(25-26高一上·福建三明四校联考·期中)In the age of the selfie, taking photos of yourself has become a daily activity. Half of all teenagers regularly post selfies. But what happens when the desire for the best selfie starts damaging nature—or even ourselves?
Social media tourism is dramatically changing who visits natural places like Figure Eight Pools in Sydney’s Royal National Park. Many people are now drawn to these places for the best selfie background. These new tourists, motivated to seek out photos and selfies, sometimes ignore warning signs or bans on drones (无人机). Thus, many people have been severely injured or killed by taking risky selfies and photos in dangerous locations. Additionally, drone use can cause environmental harm if drones catch fire or batteries leak.
The search for the perfect selfie can also harm animals, protected plants and even First Nations rock art. In some cases, selfies have become a long-term threat to ecosystems.
But for land managers, perhaps the biggest challenge is satisfying increased interest while keeping people safe. They are working to assist this new demand by reshaping nature to make better scenery—and keep visitors safer. At Moran Falls in Queensland’s Lamington National Park, a famous view had been blocked by plants, driving some visitors to jump the fence at the viewing platform and stand directly on top of a very tall cliff (悬崖). As a solution, land managers have the trees trimmed (修剪) and then use the fallen branches to hide the track made by selfie-seekers.
These land managers are wondering why traditional measures like signs and warnings often prove ineffective? The answer may lie in social recognition For many, the risk seems worth the reward if it means gaining admiration on social media. Nature-based content on popular social media platforms like TikTok often performs very well, giving other would-be influencers the motive to seek out new locations. This problem has been created by the combination of social media and human psychology. To solve it, we might look at how these two factors interact. Responsible selfie and tourism campaigns on popular social media platforms could be a start.
1.Why are many people attracted to visit places like Figure Eight Pools?
A. To appreciate the natural beauty.
B. To seek adventure and excitement.
C. To search for the ideal selfie setting.
D. To test the use of drones for photography.
2.How is Paragraph 4 developed?
A. By listing figures.
B. By giving examples.
C. By analyzing causes.
D. By making comparisons.
3.What leads to the failure of traditional measures?
A. Risks are often ignored by people
B. Rules are rarely followed by people.
C. Exploring new attractions is preferred.
D. Social media attention is valued more.
4.What solution is suggested in the last paragraph?
A. Launching tourism campaigns
B. Promoting proper behaviors online
C. Banning selfies in natural landscape.
D. Restricting access to social media platforms.

Passage 1
(25-26高一上·福建泉州第五中学·期中)The upcoming winter season offers a selection of the finest, quickest, toughest and most delightful running events across the UK for those seeking adventure or community spirit.
● Bah Humbug 10K, 1 December
Do yourself a favour and bring towels and plastic bags with you, because every bit of gear you wear during this event is likely to be caked with mud by the end. Therefore, the organisers have done well to ensure there are changing rooms and showers available for all runners.
racebest. com
● Winter Solstice Strider, 8 December
Dig that head flashlight out of the messy drawer for this after-dark run or walk for a good cause. You have a 5K route, which winds through the forest at the St Ives Estate. The route is far from flat and will almost certainly be muddy in places, so make sure your batteries are well charged in case there are emergencies.

Passage 2
(25-26高一上·福建三明四校联考·期中)Walking has long been thought of as one of the best exercises for whole health. This activity can strengthen your heart, lower your blood pressure, keep your bones strong and burn calories. When walking outside, you gain the extra benefits that come from spending time in nature, but it's not always possible to take your daily exercise outside. When the weather or other factors drive you indoors, consider a treadmill (跑步机) workout instead.
Treadmills are among the top three most popular pieces of equipment at US health clubs, according to the 2022 IHRSA Health Club Consumer Report. Before you jump on a treadmill and begin walking at your preferred pace, however, consider a workout where you change both the pace and incline (坡度), which can result in much more productive training.
For those who can change both their walking speed and the treadmill incline, fitness experts recommend some types of interval training, which involves repeatedly exchanging the intensity (强度) of your workout and/or the activities you're doing. Gillian Dalby, vice president of fitness at CAZ Training Club in Newport Beach, offered two easy possibilities.
Get on a treadmill and do one minute of walking, one minute of jogging and one minute of running for a total of 18 minutes by turns. "This keeps your mind busy, and it's an incredible way to build speed," Dalby said. Walk for one minute with no incline, one minute at a 4% incline and one minute at 8%, then repeat this sequence five times. If either workout is easy, double the time to 36 minutes or do both back-to-back.
"If your gym has both kinds of treadmills, try both out," Dalby said. "At the end of the day, what will keep you continuing with your workouts and stay enjoyable? The more fun you have working out, the more likely you are to continue your fitness journey."
1.Why does the writer mention walking outside in paragraph 1?
A. To advise readers to work out every day.
B. To explain the benefits of walking outside.
C. To sell a kind of fashionable fitness equipment.
D. To introduce walking on a treadmill to readers.
2.What does the underlined word "sequence" in paragraph 4 probably mean?
A. The rule that a coach teaches.
B. The result that is interesting.
C. The routine that works out effectively.
D. The order in which actions happen.
3.Which of the following will Dalby agree with?
A. Continuous workout leads to your high mood.
B. People should keep themselves active and happy all day.
C. Enjoying themselves will make people keep on exercising.
D. All gyms should be equipped with different kinds of treadmills.
4.Which is the best title for the text?
A. What Benefits Can Treadmills Bring Humans?
B. Does Walking Really Benefit People Greatly?
C. How Many Types of Treadmills Are Popular at Health Clubs?
D. How Can People Burn Calories by Exercising on a Treadmill?

