Passage 1
The art of persuasion
Persuasion (劝说) is the art of influencing others’ thoughts, feelings and actions. 1 When you’re negotiating a business deal or simply trying to get your point across, persuasion plays an important role.
Employers attach a great value to employees with persuasion skills because they can impact several aspects of job performance. 2 Without persuasion skills, employees may not be as committed to or sure of the importance of an organization’s vision and long-term mission. Effective use of persuasion skills will help get your coworkers excited about your ideas, motivating them to achieve a common goal.
3 Good communication is the first step in effective persuasion, but logic and reasoning are just as important. Before you can get somebody to agree with your goal, why they should pursue it is what you should help them understand. Using visual aids which can back up your ideas can help illustrate your ideas better.
Successful persuasion skills are based on your ability to have positive interactions and maintain meaningful relationships with people. In order to maintain those relationships, you must be able to work in their best interests as well. 4 The more they achieve and the greater progress they make, the more they trust your judgement and strength.
We persuade and get persuaded every day. A vast majority of people favour cooperation and teamwork over traditional organizational structures; nobody likes to be told what to do or to be pushed around. 5
A.Like any skill, persuasion improves through constant practice.
B.To learn the art, you need to understand how to reach agreements.
C.Besides, teamwork and leadership rely on the power of persuasion.
D.Therefore, organizations and leaders should adopt powerful persuasion skills.
E.Your coworkers are more likely to agree with you when succeeding alongside.
F.It’s about persuading people to see things through your eyes or adopt your ideas.
G.The power of persuasion lies in the capability of turning conflicts into cooperation.
Passage 2
Without enabling your body to recover, the efforts you make in the gym amount to nothing. That one hour you spend lifting weights is of great necessity for building muscles.
1 . All workouts stress and kind of damage muscle tissue. It’s during the time away from the weights, known as workout recovery period, that it actually grows.
Workout recovery allows people to get the maximum benefit from workouts. 2 Repeated again and again, this process of stress and recovery is what results in your improved health and fitness. Here are some strategies.
If you’re experiencing burnout from strength training, the simplest way is a total break of exercise. 3 . You can also engage in a lower-intensity bike ride or walk for your body to circulate (循环) the waste products generated by the intense activity. Or try a gentle yoga practice to stretch out tired muscles.
Soft tissue treatments work especially effectively. 4 It involves using cups on the skin, creating a vacuum (真空) by heating and drawing the underlying tissues upward.
This technique can enhance blood flow and bring more oxygen and nutrients to the tissues.
5 A whole-foods-based diet provides your body with the building blocks needed to repair muscles and promote recovery, setting off the right changes in your body between workouts. Plus, sleep is a must as it makes the body produce the majority of its growth factors. Avoid screen time and alcohol before bed to help ensure quality sleep.
A.Don’t skip nutritional recovery.
B.This is when your body repairs itself and becomes stronger.
C.Just lie on the bed and kick up your feet.
D.The other 23 are just as essential, though.
E.The right way of exercising makes a difference.
F.You can’t attach too much importance to your figure.
G.An ancient Chinese practice is well worth a mention.
Passage 3
It started with a whisper. “Everyone else got one,” my daughter said to me, her eyes locked on the floor. “I was the only one who didn’t.”
1 The one everyone was talking about in the lunch line and on the walk home. The one that she heard would have unlimited cupcakes. The one she didn’t get an invitation to.
There’s a particular kind of heartbreak that happens when your child feels excluded You don’t just witness their disappointment; you absorb it. 2 “I’m sure it wasn’t personal,” I said softly. “Sometimes kids are only allowed to invite a few people.” But the words felt weak, like a Band-Aid on a big and deep cut.
This experience could have easily been about how to handle exclusion as a parent — how to build resilience (韧性). But what I've learned is less clean than that. 3 You can’t smooth every rough edge. Sometimes, your job is just to sit beside your kid in the thick of it. To let them cry.to let yourself feel angry, and to know that fixing it isn’t always the assignment.
4 She wrote a little note for the birthday kid. “Happy birthday,” it read. “Hope you have fun.” No bitterness. Just kindness. My daughter, in all her smallness, did what I hadn’t even figured out how to do yet: move forward without letting the hurt define her.
And maybe that's the only real takeaway I have. That sometimes, our kids teach us the wisdom we’re still trying to learn.
She never got that invitation. But what we gained quietly was something else: the chance to walk through disappointment together, hand in hand. 5
A.After all, honesty is the best policy.
B.Part of parenting is being powerless.
C.At first, I tried to say something to comfort her.
D.I encouraged her to show forgiveness to the kid.
E.And that, to me, feels like something worth celebrating.
F.The birthday party was definitely to be one to remember.
G.What surprised me most was what happened the next day.
Passage 4
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become an integral part of our lives, influencing everything from daily tasks to complex decision-making processes. However, with its rapid development, it is crucial to approach AI with a balanced perspective, recognizing both its potential and its challenges.
AI should be seen as a powerful tool designed to assist and enhance human capabilities, rather than replace them. 1 , but it lacks the creativity, empathy, and ethical judgment that humans possess. For example, while AI can generate music, it cannot replicate the emotional depth and originality of human compositions.
2 . In healthcare, AI can assist in early disease diagnosis and personalized treatment plans, significantly improving patient outcomes. In education, AI can provide personalized learning experiences, helping students learn at their own pace and in their own style. It can also automate administrative tasks, freeing up time for teachers to focus on teaching. Additionally, AI can tackle dangerous or monotonous tasks, such as disaster response or repetitive manufacturing jobs enhancing safety and efficiency.
3 . One major concern is the potential for job displacement, particularly in sectors where tasks are highly repetitive or data-driven. Besides, AI systems can continue errors present in their training data, leading to unfair results. 4 , as AI systems often require large amounts of personal data to function effectively. Ensuring data security and protecting individual privacy are critical challenges that need to be addressed.
To maximize the benefits of AI while mitigating its risks, a strong ethical framework and regulatory environment are essential. Governments and organizations should establish clear guidelines and regulations to ensure that AI is developed and used responsibly. 5 .
A.Privacy issues are another significant concern
B.AI has the potential to change various sectors
C.AI is the product of technological development
D.It is essential to use AI with a clear understanding
E.It performs well in processing data and repetitive tasks
F.While AI offers great benefits, it also presents significant risks
G.This involves promoting data diversity and protecting users’ privacy
Passage 5
Conflict Avoidance Doesn’t Do You Any Favors
Imagine this scenario: You’ve been working hard on a presentation for several weeks, but a co-worker jumps in and takes all the credit for your work. Instead of rightly speaking up, you choose to silently step back. 1 Aside from our work life, avoiding conflict can manifest in our romantic relationships, friendships, and even family dynamics.
