高级中学·期中)
On April 19, 2025, Beijing held the world’s first half-marathon (21 km) for humanoid robots (人形机器人). This special event showed China’s leading role in robot technology. Twenty robots joined in, but only six finished. The winner, “Tiangong”, was 1.8 meters tall and finished in 2 hours and 40 minutes. Scientists used this race to test how robots work in real places like streets, not only in labs.
Beyond competitions, these robots now solve real problems across China. For example, a power line robot can work in very hot or cold places (-40℃ to 80℃) where humans cannot go safely. Now, robot development is growing fast: over 50 Chinese companies received more than 6 billion yuan in financial support this spring, showing strong confidence in this technology!
Global and Chinese companies are racing to develop robots, but there are still challenges. Both Chinese and global companies like Xpeng, BYD, Tesla, and Huawei are building robots. However, experts say that factory robots for simple tasks may come soon, while it will take many more years for home robots to handle difficult housework.
Robots with wheels move easily, but humanoid robots still find it hard to walk or climb stairs.
A.By showing the results of a recent study.
B.By introducing different kinds of outdoor play.
C.By inviting the reader to think about his or her own case.
D.By telling the reader outdoor play is good for body and mind.
2.According to the passage, what can be one of the results of spending more time indoors?
A.Improving eyesight. B.Reducing stress level.
C.Getting better social skills. D.Increasing risk of physical illness.

A.Just getting outdoors does wonders.
B.Outdoor play helps to build relationships.
C.Nature can remind us of life beyond our worries.
D.The outdoors is the best place to practise physical skills.
4.Which word is closest to the meaning of “hone” in paragraph 6?
A.improve B.limit C.produce D.organize

Passage 1
(25-26九年级上·广东省深圳市福田区红岭集团·期中)
Long ago, in ancient China, there was a story about the invention of silk. People believed that silk was first invented by Leizu, the wife of the Yellow Emperor. Leizu learned how to make cocoons (蚕茧) into soft and strong cloth—silk, and it was called “China’s Gold”. Following kings’ orders, the Chinese kept the secret of making silk for centuries.
But something amazing happened. During the Han Dynasty, the brave officer Zhang Qian travelled west as far as Central Asia and brought silk there. As years passed, silk became so important that the trade road from China to Europe got its name—the Silk Road.
From China, people sold silk and tea. In return, they received treasures such as spices (香料), gold and silver from the West. At the very beginning, it was mainly about trade; then people began to share ideas, technologies and cultures. For example, Chinese inventions like paper-making were spread to the West, while new ideas about math and science came to China.
Most importantly, the Silk Road helped different cultures learn from each other. Art, music and even language were shared along this ancient road. In places like the Dunhuang Grottoes (敦煌石窟) in China, you can see how art pieces combined Eastern and Western styles into something distinctive. It cannot be seen anywhere else.
The story of the Silk Road tells us how people from faraway lands could become friends through trade and shared ideas. Passage 1
(25-26九年级上·广东省深圳市多校联考·期中)
From March to November each year, Huang Yahui and her team live outdoors, carrying cameras and notebooks. They travel through forests, mountains, and highlands in Xinjiang to do research.
Huang’s love for nature began as a child, and her passion (热情) for butterflies grew as she got older. In 2011, she joined a research team led by Professor Ma Ming from the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography as a volunteer. Huang spent several months working with the team, doing fieldwork and focusing on bird protection, which started her interest in environmental protection.
She is now a co-founder of a nature protection center in Urumqi. The center’s goal is to raise people’s environmental awareness and protect wildlife.

Passage 2
(25-26九年级上·广东省深圳外国语学校·期中)
For centuries, sailors have told amazing stories of “milky seas”. Imagine sailing at night when suddenly the entire ocean turns bright white. It produces a steady light and glows like a field of heavy snow. It is so large that it can be seen even from space! Sailors also report that the ocean becomes strangely calm during these events.
For a long time, it was a mystery between myth and science. It is so rare that there is only one known photograph of it, taken in 2019. Now, by creating a database from old sailor reports and modern satellite pictures, scientists have become detectives and managed to study the situation.
Scientists believe the primary source of the light is billions of tiny bacteria in the water. This is different from the quick and sudden bright light of plankton (浮游生物). According to their study, the glowing bacteria might live with a type of algae (藻类) that creates calming slime (黏液) on the surface of water.
Their detective work also discovered other fascinating details. For example, milky seas are not just small patches of light. They can be very huge, sometimes covering an area larger than a state. Besides, their appearance may be connected to climate patterns like La Niña, which bring nutrient-rich waters to the surface, feeding the bacteria.
Yet, for all its beauty, this impressive scene might hold a darker meaning. The bacteria thought to cause milky seas is also a known “killer” of some fish. As the scientists note, if these milky seas become more common, it could be a very clear warning sign from the ocean itself.
1.What is the ocean like when there is a milky sea?
A.The water suddenly becomes cooler. B.The water is unusually thick and still.
C.The water changes into ice overnight. D.The water becomes very clear quickly.

