The photo on the cover of our English textbook shows Zhengzhou East Railway Station, a modern place full of energy. Tall buildings stand beside fast-running high-speed trains. Such a great achievement does not come by chance. It is created by many inspiring people.
Every day, thousands of passengers pass through this station. As one of the most important transportation hubs in central China, it connects people from different cities and makes travel faster and easier. Young people can study and work in farther places. Behind this convenient system lies the effort of countless ordinary people.
First come the engineers who push the limits of technology. Liang Jianying, a leading high-speed rail engineer, is one of them. In the past, China depended on foreign technology. To change this, she and her team worked on independent research. They often stayed up late, analyzing data, improving designs, and solving technical problems step by step. After years of effort, they developed the Fuxing high-speed trains, marking great progress for China.
In addition, thousands of construction workers built the railway with great effort. They lived in simple houses near the site and stayed away from their families for long periods. They worked from sunrise to sunset in hot summers and cold winters, making sure the project finished safely and on time.
What’s more, railway maintenance workers protect every journey in silence. At night, when the city is quiet, they walk along dark tracks with flashlights, checking rails, wheels, brakes and doors carefully. Even a small problem could cause danger, so they never relax.
Although these people are not famous, their work keeps the railway running safely every day. China’s development depends not only on famous scientists and engineers, but also on millions of ordinary people who work with responsibility and devotion.