Passage 1
(25-26高一上·福建厦门第一中学·期中)Many dog owners believe their pets understand and respond not only to commands such as “sit” and “stay, ” but also to words referring to their favorite objects. “Bring me your ball” will often result in exactly that. But science has had trouble determining whether dogs really activate (激活) a mental image in their minds when they hear the name of an object.
A new study has found that beyond being able to respond to commands like “roll over, ” dogs can learn to connect words with specific objects — a relationship with language called referential understanding that had been unproven in dogs until now.
The study involved 18 dogs and a procedure using electrodes (电极) attached to dogs’ heads to measure brain activity and register brain waves. Dog owners participating in the study would play a voice recording in which they said the name of their dog’s toy — like “ball” — and then they would show the dog an object. The researchers measured the dogs’ brain activity when the object in the recording matched the object that was displayed, and also when it differed.
“We expected that if a dog really understands the meaning of the object’s word, it will expect to see that object. And if the owner shows a different one, there will be a so-called surprise reaction in the brain, ” Boros said.
The study found a different brain pattern when the dogs were shown an object that matched the word, compared to when it didn’t — suggesting the animals formed a mental image of an object based on hearing the word for it. The study supports “theories of language evolution (进化) which actually say that referential understanding is not necessarily unique to humans,” added Magyari, an associate professor at the University of Stavanger in Norway.
While the study has received praise, some experts have expressed doubts about its findings. Behavioral scientist and professor of psychology, Clive Wynne, said in a post onFacebook that he believes that all the study shows is that dogs respond to stimuli (刺激) — but that they don’t actually understand the meaning of specific words.
1.What has puzzled scientists about dogs?
A. How dogs activate mental images in mind.
B. How dogs respond to their favorite objects.
C. Whether dogs can connect words with objects.
D. Whether dogs can truly understand commands.
2.How did the researchers conduct the study of dogs?
A. By observing their interactions with owners.
B. By training them to identify specific objects.
C. By monitoring their brain waves in different situations.
D. By comparing their reactions to different human voices.
3.In the study, surprise reactions in dog’s brain are caused by a mismatch between ________.
A. what they want and what they are given
B. what they hear and what they are shown
C. what they are trained to do and what is tested
D. what they are familiar with and what is displayed
4.What is Clive Wynne’s attitude toward the study’s findings?
A. Doubtful. B. Indifferent. C. Objective. D. Supportive.
Passage 2
(25-26高一上·福建福州第一中学·期中)Motivation enables you to meet your basic needs as well as complete your life goals. You may hear of extrinsic motivation a lot. But do you know you also have a hidden motivator called intrinsic motivation (内驱力)?
They are both very important, yet also different. Extrinsic motivation is driven by rewards, be it achieving high marks, earning lots of money, or becoming popular. Intrinsic motivation is all about enjoyment. For example, an intrinsic runner will run simply because he loves it. He is not training for a competition or trying to improve his records; he is running because he feels running is a part of him and enjoys it.
Although it has no rewards, intrinsic motivation does bring positive change and can lead to better performance. Researchers found that middle school students who were intrinsically motivated were calmer and more positive. So when you find these students are also those who raise their hands most, please don’t feel strange. They like to communicate with their teachers.
In fact, intrinsic motivation can be a more powerful motivator than extrinsic motivation. For example, if you are always measuring your success, you may live in dissatisfaction all the time. This is like being on “a hedonic treadmill (跑步机)”, where people are forced to buy the latest product. After buying it, buyers may feel empty and dissatisfied, and start hunting for another product to fill the empty hole in their heart. Likewise, after setting the next extrinsic goal, it is common to feel inspired.
So intrinsic motivation is becoming an important tool for parents and educators. It is about being in the moment and enjoying life each step of the way. Therefore, instead of asking your kids to set the next goal, you should help them stay in the present and enjoy the moment. They should look inside to uncover what inspires them and do it for the act itself. If they love nature, they can just walk in a forest without tracking the distance or time.
1.Which of the following is driven by intrinsic motivation?
A. Work for a pay rise.
B. Study for a top college.
C. Exercise as a hobby.
D. Train for an Olympic medal.
2.How does a teenage boy with intrinsic motivation perform at school?
A. He feels upset when failing the exam.
B. He interacts with teachers actively.
C. He finds other students strange.
D. He competes mainly for high marks.
3.Why does the author mention “a hedonic treadmill” in Paragraph 4?
A. To show the importance of new products.
B. To prove the benefits of extrinsic motivation.
C. To tell the possible problem of extrinsic motivation.
D. To highlight intrinsic motivation’s long-term effects.
4.What should parents do to develop their kids’ intrinsic motivation?
A. Push kids to track progress.
B. Ask kids to set changeable goals.
C. Guide kids to look within themselves.
D. Encourage kids to seek external rewards.

(25-26高一上·福建漳州第一中学-11月·期中)The Haenyeo are women from Jeju Island, South Korea. For centuries, they have made their living by diving (潜水) into the sea to harvest seafood like sea urchins and shellfish. Unlike other fishermen, they do not use oxygen (O₂) tanks or modern devices (设备). Instead, they depend only on their lungs (肺), holding their breath for each dive.
Chris McKnight, an expert at the University of St. Andrews, said studying the Haenyeo is “as close as you get to studying a mermaid”. He and his team worked with seven divers, recording 1,786 dives. Special devices measured how long the women stayed underwater, how deep they went, and how much oxygen remained in their bodies.
The results were surprising. The women spent more time underwater than any other people ever studied — from one to five hours each day. Unlike other animals that usually show lower heart rates and oxygen levels while diving, the Haenyeo had faster heartbeats and little drop in oxygen. This may be because their dives were frequent but shallow, usually 3 to 15 feet deep, lasting about 11 seconds each.
What made their achievements even more amazing was their age: most Haenyeo were around 70 years old. This showed excellent health and strength. Researchers also found that these women could better control blood pressure and stand cold water. Study co-author Melissa Ilardo believed the Haenyeo may also be able to put up with high levels of carbon dioxide (CO2), which usually makes people feel anxious.
“The Haenyeo’s ability to spend so much time underwater is not only a scientific wonder but also a cultural treasure. Their story shows how human tradition and biology can work together to create amazing skills,” said McKnight.
1.How are the Haenyeo different from other fishermen?
A. They use modern devices to fish.
B. They dive without any breathing devices.
C. They are all well-trained swimmers.
D. They make a living by collecting seafood.
2.What does the study find about the Haenyeo’s time underwater?
A. It’s longer than that of other humans studied.
B. It affects their health condition.
C. It often lasts for about 11 minutes each dive.
D. It’s usually over five hours daily.
3.What does McKnight want to say in the last paragraph?
A. The new research is a cultural treasure.
B. Scientific training sounds more important.
C. Human culture can shape physical abilities.
D. People are naturally able to live near the sea.
4.Which is the most suitable title for the text?
A. Unbelievable Women Divers of Jeju.
B. The Secret to Practicing Diving Alone.
C. A Surprising Discovery About the Sea.
D. The Haenyeo’s Thought of Modern Life.

