It’s Saturday. You step inside a comfortable, creative studio. The host asks you to take your seat in front of the vintage (复古) typewriter that calls to you.
The host is Daniella Zanchi, founder of Poesy, a Canadian company that holds monthly poetry and letter writing workshops. “We go through basics of poetry writing,” says Ms. Zanchi, “or we’ll focus on how to write a poem drawn from the conversation with others.” Everyone gets a handout with three prompts (提示). “We encourage them to write two sentences per prompt, and then we teach them to cut the extra words and do what we call ‘mining for gold’,” she says. Once they’ve found their “gold,” — the best bits in their free writing — they start typing.
“The typewriter requires you to slow down, because, unlike a laptop, you need to type with one finger at a time,” says Ms. Zanchi, “so you have more time to think about what you put on the page.”
As an object that requires focus, the typewriter is central to the workshop’s appeal. “It allows people to unplug, learn to use something new, and create something by hand,” she says.
People leave with two poems: one they write for themselves, and one written about them by someone else in the room. Every element of the workshop can be surprisingly satisfying, especially for those who tend to speed through their daily life, addicted to screens. After all, the workshop isn’t just about writing poetry — it’s also about rediscovering what it feels like to create something without a delete button, giving yourself permission to be imperfect.
Writing poetry has mental health benefits, similar to those of journaling. It allows people to release thoughts and feelings onto a page and reflect on them intentionally.
Beyond the individual benefits, the workshop offers a special experience. “We’ve seen genuine connections come from a space designed to encourage story-sharing and openness,” says Ms. Zanchi. It sounds like the perfect subject for a poem.
24. What are participants guided to do in Ms. Zanchi’s workshops?
A. Run writing workshops. B. Find the best parts of their sentences.
C. Design writing prompts. D. Learn advanced typing techniques.
25. What makes vintage typewriters attractive to participants?
A. Encouraging focused creation. B. Helping reduce spelling mistakes.
C. Simplifying poem writing rules. D. Speeding up the thinking process.
26. What does the author suggest by mentioning “create something without a delete button” in paragraph 5?
A. Modern tools limit creativity. B. Imperfection is acceptable in creation.
C. Careful typing ensures better results. D. Perfection calls for repeated revisions.
27. What is the value of the poetry-writing workshop?
A. Working for professional writers. B. Teaching advanced poem writing skills.
C. Bringing personal and shared gains. D. Increasing the popularity of poems online.
B 25. A 26. B 27. C
根据文章第二段中的““We encourage them to write two sentences per prompt, and then we teach them to cut the extra words and do what we call ‘mining for gold’,” she says. Once they’ve found their “gold,” — the best bits in their free writing — they start typing.( “我们鼓励他们根据每个提示写两句话,然后教他们删去多余的内容,进行我们所说的‘淘金’。”她说。一旦他们找到了自己的“黄金”——即自由写作中最精彩的部分——就开始打字了)”可知,工作坊会指导参与者删减多余的词汇,找到他们自由写作的句子中最精华、最好的部分(即“沙里淘金”)。
【25题详解】
细节理解题。 根据文章第四段首句“As an object that requires focus, the typewriter is central to the workshop’s appeal.(作为一个需要专注的物品,打字机是工作坊吸引力的核心)”可知,复古打字机之所以对参与者有吸引力,是因为它能促使人们保持专注进行创作。
根据文章第五段中的“After all, the workshop isn’t just about writing poetry — it’s also about rediscovering what it feels like to create something without a delete button, giving yourself permission to be imperfect.(毕竟,这个工作坊不仅仅关乎写诗——它也在于重新体验在没有删除键的情况下创作是什么感受,允许自己不完美)”可知,作者提到“没有删除键”是为了说明在这样的创作过程中,人们可以放下对完美的执念,接受创作中的不完美。
根据文章第六段提到的“Writing poetry has mental health benefits, similar to those of journaling.(写诗有益于心理健康,其益处与写日记类似)” 属于个人层面的收获;根据第七段提到的“Beyond the individual benefits, the workshop offers a special experience. “We’ve seen genuine connections come from a space designed to encourage story-sharing and openness,” says Ms. Zanchi.(除了个人受益之外,这个工作坊还带来一种独特的体验。“我们看到,通过一个鼓励分享故事和开放交流的空间,人们建立了真挚的联系,”Zanchi女士说)”可知,除了个人益处,还能通过分享故事建立真正的人际联系,属于人际共享层面的收获,因此该工作坊的价值在于能给参与者带来个人和共同的收获。

