A recent study by Arber Tasimi, a graduate student at Yale University and Liane Young, a professor at Boston College, found that kids who do good and think back on it are driven to do more and more good. As Tasimi says, “These findings show that something as simple as asking children to reflect (反思) on their past good deeds (行为) has positive effects on children’s behavior.”
To carry out the study, the researchers recruited (招募) 225 children aged six to eight. They gave each child five stickers and divided them into different groups: Some children recalled a time they were nice to someone (the nice group); others recalled a time they were mean (刻薄的) to someone or when someone was nice to them. As a comparison, another group of kids was asked about a time they watched a movie.
The researchers then showed the children an image of a fictitious (假想的) character, Gary, who had no stickers. Children were asked whether they wanted to give Gary any of their five stickers, and those in the nice group gave the most stickers. In other words, these children behaved more generously (慷慨地) compared to their peers in the other groups.
“Recalling one’s own positive behaviors—rather than recalling positive behaviors more generally—increases generosity in children,” the researchers conclude.
As the researchers note, after adults have performed a number of good deeds—thus accruing (积累) “moral credit”-they cut back on their generosity. Would children behave meanly after they recalled some examples of their goodness?
To explore this possibility, the researchers asked another group of children to remember three different times when they were nice to someone. They found that these children behaved just as generously as those who had recalled a single example of their past goodness; children, it seems, don’t give out good deeds in a calculating (计算) way.
If parents want to raise kind children, this study suggests, they can reinforce (强化) good behavior by praising their children’s past kindnesses and offering gentle reminders when they’re deciding whether to share.
In the future, Tasimi hopes to find out other factors that lead children to do greater good. He is especially interested in examining the role of peer influence on children’s generosity. He says kids are probably more likely to copy a classmate’s fashion choices than Dad’s. In other words, children could be positive role models for each other.
24.The researchers divided the children into different groups to find out _____.
A.why they are mean to Gary. B.who can recall their past kindnesses.
C.how to get the most stickers. D.what can increase children’s generosity.
25.According to the writer, who is probably the most generous?
A.The boy who has got help from his neighbors.
B.The boy who has ever seen his parents’ past goodness.
C.The boy whose parents often ask him to be nice to others.
D.The boy whose parents often tell stories about his kind acts in the past.
26.What can we learn from the passage?
A.Recalling others’ positive behaviors rather than their own can improve generosity.
B.Recalling children’s own kindness can help them do greater good.
C.Children behave meanly after recalling many examples of their goodness.
D.Parents’ behavior has a greater influence on children than their peers’.

At the top of the house, Sue and Johnsy had their own painting room where they worked together. In November, Johnsy became very ill, and was lying in her bed and looking through the window at the wall of the next house.
“Her only chance,” the doctor said, “is for her to want to live.”
After the doctor had gone, Sue came into Johnsy’s room. Johnsy was looking out of the window and counting.
“Six,” said Johnsy, “there goes another one. There are only five leaves left now.”
“Five what, dear?”
“Leaves, on the ivy vine (常春藤). When the last one falls, I’ll die.”
“Johnsy, dear,” said Sue, “try to sleep. I must go and ask Behrman to be my model.”
Old Behrman was a painter, who lived downstairs. He was past 60 and made a little money by being a model. He always wanted to paint a great work, but never began it. Behrman saw himself as a guard to protect the two young artists in the painting room upstairs.
Sue found Behrman and told him what Johnsy had said.
“What a foolish idea! I have never heard that people will die because of a falling leaf. Poor Johnsy!” After saying that, they went upstairs. They looked out of the window at the ivy vine. A cold rain was falling.
The next morning, there stood one ivy leaf.
“It’s the last one,” said Johnsy. “It will fall today, and I’ll die.”
At night, the wind began to blow. The next morning, the leaf was still there.
“Something has made that last leaf stay there. It’s wrong to want to die,” said Johnsy to Sue, “please bring me a little soup now.”
The next day the doctor said to Sue, “She’s out of danger. You won. Nutrition (营养) and care now—that’s all.”
That afternoon, Sue came to the bed where Johnsy lay.
“I have something to tell you,” she said, “Mr. Behrman died today. He was ill for only two days. His shoes and clothing were wet through and icy cold. We couldn’t imagine where he had been on such a terrible night. Look out of the window! Oh, dear, look at the last ivy leaf on the wall. Didn’t you wonder why it never moved when the wind blew? Ah, darling...”
(Adapted from The Last Leaf by O.Henry)
27.In the first paragraph, who was seriously ill?
A.Sue. B.Johnsy. C.Behrman. D.The doctor.
28.Why didn’t the last ivy leaf fall after the rainy and windy days?
A.Because it was painted on the wall. B.Because the leaf was green.
C.Because the wind wasn’t strong. D.Because it was tied to the tree.
29.What does the last leaf mean for Johnsy?
A.courage. B.fear. C.hope. D.pride.
30.According to the passage, what can we infer?
A.Sue asked Behrman to paint the last leaf on the ivy vine.
B.Behrman was an old painter who made a lot by being a model.
C.Johnsy was out of danger because of good medical care.
D.Behrman was a kind and great artist who painted the last leaf.

As teenagers step into adolescence (青春期), it is totally n 46 for them to have growing disagreements with their parents. When their needs for independence are ignored, many teens may frequently a 48 with their parents, turning small misunderstandings into fierce confrontations. In the heat of a quarrel, many parents also say u 49 words without thinking, not realizing how deeply these words can hurt their children. At the same time, both teens and parents should c 55 back on unnecessary blame and try to see things from each other’s perspectives.
B)根据短文内容在文章后表格中的空白处填入一个最恰当的词, 每空一词。
Personality plays an important role in how teenagers deal with all kinds of stress at school. Different personalities lead to completely different ways of solving teenage worries. Outgoing and confident students are brave enough to share their worries with respected teachers and warm parents once they feel upset. They are skilled at communicating their true feelings, so they can release heavy pressure in a very short time. However, quiet and shy students have totally different habits. They always keep their sadness and anxiety to themselves and refuse to talk with anyone around them. As a result, their stress becomes much heavier little by little. Their favourite way to relax alone is to write private diaries instead of having face-to-face talks.
There are two practical and useful methods to cut down study pressure for every Grade Nine student. The first one is good time management: we should make clear daily time plans to balance piles of homework and relaxing hobbies properly. The second way is taking regular outdoor exercise after school every day. Different ball games or walks can clear our tired brains and lift bad moods quickly. If these two methods still don’t work well to ease your stress, you can turn to trusted adults like head teachers or your parents for valuable advice and support.

Way 2: Take regular outdoor 61 every day

根据“If parents want to raise kind children...they can reinforce (强化) good behavior by praising their children’s past kindnesses and offering gentle reminders when they’re deciding whether to share.”
根据“Recalling one’s own positive behaviors...increases generosity”及“kids who do good and think back on it are driven to do more good”可知,回忆自己的善举能帮助孩子做更多好事。故选B。

29.What does the last leaf mean for Johnsy?
A.courage. B.fear. C.hope. D.pride.
30.According to the passage, what can we infer?
A.Sue asked Behrman to paint the last leaf on the ivy vine.
B.Behrman was an old painter who made a lot by being a model.
C.Johnsy was out of danger because of good medical care.
D.Behrman was a kind and great artist who painted the last leaf.