(25-26高一上·福建厦门第二中学·期中)There is a growing hope in the field of earthquake prediction (预测) due to artificial intelligence (AI), which is challenging the widely accepted belief that earthquake prediction is impossible. Through a test carried out in China, a team of researchers from the University of Texas, Austin have developed an AI algorithm (算法) that can predict 70% of earthquakes up to seven days in advance.
The research team believes that their method worked well because they used a simple machine learning method. Based on the team’s understanding of earthquake physics, the AI was provided with a set of data on earthquake, and then taught itself by using a five-year earthquake record database. After the learning process, the AI was able to predict earthquakes by listening and analyzing signs of incoming earthquakes within the background rumblings (隆隆声) in the Earth.
This achievement undoubtedly marks a milestone (里程碑) in the field of AI-powered earthquake prediction research. “Earthquakes arrive without warning,” explains Alexandros Savvaidis, a lead researcher at the Texas Seismological Network Program (TexNet). “It’s a matter of milliseconds, and the only thing you can control is how well you are prepared. Even with the 70% accuracy, this is a huge achievement which could help reduce economic and human losses and contribute to earthquake preparation worldwide.”
Although it remains to be seen whether this method will be as effective in other areas, the researchers believe that if used in areas with more earthquake tracking networks, their Al algorithms deliver even more accurate predictions. The next step is to test AI in Texas, since UT’s Bureau TexNethas 300 earthquake stations and a continuous recording history of over 6 years, making it an excellent testing ground for these purposes.
In the long run, the authors hope to combine the AI system with physics-based models. This combined strategy could be particularly important in situations where data is poor or lacking. “There’s still a long way to go, but many advances like this, taken together, are what drive science forward,” said Scott Tinker, the bureau’s director.

(25-26高一上·福建莆田第一中学·期中)It might surprise you to learn that dogs are playing an increasingly important role as conservationists. For centuries, they have been known as man’s best friends. Now, their unique abilities are being used to help protect some of the world’s most threatened species.
Quick and loyal, dogs possess many qualities that make them ideal for fieldwork, but it’s their extraordinary sense of smell that makes them invaluable for conservation work. With around 220 million olfactory receptors(嗅觉受体)compared to just 5 million in humans, dogs can detect scents(气味)and analyze them with astonishing accuracy, devoting 40 times more of their brain to scent analysis than we do.
Thanks to this incredible ability, some dogs are now being trained to save at-risk animals by sniffing(嗅)out their droppings. At the University of Washington’s Conservation Canines facility, 20 specially trained dogs have successfully tracked killer whale droppings, which only float briefly on the ocean’s surface. Analyzing these samples enables scientists to monitor the health of killer whale populations, which are under significant stress from food shortages, pollution, and boat traffic.
Beyond tracking animal droppings, conservation dogs are also trained for live animal detection, further showcasing their abilities. They can locate rare species in their natural habitats. Additionally, they are now used to tackle the non-native species that threaten the survival of the local wildlife. Dogs also take on other important roles. For example, at Kenya’s Mombasa port, dogs sniff out illegal wildlife products such as rhino horns and ivory. Across Africa, they work on the frontlines against illegal hunting, serving as a powerful security force enhancer.
While dogs may not be the ultimate solution to every conservation challenge, their incomparable abilities make them invaluable companions in the fight to protect our planet’s biodiversity.
1.Why are the figures mentioned in the second paragraph?
A. To highlight the superiority of dogs’ sense of smell.
B. To suggest the amazing accuracy of dogs’ analysis.
C. To recognize the importance of conservation work.
D. To show dogs’ impressive achievements in fieldwork.
2.How do dogs help protect killer whales?
A. By tracking their movements.
B. By detecting their droppings.
C. By monitoring their populations.
D. By analyzing the collected samples.
3.What can we learn from the example given in Paragraph 4?
A. Wildlife products are popular in African countries.
B. Non-native species affect the survival of local wildlife.
C. Dogs are used to detect and prevent illegal wildlife trade.
D. Dogs can accurately locate the natural habitats of rare species.
4.What is the author’s purpose in writing the text?
A. To appeal to people to protect biodiversity.
B. To report various environmental challenges.
C. To introduce dogs’ roles in conservation efforts.
D. To prove the conventional claim of dogs’ qualities.

Passage 1
(25-26高一上·福建泉州四校联考·期中)Nowadays, handwriting seems to become less necessary, for young children learn to tap and touch screens before they have even learned to pick up a pencil or tie their shoelaces. Most of our written communication is done through texting on mobile phones or typing on a keyboard. And voice recognition softwares are becoming more and more advanced — making even keyboards unnecessary!
So, are handwriting skills important to your child? Actually, handwriting is an exercise in eye-hand coordination (协调), an important part of visual-motor (视觉运动) skills, which are connected with achievements in study. Scientists found that developing fine visual-motor skills in early childhood can lead to not only writing success, but better performance in reading and math in elementary school. It was also found that kids who fail to write neatly and efficiently are often accused of being lazy, and this may affect their behavior and self-worth. Moreover, a study showed that when a group of children were asked to come up with ideas for an article, the ones with better handwriting were more active and had quicker minds. In some ways, handwriting helps their brains’ development.
The first attempts at writing can be challenging for pre-school children — whose fine motor skills are not yet fully developed. But some skills to prepare for handwriting are simple to build at home and in preschool. Parents should provide lots of opportunities for kids to copy and draw shapes and simple pictures in early childhood before letters are introduced. Let your child copy your shapes in sand, or with chalks on a board before trying to draw the shapes on their own. Encourage your child to spend less time on electronic devices and more time on activities to improve eye-hand coordination.
Let’s face it — technology is certain to continue developing and more research is needed to find the best ways to teach handwriting to young children. But, there’s plenty of evidence that the handwriting practice can provide young children with a good start in developing skills needed for a healthy and successful journey in school.
1.According to Paragraph 1, handwriting is .
A. easy to learn on a touch screen

