Passage 1
“The only constant (不变) in life is change,” Heraclitus said in about 500 B.C. That could be more true today. Technology is out of date almost when you buy it. We get plenty of information every day. Francis Bacon said, “Knowledge is power.” In fact, there is more information in a newspaper than he would have experienced in his whole life.
Why are we afraid of change? After all, who knows what new dangers might appear? However, change is also the only way of development. Nobody can stop it in life. Luckily, our brains become stronger when meeting the unknown. Dealing with the unexpected needs imagination and creativity. To be more imaginative and creative, you should look for and find environments you have no experience with.
For example, try a new restaurant, or go to a play or a concert you normally wouldn’t attend. Small changes can help you gradually get used to uncertainty (不确定). So when bigger things happen. You’ll be more fully prepared for them.
People who fear change often stick to a certain lifestyle. They believe they can control the future by doing so. If you can move from just accepting it to actively finding it out and dealing with it, you will be successful.
A.People are thirsty for knowledge.
B.That’s because our brains want to protect us.
C.But change comes whether you ask for it or not.
D.We live in a world that is changing every minute.
E.You can learn how to face the changes in daily life.
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.Can you find any changes in your life? Please give me an example.
1.D 2.B 3.E 4.C 5.Yes. For example, I use mobile phones to study online now.(答案不唯一,合理即可)
D“We live in a world that is changing every minute.”
B“That’s because our brains want to protect us.”
E“You can learn how to face the changes in daily life.”
C“But change comes whether you ask for it or not.”
Passage 2
People have used leather (皮革) for a very long time. Long ago, early humans made clothes from leather. Today, we still use leather to make shoes, bags, belts, and even car seats. Leather comes from animal skin, usually cows.
But now, some people think we don’t need real leather anymore. Some of these are made from plastic, which can hurt the Earth. Others are made from plants, like mushrooms, pineapples, and cacti. Some scientists can even grow leather in a lab using tiny cells from animals. Shall we stop using leather? The following are the different viewpoints of two students.
Kathy:
Many people think it’s unacceptable to wear a fur coat, so why is it OK to wear a leather one? It’s still made from an animal. Most of the leather we use is from cows, and cows give off gases that make the Earth hotter. Making leather also makes the air and water dirty. We don’t need to use leather anymore. We can use these instead.
John: Leather is still a good choice.
Many people around the world eat meat, so it makes sense to use those animal skins for leather instead of letting them go to waste. Fake leather (人造皮革) is often made from plastic, which does not break down and can make pollution worse. It also doesn’t last as long, so we may need to buy new things more often.
A.We should stop using leather.
B.Raising cows can be bad for the environment.
C.Leather is strong, lasts a long time, and breaks down naturally when we throw it away.
D.They want to use other materials that look and feel like leather but are not from animals.
E.There are plant-based leathers that look nice, cost less, and don’t hurt animals.
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.Who do you agree with, Kathy or John? Why? (Answer within 15 words)
1.D 2.A 3.E 4.C 5.I agree with Kathy because plant-based leather doesn’t hurt animals./I agree with John because leather is strong and lasts long.
1.根据上文“But now, some people think we don’t need real leather anymore.”和下文“Some of these are made from plastic...Others are made from plants...”
2.根据下文“Most of the leather we use is from cows, and cows give off gases that make the Earth hotter. Making leather also makes the air and water dirty.” 故选A。
3.根据上文“We don’t need to use leather anymore.”和下文“We can use these instead.”
4.根据上文“Leather is still a good choice.”和“...so it makes sense to use those animal skins for leather instead of letting them go to waste.”
I agree with Kathy because plant-based leather doesn’t hurt animals./I agree with John because leather is strong and lasts long.
Passage 3
Don’t be too surprised if you see a car going down the road without a driver in Beijing these days. It might be one of a big company’s self-driving cars. Last month, a big company began to test its self-driving cars on open roads in Beijing.
Since then, some companies have been working to produce and test their own self-driving cars.
Self-driving cars are safer than regular cars. They can remove the stress of driving and allow disabled or blind people to get around more easily.
In one test, researchers pointed a laser pointer (激光棒) at the car while it was moving. The car mistakenly thought that the laser beam was in its way and slowed down or changed the direction.
The software that is used to direct the cars may not be safe enough. At times, it may break down. When we use our computers or smartphones, they sometimes break down without any reason. But if this happened to a self-driving car, the results could be deadly.
A.Self-driving cars will be popular all over the world.
B.Self-driving cars began to develop in 2010.
C.But self-driving cars have their own problems as well.
D.And they are more environmentally friendly than regular cars.
E.Improvements to the software could be a solution to this problem.
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.Can you accept self-driving cars? Why or why not? (No more than 20 words)

