Since 2008, April 2nd has been World Autism Awareness Day (世界提高自闭症意识日). The purpose of the day is to raise public awareness of the people living with autism around the world. With this in mind, I want to tell the story of my brother.
In 2004, my mother tried to calmly tell us that our little brother, Fewa, had autism. When my sisters asked questions, all I could do was think about what this would mean to me. But I soon stopped thinking only about myself, and Fewa quickly became the centre of our family.
Looking after Fewa wasn’t easy. My mother spent hours helping him with simple tasks like brushing teeth, getting dressed, and having lunch. Though she was tired, she never stopped doing what a parent should do.
Every day, I see Fewa becoming more independent. He doesn’t need pity. He’s the kindest and most caring person I’ve ever known. I don’t see his autism as a bad thing. It’s part of who he is, and it makes him special.
Of course, I worry about the future. Fewa will always need help. My parents won’t be here forever, so my sisters and I need to look after him. But Fewa is never a burden (负担). He has taught me patience, love and responsibility. Because of him, I’ve become a better person.
On this Autism Awareness Day, I hope more people will understand and accept those with autism.
19. How did the writer feel at first when learning about Fewa’s condition?
A. She felt calm about it. B. She felt sad for Fewa.
C. She felt sorry for her mother. D. She felt worried about herself.
20. What does the writer probably think of her mother?
A. Quiet and shy. B. Brave but careless.

C. Fewa’s hope for the future. D. Fewa’s good progress.

C. To call for acceptance of people with autism.
D. To explain how to look after children with autism.

As the weather gets hot, many people think of turning on the air conditioner (空调) first. However, using electric fans might be a better choice. New research suggests a “fan-first” cooling rule: use electric fans as your main cooling way and only turn on the air conditioner when the indoor temperature rises above 27℃.
Air conditioners are becoming more popular around the world. However, they are expensive to buy and use, and they let out heat into the outdoor environment, making cities even hotter. Also, if you use air conditioners too much, you might lose the ability to deal with heat, which is unhealthy.
On the other hand, electric fans work by moving air around your body, making you feel up to 4℃ cooler—even in hot weather. Some people think electric fans should be turned off when it’s hotter than 35℃ because they blow hot air. But this idea misses how fans help cool us by drying sweat.
Following the “fan-first” rule allows us to set the air conditioners at a higher temperature, from 23-24℃ to 27-28℃. This not only makes us feel more comfortable but also saves energy. Besides, we can easily move fans to different parts of the house to cool ourselves instead of cooling the whole space.
Studies also show that electric fans can be safely used in indoor temperatures up to 39℃ for young, healthy adults and 38℃ for older adults. Above these temperatures, fans might make people feel worse. In such situations, ways such as wetting the skin (皮肤), moving to a cooler place, or turning on the air conditioner are useful.
23. What does this research advise us to do?
A. To use electric fans first.
B. Not to use the air conditioner.
C. To keep the indoor temperature below 27℃.
D. Not to keep the air conditioner always on.
24. What do we know about electric fans?
① They can cool a room by up to 4℃. ② They help cool us by drying sweat.
③ They help to use less energy. ④ They can cool the whole place.
A. ①② B. ①④ C. ②③ D. ③④
25. Which is right when the indoor temperature reaches 39℃?
A. Young adults feel worse than older adults.
B. Young adults must move to a cooler place.
C. Older adults can use the electric fan safely.
D. Older adults should turn on air conditioners.
26. What is the best title for the passage?
A. How to keep safe in hot summer. B. The “fan-first” cooling rule.
C. Differences between fans and air conditioner. D. Ways to save energy at home.
【答案】23. A 24. C 25. D 26. B

For many people with diabetes (糖尿病), checking blood sugar is a necessary part of their everyday life. In the past, people needed to draw a little blood to check their sugar levels. This traditional way is not only painful but also brings much trouble. It makes people feel uncomfortable, especially when they need to test many times a day.
Now, new technology has brought a great change. Scientists have invented a new smart ring to help these people. The ring is easy to wear and much more comfortable than the old testing ways. It uses special tools on the ring to collect small drops of sweat from people’s skin. Then it studies the sweat and follows the changes of the body.
With this smart ring, people can know their blood sugar levels at any time. They no longer need to test blood again and again. They can watch their health condition more simply and conveniently. This new invention greatly improves the way people manage diabetes. It makes health checks easier and reduces the pain from traditional tests.
Better health monitoring (监测) helps patients take better care of themselves. They can know their body clearly and make better decisions about their daily habits and lifestyles. Although the smart ring still needs some improvement, it shows how modern technology can make medical care simpler and warmer. In the future, more wearable smart devices will come out and help more people live healthier and better lives.

C. Strict but funny. D. Patient and strong.

A. Her worries and personal growth. B. Her opinions on Fewa’s autism.
C. Fewa’s hope for the future. D. Fewa’s good progress.
22. What’s the writer’s purpose in writing the passage?
A. To show her love for her family.
B. To provide medical facts about autism.
