What value do I have now?” Mr. White gave Bob a stone and said to him, “Take it to the market, but don’t sell it no matter how much money they pay you.”

The next day in Center Market, the people would buy it at a much higher price. But Bob wouldn’t sell it.
The third day, Bob took the stone to Street Market. This time, the people there offered a price which was ten times higher than that in Green Market. But Bob wouldn’t sell it.

For children, when they read about cultural monuments(文化古迹) and natural scenic spots(景点) in textbooks, they often become interested in them and want to go there in person. So a new form of tourism appeared. That is “textbook tour”. The textbook tour has been popular since 2023. It allows children to deepen their understanding of the scenes(场景) mentioned in textbooks.
Many families have taken part in the textbook tours. They are inspired by the stories in the textbooks to choose where to take trips. They can experience different cultures and historical stories. For example, in Fuzhou, parents and children can watch lively shows and visit the Opera Museum to learn more about Tang Xianzu, a great opera writer from the Ming Dynasty.
The textbook tour is a connection between “reading thousands of books” and “travelling thousands of miles”, which can connect knowledge with practice. Through the experience, children can have a deeper understanding of the stories in their textbooks and further increase their sense of identity(身份) and pride in the motherland. Besides, parents can also learn about traditional Chinese culture from the tour, and the trip can improve the relationship between parents and children.
The rise of the textbook tour is a great chance for the connection between culture and tourism. For example, the Wenchuan government held some activities in the birthplace of Dayu, where history teachers would introduce “Dayu culture” to tourists. As the textbook tour becomes popular, the local governments should offer good service to achieve a win-win situation for both scenic spots and tourists.
19. What is the main purpose of the “textbook tour” mentioned in the text?
A. It introduces children to famous landmarks.

21. What can parents and children get through the “textbook tour”?
①Children will be proud of their country.
②Parents can make clear their sense of identity.
③Children might spend more time reading textbooks.
④Parents can have a better relationship with their children.
A. ①② B. ②③ C. ③④ D. ①④
22. Which of the following would the writer agree with?
A. Wenchuan is usually the first stop on textbook tours.
B. Cultural tourism can be developed by textbook tours.
C. The appearance of textbook tours is mainly to improve tourism.
D. Textbook tours are so popular thanks to the government’s support.
C
The Internet is a great place for us to talk freely, but it’s also a place where our language skills are getting worse. A recent survey by China Youth Daily found that over 76% of young people in China feel their Chinese language skills are worse than before. They don’t use rhetorical techniques (修辞手法) as often anymore.
People think this is because Internet emojis (表情符号) have changed the habits of how young people talk to each other. For example, when someone sees something hilarious online, they might just write “hahaha” or use the “cry-laugh” emoji. A teacher from Fuzhou tells the news that people are using fewer words nowadays. For example, young people hardly describe photos with words. They can just share them with others with an emoji to show their feelings.
Also, “copy and paste” (复制粘贴) culture is getting popular. People often use words they find online without thinking much about it. Many start using the same words and sentences, such as “...yyds” (which means “...is/are the best”).
Experts are worried about this situation (情况). First, if this keeps happening, it could change our way of thinking. Second, when we use words without thinking, we will become too lazy to show our real feelings. Last, if teenagers keep using emojis, they might not be able to use words well anymore.
To get better at language, experts say we should try to think on our own and create our own way of talking. They also say we should read more books and stories. Professor Shen from Fudan University says, “Keep using different words to show your special feelings.”
23. What is the survey of China Youth Daily about?
A. Rhetorical techniques. B. Places on the Internet.
C. Young people’s feelings. D. Chinese language skills.
24. What does the underlined word “hilarious” mean?
A. Funny. B. Different. C. Important. D. Educational.
25. What will happen if young people keep using language in this way?
A. They will have bad feelings.
B. They will become lazy at work.
C. They will not use emojis anymore.
D. They will not use language in a good way.
26. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. Emojis are bad for our body and mind.
B. Too much Internet hurts language use.
C. Different words help show special feelings.
D. Reading helps people become better at language.

When you watch your favorite movies, you might not think about science. Of course, there’s a lot of science behind movies like Interstellar or The Martian but not movies like Frozen or The Avengers, right? Think again.
Animated (动画) movies use a lot of science and math to make things look as real as possible. For example, snow was used in many parts of the movie Frozen, but making the snow look real was a challenge. The snow needed to act differently in different situations, like if it was melting (融化) or blowing in the wind.
Mathematicians (数学家) had to create a computer program to make the snow look more natural. Joseph Teran, a mathematician at the University of California, US, faced this challenge with Frozen, according to the Society for Science and the Public.
He and his team used math equations (等式) to treat snow like many different pieces instead of one large thing, as movies had done in the past. They worked for months to make a computer program do this.
Science is important for superhero movies, too. Superheroes are supposed to have special powers that can’t always be explained. But movie makers still want to make their actions realistic (现实的).
For example, Raychelle Burks, a chemistry professor from the American Chemical Society, told the Daily Mail that some of the science behind The Avengers could be real. Iron Man’s suit is possible because it can be made of a light but strong material. In the movie, Tony Stark also makes new elements by making atoms collide (使原子对撞), much like scientists do in real life.
So next time you see a movie, don’t forget to think about the science behind it.
27. A lot of science and math are used in animated movies to ________.
A. make them like Interstellar and The Martian
B. make the audience think about science
C. make things as realistic as possible
D. make snow melt or blow in the wind
28. How did people make the snow in Frozen look more natural?
A. They had to create a new kind of computer.
B. They solved this problem with frozen technology.
C. They created some new math equations.
D. They used math knowledge to make a program.
29. The example of The Avengers in Paragraph 6 is used to show ________.
A. how superheroes have super powers
B. how science makes action realistic
C. Iron Man’s suit is made of light materials
D. how Tony Stark makes new elements
30. What can we learn from the passage?
A. Science and math play important roles in movie making.
B. Every movie should be made to look as realistic as possible.
C. Animated movies use less science than other movies.
D. Scientists can make things in movies become real.
