Do you ever feel like your study habits just don’t work? Do you wonder what you could do to do better in class or in exams? Then maybe you need to study smarter, not harder. Here are some useful tips for you.
Reading is not studying. Simply reading texts or notes can’t help us understand knowledge deeply. Real studying is making meaning from the text. This includes making connections to lessons, giving examples and planning your own learning. All of the work will help you to really study for your lessons.
It’s good to be intensive (集中的). You will achieve more if you study intensively.Intensive study times are short and allow you to get work done fast. Shorter, intensive study times are more useful than drawn-out studying. In fact, one of the best study methods is to break up your study time into different parts. Intensive study times can last 30 or 45 minutes. And then take a break. This way, you will better remember the information.
Silence isn’t always golden. Know where you study the best. The library may not be the best place for you. It’s important to consider what environment works the best for you. You might find that you focus better with some sound. Some people find that listening to classical music while studying helps them study, while others find this is bad for them. The point is that the silence of the library may be just as bad as (or worse than) the noise of a sports centre.
16.Why does the writer ask two questions in Paragraph 1?
A.To compare different study habits.
B.To introduce the topic of the passage.
C.To help find out your learning problems.
D.To make the readers interested in the topic.
17.What’s real studying from the passage?
A.Planning study time. B.Reading notes again.
C.Reading texts simply. D.Making meaning from texts.
18.What does the underlined word “drawn-out” in Paragraph 3 probably mean?
A.Long. B.Easy. C.Fast. D.Active.
19.What is the writer’s opinion on studying in silence?
A.It doesn’t help focus. B.It stops students focusing.
C.It works the best for study. D.It may not be fit for everyone.
20.Where may the passage come from?
A.A student guidebook. B.A teacher’s lesson plan.
C.A blog about exam answers. D.A book on time management.
【答案】16.B 17.D 18.A 19.D 20.A
【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了如何让学习更高效的一些技巧,包括区分阅读与真正的学习、集中精力学习的重要性以及选择合适的学习环境。
【详解】16.原文第一段提出两个问题后紧接着说明“Then maybe you need to study smarter, not harder. Here are some useful tips for you.”,作者用开篇的两个日常学习相关的问题引出后文要介绍的“巧学习”的实用建议,核心作用是引出全文的主题。
17.原文第二段明确给出定义“Real studying is making meaning from the text.(真正的学习是从课文中找出意义)”,“Making meaning from texts”符合题意。
18.原文第三段提到“Shorter, intensive study times are more useful than drawn-out studying.”,前半句指出“短时间的集中学习”效果更好,用than形成对比逻辑,和“短的”相对的含义就是“漫长持久的”,因此drawn-out的词义和“Long”相符。
19.原文第四段开篇就提出“Silence isn’t always golden. Know where you study the best.”,后续进一步说明“The point is that the silence of the library may be just as bad as ( or worse than) the noise of a sports centre.”,可见作者认为安静的学习环境并不一定适合所有人,适合的学习环境是因人而异的。

“How were things going today, Zhao Min?” Mum asked me.
“Terrible. Wang Xinyue got the role of Mulan at last,” I said.
“Then what role did you get?” Mum added.
“None,” I whispered. I ran to my bedroom and started drawing in my sketchbook (素描簿). Drawing always makes me feel better.
The next day, Wang Xinyue was cheerful. But when the last bell rang, her mood changed. She was so nervous that she asked me to practice with her in the school hall. I wanted to say no. Then I realized I couldn’t leave yet. My parents had signed me up (报名) for the late bus, because I thought I would be in the play.
In the hall, Ms Wu, director of the play, handed out copies of the script to all the actors. I sat in the third row, wishing I were in my bedroom drawing. Ms Wu pulled a cardboard onto the middle of the stage. It was brown with small hills and old city walls. Then the play started. Wang Xinyue acted so well that everybody cheered for her. I had to say that she was really suitable for the role of Mulan.
“When will we get the real sets (布景)?” Wang Xinyue pointed to the cardboard.
“These are the real sets,” Ms Wu said. “We don’t have an art teacher this year. So that’s the best we could do.”
Wang Xinyue and I walked outside.
“You were great,” I said. “Everyone will love the play.”
“Thanks,” Wang Xinyue said. “But did you see the sets?”
I thought for a moment. “Maybe I can help.”
I spent that evening drawing. The next morning, I put my sketchbook into my backpack and ran to the bus.
Time seemed to go more slowly. Finally, the last bell rang. I rushed to Ms Wu’s office and showed her my ideas. After seeing my ideas, she talked to some other teachers. They liked my ideas too. Over the next weeks, a corner of the lunchroom was filled with cardboard and paints. And lots of students were working on the sets.
Finally, the opening night arrived. I sat next to Mum and Dad in the hall. When the curtain (幕布) rose, a piece of amazing cardboard appeared, on which was a huge land with rolling hills, well-trained soldiers and running horses. The play began. Wang Xinyue was a wonderful Mulan, and everyone clapped (鼓掌) when the play was over.
Then Ms Wu called me up to the stage. She said into the microphone, “I’d like to thank the students who painted the sets. And special thanks to Zhao Min, who designed them. Her effort and talent made tonight extra special.”
Everyone clapped. For me, I did get a part in the play after all. And it was just as good as being Mulan.

So that’s the best we could do.” Wang Xinyue and I walked outside. “You were great,” I said. “Everyone will love the play.” “Thanks,” Wang Xinyue said. “But did you see the sets?” I thought for a moment. “Maybe I can help.” I spent that evening drawing.