Many of these tendencies can be traced back to growing up in an environment that was dismissive (鄙视的) or hypercritical. People who respond to conflict this way often expect negative outcomes and find it difficult to trust the other person’s reaction. 2
However, disagreeing with someone doesn’t necessarily mean “fighting”. It’s not about blaming the other person or proving who’s right and wrong in a given situation. Conflict resolution is about standing up for yourself and communicating when you feel angry or frustrated.
Before confronting someone, try examining your feelings. 3 You can try the following affirmations: “It’s OK to feel however I’m feeling at this moment — my emotions are valid.” “I am worthy and deserving of being heard.”
Drawing upon your sensory toolbox also helps. If you’re a visual person, you can relieve stress by closing your eyes and imagining soothing images. Similarly, if you’re more comforted by smells, keeping an essential oil on hand is a good choice.
One last step before confronting someone is having a plan. Clearly define what you’d like to resolve. Then, write down canned, factual responses to use when needed, like “I worked late for the past two weeks while my co-worker didn’t turn in their share of the research.” 4 You’ll feel confident when addressing them.
5 While it’s OK to never confront others, being able to resolve issues effectively means accepting it as a healthy part of communicating with others. Remember, disagreeing provides deeper understanding and makes it easier to connect with our friends, partners, and co-workers.
A.Practise the key points you’d like to get across.
B.Different cultures have diverse ways of handling conflicts.
C.Conflict is a normal part of our personal and professional lives.
D.In other words, expressing your opinion firmly can seem pretty scary.
E.Rather than allow conflicts to run wild in your head, try a firmer approach.
F.Being conflict avoidant means withdrawing from possible disagreements at all costs.
G.Instead of holding back emotions, try looking at them through the lens of self-compassion.
Passage 6
Perhaps you are familiar with the following scene: you’re meeting up with a friend, excited to catch up on the week and looking forward to sharing your news. But before you can get a word in, your friend passes you something and excitedly announces, “Look what I’ve got!” All other topics of conversation fall away and you spend the whole time listening to detailed descriptions of his new phone. You should probably be feeling happy for him. 1
When a friend is completely occupied with a new possession, it’s common for you to feel ignored and left out. 2 Before, conversations might have circled around hobbies, shared plans, or what’s happening at school. Now, it might seem like everything centres around their expensive new high-tech device.
It’s important to allow yourself to feel this way, but also to remember that this is a temporary situation. 3 And, although it might be upsetting to feel you’ve lost your friend’s attention for a while, the freshness will soon disappear.
4 Psychologist Catherine Hallissey explains, “Our brains are hardwired to seek out freshness-this means we desire new things. Sometimes, the urge is for the object itself and other times it’s for the respect from others.”
Perhaps an even more discomforting feeling that arises with others’ good fortune is envy. 5 It’s a normal reaction, especially when social media encourages comparison with others. The key is to allow yourself to feel it but not let it drive your behavior and negatively impact your relationship.
A.The new becomes old quickly.
B.Anyway, friendship is of value to you.
C.Why can the appeal of the new be powerful?
D.Instead, a large number of uncomfortable feelings arise.
E.It might feel like the focus of your friendship has shifted.
F.Remember that feeling envious doesn’t make you a bad friend.
G.Owning a particular product might boost someone’s self-image.
Passage 7
Green-eyed monster
It is all too human to feel envious of others’ success, but what can we do when those feelings threaten to overcome us?
The obvious solution would be to avoid comparing ourselves to the people around us. 1 Humans are social creatures, and our standing within a group would have serious consequences for our welfare. As a result, we unavoidably use others as a measure of our success. This can kill satisfaction we’ve gained from our achievements.
2 The relative ranking of people’s earnings, compared with friends or coworkers, matters more for life satisfaction than how much they earn. This is the same case in other aspects like education or intelligence. It is how we match up to others that shapes how good we feel about ourselves.
Envy may be worsened by a “focusing illusion (幻想)”. 3 We imagine that our successful friend is living in a constant state of joy, and forget that they have to face everyday difficulties like an argument with their partner or the death of a pet.
In one study, participants were asked to imagine a peer with a desirable life. Simply reminding them of the “small annoyances” this person regularly faced significantly reduced their envy. 4 Realizing this should make us think twice about wishing ourselves in another’s shoes.
When we are feeling bitter, we might also interpret others’ achievements as evidence that our own goals are achievable. Try remembering all the things within your control, and make a step-by-step plan of how you might achieve that. 5
We may never escape social comparison. When life gives us sour grapes, however, we can choose to make wine from those momentarily bitter fruits.
A.But that is easier said than done.
B.It refers to a habit of focusing on our failures.
C.So we can’t help envying friends’ promotion.
D.We can see this in how people think of their income.
E.It describes fixing on a single aspect of someone’s life.
F.We can never know what emotional problems someone may have.
G.In this sense, feeling envious will motivate you to take positive actions.
Passage 8
Is studying 12 hours a day possible? This is a question that many students ask themselves when faced with a heavy workload or upcoming exams. 1 It’s important to assess your own capabilities and limitations. Not everyone can maintain focus for such long periods of time, so be realistic about what you can handle.
Consider the quality of your study sessions rather than just the quantity of hours spent. It’s better to have shorter but more focused study sessions to absorb information effectively than longer sessions. 2 Our brains need time to rest and recharge in order to store information. So, make sure to schedule a short rest every hour or two. Moreover, creating a structured schedule and sticking to it can help maximize productivity. 3
One of the biggest challenges when it comes to studying for long hours is maintaining concentration. It’s easy to get distracted or lose focus when you’re spending extended periods of time studying. 4 Create a good study environment. Find a quiet and comfortable place where you won’t be easily disturbed. Remove any distractions such as your phone or social media notifications. 5 This could include reminder devices, mind maps, or even teaching the material to others. By actively engaging with the content, you’ll find it easier to concentrate for longer periods. Another helpful tip is to prioritize quality sleep and physical exercise alongside your studies to make your brain and body better equipped for extended periods of focused work.
A.Furthermore, taking regular breaks is essential.
B.Remember that you have your own pace of learning.
C.The answer is both yes and no, as it depends on several factors.
D.Generally speaking, the more hours you spend, the better you will learn.
E.Set specific goals for each study session and track your progress along the way.
