She was the first woman to climb Mt. Qomolangma. Junko was born on September 22, 1939, in Miharu, Fukushima, Japan. She was born as the fifth daughter among seven children. She was considered as a weak child in her early days. However, just at the age of 10, she began climbing the mountain, while on a class trip to Mount Nasu. But she only got to make a few climbs during her high school days, as her family could not afford her expensive hobby. Junko attended Showa Women’s University from 1958 to 1962, studying English and American literature. Also, she was a member of the mountain climbing club at her college. She started the “Ladies Climbing Club: Japan (LCC)” in 1969 after graduating from college. Its slogan was “Let’s go on an overseas expedition (探险) by ourselves.” At the time, Junko climbed Mount Fuji and the Matterhorn and was known as “the mountain climber” in Japan. Junko’s LCC team attempted to climb to the summit (顶峰) of Mt. Qomolangma. The team contained 15 members. They had to struggle a lot before attempting to climb Mt. Qomolangma. At first, they were told that women were for raising children. The public just found it hard to accept. However, at the last minute, Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper and Nippon Television sponsored (资助) them. After a long period of time, the team headed to Kathmandu in early 1975. They used the same path that mountaineer Edmund Hillary and his Sherpa (夏尔巴人) guide Tenzing Norgay took. Unfortunately, the women and the guides were buried in the snow during an accident. Junko became unconscious (不省人事的) for about six minutes until the Sherpa guides dug her out. Later, on May 16, 1975, Junko Tabei became the first woman to reach the summit of Mt. Qomolangma, along with her Sherpa guide, Ang Tsering. 1.Why did Junko Tabei make only a few climbs during her high school years? A. Because she had no interest in climbing. B. There I was, walking home at one in the morning after a tiring practice at the theater. With opening night only a week away, I was still learning my lines. I was having trouble dealing with my part-time job at the bank and my acting at night at the same time. As I walked, I thought seriously about giving up both acting and San Francisco. City life had become too much for me. As I walked down empty streets under tall buildings, I felt very small and cold. I began running, both to keep warm and to keep away from any possible robbers. Very few people were still out except a few sad-looking homeless people under blankets. About a block from my apartment, I heard a sound behind me. I turned quickly, half expecting to see someone with a knife or a gun. The street was empty. All I saw was a shining streetlight. Still, the noise had made me nervous, so I started to run faster. Not until I reached my apartment building and unlocked the door did I realize what the noise had been. It had been my wallet falling to the sidewalk. Suddenly I wasn’t cold or tired anymore. I ran out of the door and back to where I’d heard the noise. Although I searched the sidewalk anxiously for fifteen minutes, my wallet was nowhere to be found. Just as I was about to give up the search, I heard the garbage truck pulled up to the sidewalk next to me. When a voice called from the inside, “Alisa Camacho?” I thought I was dreaming. How could this man know my name? The door opened, and out jumped a small red-haired man with an amused look in his eyes: “Is this what you’re looking for?” he asked, holding up a small square shape. It was nearly 3 a.m. by the time I got into bed. I wouldn’t get much sleep that night, but I had gotten my wallet back. I also had gotten back some enjoyment of city life. I realized that the city couldn’t be a bad place as long as people were willing to help each other. 1.How did the author feel when she was walking home after work? A. Cold and sick. B. A. lost her wallet unknowingly B. was stopped by a garbage truck driver C. was robbed of her wallet by an armed man D. found some homeless people following her 4.In the fifth paragraph, why did the author say she was dreaming? A. Her wallet was found in a garbage truck. B. Someone offered to take her back home. C. She heard someone call her name. D. A red-haired man came to see her. 5.From the passage, we can infer that the author ______. I was at a neighbourhood pool party on a Friday afternoon. I live in Texas so it’s warm even in October. My friend and I went outside to look for a pair of swimming glasses and saw someone at the bottom of the pool. We thought it was one of our friends playing but we quickly realised that it was a little boy who didn’t know how to swim. I knew something was wrong right away. We looked around, but the adults (成年人) were talking far away in the backyard (后院) and there was no time to spare. I jumped in the pool, dove (潜) underwater, and came close to the little boy. The little boy wasn’t breathing (呼吸) , which was really terrible. One neighbour did CPR (心肺复苏) and someone else called 120. Soon the doctors came and took the little boy to the hospital. I was sitting in my room, feeling bored. I