1.根据前文“Last month, a big company began to test its self-driving cars on open roads in Beijing.”和后文“Since then, some companies have been working to produce and test their own self-driving cars.”
2.根据前文“Self-driving cars are safer than regular cars.”
3.根据后文“In one test, researchers pointed a laser pointer at the car while it was moving. The car mistakenly thought that the laser beam was in its way and slowed down or changed the direction.”
4.根据前文“The software that is used to direct the cars may not be safe enough. At times, it may break down…But if this happened to a self-driving car, the results could be deadly.”
Yes, I can. Because self-driving cars are safer and more convenient./No, I can’t. Because the software of self-driving cars may not be safe enough.

Starting Grade 9 can feel a bit hard. The study pace (节奏) is faster, and there are more things to do. But if you take small steps, you can get used to it quickly.
Write down homework, review time, and breaks. This helps you finish tasks (任务) on time without rushing. For example, spend 30 minutes reviewing each subject after school. Planning stops last minute stress.
It’s normal to feel stressed out about exams or hard lessons. When you’re stressed out, take 5-minute breaks to walk or listen to music. Talking to parents or friends also helps. Remember, pressure can push you to work harder, but don’t let it make you nervous.
If you don’t understand a lesson, talk to your teacher or classmates right away. Don’t wait until you’re lost. Many classmates face the same problems, and helping each other makes learning easier.
Sleep 8 hours every night and eat healthy meals. A strong body helps you feel better in class. Even 15 minutes of exercise daily can give you more energy (能量).
Grade 9 is a new start, not a big problem. With these tips, you’ll get used to the pace soon and do well in your studies.

One day, his teacher asked him to join the school drama club. At first, David was afraid to speak on stage. But with the help of his classmate Lily, he tried step by step. They practiced together every week.

In a corner of my father’s house, there is a big plastic box. Inside are hundreds of Beanie Babies. These soft toys belonged to my sister. 1
Beanie Babies were the Labubu of my childhood. My sister was in her early teens when she started collecting them. She spent all her pocket money on these toys. 2 Everyone in America was after Beanie Babies. Many people, including my sister, started making money from them. Some could be sold for thousands of dollars each.
But that excitement didn’t last long. After about five years, Beanie Babies weren’t worth (值) a penny. 3 Different from my sister, I only had four Beanie Babies: a turtle, a tiger, a frog, and a lizard. They were never for sale and are still with me. 4
The same things happen today with Labubu and the like. Many kids love them and hang them on their schoolbags. But these toys are traded on the market, too. A 99-yuan Labubu doll, for example, can go for 1,100 yuan at online flea markets
How many Labubu, LinaBell, or other popular dolls do you have? Do you really like them, or will you put them up for sale sooner or later?