F.Additionally, use various study techniques to keep yourself engaged in learning.
G.However, with a few strategies, you can study for long hours with concentration.
Passage 9
Time and money are life’s most valuable resources. One of the great laws of economics is that time equals money. The phrase “time is money” is usually credited to Benjamin Franklin, who used it in an essay (Advice to a Young Tradesman.1748) 1 He encouraged people to treat time like money. However, most people think about time and money in vastly different ways.
Time is our most scarce (稀缺) resource. Poor or rich, we all have 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. 2 In a world of scarcity, choosing one thing means not being able to do something else.
3 Time is relatively scarce for people with higher incomes, partly because their time is more valuable. So, to have lots of time, rich people hire other people to do their household chores. However, a non-working person may spend more time on household chores.
Time cannot be stored. One of the reasons we give little thought about how we use our limited resources is that we cannot save time. Time moves on whether we choose to spend it or not. 4 However, when people are made aware of their mortality (生命的有限), they wonder if they did make the most of their lives.
In sum, time is anything but free. As a non-renewable resource, time is quite expensive. 5 They do their best to think of their time as unlimited, and unlimited goods have little value. Knowing that time is limited encourages us to ask how we are using our time. Do we want to spend these precious moments on social media or spend that time learning something new? Skills and knowledge take time so the more time you spend on them, the more you improve.
A.It cannot be bought at any price.
B.It means time is a valuable resource.
C.The value of time varies from person to person.
D.Some people fail to realize that time is scarce
E.Thus, each of us faces the choice of how to spend our time.
F.You can’t bottle time and exchange it for an object or event.
G.Actually, time and money are greatly different from each other.
Passage 10
In a world surrounded by bad news, it may feel like an unhappy place sometimes. 1 If you make even one person smile today, you can help make this world a better place. Here is a list of ideas to help you.
2 In this day and age where everything is sent via the Internet, it’s a shock to receive a letter through the post. Putting pen to paper and writing a few words to a friend can be an easy way to make a positive impact.
Requiring some time and research to find the perfect project, volunteering is one of the nicest things you can do. Whether you volunteer at your local youth group or take dogs from shelters for a walk, the simple fact that you are giving up your time to help someone else is incredible. There are so many opportunities for you to do volunteering work. 3
Tell someone “I love you.” 4 And you don’t even have to say “I love you.” Perhaps you can tell a friend that you appreciate all they are to you, or remind your mum that it’s her birthday. Sometimes, in our busy lives we forget to take a moment to tell people what they mean to us.
5 Whether you’ re creative or not, taking time to make something for someone else shows how much you appreciate them. Even if you think you’ re not creative, the recipient will feel lucky to get such a unique gift that you put your precious time into. Some ideas could include a card, painting, drawing, song, poem or cake!
A.It can be anyone.
B.However, you can make a difference.
C.It’s a surprise to send a handwritten letter.
D.So you are sure to find one that is right for you.
E.And it doesn’t necessarily have to take up all your life.
F.Making something for a special person is always unique.
G.Even a postcard with a couple of sentences could really make someone’s day.
Passage 11
Essential Creativity
In a recent survey in America, 62% of people said that creativity was more important to success in the workplace than they had expected it to be when they were in school.
1 It is of course possible to scan people’s brains and see which parts are firing when an idea is created, but rather more romantically it can be thought of as something that cannot be identified. Creativity is what comes to you when you least expect it. You cannot demand creativity from your mind, nor can you demand that you are creative in a particular way.
One misconception about creativity is that it is reserved for a few special people. This is not true. 2 Another misconception is that creativity is all about the arts but this simply isn’t true. 3
It is incredibly important that schools do not prevent creativity. 4 Students should be taught to ask questions and investigate when things do not make sense. They need to learn to view mistakes as opportunities for learning rather than something that was unsuccessful. But now it is worrying that many schools are less concerned with nurturing creativity. However, without creativity, we are indistinguishable from the masses. 5 Meanwhile, we can also channel it to face the challenges of the future.
A.We can use it to set ourselves apart.
B.It’s difficult to define what creativity is.
C.Everyone has the capacity to be creative.
D.We can employ creativity to deal with the world.
E.Rather, they should work to expand, grow, and exercise it.
F.It’s hard to work out where exactly creativity comes from.
G.Creativity extends to maths and science in just the way it does to music and literature.
Passage 12
How to overcome travel anxiety
Stress and anxiety around documents and procedures of travel is common. Here are some tips from experts on how to overcome travel anxiety and enjoy your holiday or trip.
1 To be able to best cope with your travel anxiety, you need to have a good understanding of the things that actually cause it. Once you understand what triggers your anxiety, you can plan ahead for the best ways to handle it.
Plan out your trip details. One of the reasons for your travel anxiety is that you’re being taken out of your comfort zone and won’t have full control over everything. 2 That will give you a sense of control. However, it’s equally important to think of alternative plans for anything that could potentially not go as planned.
Make use of different relaxation techniques. 3 Another useful way to calm your mind is by meditating. To make sure you find the mindfulness technique that works best for you, try out a few different ones beforehand and use the most efficient one during your trip to set your mind at ease.
Have things with you that bring you joy. These can include physical item s like a book to read, or a game to play. It can be extremely useful in distracting you from your negative feelings. Alternatively, you can create a playlist of songs you love or have your favourite TV show with you. 4
Don’t forget your physical health. Being physically active is a great way to reduce feelings of anxiety and stress. 5 Going outside and connecting with nature can have a positive effect on your physical and mental wellbeing, which in turn will help reduce your anxious thoughts.
A.Brainstorm various kinds of anxiety.
B.Understand where your anxiety originates.
C.Frankly speaking, negative feelings can’t be avoided.
D.Make sure to incorporate physical activity in your days.
E.Deep breathing is a technique proven to help reduce stress.
F.They will keep your mind occupied, decreasing your feelings of anxiety.
G.To help ease that anxious feeling, try to plan out your trip in as much detail as possible.
Passage 13
Embracing Imperfections — A Journey of Self-Acceptance
Life is a series of ups and downs, and along the way, we often make mistakes. It's crucial to remember that no one is perfect and we all fall at times. 1 Instead, let's shift our mindset and learn to embrace our imperfections as opportunities for growth.
Start by acknowledging that mistakes are an essential part of the human experience. As we all know, a butterfly emerges from its cocoon (茧). 2 Reflect on the lessons learned from each mistake and the wisdom gained along the way.
