Passage 2
(25-26高一上·广西南宁第三中学·期中)Covering vast areas in Chile and Argentina, Patagonia is a dream destination for outdoor adventure lovers.
El Calafate, Argentina
Each day, buses leave El Calafate for the Perito Moreno glacier — an easily reachable ice formation and one of the few advancing glaciers in the world. A system of boardwalks takes visitors to different viewpoints, allowing them to be amazed at this bright, blue-white wall of ice.
Futaleufú, Chile
Picture this: you and your rafting team are waiting for the guide’s signal to paddle as hard as you can. Massive river waves crash against the boat, and white-water spray soaks you completely. You wipe your eyes and enjoy the warm sun while the Northern Hemisphere (北半球) is in deep winter, and there are many local guesthouses for your stay.
Cueva de las Manos, Argentina
Located in a remote canyon, accessible by tour or private car, a boardwalk guides you past a large rock face covered with ancient art. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is among South America’s most well-known rock art locations, featuring over 800 outlines of human hands and images of animals.
Punta Tombo, Argentina
You can smell the penguins before you see them. The sight of nearly a million Magellanic penguins — some in caves, some swimming in the sea, others standing nearby — makes a strong impression. The long, thin island also brings in gulls, flightless steamer ducks.
1.What is the highlight of the tour to El Calafate?
A. Creating icy artworks.
B. Viewing moving, glaciers.
C. Joining daily bus groups.
D. Walking across the icy boardwalks.

Passage 3
(25-26高一上·广西壮族自治区联考·期中)New York is a year-round city, with events happening every month. But when you’ve got limited vacation days, every moment of your trip counts. My advice: The best time to visit New York City (NYC) really depends on what you desire to see or do.
April
Spring is when New York shows its softer side. The weather is mild and the streets are calm — before the summer crowds come. In April, it feels like you have the city to yourself. After a long, cold winter being holed up in your apartment, you can walk through the park and watch the flowers bloom.
August
If you want to live like a New Yorker, head to Rockaway Beach, Queens, in August. This is where the locals escape the hot damp summer heat, especially when the Hamptons and Fire Island are too packed. Rockaway has a long stretch of sand, so you can take your pick. If you want to catch a wave, sign up for surf lessons at Locals Surf School.
September
September is the month that makes me fall in love with the city. It’s sunny and warm, and there are fewer crowds once the kids go back to school after Labor Day. Though there are signs of fall, mainly in the cooler nights, you don’t need to wear anything above a light sweater. This pleasant weather is ideal for a picnic in Brooklyn.
October
In October, the city becomes one big food festival. No really, there are open-air markets all across the five boroughs. If you want to try food from around the world, Queens Night Market should be at the top of your list. To see some cooks in action, get tickets to the New York City Wine & Food Festival that takes place in mid-October.
1.What does the author think is the key to choosing the best time to visit New York?
A. Vacation length.
B. Social customs.
C. Personal needs.
D. Attractive events.
2.Which of the following make April in New York special?
A. Its fewer crowds.
B. Its cooler nights.
C. Its fun festivals.
D. Its surf teams.
3.Who will probably enjoy October in New York most?
A. Famous cooks. B. Food lovers. C. Beach goers. D. Sports players.

(25-26高一上·广西第二中学-11月·期中)Frequently Asked Questions about London Theatres
London has a world-leading theatre scene, and it’s particularly strong when it comes to family shows. Read the FAQ to make your family theatre trip a pleasant one.
Can children go to all theatres?
Most shows are suitable for people aged 12 or older. Some productions might have material that is too mature for younger theatregoers. However, there are also fantastic family shows which are appropriate for all ages, or which are specifically aimed at kids.
Are children booster seats available?
Some theatres, though not all, provide booster seats-for example, Nederlander theatres rent height-adjustable seats for £1 if you ask a member of staff. They are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Some venues will also have height restrictions so that audience sitting behind you can still see.
Are there frequent breaks throughout the duration of a performance?
If it’s a show for a general audience, there will usually be one or two intervals based on the running time. Most shows designed specifically for younger audiences will have short running times, like an hour or less.
Can I bring my own snacks and drinks into the theatre?
Most theatres won’t allow you to bring your own snacks and drinks. They sell food and drink in the theatre and that’s part of how they bring in profit. If you have concerns about dietary requirements, you can contact the theatre beforehand to make arrangements.
Find all the latest recommendations and more information about the rules on Telegraph Tickets, or check with the box office.
1.Where is the text probably from?
A. A theatre guide.
B. A drama review.
C. A show advertisement.
D. A performance schedule.
2.Which best describes booster seats?
A. Found in every theatre.
B. Provided free of charge.
C. Required by safety rules.
D. Offered in limited number.
3.What are the theatres’ concerns behind their food policies?

B. Food safety.
C. Cleaning cost.
D. Audience experience.

El Calafate, Argentina

【答案】1. C 2. A 3. B
