I remember lying on the grass and counting stars with my parents when I was a child. My life was full of fun then. However, children today are busy with schoolwork or they are glued to their screens. In fact, there are many cool new hobbies for them to see in the outside world. Let’s take a look!
Geocaching is a popular treasure-searching game. The “treasure” is usually a box with a notebook and gifts. You can find the box in a park or other outdoor places. Just open the Geocaching app, choose a “treasure” near you, and then the app will offer a puzzle (谜) to help you find it.
Bird watching is also a great activity. You just need binoculars (双筒望远镜) and a guidebook. Then you can be a bird-watcher and head into nature to watch wild birds alone or in a team. As you watch them with your guidebook, you’ll get to know their names, looks and habits (习性). Remember to move slowly, stay quiet, and protect the birds’ space for the best experience.
These hobbies are so special that they benefit (使……受益) you in different ways. When you search for “treasures” through geocaching, you’re not just walking around—you’re solving real-world problems with a satellite navigation system and discovering hidden places. Bird watching provides you with a chance to learn about different birds and their homes, and help with scientific research. As well as helping you see nature differently, the two hobbies make you learn new skills and grow as a person!
Why not stay away from screens and give one of these unusual hobbies a try? They might become your new favourite source of happiness.
14.How did the writer spend his past life as a child?
A.Getting busy with schoolwork. B.Staying with grandparents.
C.Using too much time on screens. D.Enjoying outdoor activities.
15.What can we learn about the hobbies in Paragraphs 2—3?
A.Geocaching is an activity inside houses. B.Guidebooks are helpful in bird watching.
C.Geocaching is an activity to protect nature. D.Teamwork is important in bird watching.
16.Which of the following can be put into the blank in the chart?
A.get closer to nature B.develop good friendships
C.improve health conditions D.help with school subjects
17.What is the main idea of the passage?
A.Keeping a new hobby is hard work.
B.Children need to have different hobbies.
C.Some unusual and new hobbies are fun and meaningful.
D.Geocaching is more exciting than bird watching.

Have you ever lost yourself in doing something so deeply that you forget the time slipping by? Have you ever been so focused on the task that you don’t even notice you’re hungry or thirsty? Everything around you—from the ringing of phones to the people passing by—seems to be away.
Most of us have had this experience at one time or another, whether it’s while practicing basketball drills, drawing in a sketchbook, or even organizing a collection of cards. This special state of mind is called “flow”. When it happens, we completely pay attention to what we are doing. We feel energetic, even excited about what we are doing. For example, you might spend a whole hour fixing the lines and shadows of a drawing over and over. Then you suddenly realize you missed your favorite after-school show—but you don’t even care, because that time when you hold the brush and focus on drawing felt really great.
The idea of flow was introduced and first studied by psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. According to his discovery, whether flow happens depends on the difficulty of the challenge and our skill levels. For example, if the task is low in challenge and doesn’t require a lot of skills, we probably feel bored with it. But facing a challenging task without the required skills could easily cause worry. He finally drew the conclusion that when the challenge is difficult and we believe we have enough skills, flow happens.
During flow, people can work faster and better. For example, artists said that they could create more works easily “without putting in much work” in the flow state. Flow can also make people more curious and creative because they have to look for new challenges and information to keep the state.
Flow often happens during creative activities and sports activities. But flow states aren’t just something experienced by artists, writers or sportspeople. Flow can happen anytime a person is deeply lost in a task, including during learning activities. Many people want to achieve flow more often in their daily lives. While doing a task, having clear plans, adding something challenging and giving and receiving feedback in time can help achieve flow. It’s more difficult to achieve flow if people’s attention is distracted, so it’s necessary that smartphones, TV and other distractions get turned off.
18.The writer asked two “Have you ever...” questions at the beginning to ________.
A.share personal experiences B.answer the question
C.list everyday activities D.introduce a subject
19.According to Csikszentmihalyi’s study, which diagram (示意图) shows the flow state?
A. B. C. D.
20.The following sentence can best be put at the end of ________.
With flow, people have greater levels of happiness and achievement in their activities.
A.Paragraph 2 B.Paragraph 3 C.Paragraph 4 D.Paragraph 5
21.Which is the best title for this passage?
A.The Study on Flow B.The Introduction to Flow
C.The Influences of Flow D.The Requirements for Flow