If you have ever heard the words “Clean up your room!”, you’re not alone. What will the world of the next generation (一代) look like? Many people today are confident that technology is going to help solve some of the most challenging problems we have on Earth today. But it may also create new ones. No technology is perfect.
The advantages are clear. This technology would allow total freedom of movement. We could fly at 480 km per hour, avoiding traffic lights and busy roads. However, some people believe there will be problems with traffic control. If the cars become popular, it is likely to cause very heavy traffic. And what will happen if the cars break down?
3D printers are already used to make life-size models of car parts, and man-made body parts, such as ears. As we move into the future, 3D printing will change the way we make things and the way we treat sick people. The disadvantage is that such a machine is very expensive.
Several companies are trying to build a practical robot suit. This is an electronic suit with robot arms and legs which follows the wearer’s movements. It allows you to lift heavy objects and walk long distances (距离). And it even might help people walk again after disease (疾病). However, one disadvantage at the moment is cost. Even a simple robot suit can cost hundreds of thousands of pounds.
Looking ahead, it is not difficult to imagine a future. One day, we will be able to fly to work, print out a new pair of shoes or lift a car above our heads. Although there are some problems to solve before all of these are possible, we can certainly dream of a world where technology makes life easier and safer.
A.New technology may solve old problems.
B.These are problems we must expect in the future.
C.Finally, imagine having your own Iron Man suit.
D.3D printing is another new technology with exciting possibilities for the future.
E.Many of us like to think that we will be able to fly to the sky in our own personal flying cars.

Getting English Language Learners to Put Down the Books and Have Some Fun Even if there’s so much about English that can be learned from a book or even in a traditional classroom setting, a lot of the language can still be learned best in more relaxing situations where students are having fun. Here are some suggestions.
★ Communicate with strangers. If you live in an area filled with English speakers, get students out of the classroom. 1 Students may not speak to strangers, but they’ll hear conversations taking place and may begin to understand how the words learnt in the classroom are actually used in everyday speech.
★Let their guard down. One difficult thing for learners is confidence(自信)when they speak English. Fun activities, especially those outside of the classroom, give students a chance to feel relaxed. 2 It may take a bit of time at the beginning, but once students get into it, they’ll start to get confidence.
★ Make use of English media(媒体). Most recorded language instruction is pretty boring and it can get tiring hearing the same voice repeat the same phrases. 3 They will hear common expressions and more everyday conversations in the movie. If they’re not sure about something they hear, it can turn into a more formal lesson once back in the classroom.
★ 4 Casual(随意的)conversations give learners the chance to hear or use English in situations. They can talk all they want about expressions to use while dining out or informal words to use with friends, but it takes a trip to McDonald’s or a picnic in the park for many of those expressions to truly set in.
A.You can let students go to a movie in English.
B.Put them among other English speakers.
C. They may hate to speak English.
D.Hear or use English in situations.
E. They will speak more freely.
1._________
2._________
3._________
4._________
5.How do you learn English?(回答不多于10个单词)
【答案】1.B 2.E 3.A 4.D 5.
1.根据“If you live in an area filled with English speakers, get students out of the classroom.”
2.根据“One difficult thing for learners is confidence when they speak English. Fun activities, especially those outside of the classroom, give students a chance to feel relaxed.”
3.根据“They will hear common expressions and more everyday conversations in the movie.” 故选A。
4.根据“Casual conversations give learners the chance to hear or use English in situations.”
By reading English books.
Passage 1
How to Make Friends at a New School
Starting with a new school can be difficult. Everything seems to be different, and you don’t even know where to go for your own classes. However, if you follow the advice, you can quickly turn some of those strangers into friends.
Be yourself.
If some people don’t accept you, they’re not the kind of friends you need. People often stay together because they have similar interests. For example, someone who does a lot of sport may make friends with those who also run or swim a lot.
Believe in yourself.
A smile goes a long way. When you walk in the halls, don’t keep your eyes on the floor. Raise your head and make eye contact with other people. Introduce yourself. Tell them your name and where you’re from.
Remember people’s names
You like it when people use your name, and so do other people. Besides, ask them in a kind way if they have a nickname. You’d be surprised how often this might come in handy.
A.Making new friends can be hard, too.
B.Never change who you are to try and fit in.
C.If you see someone you don’t know, smile or say “Hi”.
D.People may become angry if you just begin by saying “Hey” each time.
E.Don’t sit at the back of the classroom where other people don’t notice you!
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.What other advice can you give to make new friends? (No more than 20 words)
1.A 2.B 3.C 4.D 5.(One possible answer) Join clubs or activities you like to meet people with similar hobbies; be friendly and polite.
1.根据“Starting with a new school can be difficult. Everything seems to be different, and you don’t even know where to go for your own classes.”,短文开篇提到进入新学校会很困难,比如不知道自己的班级在哪里,接下来用“However”转折引出遵循建议就能结交朋友,所以此空应是承接前文的困难,进一步说明结交新朋友也不容易。 故选A。
3.根据小标题“Believe in yourself.”,以及前文“Raise your head and make eye contact with other people.”、后文“Introduce yourself. Tell them your name and where you’re from.”,可知此空应是衔接眼神交流和自我介绍的动作,比如对陌生人微笑或打招呼。
4.根据小标题“Remember people’s names”,以及前文“You like it when people use your name, and so do other people.”,可知此空应是说明不叫别人名字的弊端,突出记住名字的重要性。
Join clubs or activities you like to meet people with similar hobbies; be friendly and polite.

