五、阅读理解
The internet was once praised as the great equalizer(平衡器) — a borderless library that would deliver knowledge to every corner of the planet. Two decades on, that promise has been only partly kept. Billions now carry the world’s information in their pockets, yet a growing body of research suggests our deepening reliance on digital connection is quietly reshaping not just the quantity but the quality of human relationships.
The paradox(悖论)of “connection” is instructive. Social media lets us maintain hundreds of weak ties at almost no cost, but studies consistently find that heavy users report higher levels of loneliness than before. Psychologists explain that scrolling through the polished highlights of others' lives invites constant social comparison, which slowly erodes self-worth rather than building close relationship. Meanwhile, the ease of texting has not produced deeper conversation; many adolescents admit feeling uneasy during the face-to-face silences that once gave birth to real empathy.
None of this argues for abandoning the internet. It argues, rather, for using it on purpose. In several countries, schools have begun to teach “digital literacy” not merely as a technical skill but as a kind of emotional education — training students to tell the difference between performing for an audience and genuinely relating to a friend. Early findings suggest that those who set boundaries around screen time enjoy richer offline lives and, perhaps surprisingly, more authentic online ones.
The harder task ahead is less about access than about attention. As algorithms(算法) grow more skilled at capturing it, the rare resource of the digital age may not be information at all, but the calm, undistracted presence we offer one another. Whether technology serves us or we serve it will depend on choices we are only starting to make.
1.What is the text mainly about?
A.The technical history and development of the internet.
B.How social media helps teenagers build true friendships.
C.The mixed impact of digital connection on human relationships.
D.Why face-to-face communication is no longer necessary.
2.What does the underlined word “erodes” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A.Improves gradually. B.Destroys slowly.
C.Measures exactly. D.Replaces completely.
3.What can we infer from Paragraph 3?
A.Digital-literacy education has completely solved the loneliness problem.
B.Students should be forbidden from using social media at school.
C.Setting limits on screen time may improve both online and offline relationships.
D.Performing for an audience is more valuable than relating to a friend.
4.What is the main purpose of the last paragraph?
A.To introduce a new social media application to readers.
B.To stress that attention, not access, is the real challenge and call for wise choices.
C.To list all the disadvantages of recommendation algorithms.
D.To predict that the internet will disappear in the near future.
六、语法填空
1 (deny) that the Internet has reshaped students' daily lives would be pointless. Used wisely, it opens doors that were once closed to teenagers in remote villages. My cousin Lisa, 2 whom online courses meant a chance to learn, improved her English so rapidly that her teacher doubted whether she 3 (employ) a private tutor. What impressed her most was not the convenience itself but the fact 4 a foreign teacher could correct her pronunciation whenever she logged on.
Yet convenience, 5 attractive it may seem, never comes for free. Last month a friend of 6 (I) nearly lost her savings to a fake message imitating her bank. 7 (expose) to so much unchecked information, we are more likely than ever to be misled. It is not until we learn to question what we read 8 we can truly benefit from the digital world.
Fortunately, help is never far away. Members of our class group take turns to check the 9 (rely) of what is shared online. As for Lisa, she now studies 10 (happy) than before, and she does so far more wisely.