Passage 1
(25-26高一上·福建莆田第二中学·期中)Old buildings are usually thought of as throwaways and suitable for being pulled down. Most people have not fully realized the “green” values that are connected with the upkeep of old buildings. Actually, keeping and making use of old architecture is one of the most environmentally-sound things we can do — more than the construction (建造) of any new architecture expected to be “green”.
Aged communities, which have developed and changed naturally over a long period, hold unique cultures of their own. The buildings inside them are irreplaceable (不可替代的) to the environment. Choosing to pull down such architecture basically is like sentencing a special community to disappearance. Constructing “green” can be about saving time-honored, local building traditions that value the local cultures, rather than just using the latest and greatest technologies.
The construction supplies (建筑材料) and workmanship are also worth protecting, not simply because of the environmental cost of producing and transporting them, but for the fact that some of such supplies and the workmanship no longer live. For example, my little river cottage (别墅) in West Virginia, which was built with chestnut before the disappearance of the chestnut trees, may never again be sourced. However, the probable buyer planned to pull it down, which, in my view, is not only a mark of downgrading the source but also goes against the idea of workable development.
As the Preservation Green Lab report describes, it takes 10 to 80 years for a new building that is 30% more practical (实用的) than a common present building to overcome the harmful climate (气候) change results connected to the construction, which focuses on the necessity of ongoing use of present buildings and communities, successfully stopping or decreasing (减少) the use of forests, farms, wildlife homes and open areas for new construction tasks.
As Carl Elefante of Quinn- Evans architects artfully said, “The greenest building is one that is already built.” Hopefully, the public will come to the agreement that present buildings are worth more care and attention.
1.How do most people deal with old buildings?
A. People treat them lightly.
B. People rebuild them actively.
C. People explore them fully.
D. People treasure them heartily.
2.Why does the writer mention his little river cottage in paragraph 3?
A. To prove the shortage of building supplies.
B. To explain the difficulty of building houses.
C. To show the connection to the old buildings.
D. To point out the value of keeping old buildings.
3.What can we know from the numbers in paragraph 4 about old buildings?
A. They are more practical than the new buildings.
B. They can help avoid more environmental pollution.
C. They require fewer supplies during the construction.
D. They can clear away the bad influences on farms nearby.
4.What is the text mainly about?
A. Culture worth lies in green buildings.
B. Old buildings are cost-friendly.
C. Old buildings should be valued higher.
D. Building workmanship should be treasured.
Passage 2
(25-26高一上·福建厦门松柏中学·期中)In recent years, the concept of “slow travel” has appeared as a reaction to the fast-paced, mass tourism that dominates (主宰) the industry. Slow travel encourages travelers to engage deeply with local cultures, stay longer in destinations, and form meaningful connections with local communities.
One of the key principles of slow travel is to reduce environmental impact. By choosing to stay in locally-owned accommodations, eating at family-run restaurants, and using public transportation or bicycles, travelers can greatly decrease their carbon footprint. For instance, a study found that tourists who engage in slow travel produce up to 70% less greenhouse gas emissions compared to those on traditional package tours.
Slow travel also allows for a deeper cultural understanding. Instead of rushing through tourist attractions, slow travelers take the time to participate in local traditions, learn about historical importance, and interact with locals. This not only enriches the travel experience but also provides economic benefits to local communities. In some rural areas, “slow travel” has helped preserve (保存) endangered crafts and save dying traditions.
However, slow travel is not without challenges. It requires more planning and flexibility. As travelers need to research local customs, transportation options, and authentic (真实的) experiences. Additionally, slow travel may not be feasible for everyone due to time or budget (预算) limit. For busy professionals or families with limited vacation days, spending weeks in a single destination may seem unrealistic.
Despite these challenges, the slow travel movement continues to grow. Travelers are becoming more aware of their environmental and cultural impact, and many are seeking more authentic and sustainable ways to explore the world. As a result, travel companies are starting to offer more slow-travel options, such as longer home-stays and cultural experience programs.
1.Which is the benefit of slow travel?
A. It can save money on traveling.
B. It can be more environmentally friendly.
C. It can increase the income of travel companies.
D. It can allow travelers to visit more places hurriedly.
2.What can we learn about slow travel from the third paragraph?
A. It has little impact on local economies.
B. It focuses on interactions with travelers.
C. It discourages travelers from learning about history.
D. It may contribute to the preservation of traditional crafts.
3.What does the underlined word “feasible” mean in this context?
A. desirable B. affordable C. practical D. classical
4.What can be inferred about the future of slow travel?
A. It will cost less as time passes.
B. It will only be accessible to rich travelers.
C. It may become more popular in the future.
D. It will take the place of traditional tourism entirely.

(25-26高一上·福建顺昌县第一中学·期中)Recently, videos of using AI to choose watermelons became very popular on social media, showing the technology can pick sweet fruit. As watermelon season comes, many people find buying a watermelon like opening a surprise box. Will it be a dud? To put AI to the test, a reporter from xxcb.cn visited a store in Changsha, Central China’s Hunan Province to conduct an experiment. The reporter took photos and numbered eight watermelons, which made it easy to tell them apart and compare them later, and then asked AI to choose the sweetest one.
One AI software program admitted(承认)it couldn’t judge sweetness of the numbered watermelons. “Usually, methods to determine the sweetness of a watermelon include observing the appearance, weight, and sound of the watermelon. Tapping (拍) the watermelon can also be used to determine its sweetness.” the AI software explained.
Another gave tips on what to look for in choosing a sweet watermelon. “Based on the shape of the watermelon, rounder watermelons usually show a more uniform internal structure, which may be a sign of higher sweetness. In the image, watermelons 1 and 8 look rounder and larger, suggesting higher sweetness. However, the final sweetness needs to be confirmed by taste,” the AI software said. Following the AI’s recommendation, the reporter decided to put these two to the test. After cutting open watermelons 1 and 8, both were red and juicy, but watermelon one was slightly sweeter.
So, is using AI to pick fruit dependable? According to an AI expert, AI can provide helpful suggestions based on visual(视觉的) and base knowledge, but it’s not fully right. Although AI can be a useful tool for those unsure how to choose a melon, experienced people may still depend on traditional methods like tapping and smelling. Eventually, the decision on which watermelon to choose may still come down to personal preference and practical experience.

B. It showed three methods to choose.
C. It offered weight-based tips.
D. It connected sweetness to sizes.
4.What is the author’s attitude toward AI picking melons?
A. Objective. B. Negative. C. Worried. D. Unclear.
Passage 2
(25-26高一上·福建泉州四校联考·期中)If you have a smartphone, you probably use its front-facing camera for selfies (自拍) and the occasional video call. You might use your next smartphone’s front camera for the same thing, but there’s a chance that the camera won’t completely turn off once you’re done with it.
This week, chipmaker Qualcomm revealed its latest Snapdragon processor (处理器), which will power many of the high-end Android smartphones that you’ll see in stores in 2022, including models from Motorola, Sony and OnePlus. And a new feature built into that chip could allow smartphone makers to keep those front-facing cameras on all the time in a sort of low-power mode, waiting and watching for a face to appear in front of it.
The idea of a camera that stays on as long as your phone does seems deeply unsettling, even in an age where people are convinced that smartphones are already overheard (偷听) on our conversations. So why is a company responsible for building the brains of our smartphones trying to make “always-on” cameras a common feature?
In time, a phone using this new chip could actually unlock itself when it sees your face, and automatically lock itself again when you’re not looking at it anymore. Or, if it sees someone else’s face next to yours, the phone could automatically hide notifications (通知) so no one else can see what your incoming emails or Slack messages are about. The benefit of a phone is that it knows to act differently when you’re not looking back.
As it turns out, the Qualcomm tech that could make such features possible is conceptually pretty basic. “What’s happening here is to find out: is there a face, or is there not a face,” Heape told me. “There is not a photograph taken. There is no video being recorded.” He also said that none of camera data leaves the chip when it’s being analyzed (分析) for faces.
1.Why does the author mention “selfies” and “video call” in paragraph 1?
A. To advertise a product.
B. To draw a conclusion.
C. To give an example.
D. To lead to the topic.
2.What is special about the latest Snapdragon processor?
A. It ensures a longer stay-on time.
B. It prevents users being overheard.
C. It is fit for all Android smartphones.
D. It keeps the front-facing cameras always on.
3.What may be people’s attitude to the new feature of the new smartphones?
A. Favorable. B. Worried. C. Positive. D. Critical.
4.What could be inferred from Heape’s words?
A. Smartphones with the new chip are safe to use.
B. Smartphones with the new chip will be popular.
C. Face analyzing data are kept through the Internet.
D. Private needs are considered to make the new features.