Self-acceptance plays a vital role in our journey towards personal growth. Take a moment to appreciate your unique characteristics and qualities that make you who you are. 3 Celebrate these strengths and recognize that they contribute to your individuality.
4 Share your experiences with trusted friends or those who can offer advice and wisdom. Surround yourself with individuals who uplift and inspire you to embrace your imperfections and pursue growth.
Now, let's redirect our focus to self-care. Accept that mistakes happen, learn from them, and use that newfound knowledge to push yourself forward. Remember, the most successful people have encountered countless setbacks on their path to greatness. 5
Lastly, never underestimate the power of gratitude. Develop a gratitude practice by acknowledging the blessings in your life, no matter how small. Gratitude shifts our focus from what went wrong to what is going well, encouraging a positive mindset and promoting self-acceptance.
A.We too can transform and develop through our errors.
B.So treat yourself with kindness and understanding.
C.We shouldn’t beat ourselves up over our errors.
D.Are you trustworthy, creative, or a great problemsolver?
E.Recognize that you are not the cause of all the negatives.
F.It’s also helpful to seek support and guidance from others.
G.Our journey involves acknowledging and embracing imperfections.
Passage 14
Think back to your last presentation. 1 And were they engaged in what you were saying? While you may think yourself to be a great speaker, it is not particularly hard to annoy your audience. Here are the top three of annoying habits in a presentation: reading the presentation (37%), having no knowledge of the subject matter (22%), using many “umms” and “uhhs” (16%).
So here are some tips to help you avoid these annoying mistakes.
The most annoying presentation habit is also one of the easiest to fall victim to. With a visual aid, you tend to look back and read what you have already written. 2 By reading your slides, you show no additional information, and therefore give your audience no reason to keep listening once they have finished reading the slide themselves.
One guideline I find especially effective is to ensure each slide has no more than six main points, and no more than six words per point. 3 When in practice, having slides with flexible layouts and proper pictures is equally important.
4 The more prepared you are, the better you can effectively avoid sounding like you’ve never even heard of your topic before. So in order to show your audience you know your stuff, getting ready will make all the difference.
The third most annoying habit was using many “umms” and “uhhs”, a symptom of not communicating effectively. This could be a result of stage fright, but more often than not these interjections (感叹词) happen unconsciously. 5
One tip for avoiding this is to practice your presentation multiple times beforehand, out loud. The more you practice, the more likely you can catch yourself before letting the “umms” and “uhhs” slip out.
A.Was it boring?
B.Were people interested?
C.It helps you to save your time.
D.This stops you overloading your slides with information.
E.Despite how innocent they seem, they can ruin your credibility.
F.Avoiding another annoying habit comes down to one factor: preparation.
G.However, all this shows that you can do what your audience can as well.
Passage 15
Here is some good news for those hating summer heat-July is National Ice Cream Month! 1 The order urges citizens to observe the entire month or at least on the third Sunday of July with appropriate ceremonies and activities. This, of course, means eating as much ice cream as possible. Here are some fun ice cream facts.
The first record of milk-based ice cream, made using heated milk, and flour, came from China’s Tang dynasty. However, the Arabs are regarded as inventing the modern type, using milk and sugar in the 9th century. By the 10th century, a delicious frozen treat using milk, cream, rosewater, dried fruits, and nuts was extremely popular in Baghdad, Damascus, and Cairo. Europeans discovered the icy treat in the 16th century. 2 The dessert was first mentioned in 1744, when Maryland Governor Thomas Bladen served strawberry ice cream to guests. However, due to the lack of refrigerators, it was not until 1851 that ice cream finally became available to the public.
3 An estimated $6 billion is spent annually on the treat, and the numbers are even higher if restaurant sales are included. Though California produces the most ice cream, the biggest fans, on a per capita(人均的)basis, live in Washington, DC, Rhode Island, and Wisconsin.
Most people think their ice cream choice is a function of their taste preference. 4 Vanilla(香草)ice cream fans are risk-takers who are great at relationships. Strawberry ice cream enthusiasts are devoted. Coffee fans are likely to be serious and perfectionists. 5
A.Chocolate fans must be generous and charming.
B.But it didn’t go to America until the 18th century.
C.People all over the world celebrate the special day.
D.Everyone, especially children, loved eating ice cream
E.Americans are now one of the world’s largest ice cream consumers.
F.Dr. Alan Hirsch, however, believes it reflects an individual’s personality,
G.The “cool” holiday was made by former US President Reagan on July 9,1984.