China has good news for families with young children. Nowadays, many families feel stressed to raise young children, as costs for daily needs and early education are increasing.
In January 2025, the government put a new childcare subsidy policy (育儿补贴政策) into practice to support parents. This plan means families with babies and toddlers, children aged under three, can get money from the government. The national plan was made to give parents more support to raise children.
So who can get this money? Every family in the country that has a child under three years old can get this financial (财政的) help. For each young child, the family can receive 3,600 yuan every year, which is about 300 yuan per month — enough to reduce some of the monthly cost. They will keep getting this money until the child is three. It doesn’t matter if the child is the first, second or third one in the family — all are included, showing fair support for every family.
Before this rule became national, some cities like Shanghai and Chengdu tried it first, and it was very successful. Parents in those cities speak highly of the plan, saying it really helped them manage daily cost. This money is a big help. Parents can use it to buy food, clothes and toys for their kids. Maybe they can even spend a little on fun activities like visiting a children’s museum.
Getting the money is easy too. Parents don’t need to deal with lots of complicated (复杂的) papers. They can just apply (申请) online through a government app or website. After applying, the review process (审核流程) is quick — most families get a reply within a week. The government hopes this plan will let every young child grow up happily in a warm and supportive environment.
22.What is the main purpose of China’s new childcare subsidy policy?
A.To encourage more families to travel. B.To reduce the financial pressure of raising children.
C.To improve the children’s education level. D.To help families buy new houses.
23.If a family has two children under three years old, how much money can they get every year?
A.300 yuan. B.3,600 yuan. C.7,200 yuan. D.10,800 yuan.
24.Which of the following statements is NOT true according to the passage?
A.The new rule to support parents started in January 2025.
B.Each young child under three can get 3,600 yuan every year from the government.
C.Only the first child in a family can get the financial support.
D.Parents can apply for the subsidy online through a government app or website.
25.What is the main idea of the passage?
A.The cost of raising children in China now. B.The life of young children in China nowadays.
C.How to ask for the Chinese government’s help. D.A new plan to support families with young kids.

Common Teenage Troubles & Practical Advice
Our school invited a youth worker to give a lecture about teenage problems. He introduced two common troubles for Grade Nine students and shared useful advice.
The first big problem is heavy study stress. Students have piles of homework and many exams. Some stay up late to finish schoolwork, and they often waste spare time on short videos. They always feel tired and regret their bad habits later. The second problem is conflicts with parents. Most parents make almost all choices for their children and lose patience when teens share different thoughts. Many students dare not argue and lock all sadness inside, which makes their pressure heavier day by day.
The speaker offered three practical suggestions. First, cut back on screen time and make daily plans to balance study and hobbies. Second, communicate calmly with parents after both sides cool down. Shouting will only make things worse. Third, reach out to teachers or school psychologists if you can’t solve problems by yourself. They will listen to you carefully and offer proper advice. Remember you are not alone; every teenager meets similar growing troubles.
54.What are the two main teenage problems mentioned in the lecture?
55.Why do many students feel regretful after school every day?
56.What three ways does the youth worker give to deal with teenage stress?

21.Which is the best title for this passage?
A.The Study on Flow B.The Introduction to Flow
C.The Influences of Flow D.The Requirements for Flow
【答案】18.D 19.A 20.C 21.B
第一段以设问开头:“Have you ever lost yourself in doing something so deeply that you forget the time slipping by?”,通过提问让读者联想自身经历,从而引出“心流”这一话题,其作用是引入主题(introduce a subject)。
19.第三段说明心流发生的条件:“when the challenge is difficult and we believe we have enough skills, flow happens”,心流状态需要挑战难度高、个人技能水平也高。
20.第四段列举心流的益处:“During flow, people can work faster and better”,“Flow can also make people more curious and creative”,说明该段围绕心流带来的积极影响展开;待插入句“With flow, people have greater levels of happiness and achievement in their activities”正是对心流好处的总结,应放在第四段末尾。
D
第一段提到“Nowadays, many families feel stressed to raise young children, as costs for daily needs and early education are increasing.”说明当下家庭育儿日常开销和早教成本攀升带来压力,第二段“The national plan was made to give parents more support to raise children.”
23.根据第三段中“Every family in the country that has a child under three years old can get this financial (财政的) help. For each young child, the family can receive 3,600 yuan every year”可知,每名3岁以下的幼儿每年可获得3600元补贴,两个符合条件的幼儿每年可获得的补贴总额为3600×2=7200元。
24.根据第三段中“It doesn’t matter if the child is the first, second or third one in the family — all are included, showing fair support for every family.”

54.Heavy study stress and conflicts with parents. 55.Because they waste lots of time on short videos and stay up late. 56.Cut back on screen time and make time plans; communicate calmly with parents; turn to teachers or psychologists for help.
根据第二段“The first big problem is heavy study stress. The second problem is conflicts with parents.”
55.根据第二段“Some stay up late to finish schoolwork, and they often waste spare time on short videos. They always feel tired and regret their bad habits later.” Because they waste lots of time on short videos and stay up late.
56.根据第三段“The speaker offered three practical suggestions. First, cut back on screen time and make daily plans to balance study and hobbies. Second, communicate calmly with parents after both sides cool down. Third, reach out to teachers or school psychologists if you can’t solve problems by yourself.” Cut back on screen time and make time plans; communicate calmly with parents; turn to teachers or psychologists for help.