had planned to go out and meet my friends, but the bad weather had ruined my plans. I decided to look through some old photo albums. As I turned the pages, I saw pictures of my family’s past vacations, birthday parties, and other happy moments. There was one photo that caught my eye. It was a picture of me and my grandfather standing in a beautiful garden. The sun was shining, and we were both smiling brightly. My grandfather had passed away a few years ago, and I really missed him. I remembered how he used to take me to that garden every weekend. He would show me all the different kinds of flowers and teach me about their names and characteristics. He told me that there was beauty everywhere if we just took the time to look for it. Suddenly, I heard a knock on my door. It was my dad. He said, “Hey, why don’t we go for a walk in the rain? It can be fun.” I was a bit surprised and didn’t really want to go, but I didn’t want to disappoint him either. So I went out with him. As we walked along the street, I noticed the raindrops falling on the leaves of the trees, making them look shiny and fresh. As we walked deeper into the park, I saw something amazing. The raindrops had formed little waterfalls on the branches of a willow tree. The drops were falling one by one, creating a beautiful and peaceful scene. I realized that my grandfather was right. Thorpe was an American Indian from Oklahoma who developed his extraordinary athletic skills in his youth through hard labour. It was also in his youth that he learnt to endure hardship brought upon by racial prejudice(种族歧视). Many would say his childhood was not easy. He grew up poor and at age 9, his twin brother passed away. A few years later, he lost both of his parents. But that did not stop him from doing what he loved and pursuing his dreams. Nothing seemed to stop him, not even stolen shoes. Just hours before Thorpe was going to compete in the 1912 Olympics, somebody stole his shoes. Thorpe improvised (临时拼凑) by getting shoes out of the garbage. The shoes were two different sizes. He wore an extra pair of socks on one foot to even them out. He still went on to win two gold medals — winning each event he competed in except for one, the javelin(标枪). The javelin was the only event he didn’t win, probably because he had never competed in that event before. It is interesting to note that Thorpe had tried to throw the javelin once before in the Olympic trials(预赛). At the time, he didn’t know that he could throw it with a running start. He threw it standing still and was placed second. At the Olympics, he also took part in the decathlon(十项全能运动). He finished first in two events, third in four events, and fourth in two more. Thorpe ended up finishing third in the world. He was undoubtedly a dominating force that couldn’t be stopped and just kept on going. I think Paul Dughi said it best, “It’s hard to imagine now that professional athletes get paid millions of dollars just to wear a particular brand of shoes. For Jim Thorpe, it didn’t matter what kind he wore.” 1.What do we know about Thorpe? A. He gained athletic skills through easy work. B. His success was no guarantee of a better life. C. His career brought him both gains and losses. D. He suffered many hardships throughout his life. 2.Why did Thorpe wear more socks on one foot? A. To prevent the foot from injury. B. To make the shoe fit the foot. C. To stop the shoe from being stolen. D. To protect old cuts on the foot. 3.What most likely led to Thorpe’s failure to win the javelin? A. Loss of his own sports shoes. B. A shortage of talent for the sport. C. Lack of experience in the event. D. A carefree attitude towards the event. 4.Which of the following can best describe Jim Thorpe? A. Kind and enthusiastic. B. Genuine and creative. C. Tough and strong-willed. D. Selfless and good-tempered. 5.What is the main purpose of the passage? A. To explain the history of the Olympic Games. B. To describe the life and achievements of Jim Thorpe. C. To discuss the problem of racial prejudice in sports. D. To show how to overcome difficulties in life. Passage 2 (25-26高二上·天津咸水沽第一中学和百中·期中)From the heartland to urban parks, there was a time when baseball was the only game in the summer holidays. But with competition from other sports like soccer, baseball is not as prevalent as it used to be. However, the baseball field is still a place for young boys to prove themselves. Tim was one of those boys. His build was slight and unfinished. Some boys had the makings of athletic ability through every growth period. Tim seemed to be growing in odd ways: long arms and legs, thin shoulders, and no meat on his bones. But he loved baseball. Although strikeouts (三振出局) piled up in the recording sheets, Tim continued. He knew his body didn’t respond to dreams and wishes, but his desire was always there. Tim practiced his swing every day, and every strikeout brought two things to the little boy: determination and some tears that Tim quickly wiped away before returning to the baseball field. His teammates encouraged him. His coach worked with him. Even the opposing teams held