1.上文“Persuasion (劝说) is the art of influencing others’ thoughts, feelings and actions.(劝说,是影响他人思想、情感与行为的艺术。)” F“It’s about persuading people to see things through your eyes or adopt your ideas.(它旨在说服人们从你的视角看待事物,或是采纳你的观点。)”
2.前文“Employers attach a great value to employees with persuasion skills because they can impact several aspects of job performance.(雇主们格外重视具备劝说能力的员工,因为这种能力会影响工作表现的多个方面。)”提到雇主重视员工的劝说能力,因其影响工作表现的多个方面;后句“Without persuasion skills, employees may not be as committed to or sure of the importance of an organization’s vision and long-term mission.(若缺乏劝说能力,员工可能难以认同组织愿景的重要性,也无法坚定践行其长期使命。)” C“Therefore, organizations and leaders should adopt powerful persuasion skills. (此外,团队合作与领导力的发挥,也依赖于劝说的力量。)”既承接前文“工作表现的多个方面”,又引出后文“激励同事、达成共同目标”的团队场景,起到过渡作用。故选C。
3.空处为段首句,为本段主要内容。根据下文“Good communication is the first step in effective persuasion, but logic and reasoning are just as important. Before you can get somebody to agree with your goal, why they should pursue it is what you should help them understand. Using visual aids which can back up your ideas can help illustrate your ideas better.(良好的沟通是有效劝说的第一步,但逻辑与推理同样重要。在让他人认同你的目标之前,你首先要帮他们理解“为何要为之努力”。借助能支撑你观点的视觉辅助工具,也能更好地阐明想法。)”可知,本段围绕有效劝说的具体方法展开。选项B“To learn the art, you need to understand how to reach agreements.(要掌握这门艺术,你需先明白如何达成共识。)”
4.上文“In order to maintain those relationships, you must be able to work in their best interests as well.(而要维系这些关系,你还需懂得为对方的最大利益着想。)”强调劝说需考虑他人最大利益;而下文“The more they achieve and the greater progress they make, the more they trust your judgement and strength.(他们取得的成就越多、进步越大,就越会信任你的判断与能力。)” E“Your coworkers are more likely to agree with you when succeeding alongside. (当同事能与你一同取得成功时,他们更有可能认同你。)”既呼应考虑他人利益,又解释了后句信任产生的原因,逻辑连贯。故选E。
5.上文“We persuade and get persuaded every day. A vast majority of people favour cooperation and teamwork over traditional organizational structures; nobody likes to be told what to do or to be pushed around.(我们每天都在劝说他人,也在被他人劝说。绝大多数人更倾向于合作与团队协作,而非传统的层级管理模式;没人喜欢被指手画脚,或是被迫做某事。)”提到多数人喜欢合作而非被指挥。选项D“Therefore, organizations and leaders should adopt powerful persuasion skills.(因此,组织与领导者都应运用有力的劝说技巧。)”
【答案】1.D 2.B 3.C 4.G 5.A
1.由上文“That one hour you spend lifting weights is of great necessity for building muscles.(你花在举重上的那一小时对增肌至关重要。)”和下文“All workouts stress and kind of damage muscle tissue. It’s during the time away from the weights, known as workout recovery period, that it actually grows.(所有锻炼都会给肌肉组织带来压力,甚至造成一定损伤。肌肉其实是在远离举重的时间里 —— 即锻炼恢复期 —— 生长的。)”可知,空格处需强调“除锻炼外的其他时间同样重要”。D项“The other 23 are just as essential, though.(不过,剩下的23个小时也同样关键。)”符合语境,“The other 23”对应上文“one hour”,“just as essential”引出下文“恢复期肌肉生长”的内容,承上启下。故选D项。
2.由上文“Workout recovery allows people to get the maximum benefit from workouts.(锻炼恢复能让人从锻炼中获得最大益处。)”和下文“Repeated again and again, this process of stress and recovery is what results in your improved health and fitness.(这种压力与恢复的过程反复进行,才能让你的健康和体能得到提升。)” B项“This is when your body repairs itself and becomes stronger.(这是身体自我修复、变得更强壮的时期。)”
3.由上文“If you’re experiencing burnout from strength training, the simplest way is a total break of exercise.(如果你在力量训练后感到疲惫,最简单的方法是完全暂停锻炼。)”和下文“You can also engage in a lower-intensity bike ride or walk for your body to circulate the waste products generated by the intense activity. Or try a gentle yoga practice to stretch out tired muscles.(你也可以进行低强度的自行车骑行或步行,让你的身体循环高强度活动产生的废物。或者尝试一种温和的瑜伽练习来伸展疲劳的肌肉。)”可知,空格处需举例说明“完全暂停锻炼”的具体做法。C项“Just lie on the bed and kick up your feet.(只需躺在床上,把脚翘起来休息即可。)”符合语境,“lie on the bed and kick up your feet”是“total break of exercise”的简单例子,Just体现“最简单的方法”,与下文“also”引出的其他方式形成并列,衔接自然。故选C项。
和下文“It involves using cups on the skin, creating a vacuum by heating and drawing the underlying tissues upward.(它通过在皮肤上放置杯子,加热制造真空环境,将深层组织向上吸起。)” G项“An ancient Chinese practice is well worth a mention.(一种中国古老的疗法很值得一提。)”
5.由下文“A whole-foods-based diet provides your body with the building blocks needed to repair muscles and promote recovery, setting off the right changes in your body between workouts. Plus, sleep is a must as it makes the body produce the majority of its growth factors. Avoid screen time and alcohol before bed to help ensure quality sleep.(以天然食物为基础的饮食为你的身体提供了修复肌肉和促进恢复所需的基石,在锻炼之间引发身体的正确变化。此外,睡眠是必须的,因为它使身体产生大部分生长因子。避免睡前看屏幕和饮酒,以帮助确保高质量的睡眠。)”可知,本段围绕“饮食、睡眠等营养与休息层面的恢复”展开,空格处需作为主题句点明核心。A项“Don’t skip nutritional recovery.(不要忽视营养恢复。)” 故选A项。
1.根据下文“The one everyone was talking about in the lunch line and on the walk home. (午餐排队时、放学回家的路上,所有人都在谈论它。)”可推测,这个生日派对得到很多人的关注。选项F“The birthday party was definitely to be one to remember. (这个生日派对绝对是值得记住的一场。)”符合下文对派对的具体描述,逻辑连贯。故选F。
2.根据下文““I’m sure it wasn’t personal,” I said softly. “Sometimes kids are only allowed to invite a few people.” But the words felt weak, like a Band-Aid on a big and deep cut. (“我肯定这不是针对你,”我轻声说,“有时候,孩子们只能邀请少数几个人。”可这些话苍白无力,就像在一道又深又大的伤口上贴了张创可贴。)”可知,作者觉得自己的这些话很无力,像在深伤口上贴创可贴。由此可推测,空格处应体现作者试图安慰女儿的动作。选项C“At first, I tried to say something to comfort her. (起初,我试着说些话安慰她。)”直接引出后文的安慰话语,符合“先尝试安慰,再描述安慰内容及效果”的逻辑顺序。故选C。
3.上文“This experience could have easily been about how to handle exclusion as a parent — how to build resilience (韧性). But what I've learned is less clean than that. (这段经历本可以变成一堂 “父母如何应对孩子被排斥、如何培养孩子韧性”的课程。但我从中领悟到的,远比这更复杂。)”指出这段经历本可以聚焦父母如何应对孩子被排斥、如何培养韧性,然而作者领悟到的更多;而下文“You can’t smooth every rough edge. Sometimes, your job is just to sit beside your kid in the thick of it. (你无法抚平生活所有的棱角,有时你的职责,不过是在孩子深陷困境时,静静陪在她身边。)”进一步说明父母有时候只能在困境中陪在孩子身边。选项B“Part of parenting is being powerless. (为人父母,有时本就有无能为力的时候。)”精准概括这一核心,衔接后文父母无法解决所有问题,只能陪伴的具体阐述,符合语境。故选B。