Passage 1
(25-26高一上·福建莆田第二中学·期中)Robots have learned to drive on Mars, carry out brain operation and defeat master chess players. But when it comes to baking, making tasty desserts is far from a piece of cake. After many failed attempts, US researchers have successfully 3D printed a cherry cheesecake, although the outcome is unlikely to trouble the world’s dessert masters.
In the latest experiment, researchers tried various cheesecake designs. In early attempts, which involved simply adding ingredients one by one, the team found that the cake quickly turned into a mixture. Through trial and error, they discovered that a more architectural solution was needed. Walls of biscuit base were required throughout the cake to hold the softer ingredients, while triangular (三角的) biscuit supports on the inside were necessary to keep the cake from falling apart. “To print the cake successfully, we need to put the ingredients together in a careful way,” said the team leader Cooper.
Although much work is still needed to collect data and improve the designs, scientists are hopeful that once mastered, 3D printing could replace traditional cooking, allowing food to be adapted to different nutritional(营养)needs. “We have a huge problem with the low nutrition of processed foods,” said Cooper. “3D food printing will still produce processed foods, but perhaps the silver lining will be, for some people, a better control of nutrition based on personalized needs.”
The team said 3D printing could also allow chefs to create entirely new food experiences, with flavours and textures (质地) placed very precisely. “It is particularly practical for the plant-based meat market, where texture and flavour need to be carefully designed to taste like real meats,” said Cooper. And, with more concern about food safety, food prepared with less human handling could lower the risk of food-related illness and the spread of disease. According to Cooper, this seems like a win-win solution for all of us.
1.Why does the author mention robots in paragraph 1?
A. To show the disadvantages of 3D printing.
B. To introduce the popularity of using robots.
C. To stress the difficulty of 3D printing desserts.
D. To explain the function of robots in different areas.
2.What is the key to the success of the 3D printed cheesecake?
A. The thickness of biscuit walls.
B. The flexibility of inside support.
C. The unique taste of ingredients.
D. The structural design of the cake.
3.What do the underlined words “the silver lining” in paragraph 3 mean?
A. The side effect.
B. The main reason.
C. The positive aspect.
D. The best solution.
4.What is the last paragraph mainly about concerning 3D printed food?
A. Promising markets.
B. Additional benefits.
C. Practical concerns.
D. Technical challenges.
Passage 2
(25-26高一上·福建漳州第一中学-11月·期中)On social media, reading has taken on new styles. Many readers now create colorful and detailed notes, known as marginalia (书页批注). These marks sometimes cover entire pages and may even match the color of a book’s cover. While some see this trend (趋势) as creative and personal, others question whether writing in books is a bad habit or a useful practice.
Yet marginalia are hardly a modern invention. From Leonardo da Vinci to modern writers, generations of readers have long left their thoughts in the margins. Such notes often provide valuable insights for later readers and occasionally reshape the understanding of the text. In recent years, bestselling novelist Ann Patchett released a special edition with notes of her novel Tom Lake to raise money for bookstores, showing how marginalia can generate cultural and financial value.
Scientists have also examined the phenomenon scientifically. A study in Frontiers in Psychology recorded brain activity and found that writing by hand uses more parts of the brain than typing. This suggests that the physical act of writing, including marginalia, deepens memory and comprehension. Maryanne Wolf at UCLA further argued that making notes enables readers to go beyond the author’s ideas and discover their own understanding.
In education, marginalia also plays a role. Turkish professor Demet Yayli observed that taking notes encourages deep reading, helps students clearly express their views, and strengthens their learner autonomy. With greater autonomy, students are able to make decisions in learning and take responsibility for their progress, rather than wait for directions. Although note styles may appear unusual — underlining every line of a favorite character or marking romantic passages — experts agree that as long as the practice aids comprehension, any style is acceptable. Writing in the margins, far from being harmful, can personalize texts and enrich intellectual engagement.
1.According to the first paragraph, why has marginalia caused debate?
A. It changes the appearance of the book.
B. Its true value is doubted.
C. Readers enjoy colorful notes.
D. Books should follow trends.
2.Why was Leonardo da Vinci mentioned in paragraph 2?
A. To explain marginalia is a bad habit.
B. To say marginalia is not something new.
C. To show marginalia can create cultural value.
D. To prove books with marginalia tend to be expensive.
3.How did scientists examine the effects of handwriting?
A. By comparing writing topics.
B. By collecting memory test scores.
C. By tracking brain activity.
D. By recalling the author’s ideas.
4.What does the underlined word “autonomy” in paragraph 4 most probably mean?
A. Importance. B. Curiosity. C. Creativity. D. Independence.

(25-26高一上·福建厦门第一中学·期中)The public nowadays has a misunderstanding of forest fires, believing that fires should be kept out of every type of forest. Many of us can recall Smokey the Bear’s famous warning: “Remember, only YOU can prevent forest fires”. However, that’s not always the case. Under the right conditions, and when conducted safely, fire can create many environmental benefits as well as help prevent larger, uncontrollable wildfires.
After a forest fire, many wildlife species will move into recently burned areas to feed on these newly available foods. Some reptiles and amphibians such as the snake prefer forests frequently burned by fire. As Herbert Stoddard put it, “One of the most harmful things modern man has done to birds has been his attempt to exclude fire from fire-type pine (松树) forests. Within a few years most forests choke up with bushes, lose their prairie-like vegetation (草原般植被) and can no longer support birds which depend on periodic burning for their food supply and proper cover.”
If you are asked to picture the forest floor, what do you see? Pine needles, cones, leaves, branches might come to mind — all sources of fuel. If these fuel sources build up without any type of removal, the ‘fuel load’ can lead to fires which are huge disasters to forests and people alike. In contrast, prescribed fires can be used by forest professionals every couple of years to keep forest fuels at a proper and manageable level. They can also greatly reduce the spread of pest insects and disease and remove unwanted tree and plant species. Plus, they can create and maintain important wildlife habitats rich in grasses and promote the growth of trees, wildflowers and other various plants.
Many organizations work to promote fire on the landscape. Smoky Bear even has an updated warning: “Only YOU can prevent wildfires,” as the Forest Service has over the last few decades developed policies and measures to include prescribed fire as a useful tool, as well as continuing their work to prevent and fight wildfires.
1.What can benefit birds according to Herbert Stoddard?
A. Forest bushes.
B. Periodic burning.
C. Fuel sources.
D. Pine forests.
2.What does the underlined word “prescribed” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. Frequent. B. Wild. C. Planned. D. Damaging.
3.Why do forest professionals need to conduct fire every couple of years according to the passage?
A. To keep the forest in balance.
B. To keep the fuel rich in the forest.
C. To put out wildfires.
D. To remove tree and plant species.
4.What is the author’s purpose in writing the text?
A. To prevent the use of prescribed fire in the forest.
B. To promote the complete exclusion of fire from forests.
C. To educate people on positive aspects of controlled fires.
D. To encourage the public to remove sources of forest fuels.