their breath, wishing for his hitting, just one hit for the boy who seemed to deserve it more than any other 10-year-old kid in the world. What teammates and parents and even the coach never saw was a gray car that pulled up each game in the parking lot. Inside was Tim’s father, too weak from advancing cancer to get out of the car. It was a tough assignment for a father to watch his kid strike out, but for Tim’s father, he believed success was made out of sweat, tears, and effort instead of results. That was also what he expected Tim to understand and do. At the end of the season, Tim stood on the field and was as determined as ever. He did his best, but ended up missing the chance to advance. When the game was over, Tim ran straight into the gray car and into the arms of his father, who witnessed his son’s every effort and was proud of him. Sometimes success really means more than the result. 1.Which can replace the underlined word “prevalent” in Paragraph 1? A. Common. B. Complex. C. Challenging. D. Competitive. 2.What is the purpose of describing Tim’s build? A. To introduce Tim’s poor family background. B. To compare Tim’s athletic ability with others. C. To emphasize Tim was too young to play the game. D. To show Tim has few physical advantages in the sport. 3.What does the way Tim’s team and opponents treated him suggest? A. Tim held the whole team back. B. Tim’s efforts won others’ respect. C. Tim’s slow progress surprised his opponents. D. Tim touched his coach with his excellent performance. 4.Why didn’t Tim’s father get out of the gray car to watch the games? A. He didn’t like baseball and was not interested in Tim’s games. B. His distant watching was to avoid a mental burden on Tim. C. He wanted to avoid meeting Tim’s coach and teammates. D. He was too weak because of his worsening cancer. 5.What can we learn from the passage’s ending? A. Tim finally got a hit and helped his team advance. B. Tim’s father was proud of Tim’s efforts despite the result. C. Tim felt very sad and refused to talk to his father. D. Tim decided to give up playing baseball after the season. 主题语境02 人与自我-做人与做事 (25-26高二上·天津耀华中学·期中)My husband and I were once in Nepal (尼泊尔) to see sunrise over the Himalayas. One morning we awoke to total darkness at 5 o’clock. As we rushed through a town with cameras in hand, I noticed the calm, gentle way the Nepalese people greeted the morning. One man boiled a huge pot of milk tea, and other villagers gathered around his fire, cupping their hands around small glasses of the steaming sweet mixture. It was fascinating, but not to be left behind, we joined the stream of tourists moving quickly up to the lookout point. The top was crowded when we arrived, but after 10 minutes of cold waiting, the assembled group gave up. “The cloud cover is too heavy,” one said. Then one by one they rushed down the hill to the next item on their sightseeing list. I was disappointed as well, but suddenly I noticed a small Nepalese boy absently playing with a stick and shooting quick glances at the clouds. He must know something we don’t, I thought. I decided to wait with him. The boy and I didn’t have to wait long. Moments later, a tiny stream of golden light burned through one thick cloud, then another. Rose-colored fog warmed the backs of the clouds, and suddenly the morning sun stole a glance around the side of the mountain, miles above where I’d expected it to be. Nothing I’d seen before prepared me for the moment the clouds withdrew with bowed heads, and the magnificent Himalayas were revealed before, around, and above me. I sat in astonishment, not breathing, not daring to look away, certain that God had placed me here at the backdoor of Earth to show me what Heaven really looks like. I certainly got the message. Never again will I rush a sunrise. I now know Nature will supply her fruits to me only when I am truly ready to receive them. 1.What does “It” in Paragraph 2 most probably imply? A. The darkness of the town in the morning. B. The huge pot of milk tea boiling on the fire. C. The way the local people welcomed the day. D. The stream of tourists rushing to the lookout point. 2.The author decided to wait with the Nepalese boy because A. she felt kind of having faith in him B. the restless tourists disappointed her C. that boy was praying to the sun with a magic stick D. she had nothing more to see on her sightseeing list 3.Which of the following words best describe the author’s feeling when she saw the sunrise? A. Totally shocked. B. Absolutely amazed. C. Truly frightened. D. Extremely interested. 4.What can be concluded from the passage? A. Do in Rome as the Romans do. B. God helps those who help themselves. C. Time and tide wait for no man. D. Fortune rewards those having patience. 