4.上文描述作者和女儿面对被排斥的当下感受与应对;而下文“She wrote a little note for the birthday kid. “Happy birthday,” it read. “Hope you have fun.” No bitterness. Just kindness. (女儿给举办生日派对的那个孩子写了张小纸条,上面写着:“生日快乐,愿你玩得开心。”没有丝毫怨怼,满是善意。)”转而讲述了女儿的善意之举。选项G“What surprised me most was what happened the next day. (最让我意外的是第二天发生的事。)”承上启下,既引出“后续事件”,又通过“surprised”暗示女儿行为的意外性,自然衔接后文的善意举动,逻辑转折合理。故选G。
5.上文“She never got that invitation. But what we gained quietly was something else: the chance to walk through disappointment together, hand in hand. (女儿终究没收到那场派对的邀请函。但我们却悄悄收获了别的东西:一次携手并肩、共同走过失望的机会。)”总结了虽然女儿没收到邀请,但母女俩共同获得了携手面对失望的机会。选项E“And that, to me, feels like something worth celebrating. (而在我看来,这份收获,足以值得庆祝。)”中“that”指代前文“共同面对失望的机会”,肯定了这段经历的意义,呼应全文“孩子教会父母智慧”的核心主旨,为文章收尾,情感积极且逻辑完整。故选E。
【答案】1.E 2.B 3.F 4.A 5.G
1.上文“AI should be seen as a powerful tool designed to assist and enhance human capabilities, rather than replace them.(人工智能应该被视为一种强大的工具,旨在辅助和增强人类的能力,而不是取代它们)”说明人工智能是一种工具,旨在辅助人类。
2.下文“In healthcare, AI can assist in early disease diagnosis and personalized treatment plans, significantly improving patient outcomes. In education, AI can provide personalized learning experiences, helping students learn at their own pace and in their own style.(在医疗保健领域,人工智能可以帮助早期疾病诊断和个性化治疗计划,显著改善患者的预后。在教育领域,人工智能可以提供个性化的学习体验,帮助学生按照自己的节奏和风格学习)”列举了人工智能在医疗、教育等多个领域的应用,说明人工智能对不同行业的影响。空处为本段的主旨句,所以B项“人工智能有潜力改变各个行业”是对后文内容的概括,空处与后文为总述和分述的关系。故选B。
3.下文“One major concern is the potential for job displacement, particularly in sectors where tasks are highly repetitive or data-driven. Besides, AI systems can continue errors present in their training data, leading to unfair results.(一个主要问题是工作岗位流失的可能性,特别是在任务高度重复或数据驱动的行业。此外,人工智能系统可能会继续存在训练数据中的错误,从而导致不公平的结果)”说明人工智能带来的风险,而前文第三段主要讲述了人工智能的优势,因此空处应起到承上启下的作用,引出人工智能的风险。所以F项“虽然人工智能带来了巨大的好处,但它也带来了重大的风险”符合语境,既承接了前文的优势,又引出了后文的风险。故选F。
4.上文“Besides, AI systems can continue errors present in their training data, leading to unfair results.(此外,人工智能系统可能会延续训练数据中存在的错误,导致不公平的结果)”说明人工智能的一个风险,下文“as AI systems often require large amounts of personal data to function effectively.(因为人工智能系统通常需要大量的个人数据才能有效运行)”解释了该风险的原因,空处和前文为并列关系,进一步说明人工智能系统存在的问题,并和下文形成因果关系。 故选A。
5.上文“Governments and organizations should establish clear guidelines and regulations to ensure that AI is developed and used responsibly.(政府和组织应该制定明确的指导方针和法规,以确保人工智能的开发和使用是负责任的)”说明需要制定规则确保人工智能合理使用,空处应进一步说明具体做法。
【答案】1.F 2.D 3.G 4.A 5.C
1.根据上文“Imagine this scenario: You’ve been working hard on a presentation for several weeks, but a co-worker jumps in and takes all the credit for your work. Instead of rightly speaking up, you choose to silently step back. (想象一下这样的场景:你几周来一直在努力准备一个报告,但一个同事跳出来,把你的功劳全抢走了。你没有正确地站出来说话,而是选择默默地退后。)”以及下文“Aside from our work life, avoiding conflict can manifest in our romantic relationships, friendships, and even family dynamics. (除了工作生活,避免冲突还会体现在我们的恋爱关系、友谊甚至家庭关系中。)”可知,上文描述了一个人在面对冲突时选择避免冲突的场景,下文提到逃避冲突在恋爱关系、友谊甚至家庭关系中也会出现,F选项“Being conflict avoidant means withdrawing from possible disagreements at all costs. (避免冲突意味着不惜一切代价避免可能的分歧。)”承上启下,对上文中的行为进行了总结,说明了避免冲突的含义,同时引出下文避免冲突在其它多个方面的体现。故选F项。
2.根据上文“Many of these tendencies can be traced back to growing up in an environment that was dismissive (鄙视的) or hypercritical. People who respond to conflict this way often expect negative outcomes and find it difficult to trust the other person’s reaction. (这些倾向中的许多都可以追溯到在一个轻视或过于挑剔的环境中成长。以这种方式应对冲突的人往往预期会有负面结果,并且发现很难相信对方的反应。)”可知,上文解释了人们会选择避免冲突的根源来自成长环境使他们存在负面预期和信任缺失,D选项“In other words, expressing your opinion firmly can seem pretty scary. (换句话说,坚定地表达自己的观点似乎相当可怕。)”,进一步解释了人们避免冲突的心理,即害怕表达自己的观点,与上文语意和逻辑一致。故选D项。
3.根据上文“Before confronting someone, try examining your feelings. (在面对某人之前,试着审视自己的感受。)”以及下文“You can try the following affirmations: “It’s OK to feel however I’m feeling at this moment — my emotions are valid.” “I am worthy and deserving of being heard.” (你可以尝试以下肯定句:‘此刻我有任何感受都是可以的——我的情绪是合理的。’‘我有价值,值得被倾听。’)”可知,上文建议审视自己的感受,下文给出了具体的肯定句来帮助处理情绪,G选项“Instead of holding back emotions, try looking at them through the lens of self-compassion. (与其压抑情绪,不如试着从自我同情的角度来看待它们。)”,承接上文,说明了要正确处理情绪,而不是压抑情绪,又与下文的自我肯定相呼应。故选G项。
4.根据上文“One last step before confronting someone is having a plan. Clearly define what you’d like to resolve. Then, write down canned, factual responses to use when needed, like “I worked late for the past two weeks while my co-worker didn’t turn in their share of the research.” (在面对某人之前的最后一步是制定计划。明确你想要解决的问题。然后,写下一些固定的、事实性的回答,以便在需要时使用,比如“过去两周我加班工作,而我的同事却没有提交他们那份研究报告。”)”可知,上文建议在面对冲突前要制定计划,并给出了具体的做法,A选项“Practise the key points you’d like to get across. (练习你想表达的关键点。)”,进一步给出了制定计划中的另一个具体做法,即练习要表达的关键点。故选A项。
5.根据下文“While it’s OK to never confront others, being able to resolve issues effectively means accepting it as a healthy part of communicating with others. Remember, disagreeing provides deeper understanding and makes it easier to connect with our friends, partners, and co-workers. (虽然永远不与他人对抗也没关系,但能够有效地解决问题意味着要接受这是与他人沟通的一个健康部分。记住,分歧能提供更深的理解,使与我们朋友、伴侣和同事的联系更容易。)”可知,下文强调了冲突在人际关系中的正常性以及处理冲突的重要性,C选项“Conflict is a normal part of our personal and professional lives. (冲突是我们个人生活和职业生活中正常的一部分。)”引出了下文的话题,即冲突的正常性。故选C项。

You should probably be feeling happy for him. D选项“Instead, a large number of uncomfortable feelings arise.