(25-26高一上·福建厦门第六中学·期中)A recent global study, which surveyed 10,000 young people from 10 countries, showed that nearly 60 percent of them were extremely worried about the future state of the planet. The report also showed that nearly half of the respondents (受访者) said that such distress affected them daily, and three-quarters agreed with the statement that “the future is frightening.” This, and many other studies, show clearly that climate change is not just a threat to the environment. It also poses a very real threat to our mental health.
Psychologists have classified these feelings of sadness, distress, and worry about the current climate emergency as eco-anxiety. According to the Climate Psychology Alliance, eco-anxiety is defined as the “intense physical and mental discomfort in response to dangerous changes in the climate system.”
Eco-anxiety doesn’t just affect young people. It also affects researchers who work in climate and ecological science, burdened by the reality discovered in their findings, and it affects the poor people across the globe, who hopelessly bear the harmful impacts of climate breakdown.
In recent years, we’ve seen wildfires tear through Canada and Greece, and summer floods destroy regions in Pakistan that are home to nearly 33 million people. Studies have shown that those impacted by air pollution and rising temperatures are more likely to experience mental distress.
The cause of this mental distress is absolutely external. According to Caroline Hickman, a researcher on eco-anxiety from the University of Bath, anyone experiencing these emotions is displaying entirely natural and rational reactions to the climate crisis. Her suggestion? Take eco-anxiety as a tool for good-as an emotion that can urge people to act in protection of our planet.
This is why, in 2024, we will also see more people around the world join the fight for climate justice and apply for jobs that seek sustainable development. Eco-anxiety is not something we will defeat with therapy—we will solve it by taking action.
1.What does the underlined word “distress” in paragraph 1 mean?
A. Shock. B. Anxiety. C. Happiness. D. Anger.
2.What is eco-anxiety according to the Climate Psychology Alliance?
A. It is a strong reaction to the natural disasters.
B. It is a kind of mental disease for the young people.
C. It is a physical and mental discomfort when we meet difficulties.
D. It is a strong physical and mental discomfort for the dangerous climate changes.
3.What is mainly talked about in paragraph 3?
A. The process of eco-anxiety.
B. The impact of eco-anxiety.
C. The causes of eco-anxiety.
D. The benefits of eco-anxiety.
4.What’s the approach to solving eco-anxiety according to Caroline Hickman?
A. Defeat it with a therapy.
B. Just wait for a good solution.
C. Join the fight for climate justice.
D. Use it to urge people to protect our earth.

(25-26高一上·福建泉州第五中学·期中)How fast do you listen? Hollywood actor Glen Powell likes 1x listening speed, saying, “I want to hear people talk at a normal human rate,” while American comedian Bowen Yang believes 1.8x is the perfect pace. Their debate went viral earlier this year in an advertisement for a streaming platform, which was criticized for suggesting that people who listen quickly are unusual. The controversy reflects a broader change in how people consume digital media.
Surveys support this observation. A survey showed that 31% of Americans aged 18-29 listen faster than 1x, compared with only 8% of those over 45. To meet this demand, many platforms such as Apple, Spotify, Netflix and YouTube now provide fast playback (播放) options. Some even allow speeds up to 4x for premium users.
The appeal is easy to understand: faster playback can save a large amount of time. YouTube once reported that its viewers together saved more than 900 years per day thanks to this feature. For busy students and workers, such efficiency is attractive.
But does speeding affect comprehension? The average person speaks at a rate of about 150 words per minute, but most brains are capable of processing information faster than that, says Marcus Pearce, a cognitive scientist at Queen Mary University of London. A recent meta-analysis led by academics at the University of Waterloo in Canada found that up to 1.5x there was not much of a difference in performance, although scores started to decrease noticeably as playback speeds approached or exceeded 2x.
The practice has also raised different opinions. From the platforms’ perspective, faster speeds mean users consume more content, which increases advertising income. But many performers argue that something artistic is lost. Reading aloud involves pacing, tone and pause, and rushing may damage the quality of a performance. Imagine the famous monologues (独白) in Hamlet delivered at double speed — much of the meaning would disappear.
Despite the disagreements, fast playback has become part of daily life for many people. For them, to speed or not to speed is no longer a real question.
1.What can be learned about the controversy from paragraph 1?
A. An advertisement is well received.
B. People prefer different listening speeds.
C. Digital media is a topic of much debate.
D. Streaming platforms are part of daily life.
2.Why did many platforms introduce faster playback options?
A. To attract more elderly listeners.
B. To respond to the users’ needs.
C. To help people’s comprehension.
D. To cut content production costs.
3.What is the author’s purpose in mentioning Hamlet?
A. To stress fast speed harms art.
B. To show people favor classic works.
C. To prove actors dislike fast playback.
D. To suggest modern audiences lack patience.
4.What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. The need for fast playback
B. The argument over an advertisement
C. Higher speed, more profit
D. Speedier streaming, less meaning

