Every Saturday, 14-year-old Mia had to help wash clothes. But she hated it. One day, when her mother asked her to wash socks, she complained (抱怨) and threw them into the basket, “Why me?” Her mother was cleaning the kitchen floor and answered, “We’re a family, aren’t we?”
Mia felt sad. Her friend Emma’s house was always clean because they had a cleaner. “Why don’t we hire (雇佣) a cleaner?” Mia asked. Her mother replied, “Doing chores teaches responsibility (责任).”
Last week, Mia’s history teacher gave a project called “Hidden Heroes.” While researching, Mia found a story about Mierle Ukeles, an artist from the 1970s. Ukeles called housework “art” and even cleaned museums to show its importance. Mia was surprised—could chores be special?
That weekend, Mia noticed things she had never seen before: her father fixed the sink (水槽), her mother’s hands looked dirty from cleaning, and her brother watered flowers carefully outside. She realized their home needed everyone’s care.
For her project, Mia made a video and showed pride (自豪) in her family’s Saturday chores. She wrote funny titles like “Dad: Fixer and Breakfast Maker” and “Mum: Cleaning Boss.” When she showed the video, her classmates loved it. Emma said, “Maybe chores aren’t so bad.”

It’s a popular belief that fish can’t remember anything for longer than seven seconds. Every moment in their lives would be like seeing the world for the first time. But don’t feel sorry for them. A recent study has found that fish have much better memories than we thought. In fact, some kinds of fish can even remember events from as long as 12 days ago, BBC reported.
In the study, researchers from Grant MacEwan University in Canada trained a kind of fish called African cichlids (丽鱼科鱼) to go to a certain area of their tank to get food. They then waited for 12 days before putting them back in the tank again.
This showed that they could remember their past experiences. Researchers also found that after such a long break the fish still went to the same place where they first got food. In fact, scientists had been thinking for a long time that African cichlids might have a good memory.
An earlier study showed that they behaved aggressively (有侵略性地) in front of certain fish, perhaps because they remembered their past fights. But until the latest findings, there was no clear evidence.
Just as a good memory can make our lives easier, it also plays an important part when a fish is trying to survive in the wild. “If fish are able to remember that a certain area contains safe food, they will be able to go back to that area without putting their lives in danger,” lead researcher Trevor Hamilton told Live Science.
For a long time, fish were placed (放置) far below chimpanzees, dolphins and mice on the list of smart animals. But this study has given scientists a new understanding of their intelligence (智商).
So next time you are watching your pet fish from outside the tank, perhaps you should feel closer to them — they may remember who you are.
33. How much do we know about the fish from the study?
①Fish were put in a tank for scientists to study.
②It took scientists twelve days to do the research.
③Fish can remember where they first got food after some time.
④Fish would fight for food with others.
⑤Fish can remember things for longer than seven seconds.
⑥Fish can sleep with their eyes open.
A. ②③④ B. ①③⑤ C. ②⑤⑥ D. ①④⑥
34. What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 5 refer to?
A. Living places. B. The environment. C. A good memory. D. Food.
35. What’s the purpose of writing this passage?
A. To discuss the intelligence of the fish.
B. To discuss the living habits of the fish.
C. To introduce different kinds of fishes.
D. To introduce the good memories of the fish.

阅读下面短文,根据短文内容回答问题。
Imagine this: Your parents go away for work, but you have to stay at home by yourself. Would life be as easy as when your parents are around? Would it be a wonderful holiday for you?
“I can cook tomato and egg soup, but that’s all. I think many of my classmates are the same,” said Li Yujie, a girl from a middle school. “But I always forget things. I watch television and then burn the soup.”
“Now parents do almost everything for us, so we don’t know what we can do and how to look after ourselves,” Li Yujie said.
Usually teenagers spend most of their time doing their homework. They don’t learn any life skills (技能) until they finish high school. However, Simon doesn’t think so. “I think I am OK. I know how to cook some dishes because my mom showed me,” the 13-year-old boy said. In his opinion, many teenagers depend (依赖) too much on their parents, and there is much more to learn than cooking, like cleaning up your room or even dressing yourself properly. For most teenagers, it wouldn’t be a holiday at all. It could be a time to learn to be independent (自立的) and take care of themselves.

第一节 阅读理解 (共10小题;每小题2分,满分20分)
A
Every Saturday, 14-year-old Mia had to help wash clothes.
Now, Mia still doesn’t love washing, but she understands its value. As Ukeles said, “In fact, chores aren’t boring—they keep life going well.”