主题语境03 人与自我-生活与学习 Passage 1 (25-26高二上·天津滨海紫云中学教育集团·期中)I’ve worked in the factories surrounding my hometown every summer since I graduated from high school. I had to get to a factory before 6 o’clock each morning, which is torture. My friends never seem to understand why I’m so happy to be back at school or that my summer vacation has been anything but a vacation. There are few people as self-confident as a college student who has never been out in the real world. People of my age always seem to overestimate the value of their time and knowledge. The most stressful thing about blue-collar life is knowing your job could disappear overnight. Issues like downsizing (裁减人数) and overseas relocation (重新选址) had always seemed distant to me until my co-workers told me that the unit I was working in would shut down within six months and move to Mexico, where people would work for 60 cents an hour. When I’m back at the university, skipping classes seems too irresponsible after seeing what I would be doing without school. My experiences in the factories have inspired me to make the most of my college years before I enter the real world for good. 1.How did the author look back on his summer days while at college? A. They brought him much money. B. They were no holiday for him at all. C. They were a relief from his hard work at school. D. They offered him a chance to know more people. 2.Which of the following is closest to the underlined word “torture” in the first paragraph? A. Misery. B. Fortune. C. Anxiety. D. Availability. 3.What does the author say about college students? A. They expect too much from the real world. B. They have little interest in blue-collar life. C. They think too highly of themselves. D. They are confident about their future. 4.What, according to the author, is most frustrating for blue-collar workers? A. They do not get much money. B. They may lose jobs suddenly. C. They have to work 12-hour shifts. D. They have to move from place to place. 5.In what important way has the author’s work experience changed him? A. He learned to be more practical. B. He acquired a sense of urgency. C. He came to respect blue-collar workers. D. He came to appreciate his college education. Passage 2 (25-26高二上·天津第四十七中学·期中)In my ninth-grade writing class last year, I met a cowboy who saved his town, a strict father who demanded his son earn straight A’s, and a modern-day Juliet who died of heartbreak after her parents rejected the love of her young life. More than once, I found myself wondering just how my students, who’d created these people, knew their subjects so well. But things were different for their first essay, which was about the question: “Why is writing important?” Most of the essays filled less than one page, and few contained a sentence that could be interpreted as a thesis (论点) statement. I was shocked. Then I realized that the problem was the question itself. They could have written pages on the necessity of computers, but writing, in and of itself, simply didn’t strike them as important. This would have to change. As a new unit started, I asked everyone to write a persuasive piece on a health-related topic of their choice. This time they found the exercise much more interesting. For the next two assignments, a personal-narrative unit followed by a creative-writing workshop, I only required that the piece meet the specifications of its genre (体裁) and that it contain a thesis. The results were staggering. The students took on diverse topics and turned in stories, 10 to 20 pages each, with characters that broadened my view and touched my heart. I walked into class believing that writing is important as a means of communication. However, my students demonstrated something more important to me. When the final bell rang in June, I walked away with a yearbook full of messages about writing’s most powerful significance — the ability to connect people, to put us in another’s skin, to teach us what it means to be human. 1.Who are the people mentioned at the beginning of paragraph 1? A. Ninth graders. B. Students’ parents. C. Modern writers. D. Fictional characters. 2.Why did the students perform poorly in writing their first essay? A. They were not given enough time. B. They had a very limited vocabulary. C. They misunderstood the question. D. They had little interest in the topic. 3.What does the underlined word “staggering” in paragraph 3 mean? A. Mixed. B. Amazing. C. Similar. D. Disturbing. 4.What does the author’s experience show? A. Teaching is learning. B. Still waters run deep. C. Knowledge is power. D. Practice makes perfect. Passage 3 (25-26高二上·天津部分重点校联考·期中)My life experience is anything but ordinary. Raised by my hardworking single mother on Australia's Gold Coast, I was encouraged to pursue higher education. Though I ranked top academically, my passion was cooking, a path my mother hesitated to support due to its challenges. To please her, I attended university while working part-time as a chef. However, my love for the kitchen soon surpassed my studies, and I dropped out to pursue cooking full-time. Over the next 12 years, I climbed the ranks as a chef, landing head chef positions in North Queensland. Life seemed perfect — I was engaged, had great friends and enjoyed stability. Yet, a lingering restlessness (挥之不去的焦躁感) grew within me. A trip to Bali became a turning point. I realized I desired something beyond conventional (守旧) existence. Despite guilt, I walked away