Today, new technology (科技) is helping protect pandas and give them better care. Here are some cool examples.
Checking with an app
Can you tell the differences between pandas Hua Hua and Fu Bao? A special app can! You just send in a photo. The app looks at the panda’s ears and the black-and-white face markings. It also checks their body shape and the way they move. This is even harder than knowing human faces!
Real-time monitoring (实时监控)
Scientists collect panda waste to get DNA from it. The DNA shows whether the panda is a male or female, where it lives and how many pandas there are. With this, each wild panda gets its own “passport” (通行证).
Giving wild pandas an ID
Special sun-powered cameras can watch pandas day and night. The system sends live video and can also tell apart (区分) other animals. This helps scientists protect pandas and their forest friends.

An Adventure in the Forest
(Adapted from “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” by Mark Twain)
Tom Sawyer and his friend Huck Finn decided to explore a dark forest near the Mississippi River. They wanted to find a hidden treasure (宝藏) that pirates (海盗) had buried many years ago.
Early in the morning, they packed some bread, cheese, and a bottle of water. They also took a small axe (斧头) and a rope. Tom said, “We must mark our path (路) so we don’t get lost.” Huck agreed, and they tied pieces of white cloth to the trees as they walked deeper into the woods.
After walking for two hours, they arrived at an old, empty wooden house. Vines (藤蔓) covered the walls, and the windows were broken. Inside, the floor was dirty and full of dead leaves. Suddenly, they heard a low, strange noise coming from the basement (地下室). Huck’s face turned pale. “It might be a ghost!” he whispered. But Tom, although a little scared, held his breath and moved slowly toward the sound.
To their surprise, it was just a wild cat looking for food. Huck laughed at his own fear. “I am not afraid of anything,” he said, trying to sound brave. They searched the whole house carefully but found no treasure. Then, they sat down to eat their lunch.
As the sun began to set, the forest became very quiet and shadows (影子) grew long. Tom looked at the sky and said, “We must leave now, or we will be trapped (困住) here in the dark.” They followed the white cloth marks back. When they finally saw the lights of the town, they felt very happy and safe. On the way home, Huck said, “Even without treasure, today was a real adventure!”

根据短文内容,完成下列各题。
①Nobody wants to lose, but we must accept that losing is a part of life. After all, we can’t win all the time. However, we can learn some valuable lessons from every failure (失败). This may help us succeed in the future. So we must know how to be a good loser.
②We must not be afraid of losing. When we lose, just take it with a smile and look on the bright side of it. We can’t avoid failure in our life. Edison failed 10,000 times before he invented the light bulb (灯泡). When he was asked how he felt, he said that he hadn’t failed 10,000 times but had learned 10,000 things which didn’t work. We must know that history is full of examples of men and women who achieved success although they failed many times.
③Losing is not very disgraceful (丢脸的). We must accept our failure and learn from it. Remember that it can be helpful. Take action to walk out of it. When we lose, think about what we did and how we can improve. If someone else can help, we’ll be lucky enough. Maybe he or she has been through the same experience before. Many people enjoy helping others solve problems. This can save us a lot of time in learning how to avoid the same mistakes in the future.
④We should face our failure when we lose. There is only one winner in every competition. Some win, while some lose. That is a usual way of life. If we offer the winners our congratulations and share in their happiness, we won’t feel sorry for our failure.
⑤In a word, being a good loser will help us to succeed in life. It might be painful at the beginning, but there are many advantages. Good losers set examples to us, and most importantly, they finally win.
32. What can we learn from every failure according to the text?
________________
33. 从文章中找一个与“Failure is around us, we can’t get away from it.”意思相近的句子。

During the following classes, the teacher asked the students to run 1,000 metres, and then climb with a rope. When Leo finished running, he got bored and he even did not want to touch the rope. He thought it was less interesting than before. The teacher noticed that and asked him, “Why do you want to take rock climbing lessons?” “I come for fun, of course.” “Is that fun?” he asked.
28. What did Tom and Huck take with them for the exploration?
A. Bread, cheese, water, an axe, and a rope.
B. A map, a compass, and some gold coins.
C. Only some food and a bottle of water.
29. Which of the following words best describes Tom?
A. Careless and lazy. B. Rude and selfish. C. Brave and careful.

A. Tom and Huck got lost in the forest and couldn’t find the way home.
B. They found the hidden treasure in the basement of the house.
C. The boys felt the adventure was valuable even though they found no treasure.
31. What is the correct order of the story?

b. They packed food and tools and entered the forest.
c. They followed the cloth marks to go back home safely.
d. They discovered the noise came from a wild cat.

34. Use a word to describe the influence of failure on our growth.