【答案】1.A 2.D 3.E 4.F 5.G
1.上文“The obvious solution would be to avoid comparing ourselves to the people around us.(显而易见的解决办法是避免将自己与周围的人进行比较)”提到,解决办法是避免将自己与周围的人进行比较,结合下文“Humans are social creatures, and our standing within a group would have serious consequences for our welfare. As a result, we unavoidably use others as a measure of our success.(人类是社会动物,我们在群体中的地位会对我们的福利产生严重的影响。因此,我们不可避免地把别人作为衡量自己成功的标准)”可知,人类是社会动物,我们不可避免地把别人作为衡量自己成功的标准,因此“避免将自己与周围的人进行比较”这一办法很难做到,A项“但说起来容易做起来难”符合语境,故选A。
2.上一段末句“This can kill satisfaction we’ve gained from our achievements.(这会扼杀我们从成就中获得的满足感)”提到,和别人进行比较会扼杀我们从成就中获得的满足感,下文“The relative ranking of people’s earnings, compared with friends or coworkers, matters more for life satisfaction than how much they earn.(与朋友或同事相比,人们收入的相对排名对生活满意度的影响比他们收入的多少更大)”通过收入的例子说明上文观点,D项“我们可以从人们如何看待自己的收入中看到这一点”承上启下,符合语境,故选D。
3.上文“Envy may be worsened by a ‘focusing illusion (幻想)’.(嫉妒可能会因‘聚焦幻想’而恶化)”提到“聚焦幻想”,空处应是解释其含义,E项“它描述的是专注于某人生活的某一方面”符合语境,且和下文“We imagine that our successful friend is living in a constant state of joy, and forget that they have to face everyday difficulties like an argument with their partner or the death of a pet.(我们想象我们成功的朋友一直生活在快乐的状态中,而忘记了他们必须面对日常的困难,比如与伴侣的争吵或宠物的死亡)”内容相吻合,故选E。
5.根据上文“When we are feeling bitter, we might also interpret others’ achievements as evidence that our own goals are achievable. Try remembering all the things within your control, and make a step-by-step plan of how you might achieve that.(当我们感到痛苦时,我们可能也会把别人的成就解释为我们自己的目标可以实现的证据。试着记住你能控制的所有事情,然后制定一个循序渐进的计划)”可知,此处是说用别人的成就激励自己,这是描述嫉妒的积极意义,G项“从这个意义上说,嫉妒会激励你采取积极的行动”符合语境,故选G。
【答案】1.C 2.A 3.E 4.G 5.F
1.上文“Is studying 12 hours a day possible? This is a question that many students ask themselves when faced with a heavy workload or upcoming exams. (一天学习12个小时可能吗?这是许多学生在面对繁重的课业或即将到来的考试时都会问自己的问题。)”提出问题,和下文“It’s important to assess your own capabilities and limitations. (评估自己的能力和局限性是很重要的。)”可知能否坚持一天学习12个小时应该受到很多因素的影响,C选项“答案既是肯定的也是否定的,因为这取决于几个因素。”回答上文提出的问题,指出能否坚持一天学习12个小时受到几个因素的影响,符合语境。故选C。
2.根据下文“Our brains need time to rest and recharge in order to store information. (为了储存信息,我们的大脑需要时间休息和充电。)”可推知上文应强调休息的重要性,所以A选项“此外,定期休息是至关重要的。”符合题意,能够引出下文休息的内容。故选A。
3.根据上文“Moreover, creating a structured schedule and sticking to it can help maximize productivity. (此外,创建一个结构化的时间表并坚持下去可以帮助最大限度地提高效率。)”可推知下文说明要如何制定计划,E选项“为每个学习时段设定具体目标,并一路跟踪你的进展。”符合语境。故选E。
4.根据上文“One of the biggest challenges when it comes to studying for long hours is maintaining concentration. It’s easy to get distracted or lose focus when you’re spending extended periods of time studying. (长时间学习的最大挑战之一是保持注意力集中。当你花很长时间学习时,很容易分心或失去注意力。) ”和下文“Create a good study environment. Find a quiet and comfortable place where you won’t be easily disturbed. (创造良好的学习环境。找一个安静舒适的地方,不容易被打扰。)”可知G选项“然而,通过一些策略,你可以长时间专注地学习。”符合语境,和上文构成转折,并且引出下文长时间专注地学习的策略,承上启下。故选G。
5.根据下文“This could include reminder devices, mind maps, or even teaching the material to others. (这可以包括提醒装置,思维导图,甚至把材料教给别人。通过积极地参与内容,你会发现更容易长时间集中注意力。)”可知这些都是一些学习技巧,F选项“此外,使用各种学习技巧来保持自己的学习投入。”符合题意,“This”指代选项中的“use various study techniques”。故选F。
【答案】1.B 2.E 3.C 4.F 5.D

2.根据前文“Time is our most scarce (稀缺) resource. Poor or rich, we all have 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.(时间是我们最稀缺的资源。无论贫穷还是富有,我们都有一天24小时,一周7天)”以及后文“In a world of scarcity, choosing one thing means not being able to do something else.(在一个稀缺的世界里,选择一件事就意味着不能做其他的事)”可知,此处讲述时间稀缺,应该如何选择度过,所以E项“Thus, each of us faces the choice of how to spend our time.(因此,我们每个人都面临着如何度过时间的选择)”符合本段主题,和前文构成因果关系。故选E项。
3.设空位于段首,为本段中心句,根据后文“Time is relatively scarce for people with higher incomes, partly because their time is more valuable. So, to have lots of time, rich people hire other people to do their household chores. However, a non-working person may spend more time on household chores.(对于收入高的人来说,时间相对来说是稀缺的,部分原因是他们的时间更有价值。所以,为了有更多的时间,富人会雇人帮他们做家务。然而,一个不工作的人可能会花更多的时间在家务上)”可知,本段主要讲述了每个人的时间价值不同,所以C项“The value of time varies from person to person.(时间的价值因人而异)”符合本段主题,为中心句。故选C项。
4.根据前文“Time cannot be stored. One of the reasons we give little thought about how we use our limited resources is that we cannot save time. Time moves on whether we choose to spend it or not.(时间是无法储存的。我们很少考虑如何使用有限的资源的原因之一是我们无法储存时间。不管我们是否愿意花时间,时间都在流逝)”可知,此处讲述时间无法储存,所以F项“You can’t bottle time and exchange it for an object or event.(你不能把时间装在瓶子里,然后用它来交换一个对象或事件)”符合本段主题。故选F项。

2.根据上文“One misconception about creativity is that it is reserved for a few special people. This is not true. (关于创造力的一个误解是,它是为少数特殊的人保留的。这不是真的。)”可知,上文提到只有少数特殊的人有创造力的观点是错的,故设空处进一步说明“多少人有创造力”,C项:Everyone has the capacity to be creative.

