Recently, a low-budget Chinese film named Dear You (also known as Love Letters to Grandma) has turned into an unexpected box office hit (票房大热). Filmed mostly in the Chaoshan dialect (方言), this moving film has touched the hearts of millions, especially young audiences.
The story is about a family discovery. A grandson travels to Thailand to find out why his grandfather left China years ago and never returned. There, he uncovers a touching secret: a Thai-Chinese woman had been secretly writing letters and sending money to his grandmother in his grandfather’s name for 18 years to keep a promise (承诺).
In Chinese history, these letters sent with money are called “Qiaopi”. For families left behind, they were both financial (经济的) support and emotional connections from Chinese emigrants (华侨).
The film is highly recommended for its true social background. It includes Chaoshan folk culture, such as Gongfu tea and the colorful Yingge Dance. However, what really makes the audience cry is the strength of the women in the story. They showed deep-rooted loyalty (忠诚) and love that could cross oceans.
Today, many young people live a fast-paced life and often communicate through text messages. This movie encourages them to slow down and listen to the stories of older generations. As one viewer said, “It reminds us that behind every elderly person, there was once a story of youth, passion, and deep love.”
58. What is special about the movie Dear You?
A. It was filmed with a high budget. B. Many fans are waiting for it
C. It is spoken mostly in the Chaoshan dialect. D. It focuses fully on modern city life.
59. According to the text, what does “Qiaopi” mean?
A. Letters with money sent by Chinese emigrants. B. A kind of hot tea given to guests.
C. A colorful dance in southern China. D. Text messages used for communication.
60. Why did the Thai-Chinese woman secretly write letters to the grandmother?
A. To practice her Chinese writing skills. B. To make money from the grandmother’s family.
C. To ask the grandfather to return to Thailand. D. To keep a promise and comfort the grandmother.
61. What is the main reason that makes the audience cry?

Plastic production has been rising since the end of World War II. Plastic has greatly influenced modern life. It is widely used in clothing, electronic goods, cars and healthcare. In fact, plastic is not a single material. A study shows that 16, 000 different chemicals are used in making plastics. When plastic ends up in nature, it can take hundreds of years to break down. It pollutes soil and water.
People have realized the plastic pollution problem. Thanks to modern recycling technology, we see products made from recycled plastic — from T-shirts to bags to building materials. This is the magic of turning waste plastic into valuable products.
Scientists are developing more and more effective methods to recycle waste plastic. For example, researchers break down plastics into reusable chemicals by using heat, pressure and a kind of special water. Another technology creates a plastic mix to break down waste plastic into oil for new plastics. Scientists also use electric current (电流) to turn waste plastic into high quality graphene (石墨烯). The graphene helps to develop new cancer treatments.
Recycling reduces the need to produce new plastic from oil. Besides, it helps to control environmental pollution. However, recycling plastic is not always easy. Different types of waste plastics must be separated and well cleaned.
China has been stressing the importance of recycling and has taken action to improve it. Many schools try to encourage students to recycle properly. For example, students may get an award, such as a small toy or a pencil, for putting empty bottles into smart recycling machines. Factories are encouraged to use recycled materials in their products. With each recycled bottle, China moves one step closer to a future where nothing is truly wasted—everything is just waiting for its next use.
63. What do we know about plastic from Paragraph 1?
A. Plastic production started after World War II.
B. Plastic is commonly used in modern life.
C. There are many ways of producing plastic.
D. Producing plastic takes a long time.
64. In which way can waste plastic be recycled?
A. By mixing reusable chemicals into it.
B. By inventing a plastic mix to break it down.
C. By breaking down high quality graphene.

Have you ever heard of the avalanche (雪崩)? The avalanche is a kind of sudden natural disaster like the earthquake. During an avalanche, a lot of snow and ice rush down the mountain. As they rush, the snow and ice move faster and faster. In fact, the snow in an avalanche can move as fast as two hundred miles an hour. That is almost three times faster than a car on the highway!
Most avalanches happen after big storms. In the mountains like the Alps and the Himalayas, there is snow and ice all year round. After big storms, new snow puts more pressure on the old snow. It can make the old snow rush down.
Avalanches are very dangerous. Heavy snow moving down the mountains may pull trees and rocks along. That can cause great damage, such as pushing over houses and killing people. Luckily, no one lives in the mountains where avalanches often happen. Not many people die from avalanches each year.
In a word, it’s important for skiers (滑雪者) to stay safe while having fun in the snowy mountains. Because most people who may lose their lives in avalanches are skiers. Scientists can usually tell whether an avalanche might happen or not. If you are a skier, remember to pay attention to scientists’ warnings before you go skiing.

D. By developing new cancer treatments.
65. What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 4 refer to?
A. Oil. B. New plastic. C. The need. D. Recycling.
66. What does the last paragraph focus on?
A. The importance of recycling. B. The awards for recycling.
C. The efforts in recycling. D. The future of recycling.
67. Which would be the best title for the text?
A. Plastic Production over Time B. Waste Plastic: Serious Pollution
C. Effective Methods of Using Plastic D. Recycling: New Life of Waste Plastic

68. Which word best describes the snow in an avalanche according to Paragraph 1?
A. Slow. B. Fast. C. Rare. D. Common.
69. What makes the old snow rush down the mountains?

70. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A. Avalanches won’t hurt people. B. Avalanches may push over houses.
C. Few avalanches happen after big storms. D. Scientists can never predict avalanches.
71. What should skiers do before going skiing according to the passage?
A. Go and talk to scientists about avalanches. B. Learn about how to keep themselves safe.
C. Check whether there is an avalanche warning. D. Live far away from the mountains with avalanches.
72. What is the structure (结构) of the passage?
