(25-26八上·江苏省宿迁市南京师范大学附属中学·期中)“Merry Christmas, Mother!” they cried.
“Merry Christmas, little daughters!” Mrs March said in her happy voice. She hugged (拥抱) them, but she suddenly became very serious (严肃的).
“Come and sit down, girls. I want to say something before we start breakfast.”
They all sat down at the breakfast table and Mrs March continued (继续说).
“I went to see a poor woman this morning. Her name is Mrs Hummel. She lives near here in one room with her seven children. One of them is only a baby. They are cold and hungry because they don’t have a fire or any food. The oldest boy came to ask me for help. Girls, can we give them our breakfast as a Christmas present?”
The sisters looked at the good food on the table. They were all hungry. For a minute, nobody spoke. Then Jo said, “I’m so glad you came back before we started eating, Mum!”
Meg put the bread on a big plate without saying anything.
“Can I help carry the things to the poor children?” asked Beth.
“I want to take the cream and muffins (松饼),” said Amy. They were her favourite things.
Mrs March smiled.
“Let’s all go together,” she said.
The girls and Hannah put on their hats and cloaks (披风) and went out into the snowy street.
They were shocked (吃惊的) when they saw the Hummels’ room. The window was broken and there was no fire. It was very cold. Mrs Hummel, the baby and a group of pale (苍白的) children were trying to keep warm under one old blanket. Mrs Hummel cried with joy.
Hannah made a fire and put her own cloak over the broken window. The girls put the food on the table and soon the children were eating it hungrily.
Mrs March gave the mother some hot soup and dressed the little baby.
“Angels (天使)! You’re angels!” Mrs Hummel called to them as they left.
That Christmas morning, the girls had bread and milk for breakfast but they weren’t sad.
“I’m glad that we helped those poor people,” said Meg. “It was the right thing to do.”

How much electricity (电) does your fridge use? Very soon, fridges in China will use less electricity and have more space for food. This will happen because of new rules starting on June 1, 2026.
To see how much electricity a fridge uses, look for the China Energy Label (CEL,中国能效标识). It is a blue-and-white sticker (贴纸) on the front of the fridge. This label was first introduced in 2005. It shows levels from class 1 to class 5. Class 1 is the best. Many machines, like TVs and washing machines, also have this label to help people choose wisely.
The new rules are stricter. For example, before, a 500-liter (升) fridge could be class 1 if it used 0.92 kilowatt-hours (kWh) each day. Under the new rules, it must use no more than 0.55 kWh. This can save about 135 kWh of electricity in a year and about 68 yuan. Since our country sells 60 million refrigerators each year, this means China can save 13 billion kWh in electricity.
Fridge size also matters in the new rules. Expert Cheng Jianhong said fridge makers must give 10 to 30 percent more space inside. They can do this by using new technology.
The government also gives money back if people buy energy-efficient fridges. For class 1 fridges, buyers can get 2,000 yuan back. For class 2 fridges, they get 1,500 yuan back, according to media reports.

D. Use of electricity and fridge size
3.If a class 1 energy-efficient fridge is 8,999 yuan, you will just pay ________ yuan.
A. 8,099 B. 7,499 C. 7,099 D. 6,999
4.What is the text?
A. A news report.
B. A reading plan.
C. A science story.
D. A book introduction.

Passage 1
(25-26八上·江苏无锡经开·期中)One night, John came into the stable (马厩), calling, “Wake up, Beauty!”
He put my saddle and bridle on and rode up to the front door of the house. The Squire was there.
“John,” he said, “Mrs Gordon is very ill. Mrs Gordon is very ill. Ride to fetch the doctor and give him this note.”
“Now, Beauty, do your best,” said John. I went as fast as possible.
When we arrived at Dr White’s house, John told him, “Mrs Gordon is very ill. Squire Gordon thinks she is going to die. Please go to her immediately.” “Yes,” said the doctor, “but my son has my horse. Can I have yours?” he asked.
The doctor was heavier than John, and not such a good rider. But I did my very best and went as fast as possible. When we got to Birtwick Park, Squire Gordon was at the door. The doctor went into the house with him, and Joe led me to the stable. I was glad to be home. My legs were shaking, and I was very wet. Joe was young and he forgot to put a warm blanket on me. Then he gave me cold water to drink. Soon all my body began to shake, and I felt very cold. A long time later John came back. He covered me with two or three warm blankets (毯子), and ran to the house for some hot water. He gave me some warm food, and then I think I went to sleep.
Over and over again, John said to himself, “Stupid boy! Stupid boy!”
I was now very sick, and John was looking after me night and day. The Squire came to see me. “Poor Beauty,” he said one day. “You saved Mrs Gordon’s life.”
John said, “Black Beauty went so fast, he seemed to know what was wrong.”
But after that I was ill for a long time, and I thought I was going to die. One night Thomas Green, Joe’s father, came in to help John.
He told John, “Joe is very sorry for Black Beauty. He knows it was all his fault. He is young, he is not a bad boy.”
John said slowly, “I know he’s not a bad boy. But you see, that horse is very special to us all. But don’t worry, I think Beauty is going to get better.”
And sure enough, in the morning I was much better.