Passage 2
(25-26高一上·福建福九联盟·期中)Sustainable (可持续的) travel is an idea that many experts within the travel industry agree on. To continue enjoying this amazing world, both travelers and the travel industry must change their actions to be more environmentally friendly. A report reads: “At this important moment in climate history, if there is a lack of actions, by 2040 many of the world’s favorite destinations will be forced to go virtual (虚拟的).”
What is sustainable travel? It is about traveling in a way that reduces negative impact (影响) on the climate and environment, as well as the communities and people we visit. For many years, the attention around sustainable travel was in need of reducing environmental pollution. While it is still important, there is now an even more pressing issue. With the growth of a private market that means local communities aren’t getting as many benefits from tourism as they should, change is needed more than ever.
To solve this problem, we need to rethink how we see travel. Instead of just focusing on our own experiences, we should consider the needs of our hosts while our hopes for a fun-filled holiday. All it takes is a little thoughtful planning.
One of the most useful ways you can make a difference when traveling is to reduce your carbon footprint. Wherever you choose to go, your transport will likely cause most of your CO2 emissions (排放物). It’s simple: traveling shorter distances and using less fuel (燃料) will make a big difference. And by doing so, you can visit more places and benefit more communities and people.
And traveling out of peak season can be a more meaningful experience. You’ll avoid the crowds at popular sites and find lower prices for hotels, restaurants and activities. For local people who work in tourism and are seasonal workers, the money they make outside of busy periods is much valued and needed.
Another impactful way to be more sustainable is to stay in places owned by the local community rather than chain hotels. It means the money you spend goes directly to local people who are serving you and need it most.
1.Why does the author mention the report in paragraph 1?
A. To try to explain what sustainable travel is.
B. To point out the main idea of the text.
C. To show why sustainable travel is necessary.
D. To present climate change’s effect on travel.
2.What does “an even more pressing issue” in paragraph 2 refer to?
A. Climate change.
B. Environmental pollution.
C. Fast growth of tourism.
D. Little attention on locals.
3.What does the author suggest a sustainable traveler do?
A. Travel less.
B. Choose long trips.
C. Make a package tour.
D. Try off-season travel.
4.Why are community-owned hotels recommended?
A. They provide better service for guests.
B. They are friendlier to the environment.
C. They help local people make more money.
D. They are the main part of the local economy.
5.Which is the author’s main purpose in writing the text?
A. To prove sustainable travel is the only way to protect tourism places.
B. To say sustainable travel should balance travelers, locals and the environment.
C. To tell readers community-owned places are key to sustainable travel.
D. To show solving pollution is more important than helping locals.

(25-26高一上·福建龙海第一中学·期中)New era requires a new vocabulary. Will we still talk about the “mobile” phone when all phones are mobile, or when they are implanted within us?
Technology is everywhere nowadays, especially at work. Some people are really good at using all the cool new tools that keep popping up. They have something called a TQ, or technology quotient. Think of it like a superpower for understanding the latest tech stuff that our great-grandparents would have found really impossible. Having a high TQ means you’re good at using all the cool new things that not everyone knows about yet.
The examples are common and becoming more and more frequent. For the parents it might be a home-school video class. For the brand manager it might be search engine boosting, which helps the brand’s content rank higher in search results. And for the doctor, it might be the role of artificial intelligence in supporting the analysis of a CT scan. TQ tries to quantify our ability to make wise use of present technologies and to quickly adapt, embrace and make use of future creations. This adoption is of great importance from a variety of perspectives, from social to business. One trip into the world of ChatGPT and we can see how the way AI and search interact and operate is changing for just about everyone.
Any Mom or Dad can understand the value of IQ and EQ in predicting the potential for a child’s success. But what about technology? The ability for the child and the teacher to understand, embrace and assimilate technology will be a key aspect of their lives as we speed into the future. We are increasingly defined by technology and our active participation in everything from smartphones to Facebook. It might just be time for the basic human needs of food, water and shelter to include technology too. And when that happens, it just might be a good idea to measure it.
While this shift brings challenges, it’s unstoppable. As TQ rises, it will combine with IQ and EQ, reshaping how we live, work, and learn — turning adaptability with tech into a measurable advantage.
1.What is TQ according to the text?
A. Ability to use new technologies.
B. Skill of repairing high-tech products.
C. Talent to follow modern changes.
D. Speed of learning new languages.
2.Which of the following people has a high TQ?
A. A doctor who analyzes CT scans with AI assistance.
B. A manager who often uses modern search engines.
C. A grandparent who finds new tech devices challenging.
D. A mom who watches videos of her child’s school life.
3.What does the underlined word “assimilate” in the fourth paragraph mean?
A. Depend on. B. Take in. C. Lie in. D. Insist on.
4.What might be the best title for the passage?
A. Why Are IQ and EQ Important for TQ?
B. What Makes TQ the New Intelligence?
C. How Has TQ Changed in the Modern Era?
D. Where to Start Adapting to TQ Changes?

● The Christmas Charity Run, 21 December
This event is run by a most environmentally conscious organiser in the country, and is therefore only open to local runners to reduce car travel. Another great feature is that £7. 50 of the £10 entry fee goes straight to a local charity that supports people with cancer, making this one of the most positive-impact events that you could possibly find.

● Mapledurham 10& Half, 29 December
Mapledurham events are always well organised and, with unpleasant weather likely, you'll have to deal with some mud on the various uphills and downhills on whichever of the 10K, 10-mile or half-marathon courses you choose. The organisers have prioritised finding a good route over precise measurements, so all three races have a rather loose relationship with their stated distance.

【答案】1. D 2. D 3. C 4. D

详细介绍了具体的训练方式,最后一段中的“"At the end of the day, what will keep you continuing with your workouts and stay enjoyable? The more fun you have working out, the more likely you are to continue your fitness journey." 所以D选项“How Can People Burn Calories by Exercising on a Treadmill?(人们如何在跑步机上锻炼来燃烧卡路里?)”最能概括文章主旨,适合作标题。故选D。

1.How does the AI algorithm predict earthquakes?

B. used less frequently now
C. more difficult than typewriting
D. totally replaced by softwares
2.How does the author explain the benefits of handwriting?
A. By presenting some research findings.
B. By mentioning examples of the kids around him.
C. By giving some news reports on hand-writing.
D. By providing data about pupils with good grades.
3.What does the author suggest parents do?
A. Keep young children away from electronic devices.
B. Teach pre-school children to write letters with chalks.
C. Help children get ready for handwriting before school.
D. Encourage children to face writing challenges bravely.
4.What can be the best title for the text?
A. Does poor handwriting really mean being lazy?
B. Should handwriting be taken seriously in children’s growth?
C. How can handwriting affect children’s self-confidence?
D. Should homework be done through handwriting or typewriting?
【答案】1. B 2. A 3. C 4. B