from my settled life, returning to my mother's home on the Gold Coast. Soon, I fell back into old patterns — working in kitchens and feeling unfulfilled. Then, Instagram changed everything. As an early user, I poured my creativity into the platform, discovering a talent for photography and storytelling. By 2012, my audience grew to 200,000 followers, and tourism boards began reaching out. Recognizing the opportunity, I quit my job to pursue travel photography and social media full-time. The early days were tough. I created a “solo influencer package”, offering brands social media content, photography and campaign reports. As a pioneer in Australia's influencer market, my services became highly popular. I traveled on and on-50 trips a year at my peak-while expanding into consulting, public speaking, and project management. Now, I run a multifaceted (多层面) business, including photography, social media, and travel. I co-founded the Travel Bootcamp, teaching others to build careers in the industry, and launched an online photography course for beginners. Passage 4 (25-26高二上·天津第二十中学-11月·期中)At the age of 27, Lisa Carter was diagnosed with a rare neurological condition that temporarily affected her ability to walk and speak. For someone who had always taken her independence for granted, the sudden loss of control over her own body was overwhelming. But rather than falling into despair, Lisa decided to use her recovery journey as an opportunity to redefine her understanding of strength. During the long months of therapy, Lisa became fascinated by the resilience of the human brain. She read extensively about neuroplasticity (神经可塑性) — the brain’s ability to reorganize itself by forming new neural connections. Inspired, she began keeping a journal where she documented not only her physical progress but also her emotional highs and lows. Over time, the act of writing became a way for her to process her fears and frustrations, and to find clarity among the chaos. One evening, while re-reading her journal entries, Lisa noticed a pattern. The entries that focused on small victories — like taking her first unassisted step — seemed to carry more emotional weight than those obsessing over her struggles. She realized that celebrating gradual progress, no matter how insignificant it seemed, had been the key to maintaining her determination. This insight marked a turning point in her recovery. From that day on, she chose to focus on what she could do rather than what she couldn’t. Two years later, Lisa not only regained her ability to walk and speak but also authored a book about her experience, titled Steps of the Mind. The book became a bestseller and was praised for its honest and hopeful portrayal of recovery. Lisa’s story inspired countless others facing similar challenges, reminding them that strength is not defined by perfection but by perseverance. 1.Why was Lisa’s condition particularly overwhelming to her? A. She had always relied heavily on others for support. B. Her career required her to be physically active. C. Her condition was diagnosed at an unusually young age. D. She was unprepared for the sudden loss of independence. 2.How did keeping a journal help Lisa during her recovery? A. It allowed her to improve her writing skills. B. It helped her identify the causes of her condition. C. It provided her with a sense of emotional relief and clarity. D. It gave her a way to communicate when she couldn’t speak. 3.What was the key insight Lisa gained from her journal entries? A. Writing about her struggles improved her emotional health. B. Focusing on small victories kept her motivated. C. Rapid recovery was less important than steady progress. D. Setting ambitious goals was the key to success. 4.What does Lisa’s story primarily teach us? A. Physical recovery depends largely on mental resilience. B. Journaling is essential for overcoming challenges. C. Medical knowledge is crucial for personal growth. D. Support from others is the most important factor in recovery. 主题语境01 人与社会-社会服务与人际沟通 Passage 1 (25-26高二上·天津河东·期中)One afternoon, as I was driving back home, I stopped at a busy crossing as the traffic light turned red. I waited patiently for the light to turn green, so that I could continue my journey. Suddenly, out of nowhere, an old woman appeared and started asking for money. That day, I had unknowingly switched off the air conditioner in the car and my window was down. The old woman was standing very close to my car, and I saw her weather-beaten face, which had lots of wrinkles on it. Her eyes showed lots of sadness and her whole body was shaking. I sensed that this elderly lady had seen some extremely hard times in her life and at this time there was no one to look after her, which forced her to beg on the streets. Seeing her condition, I immediately felt a huge surge (汹涌) of sympathy for her. It was coming deep from within my heart. I normally give loose change to beggars; however, that day my inner self strongly urged me that I give her more so that she could have a good meal. Without any hesitation I took out a large amount from my wallet