Passage 2
(25-26八上·江苏常州第二十四中学·11月·期中)One day, I was caught in a storm and my ship hit a rock and then broken. I was washed to the beach by sea waves. I walked and walked to find a city, but I was too tired and fell asleep. When I woke up, I found myself in Lilliput (小人国) and a lot of tiny (极小的) people were around me. The King spoke in a high voice but I couldn’t hear all the words clearly. His followers and all the ladies wore rich and beautiful clothes. The ground where they were standing looked like gold and silver cloth.
The King and I often spoke to each other but neither (两者都不) of us understood a single word. I tried words from many languages—Dutch, French, Spanish, Italian and Latin. No one could understand my words, not even the cleverest of the King’s followers.
After about two hours, the King left. His wife, children and their servants also went. There were strong guards (警卫) around me. This was to stop the crowd of people from hurting me.
An officer told the guards to hold six men who made me angry. These men were given to me and I had to choose their punishment (惩罚). I put five of them in my pocket. Then I pretended (假装) to eat the sixth man.
The poor man shouted terribly. The guards were worried when they saw my knife in my hand. Was I going to cut up the man? But I only cut the binding (捆绑物) round his hands. Then I put him on his feet and let him go. I lifted the other five men out of my pocket and put them gently on the ground too.
The people and the soldiers (士兵) were very happy with my great kindness. They told the King about it at once. The King ordered his men to make a bed for me and they had to join six hundred of their little beds together to make one bed for me.
At the same time, the King asked all his advisers for their advice on how to deal with me. They were very worried. If my binding was cut, I might be dangerous. I was eating so much food that soon all the people would be very hungry. The farmers could not grow enough food to feed all of us.
The wise men thought that they should kill me. But they would not be able to bury (埋葬) me. My dead body would smell. This might cause (导致) much illness all over the country.

“Listen, my friends,” Long John Silver said quietly. “Tomorrow morning, when we reach the island (岛屿), we will take the treasure and kill anyone who tries to stop us.”
“But what about the boy and the other gentlemen on this ship?” asked one of the pirates nervously.
“Ha!” Silver said angrily. “They don’t know our real plans. Once we find where the treasure is, they will be useless to us.”
Jim felt very scared because he knew how dangerous they were. These men, in fact, were bad sailors and were planning to kill them.
“What if they find out our plan too early?” another pirate asked worriedly.
“Then we will have to act (行动) quickly,” Silver answered coldly. “I have killed many people. A young boy and a few gentlemen are no real danger to skilled pirates like us.”
“Yes, Captain Silver,” the men said together excitedly.
Jim knew he must tell his friends about it right away. Quietly, he began to move away from his hiding place, but suddenly his foot hit a wooden board and made a loud noise.
“What was that?” Silver asked sharply (尖声地), looking around the dark places.
“Maybe just the ship moving,” one pirate said.

(25-26八上·江苏南通·期中)Grown-ups (成年人) never understand anything on their own, and it is tiring for children to be always and forever explaining things to them. So then I chose another job and learned to fly airplanes. I lived my life alone, without anyone that I could really talk to, until I had an accident (事故) with my plane in the desert of Sahara six years ago. Something was wrong with my plane. As I had nobody else with me, I decided to try the difficult repairs all alone.
The first night, I went to sleep on the sand, a thousand miles from humans’ living places. I felt quite lonely. You can imagine my surprise, at sunrise, when I was awakened by a strange little voice. It said, “If you please, draw me a sheep!”
“What?” I shouted, jumping to my feet, completely surprised. I looked carefully all around me. I saw a most special small person, who stood there, looking at me seriously. He was hardly taller than a rosebush.
Before I could speak, he repeated, “Draw me a sheep!”
I had never drawn a sheep before, but I was so surprised and lonely that I did as he asked. I drew a simple sheep, but he shook (摇动) his head, “No, that one is sickly. Make another.” I tried again, but he said, “This one has too many horns (角). It’s not what I want.” I drew a third, and a fourth, until I grew tired. “I don’t know how to draw sheep any more,” I said, handing him a piece of paper with nothing on it. “Here’s a box. The sheep you want is inside it.”
To my surprise, his face lit up, “That’s just what I need! Does it eat a lot of grass?”
“Of course. Why do you ask?”
“Because where I live, everything is very small. I need a sheep that won’t eat up all my roses.”
Roses. The word made me think of the time I was six years old. I found a book named True Stories from Nature, and there was a picture of a huge snake swallowing (吞咽) an elephant. I showed it to grown-ups and asked if it made them scared. They said, “Why would a hat make us scared?” I explained (解释) it wasn’t a hat—it was a huge snake with an elephant inside. But they told me to stop talking about snakes and elephants. They said I should focus on my spelling and arithmetic (算术). That’s when I realized grown-ups never see the true meaning of things. I put away my drawing and decided not to explain anything to them any more.
The little prince pulled me back to the present, “Will you promise (承诺) the sheep won’t eat my roses?”
“I promise,” I said. And in that moment, I knew I had finally found someone I could talk to.