【答案】1. A 2. D 3. B 4. C

【答案】1. B 2. D 3. C 4. C

1.What does the underlined word “dud” in paragraph 1 mean?
A. Something small.
B. Something expensive.
C. Something tasteless.
D. Something seasonal.
2.Why did the first AI admit its inability?
A. It didn’t get clear melon photos.
B. It needed to collect more information.
C. It hadn’t answered similar questions.
D. It considered the shape unimportant.
3.How did the second AI differ from the first one?
A. It found out sweetness by sound.
B. It showed three methods to choose.
C. It offered weight-based tips.
D. It connected sweetness to sizes.
4.What is the author’s attitude toward AI picking melons?
A. Objective. B. Negative. C. Worried. D. Unclear.
【答案】1. C 2. B 3. D 4. A
【解析】【导语】
本文是一篇新闻报道。文章介绍了记者通过实验来验证使用AI挑选甜西瓜的可靠性。
(1)题解析:
词义猜测题。前文提到“ As watermelon season comes, many people find buying a watermelon like opening a surprise box. Will it be a dud?(随着西瓜季的到来,许多人会发现购买西瓜就像打开一个惊喜盒子一样令人兴奋。但最终买到的会是dud吗?)”句子中将买西瓜比作开盲盒,并提出了“Will it be a dud?”的疑问。根据“surprise box”的语境以及人们买西瓜时担心不好吃的普遍心理,可以推断“dud”最可能指代的是令人失望的、无味的东西。C项“Something tasteless(无味的东西)”符合此语境。故选C。
(2)题解析:
细节理解题。根据第二段中“One AI software program admitted(承认) it couldn’t judge sweetness of the numbered watermelons. “Usually, methods to determine the sweetness of a watermelon include observing the appearance, weight, and sound of the watermelon. Tapping (拍) the watermelon can also be used to determine its sweetness.” the AI software explained.(一款人工智能软件坦言,它无法判断这些编号西瓜的甜度。“通常,判断西瓜甜度的方法包括观察西瓜的外观、重量和声音。拍打西瓜也可用来判断其甜度。”该人工智能软件解释道。)”可知,第一个AI承认无法判断是因为它倾向于结合更多的数据。它需要结合外观、重量、声音等多种数据,而仅靠照片提供的信息不足。故选B。
(3)题解析:
推理判断题。文章第三段“Based on the shape of the watermelon, rounder watermelons usually show a more uniform internal structure, which may be a sign of higher sweetness. In the image, watermelons 1 and 8 look rounder and larger, suggesting higher sweetness.(根据西瓜的形状来看,较圆的西瓜通常内部结构更为均匀,这可能意味着其甜度更高。在图中,西瓜 1 和 8 看起来更圆更大,这表明它们的甜度更高。)”可知,第二个AI将西瓜的甜度与其形状(更圆)和大小(更大)联系起来。D项“It connected sweetness to sizes(它将甜度与大小联系起来)”准确概括了这一点。故选D。
(4)题解析:
推理判断题。根据最后一段的“According to an AI expert, AI can provide helpful suggestions based on visual(视觉的) and base knowledge, but it’s not fully right. Although AI can be a useful tool for those unsure how to choose a melon, experienced people may still depend on traditional methods like tapping and smelling. Eventually, the decision on which watermelon to choose may still come down to personal preference and practical experience. 故选A。
【答案】1. D 2. D 3. B 4. A

【答案】1. C 2. D 3. C 4. B

【答案】1. B 2. B 3. C 4. D

【答案】1. B 2. C 3. A 4. C

【答案】1. B 2. D 3. B 4. D

【答案】1. B 2. B 3. A 4. A

(1)题解析:
细节理解题。根据第一段“How fast do you listen? Hollywood actor Glen Powell likes 1x listening speed, saying, “I want to hear people talk at a normal human rate,” while American comedian Bowen Yang believes 1.8x is the perfect pace. Their debate went viral earlier this year in an advertisement for a streaming platform, which was criticized for suggesting that people who listen quickly are unusual. The controversy reflects a broader change in how people consume digital media.(你听的速度有多快?
根据第二段“Surveys support this observation. A survey showed that 31% of Americans aged 18-29 listen faster than 1x, compared with only 8% of those over 45. To meet this demand, many platforms such as Apple, Spotify, Netflix and YouTube now provide fast playback (播放) options. Some even allow speeds up to 4x for premium users.(调查结果也证实了这一观点。一项调查显示,18至29岁的美国人中有31%的用户播放速度超过1倍,而45岁以上的用户中这一比例仅为 8%。为了满足这一需求,像苹果、Spotify、Netflix 和YouTube这样的许多平台现在都提供了快速播放选项。有些平台甚至为付费用户提供了高达4倍的播放速度)”可知,许多平台都推出了更快的播放选项是为了满足用户的需求。故选B。
(3)题解析:
细节理解题。根据第五段“The practice has also raised different opinions. From the platforms’ perspective, faster speeds mean users consume more content, which increases advertising income. But many performers argue that something artistic is lost. Reading aloud involves pacing, tone and pause, and rushing may damage the quality of a performance. Imagine the famous monologues (独白) in Hamlet delivered at double speed — much of the meaning would disappear.(这种做法也引发了不同的观点。从平台的角度来看,更快的播放速度意味着用户会收听收看更多内容,从而增加了广告收入。但许多表演者则认为,艺术性的东西会有所损失。朗读需要节奏、语调和停顿,匆忙进行可能会损害表演的质量。想象一下,在《哈姆雷特》中那些著名的独白以两倍的速度朗读——其中大部分含义都会消失)”可知,作者提及哈姆雷特的目的是强调速度过快会损害艺术。故选A。
(4)题解析:
主旨大意题。通读全文,特别是最后一段“Despite the disagreements, fast playback has become part of daily life for many people. For them, to speed or not to speed is no longer a real question.(尽管存在分歧,但快速回放已经成为许多人日常生活的一部分。对他们来说,加速或不加速不再是一个真正的问题)”可知,开篇通过名人争论引出 “播放速度” 争议,反映数字媒体消费习惯变化。中间介绍快速播放的普及(用户需求驱动)、优势(节省时间)、争议(影响理解、损害艺术)。结尾强调快速播放已成为许多人的日常生活一部分。因此推断全文围绕 “快速播放” 的需求、普及、争议展开,核心是 “快速播放的必要性与相关讨论”,选项 A(The need for fast playback)最能概括主旨。故选A。

Passage 1
(25-26高一上·福建厦泉四地五校联考·期中)If you are longing for a hike in Alaska and aren’t sure where to star, here are our favorites. There’s something for all levels of skills and ambitions.
The Kenai River Trail
A half mile down this trail are wonderful views of the Kenai River Canyon. There are really two trailheads(小道的起点); the main “upper” trail starts at mile 0.6 of Skilak Lake Rd, and the other at mile 2.3.
Turnagain Arm Trail
This 11-mile hike begins at Potter Trailhead (Mile 115). Initially used by Alaska Natives, the trail, can also be accessible to points along the way: McHugh Creck (Mile 112), Rainbow (Mile 108) and Windy (Mile 107).

【答案】1. C 2. D 3. D 4. C 5. B

【答案】1. A 2. A 3. B 4. B