and placed it in her hand. Her weather-beaten face lit up with a toothless smile and she blessed me and went on her way. In the meantime, the traffic light had turned green, and it was time to move on. As I drove back home I felt a sense of joy and happiness because I was able to do something for at least one person on this planet. Passage 2 (25-26高二上·天津部分区·期中)Children in the developed world have a lot of choices when it comes to scientific toys. In the developing world, however, scientific toys are relatively scarce. So, what’s an adult to do if they want to get local children interested in science? Well, in the case of Arvind Gupta, they show the kids how to make scientific toys from rubbish. When Gupta graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology, he went on to work at Tata Motors, where he helped to build trucks. After five years of doing so, however, he decided that it wasn’t the career for him. In 2018, he took a one-year leave from his job, and took part in the Hoshangabad Science Teaching Program. “The objective was to make science fun and exciting for village children using simple, low- cost materials, ” he said. “This experience had a great influence on me. I thought it was much more satisfying than making trucks.” Gupta continued to design scientific toys that children could build for themselves out of cheap or free parts. Today, he is part of the four-person team that runs the Children’s Science Center. Together, they have designed about 800 rubbish-based educational toys so far. Instructions and explanations for all of the toys are available free through their Toys-from-Trash website. “Every day over 50,000 children and teachers across the world watch these videos,” said Gupta. “Thousands of books are downloaded (下载) every day and this fills our hearts with hope and joy.” One of his young students, a girl named Hamsa Padmanabhan, found the pencil toy particularly interesting. “She wrote a 12-page scientific paper on it, which won the second Intel ISEF Top Award of $2,500. Today a minor planet is named after Hamsa,” he said. “Another girl, Durga Jetty, who often learns to make toys from me, made the Bottle Turbine which won her 0.6 million Indian rupees! This is a great achievement.” Needless to say, however, Gupta isn’t in it for the money, nor for the chance to become famous. Instead, he simply wishes to grow a quality in children that he believes they all have. 1.What does the underlined word “scarce” in paragraph 1 probably mean? A. Not fun. B. Not enough. C. Not cheap. As a painter, embroiderer (刺绣师) and mixed-media artist, she has spent the past decade experimenting with the unique medium of honeycomb (蜂巢). In her latest collection, Roth employs the help of local honeybees to create amazing pieces that perfectly represent the co-existence of human beings and nature. Her works combine various man-made materials with the complex pattern of a raw honeycomb. During the cooperation, Roth’s part of work comes in the form of art picture hung in embroidery circles. Using her mastery of embroidery techniques, she creates designs with thread while including locally found materials, such as wood, plants and horsehair. After she arranges these elements to her liking, the bees come in to add their touch. Roth then attaches the circle to beekeeping frames and places it in a bee box. Over time, thousands of bees fill the frame with honeycomb, changing the piece into its final, fascinating form. The artistic cooperation between the honeybees and Roth’s creativity results in a unique and original work of art. Her direct cooperation with bees is just one aspect of her work. Roth also uses honeycomb in other collections, including sewn paintings, embroideries, and works on paper. In her work, Roth integrates the theme of the human relationship to the natural world, reflecting on how people shape nature to meet their needs and imaging a more beautiful outcome of our encounter. With the role honeybees play in pollinating many of the world’s crops, the species is vital to food production. Despite their essential duty, honeybee populations have been facing a growing decline worldwide, caused by factors such as climate change, habitat loss and pesticides. Roth raises awareness of this extraordinary species’ depopulation through her unique practice, exhibiting their exceptional architectural abilities and essential role in human life. 1.What is special about Ava Roth’s artistic practice? A. She focuses on the theme of nature. B. She employs bees to create artworks. C. She doesn’t cooperate with other artists. D. She only uses natural materials for her art. 2.What is mainly talked about in paragraph 3? A. The design of different elements. B. The complex results of art making. C. The difficulty of bonding with bees. D. The unique process of art creation. 3.What can we know about Roth’s work from the text? A. It highlights the exploration of nature. B. It reflects on how nature influences people. C. It advocates the harmony between man and nature. D. It aims to solve the issue of honeybee depopulation. 