When measuring the impacts of climate change, we typically focus on visible signs: rising temperatures, hurricane winds, or flood extents. However, the silent yet significant effects of climate change on the human brain are only now starting to be understood.
Extreme heat has been tied to worsening symptoms (症状) and increased hospitalizations across a range of nervous system and mental conditions. The same pollutants that scar the lungs may cross into brain tissue, speeding the machinery of aging or increasing the risk of diseases like dementia (痴呆症). Children are particularly vulnerable (易受伤害的) because their brains are still developing. Even being exposed to a traumatic (创伤性的) climate event before birth can change the structure of developing brains, resulting in a higher risk of behavioral disorders later in life.
Unfortunately, these damaging effects remain largely invisible. The suffering is real, but the causes are often unknown. A teenager unable to concentrate during a heat wave in an apartment without air conditioning; a grandfather whose dementia worsens during a power failure: These are not just projections; they are happening all around us.
This brings us to the concept of “neuroclimate vulnerability” — the risk of the human brain to the side effects of climate change. This risk is shaped by age, existing medical conditions, and socioeconomic factors that determine whether a person can cool down or breathe clean air. For those facing multiple risk factors, the danger multiplies greatly.
The greatest challenge in addressing this issue is time. While some consequences emerge quickly as changes in mood or sleep, others, such as Parkinson’s disease (帕金森病), may begin decades before symptoms appear. This makes it extraordinarily difficult to connect today’s environmental exposures with tomorrow’s disease. Worse still, the communities most exposed to this risk are often absent from the clinical studies on which future policies will be built.
This invisibility is not unavoidable. Once the harm is named, it can be measured, and if measured, it can be reduced. To achieve this, scientists from various fields have formed the International Neuro Climate Working Group (INCWG). Their goal is to develop practical tools, such as the Brain Vulnerability and Resilience (复原力) Index, to identify those at greatest risk and guide investments. Climate change is already reshaping our brains. The question is whether we will act now to build resilience and change the future for future generations.
28. How does the author develop paragraph 2?
A. By presenting findings. B. By giving definitions.
C. By making comparisons. D. By quoting comments.
29. What does the underlined word “projections” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. Records. B. Facts. C. Predictions. D. Sufferings.
30. What is the main idea of paragraph 5?
A. The factors behind future policies.
B. The reasons for quick mood changes.
C. The features of slow-developing diseases.
D. The difficulties of environmental-risk research.
31. What does the INCWG aim to do?
A. Study mood changes. B. Promote climate awareness.
C. Collect related brain data. D. Create risk-evaluating tools.
A 29. C 30. D 31. D