Making a Difference in Your Community
Helping others doesn’t always need big actions. Sometimes, even the smallest efforts can make a big difference. Two teenagers, Jason and Emma, recently shared how they’ve worked to improve their community. Let’s hear about their experiences and the lessons they’ve learned along the way.
◆ Can you introduce what you’ve done for your community?
Jason: 1 In my program, kids from my neighborhood can borrow sports things for free.
Emma: I worked with a group to repaint the playground in our local park and make it more colorful for kids.
◆ 1
Jason: I noticed that many kids in my neighborhood don’t have enough money to buy sports things. So, I thought if I could lend them the sports things, maybe they would start to love sports and stay active.
Emma: It all started when I saw the walls in the playground were broken, and the floor was always dirty and grey. “Why not make the place better for everyone?” I got together with some friends, and we came up with a plan to repaint and fix it up.
◆ What was your favorite part of this experience?
Jason: Honestly, my favorite part has been seeing the kids enjoy sports together. Often, I see a kid out there using the sports things. 1
Emma: I loved working with my friends to make the playground livelier. We spent hours painting. We were all so proud of the result. 2 Even when we were tired, we kept going because we knew the kids would love it. It’s amazing to see how happy they are now.
◆ Any advice for people who want to help their community?
Jason: Start with something small but meaningful.
Emma: Don’t wait for others to take action—you can be the one to start.
A.What made you want to start this project?

C.Make a daily plan.

Being lazy is the most common thing in the world. It has become the biggest enemy (敌人) in front of us and “giving up” usually happens to us. 1 The following ways are very useful.
First, set a goal (目标) that you can get to. 2 That’s because you are used to the way that things are going, and even if you want to change, it’s difficult. So don’t try to conquer (征服) laziness in the beginning, just conquer some small things which you can achieve. As the saying goes, “Well begun is half done.”
Second, take action at once and then you will make progress little by little. Please remember “ 3 ”
Third, be responsible (有责任心的). To beat laziness, we need a bit of pressure. Pressure can encourage people, especially when it’s good.
At last, be confident (自信的) and keep doing it no matter what happens. You’ll meet difficulties and fall down. Just get up and keep going. You’ll make mistakes and get disappointed. It doesn’t matter. 1
In fact, being lazy is not terrible. Follow the advice above, keep your own promises and get started right now.

E.Many of us like to think that we will be able to fly to the sky in our own personal flying cars.

Only children over 13 can work. 3 On a school day, they can work two hours a day at most but not during school hours. At weekends and during school holidays they can work longer hours. The national minimum wage for people aged 16-17 is £3.57 per hour. 18-year-olds must earn a minimum of £4.83.

Emma: I worked with a group to repaint the playground in our local park and make it more colorful for kids.

Jason: Honestly, my favorite part has been seeing the kids enjoy sports together. Often, I see a kid out there using the sports things. 1