4.Which of the following best describes the impact of Roth’s practice? A. Far-reaching. B. Unidentifiable. C. Short-lived. D. B. Fortunate and hopeful. C. Satisfied and cheerful. D. Disappointed and helpless. 2.What is the author’s problem in Paragraph 1? A. She didn’t know how to learn acting in an evening school. B. Even on a rainy day, there was beauty all around us. By the time we got home, I was no longer feeling bored. I was actually glad that the rain had stopped me from going out with my friends because I had discovered a new kind of beauty. 1.Why was the writer feeling bored at the beginning of the story? A. Because it was a sunny day and he had nothing to do. B. Because he couldn’t go out to meet his friends because of the rain. C. Because he was looking through some old photo albums. D. Because he missed his grandfather very much. 2.What did the writer’s grandfather use to do with him? A. Take him to the park to play football every weekend. B. Teach him how to take photos in the garden. C. Show him different flowers and teach him about them. D. Read books about nature to him. 3.How did the writer’s feelings change in the story? A. Bored→glad→surprised. B. Surprised→bored→glad. C. Glad→bored→surprised. D. Bored→surprised→glad. 4.What did the writer see in the park? A. A lot of people enjoying the rain. B. A beautiful rainbow in the sky. C. Little waterfalls on the branches of a willow tree. D. His grandfather standing under a tree. 5.What is the main idea of the story? A. Rainy days are always boring. B. We should spend more time with our family. C. We should go for a walk in the rain to enjoy nature. D. There is beauty everywhere if we take the time to look for it. 1. B 2. C 3. D 4. C 5. D 2. B 3. C 4. C 5. 根据第一段中“Jim Thorpe is one of the greatest athletes of all time: He had amazing athletic abilities and was well-known during his lifetime, yet that did not make Thorpe a stranger to adversity (逆境).(吉姆·索普是有史以来最伟大的运动员之一:他拥有惊人的运动能力,一生都很出名,但这并没有使索普成为逆境的陌生人)”、第二段“It was also in his youth that he learnt to endure hardship brought upon by racial prejudice(种族歧视). A few years later, he lost both of his parents.(也正是在年轻的时候,他学会了忍受因种族歧视而带来的苦难。很多人会说他的童年并不轻松。他出生在贫困家庭,9岁时双胞胎兄弟离世,几年后,他的父母也相继去世)”以及第三段中“Just hours before Thorpe was going to compete in the 1912 Olympics, somebody stole his shoes. Thorpe improvised (临时拼凑) by getting shoes out of the garbage.(就在索普准备参加1912年奥运会的几个小时前,有人偷走了他的鞋子。他从垃圾堆里临时拼凑了双鞋)”可知,他出生贫困、9岁失去双胞胎兄弟、几年后父母双亡,青年时期遭受种族歧视,奥运会前鞋子被盗,这些均体现他一生历经磨难。故选D。 (2)题解析: 细节理解题。根据第三段中“Just hours before Thorpe was going to compete in the 1912 Olympics, somebody stole his shoes. 【答案】1. A 2. D 3. B 4. D 5. B 【解析】【导语】 本文是一篇记叙文。文章主要讲述了热爱棒球但身体条件不佳的男孩蒂姆,在多次受挫后仍坚持训练、赢得他人尊重,且身患重病的父亲始终默默见证他的努力,最终虽未取得晋级结果,但他父亲为他付出的努力感到骄傲,诠释了“努力本身即价值”的道理。 (1)题解析: 词句猜测题。根据划线词的上文“From the heartland to urban parks, there was a time when baseball was the only game in the summer holidays. But with competition from other sports like soccer(从中心地带到城市公园,曾经有一段时间棒球是暑假里唯一的运动。但面对其他运动的竞争,比如足球)”和下文“as it used to be(就像以前一样)”可知,棒球曾是暑假唯一的运动,很普及,后半句转折说明受其他运动冲击后,地位下降,即随着其他运动的竞争,棒球不再像以前那么普及、受欢迎,划线词prevalent的意思“普遍的,盛行的”,与Common意思一致。故选A项。 (2)题解析: 推理判断题。根据第一段最后一句“However, the baseball field is still a place for young boys to prove themselves.(然而,棒球场仍然是年轻男孩证明自己的地方。)”以及第二段中“Tim was one of those boys. His build was slight and unfinished. Some boys had the makings of athletic ability through every growth period. Tim seemed to be growing in odd ways: long arms and legs, thin shoulders, and no meat on his bones.(蒂姆就是其中之一。他身材瘦小,尚未长好。有些男孩在每个成长阶段都具有运动能力的体格。Tim似乎在以奇怪的方式成长:长长的胳膊和腿,瘦削的肩膀,骨头上没有肉)”可知,蒂姆身材瘦小,四肢纤细,不像其他男孩那样具有运动能力的体格。因此,作者描述蒂姆的体形是想说明蒂姆在棒球这项运动中没有什么身体上的优势。故选D项。 (3)题解析: 推理判断题。根据第三段“Tim practiced his swing every day, and every strikeout brought two things to the little boy: determination and some tears that Tim quickly wiped away before returning to the baseball field. His teammates encouraged him. His coach worked with him. Even the opposing teams held their breath, wishing for his hitting, just one hit for the boy who seemed to deserve it more than any other 10-year-old kid in the world.(蒂姆每天都练习挥棒击球,而每一次三振出局都会给这个小男孩带来两样东西:愈发坚定的决心,以及几滴他在重返球场前便迅速拭去的泪水。 根据第四段中“What teammates and parents and even the coach never saw was a gray car that pulled up each game in the parking lot. Inside was Tim’s father, too weak from advancing cancer to get out of the car. (队友、父母乃至教练都从未留意到,每场比赛的停车场里总会驶来一辆灰色轿车。车里坐着蒂姆的父亲——癌症不断恶化让他身体极度虚弱,根本无法下车。)”可知,蒂姆的父亲不从那辆灰色的车里出来看比赛是因为他的癌症不断恶化,身体太虚弱而无法下车。故选D项。 (5)题解析: 细节理解题。根据最后一段“He did his best, but ended up missing the chance to advance. When the game was over, Tim ran straight into the gray car and into the arms of his father, who witnessed his son’s every effort and was proud of him. Sometimes success really means more than the result.(他拼尽了全力,却最终错失了晋级的机会。比赛结束后,蒂姆径直跑进那辆灰色轿车,扑进了父亲的怀抱——父亲见证了儿子的每一份努力,也为他深感自豪。有时候,成功的意义远不止于结果本身。)”可知,蒂姆在比赛中拼尽全力,虽然未晋级,但他付出的努力让他父亲感到骄傲。故选B。 主题语境02 人与自我-做人与做事 (25-26高二上·天津耀华中学·期中)My husband and I were once in Nepal (尼泊尔) to see sunrise over the Himalayas. 【答案】1. C 2. A 3. B 4. D 【解析】【导语】 本文是一篇记叙文。主要讲述作者在尼泊尔观看喜马拉雅山日出的经历及从中得到的感悟。 (1)题解析: 词句猜测题。