根据第二段中的“Extreme heat has been tied to worsening symptoms (症状) and increased hospitalizations across a range of nervous system and mental conditions. The same pollutants that scar the lungs may cross into brain tissue, speeding the machinery of aging or increasing the risk of diseases like dementia (痴呆症).(极端高温与一系列神经系统和精神疾病的症状恶化和住院人数增加有关。那些给肺部留下疤痕的污染物可能进入脑组织,加速衰老进程或增加痴呆症等疾病风险)”和“Even being exposed to a traumatic (创伤性的) climate event before birth can change the structure of developing brains, resulting in a higher risk of behavioral disorders later in life.(甚至在出生前接触创伤性气候事件都可能改变发育中的大脑结构,导致日后出现行为障碍的风险升高)”可知,第二段列举多项研究发现来阐述气候变化对大脑的危害。
根据第三段中的“These are not just projections; they are happening all around us.(这些不仅仅是projections;它们正在我们身边真实发生)”,分号前后形成对比,说明这些情况不是预想的推测,而是现实正在发生的事,projections含义为“预测”。
根据第五段中的“The greatest challenge in addressing this issue is time. While some consequences emerge quickly as changes in mood or sleep, others, such as Parkinson’s disease (帕金森病), may begin decades before symptoms appear.(解决该问题最大的挑战是时间。一些后果会快速表现为情绪或睡眠变化,而另一些疾病,例如帕金森病,可能在症状出现前数十年就已经开始发展)”可知,本段主要讲述环境风险研究面临的困难。
【31题详解】
细节理解题。根据第六段中的“Their goal is to develop practical tools, such as the Brain Vulnerability and Resilience (复原力) Index, to identify those at greatest risk and guide investments.(他们的目标是研发实用工具,例如大脑脆弱性与复原力指数,以此识别高风险人群并指导资源投入)”可知,INCWG旨在研发风险评估工具。
D
Every generation worries that the next is growing distant from classical culture. The proposed solutions are consistently the same: teach more history, assign more classics, build more museums and preserve more heritage. Yet, the anxiety never disappears.
Perhaps that is because we keep mistaking preservation for passing culture on. Culture survives not because it is protected, but because it is rediscovered. And rediscovery begins not with duty but with curiosity.
I learned this from a video game. As a child, I struggled through Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Years later, I found myself playing a strategy game set in the Three Kingdoms period. For the first time, history became immersive rather than instructional. Soon I was searching historical records, comparing fact with fiction, reading Records of the Three Kingdoms, and eventually writing a song about Sun Shangxiang.
That should tell us something. For decades, educators have debated how to convince young people that classical culture matters. Many creators have quietly found an answer: they stopped trying to persuade and started making culture appealing.
The medium is not the point. Curiosity is. This realization shaped my work when I began writing my first solo album (专辑), drawing inspiration from figures including Marco Polo. When I decided to write a song about him, I did not want to summarize his travels. Instead, I immersed myself in the details of his journey. Such creative choices do not explain history immediately. Actually, they invite listeners to wonder about their origins. Curiosity is more powerful than explanation because it drives people to explore.
The purpose of art is to inspire questions, not give instructions. That is how classical culture survives. Not by demanding respect, but by rewarding curiosity. Creators often speak about preserving tradition, but preservation is only the beginning. Our responsibility is not to seal the past behind glass cases, but to make it resonate (共鸣) in the present — through film, games, music, animation, short videos or whatever form allows a new generation to encounter it as something living rather than distant. The bridge matters more than the memorial.
32. How does culture survive according to the author?
A. Through regular history lectures. B. Through strict heritage protection.
C. Through new-angle exploration. D. Through frequent museum tours.
33. What was the main effect of the video game experience on the author?
A. He showed more interest in fiction. B. He chose to visit historic sites.
C. He became deeply engaged in history. D. He began to write history books.
34. Why did the author avoid summarizing Marco Polo’s travels in the song?
A. To keep it short and simple. B. To avoid describing complex contents.
C. To highlight his contributions. D. To make listeners curious about his journey.
35. What is the best title for the text?
A. Stimulate Curiosity to Build the Bridge B. Make Art a Gateway to Classical Culture
C. Rewrite History with Creative Works D. Preserve Heritage for Future Generations
C 33. C 34. D 35. A
根据第二段中的“Culture survives not because it is protected, but because it is rediscovered. And rediscovery begins not with duty but with curiosity. (文化的存续并非因为被保护,而是因为它被重新发现。而重新发现并非始于责任,而是始于好奇心。)”以及第五段提到的“Curiosity is more powerful than explanation because it drives people to explore. (好奇心比解释更强大,因为它驱使人们去探索。)”可知,作者认为文化通过激发好奇心、从新的角度去探索和重新发现来延续,而非单纯的保护或说教。
【33题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段中的“For the first time, history became immersive rather than instructional. Soon I was searching historical records, comparing fact with fiction, reading Records of the Three Kingdoms, and eventually writing a song about Sun Shangxiang. (历史第一次变得身临其境,而非说教式的。很快,我开始查阅史料,比对史实与虚构,阅读《三国志》,最终还写了一首关于孙尚香的歌。)”可知,电子游戏的体验让作者从被动接受变为主动探索,深深地沉浸并参与到历史学习中。
【34题详解】
细节理解题。根据第五段中的“When I decided to write a song about him, I did not want to summarize his travels. Instead, I immersed myself in the details of his journey. Such creative choices do not explain history immediately. Actually, they invite listeners to wonder about their origins.
最后一段总结“Our responsibility is not to seal the past behind glass cases, but to make it resonate (共鸣) in the present — through film, games, music, animation, short videos or whatever form allows a new generation to encounter it as something living rather than distant. The bridge matters more than the memorial.(我们的责任不是将过去封存在玻璃展柜中,而是让它在当下产生共鸣——可以通过电影、游戏、音乐、动画、短视频,或是任何能让新一代人将其视为鲜活存在而非遥远历史的形式。桥梁比纪念碑更为重要。)”指出,传承古典文化的关键不是单纯的保护,而是激发人们的好奇心,搭建起当代人与古典文化之间的连接桥梁,让古典文化鲜活地存在于当下。A选项“Stimulate Curiosity to Build the Bridge (激发好奇心,搭建桥梁)”最能概括文章主旨。

