①Nowadays, smart home devices (设备) have become a popular choice for more and more people. They allow people to manage their homes from anywhere, making life more convenient and enjoyable. However, they also come with safety risks that you may not notice.
②Some smart home devices are often rushed to the market, without enough safety testing. As a result, some baby monitors (监视器) and cameras have been hacked (非法入侵), so hackers (黑客) could spy on others and even control their devices. Many experts believe that with smart home devices, you shouldn’t ask “if” they will be hacked, but “when”, because many of these devices are easy to hack and don’t have strong protection.

What’s more, many people control their smart devices through smartphones, which means some important personal information could be at risk.
④Although the risks of smart home devices might sound scary, there are several ways to stay safe. One of the easiest ways is to keep devices updated (更新). Companies often put out new versions (版本) to replace the old ones, so be sure to update your systems regularly.

“It has to arrive soon,” thought Amy happily. “How does it get here without a map?” wondered Amy. She was waiting patiently to see Wilson again.
As Amy looked through the window, she saw something unusual—a squirrel! Amy watched him collecting the nuts (坚果) that fell from the trees. The squirrel studied each nut before deciding what to do with it. If it was small or ready to eat, he pushed the nut into his mouth. If it was large but not ready, he buried (埋) it. If he saw another animal nearby, like a rabbit or a fox, he first hid the nut in his mouth and then buried it somewhere else secretly.
Suddenly, a flash of yellow flew past Amy’s window. “Wilson, you’ve come back!” Amy cheered, running into the yard. She picked some berries for the bird to eat and went inside to watch. Minutes later, she saw the squirrel. He was eating the berries! Amy ran back outside as fast as she could. “Hey! Those are for Wilson! Go and dig up the nuts you buried!” Amy raced into the house and found a small net to put some berries in. She managed to hang the net from a tall branch of an old tree.
The next morning, Amy woke up, looked out of her window, and saw the squirrel. He was at the bottom of the tree, looking at the branches! Suddenly, he climbed up to the tall branch. Then, he hung upside down to reach for the net! “You’re nothing but trouble,” thought Amy angrily. “From now on, I’m calling you Trouble!”
Amy had to go outside to look for somewhere else. She noticed a metal pole supporting the clothesline. “Trouble can’t climb that!” thought Amy. “There is no way to snack on Wilson’s food this time!”
Later, when Amy arrived home from school, she went to look for Wilson. There was Trouble again, jumping onto the clothesline from the tall branch of the tree! Using his tail to balance, he walked along the clothesline to the net of berries. Next, Trouble hit the net hard with his foot, causing several berries to fall to the ground. Wilson flew down from a nearby tree and, together, Trouble and Wilson shared the berries.
“Trouble, you’re a smart squirrel!” smiled Amy. From that day on, Amy looked forward to visits from both Wilson and Trouble.
8.What was Amy waiting for at the beginning of the story?

Since exercise videos started appearing online, most people have used them easily to keep fit. Even so, some people say exercise videos should not replace the proper instruction at a gym.
One advantage of online exercise videos is that they are free. You don’t have to pay for a gym membership or expensive exercise equipment (设备). Besides, it’s very convenient for people to watch them. You just need a Wi-Fi connection and you can start exercising anytime you like. Also, there are plenty of choices of exercise videos online. You might decide on a more relaxing yoga or Pilates class or go for a more high-energy Zumba workout.
However, some people might find this wide range (系列) of choices confusing. They might not know how to choose the right video. In a gym, you could get advice on what exercises you need to do and how to do them correctly. But at home, it is possible for you to keep doing an exercise incorrectly because no expert around corrects you. To avoid getting hurt during the exercise, it’s better for beginners to do exercise in a gym.
There are many pros and cons to online exercise videos, but I strongly believe that the pros outweigh the cons. People who are unable to go to the gym now have the chance of getting fit at home whenever they want, and some exercise is definitely better than no exercise at all.
12.What does the underlined word “confusing” mean?
A.Unclear. B.Terrible. C.Difficult. D.Enjoyable.
13.Why is it a good choice for beginners to do exercise in a gym?
A.To avoid getting hurt during the exercise.
B.To know which exercise fits them.
C.To know how to use the equipment correctly.
D.To keep exercising for longer time with others.
14.What is the writer’s attitude towards exercise videos?
A.Supportive. B.Uncertain. C.Doubtful. D.Worried.
15.What’s the structure of the passage?
A. B. C. D.
二、任务型阅读(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读下面材料,从所给的A-E五个选项中选出正确选项(其中一项是多余选项),将其序号填入第1~4小题,并回答第5小题。
Nobody is born great.
Start with duties. Do the homework, the chores and the small promises of today. A student who never forgets homework looks like nobody’s hero, but it is the same habit that later keeps a scientist careful and honest.
Then learn to fall. Think of the pioneers we admire: their roads were full of dead ends, and every one of them tried again.
Finally, keep others in your plan. It was necessary for Zhang Qian to walk the desert alone, yet his road later carried thousands of traders and their stories.
Greatness is only a seed. Plant it in an ordinary day, and water it for years.
A.Small duties are the first seeds of a great character.
B.Greatness is not found; it is grown, one habit at a time.
C.Falling down is not the end — stopping is.
D.The best heroes make others better, too.
E.Only famous people can change the world.