根据第二段中的“As we rushed through a town with cameras in hand, I noticed the calm, gentle way the Nepalese people greeted the morning. 【答案】1. B 2. A 3. C 4. B 5. D 【解析】【导语】 本文是一篇记叙文。文章主要讲述作者暑期在工厂打工的经历及其对大学生活态度的改变。 (1)题解析: 细节理解题。根据第一段中的“My friends never seem to understand why I’m so happy to be back at school or that my summer vacation has been anything but a vacation. (我的朋友们似乎从来都不明白,为什么我回到学校会这么开心,也不明白我的暑假根本就不是假期。)”可知,作者认为自己的暑假完全算不上假期。故选B项。 (2)题解析: 词句猜测题。根据第一段中的“I had to get to a factory before 6 o’clock each morning, which is torture. (我每天早上必须6点前赶到工厂,这简直是一种 )”结合前文提及暑期在工厂打工的背景,可推测torture意为“折磨、痛苦”,与 Misery含义最接近。故选A项。 (3)题解析: 细节理解题。根据第二段中的“People of my age always seem to overestimate the value of their time and knowledge. (像我这个年纪的人似乎总是高估自己的时间和知识的价值。)”可知,作者认为大学生(自己同龄的人)自视甚高。故选C项。 (4)题解析: 细节理解题。根据第三段中的“The most stressful thing about blue-collar life is knowing your job could disappear overnight. (蓝领生活中最让人有压力的事情是知道你的工作可能会在一夜之间消失。)”可知,作者认为蓝领工人最沮丧的是可能突然失业。故选B项。 (5)题解析: 推理判断题。根据第四段中的“My experiences in the factories have inspired me to make the most of my college years before I enter the real world for good. (工厂打工的经历激励我在正式踏入现实世界之前,充分利用大学时光。)”可知,打工经历让作者更加珍惜、重视自己的大学教育。故选D项。 Passage 2 (25-26高二上·天津第四十七中学·期中)In my ninth-grade writing class last year, I met a cowboy who saved his town, a strict father who demanded his son earn straight A’s, and a modern-day Juliet who died of heartbreak after her parents rejected the love of her young life. 【答案】1. D 2. D 3. B 4. A 【解析】【导语】 本文是一篇记叙文。文章主要讲述了作者作为一名写作课老师,通过教学实践逐渐认识到学生写作动力的来源以及写作真正意义的成长故事。 (1)题解析: 细节理解题。根据文章第一段中“In my ninth-grade writing class last year, I met a cowboy who saved his town, a strict father who demanded his son earn straight A’s, and a modern-day Juliet who died of heartbreak after her parents rejected the love of her young life. More than once, I found myself wondering just how my students, who’d created these people, knew their subjects so well. 根据文章第二段中“Most of the essays filled less than one page, and few contained a sentence that could be interpreted as a thesis (论点) statement. I was shocked. Then I realized that the problem was the question itself. They could have written pages on the necessity of computers, but writing, in and of itself, simply didn’t strike them as important. (大多数文章篇幅不足一页,几乎没有包含可被视为论点的句子。我感到震惊。随后我意识到问题出在题目本身。他们本可以就电脑的必要性写下数页内容,但写作本身根本没让他们觉得重要)”可推知,学生们在写第一篇作文时表现不佳,是因为他们对写作这个话题本身不感兴趣。故选D。 (3)题解析: 词句猜测题。根据文章第三段中划线词下文“The students took on diverse topics and turned in stories, 10 to 20 pages each, with characters that broadened my view and touched my heart. (学生们选取了多样的主题,交上来的故事每篇都有10到20页长,其中的人物拓宽了我的视野,也触动了我的心)”可推知,此处指学生们写出了内容丰富、打动人心的故事,与之前的表现形成强烈对比。划线词“staggering”意为“令人惊叹的、惊人的”,与B选项“Amazing (惊人的)”语义一致。故选B。 (4)题解析: 推理判断题。通读全文,再根据文章最后一段中“I walked into class believing that writing is important as a means of communication. However, my students demonstrated something more important to me. When the final bell rang in June, I walked away with a yearbook full of messages about writing’s most powerful significance — the ability to connect people, to put us in another’s skin, to teach us what it means to be human. 故选A。 Passage 3 (25-26高二上·天津部分重点校联考·期中)My life experience is anything but ordinary. Next year, I'll lead my first photography tour in Zimbabwe, my wife's homeland, combining my passions with conservation and community support. My journey has been challenging yet deeply fulfilling. Money is no longer the main driver — instead, I seek meaningful experiences and opportunities to inspire others. (你的内心是梦想的发源地。)”符合题意。故选D。 Passage 4 (25-26高二上·天津第二十中学-11月·期中)At the age of 27, Lisa Carter was diagnosed with a rare neurological condition that temporarily affected her ability to walk and speak. 【答案】1. D 2. C 3. B 4. A 【解析】【导语】 本文是一篇记叙文。文章讲述了27岁的Lisa Carter患罕见病,行动和语言能力受到影响,她在治疗中通过写日记发现关注小胜利能保持动力,于是坚持这样做,最终康复,并出书激励他人。 (1)题解析: 细节理解题。根据第一段中“For someone who had always taken her independence for granted, the sudden loss of control over her own body was overwhelming. That day, I had unknowingly switched off the air conditioner in the car and my window was down. The old woman was standing very close to my car, and I saw her weather-beaten face, which had lots of wrinkles on it. Her eyes showed lots of sadness and her whole body was shaking. A. Not fun. B. Not enough. C. Not cheap. D. Not environmentally-friendly. 2.What was affected by Gupta’s attending the program in 2018? A. His plan for a future career. B. His attitude to challenges. C. His interest in science. D. His understanding of scientific toys. 3.What can be learned about Gupta’s Toys- from-Trash website? A. It has helped him become wealthy. B. It is in great demand. C. It has sent free toys to poor kids. D. It mainly aims to instruct teachers. 4.Why does the author mention the two girls in paragraph 5? A. To show Gupta’s influence on children. B. To encourage children to be scientist. C. To introduce the value of Gupta’s students. D. To explain how to make money from science. 5.Which of the following can best describe Gupta? A. Serious and sincere. B. Polite and responsible. C. Creative and caring. D. Productive and talkative. 【答案】1. B 2. A 3. B 4. A 5. D. Flexible. 【答案】1.