Inspire Yourself: Simple Steps to Creative Renewal
Oftentimes, people find themselves waiting for inspiration to strike like lightning from some external force. But this kind of waiting is useless, because true inspiration does not live outside of us. It comes from within. ____36____
The word “inspire” comes from a Latin word meaning “to breathe or blow into”. Each inhale (吸入) draws in vitality; each exhale (呼出) releases what we no longer need. ____37____ When we breathe with intention, we nourish all the neglected (被忽视的) corners of our inner and outer worlds.
Nature has been a source of inspiration for people throughout time. ____38____ The important key here is that to be inspired by nature, you have to be in nature. Notice the weather, the feel of the air, or any smells. Inspiration is always around us, the key is to stay tuned in enough to become sensitive and aware of it.
Furthermore, every time we have a new experience, we become more inspired. When we fall into routines, we are going through daily tasks without thinking. ____39____ Instead, you can listen to a new song, or visit a new place. This practice will stimulate different parts of your brain, and have you seeing and thinking in new ways.
Finally, we often draw inspiration from observing and engaging in creative expression. Watching a play in person can be extremely rewarding. This kind of experience reaches deep within us, touching the core of what it truly means to be human. Observing others as they express themselves puts us more in touch with our own creative nature. ____40____
It is not uncommon to feel resistance before beginning any one of these things. However, once you take the first step and start, you will find that in that moment inspiration will bloom inside you.
A. It is the first thing we do when we enter this world.
B. Although this can be comforting, it can also be boring.
C. As Van Gogh put it, “The sight of stars makes me dream.”
D. In this way, inspiration is a cycle of receiving and releasing.
E. It begins the moment we turn inward and choose to awaken it.

上文“But this kind of waiting is useless, because true inspiration does not live outside of us. It comes from within.(但这样的等待毫无用处,因为真正的灵感并不存在于我们身外。它源自内心。)”否定灵感来自外部,点明灵感源于人的内在,E项“当我们转向内心、选择唤醒灵感的那一刻,灵感就开始产生。”承接前文,完成从“否定外部来源”到“引出下文方法”的过渡。
【37题详解】
上文“Each inhale (吸入) draws in vitality; each exhale (呼出) releases what we no longer need.(每一次吸气汲取活力;每一次呼气,释放我们不再需要的东西。)”
根据上文“Nature has been a source of inspiration for people throughout time.(长久以来,大自然一直是人类灵感的源泉。)”和下文“The important key here is that to be inspired by nature, you have to be in nature.(这里关键一点:想要从自然中获得灵感,你必须置身自然。)”
根据上文“When we fall into routines, we are going through daily tasks without thinking.(当我们陷入一成不变的日常,只是机械地完成日常事务,不再思考。)”和下文“Instead, you can listen to a new song, or visit a new place.(相反,你可以听一首新歌,或是去一个新地方。)”
根据上文“Observing others as they express themselves puts us more in touch with our own creative nature.(观看他人表达自我,能让我们更好地发掘自身的创造天性。)”