1.根据上文“Life is a series of ups and downs, and along the way, we often make mistakes. It's crucial to remember that no one is perfect and we all fall at times.”(生活是一系列的起起落落,在这条路上,我们经常会犯错误。 以及下文“Instead, let's shift our mindset and learn to embrace our imperfections as opportunities for growth.”(相反,让我们转变我们的心态,学会接受我们的不完美作为成长的机会。) We shouldn’t beat ourselves up over our errors.(我们不应该为自己的错误自责。)
2.根据上文“As we all know, a butterfly emerges from its cocoon (茧).”(我们都知道,蝴蝶破茧而出。) 以及下文“Reflect on the lessons learned from each mistake and the wisdom gained along the way.”(反思从每个错误中吸取的教训和一路上获得的智慧。) We too can transform and develop through our errors.(我们也可以从错误中得到转变和发展。) 故选A项。
3.根据上文“Take a moment to appreciate your unique characteristics and qualities that make you who you are.”(花点时间欣赏自己独特的性格和品质,正是这些让你成为了现在的自己。) 以及下文“Celebrate these strengths and recognize that they contribute to your individuality.”(赞美这些优点,并认识到它们有助于你的个性。) Are you trustworthy, creative, or a great problemsolver?(你是值得信赖的,有创造力的,还是一个伟大的问题解决者?)

1.上文“Think back to your last presentation.(回想一下你上次的演讲。)”提到了回想上一次的演讲;下文“And were they engaged in what you were saying?(他们参与了你所说的吗?)” B项“Were people interested?(人们感兴趣吗?)”
2.上文“With a visual aid, you tend to look back and read what you have already written.(最讨厌的演讲习惯也是最容易成为受害者的习惯之一。有了视觉辅助,你倾向于回顾和阅读你已经写过的东西。)”提到了有了视觉辅助,会倾向于回顾和阅读已经写过的东西;下文“By reading your slides, you show no additional information, and therefore give your audience no reason to keep listening once they have finished reading the slide themselves.(通过阅读你的幻灯片,你没有展示额外的信息,因此给你的听众没有理由继续听,一旦他们自己看完幻灯片。)” G项“However, all this shows is that you can do what your audience can as well.(然而,所有这些都表明,你做了你的观众能做的事情。)”
3.上文“One guideline I find especially effective is to ensure each slide has no more than six main points, and no more than six words per point.(我发现一个特别有效的指导方针是确保每张幻灯片不超过6个要点,每个要点不超过6个单词。)” D项“This stops you overloading your slides with information.(这样可以防止幻灯片上的信息过多。)”中的this与上文ensure each slide has no more than six main points, and no more than six words per point对应。故选D项。
4.设空处位于段首,下文“The more prepared you are, the better you can effectively avoid sounding like you’ve never even heard of your topic before.(你准备得越充分,你就越能有效地避免听起来好像你以前从未听说过你的话题。)” F项“Avoiding another annoying habit comes down to one factor: preparation.(避免另一个恼人的习惯可以归结为一个因素:准备。)”
5.设空处位于段末,上文“The third most annoying habit was using many “umms” and “uhhs”, a symptom of not communicating effectively. This could be a result of stage fright, but more often than not these interjections (感叹词) happen unconsciously.(第三个最讨厌的习惯是不停地“嗯”和“啊”,这是沟通效率低下的表现。这可能是怯场的结果,但更多的时候,这些感叹词是在无意识中发生的。)”提到了一些无意识发生的感叹词,可知,空处要说明这些词产生的不好影响。E项“Despite how innocent they seem, they can ruin your credibility.(不管他们看起来多么无辜,他们都会毁掉你的信誉。)”

1.上文“Here is some good news for those hating summer heat-July is National Ice Cream Month!( 对于那些讨厌酷暑的人来说,这里有一些好消息——7月是全国冰淇淋月!)”
2.上文“The first record of milk-based ice cream, made using heated milk, and flour, came from China’s Tang dynasty. However, the Arabs are regarded as inventing the modern type, using milk and sugar in the 9th century. By the 10th century, a delicious frozen treat using milk, cream, rosewater, dried fruits, and nuts was extremely popular in Baghdad, Damascus, and Cairo.Europeans discovered the icy treat in the 16th century.(第一个以牛奶为原料的冰淇淋的记录来自中国的唐朝,它使用加热的牛奶和面粉制成。然而,人们认为是阿拉伯人在9世纪发明了现代的牛奶和糖。到了10世纪,一种用牛奶、奶油、玫瑰水、干果和坚果制成的美味冷冻食品在巴格达、大马士革和开罗非常流行。欧洲人在16世纪发现了这种冰的吃食。)”讲述了冰淇淋在世界各地的发展历史,下文“The dessert was first mentioned in 1744,when Maryland Governor Thomas Bladen served strawberry ice cream to guests.(这种甜点首次出现是在1744年,当时马里兰州州长托马斯·布莱登向客人提供草莓冰淇淋。)”
3.下文“An estimated $6 billion is spent annually on the treat, and the numbers are even higher if restaurant sales are included. (据估计,每年在这方面的花费为60亿美元,如果算上餐馆的销售额,这个数字会更高。)”说明冰淇淋消耗量很大,E项中的“the world’s largest ice cream consumers”符合,E项“美国人现在是世界上最大的冰淇淋消费者之一。”为最佳答案,引出下文的解释,故选E。