Passage 1
(25-26八上·江苏徐州·期中)Albert Einstein once said, “I have no special gifts. I am only very curious.” The greatest inventions in history would be impossible without curiosity.
Curiosity can make people brave. Just look at Wan Hu, the Ming Dynasty pioneer (先驱) of space exploration. He was so curious about space that he invented a “flying chair”! He lost his life while testing this invention. He failed, but his curiosity gave future explorers ideas. People learnt from his example, and created safer ways to explore space.
But curiosity is more than just taking risks (危险). It also drives people towards certain goals. Zhang Heng, a Chinese scientist and inventor, was curious about the world: how did everything in the world move? He spent years studying the sky and the earth. Finally, he drew China’s first star map, and invented the first earthquake detector (探测器). His curiosity continues to influence scientists today.
As Jacques Cousteau said, “What is a scientist after all? It is a curious man looking through a keyhole, the keyhole of nature, trying to know what’s going on.” Curiosity is the key. It opens one door after another for us to discover a new world.
1.Why does the writer use Albert Einstein’s words at the beginning?
A. To explain what a special gift is.
B. To show Einstein’s great inventions.
C. To introduce the importance of curiosity.
D. To tell us Einstein was an ordinary person.
2.What does Wan Hu’s story tell us about curiosity?
A. It can make people brave.
B. It helps to make new friends.
C. It is all about taking risks.
D. It makes people famous.
3.What can we learn from the scientists’ stories?
A. They all succeeded in their experiments at first.
B. They were all driven by strong curiosity.
C. They were all interested in the same subject.
D. They all became famous scientists in history.
4.Which is the right structure of the text? (P1=Paragraph 1...)
A.
B.
C.
D.
Passage 2
(25-26八上·江苏南通·期中)①Today, social media is very important in most teenagers’ lives. Apps like TikTok and WeChat change how young people make and keep friends. People talk a lot about this change. Does social media help or hurt teen friendships? The answer isn’t simple because it has both good and bad sides.
②Clearly, using social media has some good points. First, it makes staying in touch very easy. If a close friend moves to another school or city, you can still talk every day and see each other’s photos. It feels like the friend is not far away. Second, for quiet or shy students, talking online can make them feel safer and easier. They can think about what to say. This can sometimes help them be more confident (自信的) when talking in real life. Also, social media helps teens find groups that love the same things, like a game or music. This helps them make new friends from different places.
③However, we can’t ignore the problems social media brings, since they are really there. One big worry is that it can make teens compare (比较) with each other. People usually post the best parts of their lives—happy photos from parties or trips. When teens see these perfect posts, they may feel their own lives are boring or not good enough. This can make them sad or worried. Another problem is that texting (发消息) can cause misunderstandings. It’s hard to tell if someone is joking without seeing their face or hearing their voice. Worst of all, friendships can become all about getting more ‘likes’ and comments (评论). Teens might care more about popular posts than real talks with friends.
④So, what should we do? The key is to find a healthy balance. Social media is a tool, and we need to use it wisely. Teens should use it to help real-life friendships, not to take the place of them. It’s a good idea to set a time limit (限制) for using these apps every day. More importantly, spend more time on outdoor activities, hobbies and face-to-face talks with friends. Remember, a true friend is someone who cares about you and shares real moments, not just someone who gives you “likes”.
1.The meaning of the underlined word “ignore” is “________”.
A. understand clearly
B. enjoy very much
C. improve quickly
D. pay no attention to
2.What does the writer suggest teenagers do in their daily life?
①set a time limit while using social media ②stop using their social media apps
③try to get more “likes” from online friends ④compare their schoolwork with others
⑤have more face-to-face talks with friends ⑥have a balance between social media and real life
A. ①④⑥ B. ①⑤⑥ C. ②③⑤ D. ②④⑤
3.What is the article mainly about?
A. Why teens love social media and who uses it wisely.
B. Why teens love social media and how to choose its apps.
C. Social media’s good/ bad sides on teen friendships and wise use.
D. Social media’s good/ bad sides on friends and which apps to use.
4.What’s the structure of this passage? (①=Paragraph 1, ②=Paragraph 2...)
A. ①/②③/④ B. ①②/③/④ C. ①/②/③④ D. ①②/③④

A. They all succeeded in their experiments at first.
B. They were all driven by strong curiosity.
C. They were all interested in the same subject.
D. They all became famous scientists in history.
4.Which is the right structure of the text? (P1=Paragraph 1...)
A.

A. ①/②③/④ B. ①②/③/④ C. ①/②/③④ D. ①②/③④
【答案】1. D 2. B 3. C 4. A
