Great progress in basic science and high-tech industries has recently made China’s young scientists and creators the focus of the whole world. At the 2026 International Congress of Mathematicians (国际数学家大会) held in Philadelphia, USA, two graduates from Peking University, Wang Hong and Deng Yu, won the Fields Medal (菲尔兹奖). This prize is called the “Nobel Prize for math”, and their win is a historic breakthrough for Chinese math workers.
At the opening meeting, the International Mathematical Union explained the reasons for their prizes. Deng Yu got the medal for his study of partial differential equations Wang Hong’s prize came from her research on harmonic analysis and geometric measure theory The Fields Medal is given once every four years, only to top researchers under 40, to honor their great math achievements.
Wang Hong finished her four-year math study at Peking University in 2011. Then she went to France for further learning and later got her doctor’s degree from MIT in America. After years of research work in famous foreign universities, she became a permanent professor at IHES in 2025. Different from Wang, Deng Yu is known as a math talent from an early age. His high school math teacher said he showed amazing math ability starting from middle school. Besides math, Deng has many hobbies, such as watching cartoons, writing poems and playing chess.
▲ Yang Zhilin, a 34-year-old tech entrepreneur (企业家) born in 1992, is another famous young innovator. After graduating from Tsinghua University, he finished his doctoral study in AI and worked in American tech companies. Later, he returned to China and co-founded Moonshot AI. His latest AI model Kimi K3 has drawn wide attention from the world’s tech circle. Another AI founder Liang Wenfeng also shared valuable ideas about the future of AI, causing hot public discussion online.
Many experts point out a clear change: Chinese young researchers no longer only learn and follow foreign ideas. Instead, they create original results in more and more fields. Both Wang Hong and Deng Yu received their basic college education in China, which built a strong foundation for their later overseas research. Their success fully proves the success of China’s training system for young math talents.
These young people’s stories show a big change in China’s science field. Their achievements do not only depend on personal hard work. Behind every breakthrough, there is a complete national system: strong university resources, perfect industrial chains and long-term support for basic science research. All these advantages help young innovators make more world-class progress in the future.

Though times have changed, falling asleep in class is still a common occurrence (常事) among teenagers.
Why do students sometimes fall asleep in class? An obvious reason is a lack of sleep. However, there are also causes for getting too little sleep.
Homework is a daily occurrence for most students, one that can take three to four hours per night. A teenager who wants to be able to take part in any activity must balance homework with them. For example, all contribute to (促成) teens having less time for both homework and sleep. Sometimes teens lack sleep because of after-school jobs that are taken on to earn extra money for college, family expenses, or simply for clothes.
Physical problems are another factor that can cause students to fall asleep in class. For example, insomnia, which may keep a student up at night, causing exhaustion (疲惫不堪) during class hours, is a serious problem that may require medical attention. Medical evidence also supports the idea that each person has a body clock that helps to decide his or her sleep pattern. Unluckily, these body clocks do not always work according to school timetables.
The effects of falling asleep in class can be quite serious. First of all, sleeping in class is not a good way to endear (使受喜爱) yourself to teachers. In addition, it is highly possible that other students may laugh at those who sleep in class. However, the most harmful effect of sleeping in class is missing out on important points. In the long run, sleepers may end up failing classes.
Since teens are probably not going to deal with the problem, falling asleep in class will probably remain an all-too-common occurrence. It will continue until more teens find a way to balance their personal and social lives with school and work, while still finding enough time to sleep.
Introduction
Times have changed, 56 falling asleep in class is still quite common.
Causes
Lack of sleepTo 57 doing their homework, students may have to work three or four hours every night.
To achieve a 58 between homework with activities, students may stay up late.

Effects

根据第一段“In the early 1950s, he made his way to Nanjing Normal University, where he learned painting from some famous artists. It was then that Yu found his lifelong love of gongbi.”
17.根据第二段“After graduating from the art school in 1957, Yu began his professional life at the Chinese Painting Institute of Jiangsu. Many books of his artwork have come out. Since 1959, Yu has created a lot of works for many important sites .”
18.根据第二段“Both the themes and artistic techniques have been widely praised in recent years.”
19.根据第三段“While following traditional rules, he uses a realistic style to express the beauty of nature.”
20.根据最后一段“Besides creating artistic works, Yu has made great efforts to let more people know about and learn his painting style as a cultural heritage of China… ‘I hope to create a bright future for it through my efforts.’”

第2段在介绍均衡饮食的重要性后,引用儿童营养学家Lucy Upton的话“When you choose a balanced diet, you’ll have more energy, feel better and be able to do the things you love”。
22.第3段首句写道“Another healthy choice you can make is being active—whether it is sports, going for a walk or playing a game of it.”破折号后的“it is sports, going for a walk or playing a game of it”是对“being active”这一选择的举例说明,因此“it”指代前文的“Another healthy choice”。
23.第4段写道“Sleep helps your body grow. While you sleep, your brain is busy building new connections and your body is repairing itself.”