3.Where does the light in a milky sea come from?
A.Calming slime. B.Glowing algae. C.Glowing bacteria. D.Shining plankton.
4.What is this article mainly about?
A.A mysterious event in the ocean. B.A discovery of deep-sea creatures.
C.A situation causing climate change. D.Sea pollution resulting from sailing.
5.In which column can you read the article?
A.Food and health. B.Travel and adventure.
C.Legends and myths. D.Science and technology.
Passage 3
(25-26九年级上·广东省深圳市福田区耀华实验学校·期中)
Some animals can easily find their way home after a long journey. How do they make it? Scientific research shows that they are born with certain unusual abilities for direction.
A certain kind of ants, for example, can count their steps to stop themselves from getting lost. They can go as far as 110 metres and bring food home. These ants live in the open desert, so they have nothing to guide them along the way. It’s like someone walking six kilometres through a dark forest.
Some fish have an unbelievable sense of smell. They can smell even a single drop of their home water in a large sea area. Some sea birds have a similar ability. They are able to make a smell map of their flying area.
Some animals can sense the earth’s magnetic field (磁场), while humans can’t. This magnetic field guides a certain kind of fish when they swim a long way to a place and then back. How can this kind of fish do that? It is still a mystery. Scientists have no good answers yet.
However, animals with such unusual abilities still have difficulty dealing with environmental changes caused by human activities. For example, many birds depend on stars for direction, but they get lost easily at night when city lights are kept on all night. To solve this problem, we can simply turn off some lights at night. Clearly, one small act of humans may mean a lot to animals.
1.How can a certain kind of ants find their way?
A.By imagining the way. B.By counting their steps.
C.By bringing food together. D.By walking through a forest.
2.What helps some fish return home in the sea?
A.Their ability to smell. B.Their sense of the earth.
C.Their maps of flying area. D.Their direction from stars.
3.What does the underlined word “mystery” in paragraph 4 mean?
A.Something important to learn. B.Something easy to understand.
C.Something difficult to explain. D.Something interesting to study.
4.Which of the following best shows the structure of the text?
A.①/②/③④⑤ B.①②/③④/⑤ C.①②③/④/⑤ D.①/②③④/⑤
5.Where is this passage most probably from?
A.A story book. B.An art magazine. C.A travel guide. D.A science magazine.
Passage 4
(25-26九年级上·广东省深圳市观澜二中教育集团·期中)
Every year, millions of migratory birds (候鸟) fly long distances across the world, overcoming difficulties like storms and hunger to complete their journey. These birds are not only beautiful but also play a key role in nature, such as controlling insect populations and connecting different habitats (栖息地) around the world. However, a 2024 report by the IUCN (国际自然保护联盟) shows that 30% of migratory bird species have gone down in number, and 15% are endangered.
Migratory birds today face serious problems. Climate change is affecting their migration routes (迁移路线) and resting places. For example, Arctic terns (北极燕鸥) fly from the north to the south of the Earth every year, but now ice melts earlier. They have less time to raise their young babies. At the same time, the wetlands, places for them to rest and eat during their journey, are being changed to cities and farms.
Illegal hunting is another danger. In some areas, birds are caught for their feathers, meat, or to be sold as pets. In 2023, a large illegal hunting group in Southeast Asia was found to have killed more than 10,000 migratory birds in just half a year.
Thankfully, people around the world are acting to protect these birds. The “Wings of Hope” campaign started in 2024 to encourage all people and organizations to protect migratory birds. Volunteers have built man-made wetlands and feeding stations along migration routes. In China, local groups run “bird watching stations” to watch over the birds. Scientists also use GPS trackers (追踪器) to study their migration routes in order to protect their habitats.
All living creatures share the same Earth. Migratory birds remind us how beautiful and fragile (脆弱的) our planet is. Protecting them is not just about saving birds; it is about keeping the Earth healthy for our children.
1.How does the writer introduce the topic in Paragraph 1?
A.By using a famous saying. B.By asking questions.
C.By presenting numbers. D.By showing opinions.
2.What problem do Arctic terns face because of climate change?
A.They only have places for resting.
B.They don’t have more time to raise their young babies.
C.Their GPS trackers often stop working in cold areas.
D.They are easily caught by illegal hunters.
3.Why are migratory birds caught in some areas?
A.To protect them from natural enemies.
B.To study their migration routes.
C.To increase their population in local areas.
D.For their meat, feathers, or to be sold as pets.
4.What is the structure of the passage?
A.①/②③④/⑤ B.①②③④/⑤ C.①/②③/④/⑤ D.①②/③④/⑤

Passage 5
(25-26九年级上·广东省深圳市多校联考·期中)
Orchids (兰花) are a large family of flowering plants. A book introducing the city’s 96 species (物种) of wild orchids was published by Shenzhen Orchid Conservation and Research Centre at the beginning of 2021. The researchers in the centre spent two years finishing and publishing the book.
Shenzhen started recording species of wild orchids in 1983. Information and pictures of the 96 species discovered in the city were all included in the book. Several of the valuable pictures were provided by local plant lovers.
Chen Jianbing, director of the city’s orchid conservation and research centre, said that the book reflects the situation of wild orchids to some degree in the region. He said the book was a good example of the city’s improvement in environmental protection, adding that it was important for protecting and researching wild orchids.
Orchids are of high value for medicine, food and decoration. The plants are considered as the “panda of the plant field” in China but illegal harvesting and pollution to the environment in recent years have influenced the growth of wild orchids.
There are orchids growing in greenhouses and orchids growing in the wild. The former look the same in size and appearance but the latter are much cheaper. For most people, they prefer to buy more affordable ones. However, it’s illegal to sell or buy wild orchids.
By publishing the book, the centre plans to improve the protection of orchids and spread the knowledge of the flowers to people so as to encourage them to pay more attention to wild orchids.