Should we use AI to polish up our compositions?
Nowadays, with the rapid development of technology, a number of students turn to AI to polish up their English compositions. From my point of view, AI brings considerable benefits to our English writing .
For one thing, AI can efficiently spot grammar mistakes and polish awkward expressions, helping us learn more authentic ways of writing. For another, it provides instant feedback for our self-study. With its help, we can ease our fear of English writing and gradually build up our confidence.
To sum up, we should embrace new technology wisely. Properly used, AI will serve as a powerful helper in our writing practice.
Should we use AI to polish up our compositions?
With the rapid development of technology, numerous students depend on AI to polish up their English compositions. From my individual perspective, the drawbacks outweigh its benefits.
To begin with, the high efficiency of AI robs us of the valuable chance to reflect on our writings and weakens our willingness to revise them independently, leading to over-reliance in the long term. In addition, writing is meant to convey our true inner feelings. Compositions polished by AI may sound fancy in language but lack our genuine thoughts.
Therefore, we ought to improve our compositions through continuous practice rather than turn to AI for assistance.

Jean and John were the proud owners of a popular general store in the small, quiet town of Emerald Forest. Nestled near dense forests and crystal-clear lakes, their cozy shop served both locals and tourists. However, one cold morning, their peaceful routine was suddenly shattered. Upon arriving at work, they found an unwelcome surprise in the candy department: sweets were scattered across the counter, and boxes of chocolates had been violently torn open, leaving a sticky mess!
Puzzled and frustrated, they checked the rest of the store. Amazingly, nothing else was out of place. There was no sign of forced entry; the doors and windows were all securely locked. “Perhaps it was squirrels?” Jean suggested hopefully. But John shook his head, pointing out that squirrels couldn’t possibly have opened the front door. After a day of fruitless guessing, they concluded it must be rats. Determined to catch the thief, John set a trap and placed it near the candy display.
The next morning, they found similar evidence of a break-in, but the rat trap remained completely untouched. Realizing the intruder (闯入者) was far cleverer than they had thought, Jean suggested installing (安装) a hidden camera. A technician quickly set up the equipment, and they waited anxiously for the night to pass.
The following day, they rushed to check the recordings, expecting to see a raccoon (浣熊) or a particularly large rat. The scene on the screen left them absolutely speechless. Staring at the recordings, Jean froze all at once, breath held in her throat. John bent forward, eyes wide and brows raised high. Neither could believe their eyes when watching the unexpected intruder come and go again and again. Too surprised to say a single word, they were filled with a strong feeling of doubt about the strange sight on screen.

It was a young bear, targeting their store for his nightly meals! In the video, the bear pushed open the door with its claws, walked straight to the candy shelf, and stuffed its mouth with chocolates again and again. It even sat down, licking its sticky paws with satisfaction, completely unaware of being watched. “Look, he is not stealing; he is just hungry,” Jean whispered, her shock turning into amusement. John stared with wide eyes and could not help laughing, “I have never seen such a cute thief. Luckily it was not a real robber.” Watching the funny scene, they finally relaxed.
Instead of frightening the bear away, they decided to treat it outside the store. First, John called a locksmith to fix the broken lock so that real thieves could not get in. Then they put a basket of fresh apples and honey on a rock far from the door, hoping the little bear would find it. The next morning, the basket was empty, and the candy shelf was left untouched. From then on, they refilled the basket every day, and the bear came for its treat instead of breaking in. Jean smiled as she realized that a little kindness had solved the mystery in such an unexpected way.

I know it's the end of the day and we are all eager to begin our holiday, but before we go, i'd like to take a moment to look back at what we've achieved together this year. Since the summer, we have been focusing our efforts on an ambitious goal, developing three new products by the end of the year, and here we are just before the end of november. Mission already accomplished. As your general manager, I couldn't be prouder to congratulate this incredible team now for some good news. After the discussions with the board, i'm pleased to announce that everyone will be receiving a special holiday gift. Well, last year, we celebrated with extra vacation days. This year, you'll find something even Better in your paychecks, a holiday bonus that's double last year's amount. This reflects our outstanding product development and sales performance, but more importantly, IT recognizes the exceptional teamwork i've witnessed every day. May I have your attention, please?

F. This may mean writing a poem or story, drawing, painting, or dancing.
G. As Mountain Dreamer says, “It’s unfamiliar things that stimulate my imagination.”
