【原文】Text 10
W: Good morning, everyone. It’s time for our weekly health class. How many of you feel tired all the time? Raise your hands, please. Wow, there are a lot of hands! Doctors recommend that teens get at least 8-10 hours of sleep each night. However, in practice, many teens struggle to make it. This is often due to a conflict between nature and modern life. During our teenage years, our body clocks tend to move forward. This natural change makes us want to go to sleep and wake up much later. However, as society usually demands we get up early, the key is finding a way to fall asleep earlier. Later on in the lesson, we’ll be talking about how stress and screen addiction can also impact our sleep. But first, we’re going to study the 10-3-2-1 sleep rule. This means that ten hours before bed, you stop drinking tea, coffee, and other energy drinks. Your last meal of the day should be at least three hours before bed. Homework and other work should be completed at least two hours before bed. One hour before bed, you shut off all screens. These tips will help ready your body for sleep, and help you drop off to sleep much more quickly.

In the autumn of 1993, Jed Motley was a high school senior and a star player on the school football team. He also participated in other sports, and his mother had designed a special school team jacket for him — a symbol of his achievements and her love. However, due to financial (财务的) difficulties, Jed never got to own the jacket he had dreamed of. After graduation, he lost touch with the jacket completely and never thought he would see it again.
Years passed, and Jed pursued a career in rock music. Tragically, his mother passed away, and he drifted apart from his older brother, Josh. Life took them down different paths, and they seldom communicated. The unfulfilled wish of owning the jacket became a memory, tied to the love of his late mother.
In November 2021, Josh was browsing a thrift store (旧货店) in Arizona when a familiar jacket caught his eye. The design, the details, and even the name tag with “Jed Motley” printed on it — everything matched the jacket Josh’s mother had designed decades ago. Josh couldn’t believe his luck. He bought the jacket immediately and reached out to Jed.
When Jed received the call from Josh and saw the jacket, he was overcome with emotion. The jacket fit him perfectly, as if it had been stored just for him and never worn by anyone else. Putting it on felt like embracing his mother again. Since then, Jed has worn the jacket often and even wrote a song about the experience. The lost jacket, a small but precious gift from their mother, became a bridge that reunited (重聚) the two brothers. They started communicating regularly, sharing memories of their mother and catching up on years of lost time. Jed often says, “This jacket isn’t just cloth and thread — it’s my mother’s love, and it brought my brother and me back together. I know she’d be smiling in heaven.”
24.Why was the jacket special to Jed?
A.It was a valuable gift from his football coach.
B.It helped him become a star player on the team.
C.It was the most fashionable jacket in his school.
D.It was designed by his mother and symbolized her love.
25.What does the underlined phrase “drifted apart” in paragraph 2 probably mean?
A.Became closer. B.Lost contact. C.Fought hard. D.Lived together
26.Which of the following is true according to the text?
A.The jacket helped Jed forget the pain of his mother’s death.
B.Jed’s mother designed jackets for the entire football team.
C.The jacket was in good condition.
D.Josh and Jed have stayed in touch since their mother’s death.
27.What is the text mainly about?
A.A special jacket that reunited two brothers.

China has reached a new milestone with over 40 million new energy vehicles sold, Xinhua reported. As these vehicles have been on the road for years, their power batteries are now starting to reach the end of their service life. But what does it mean for a battery to “retire”, and where do these old batteries go?
As batteries age, they degrade. When their capacity falls to about seventy-five percent, they are no longer suitable for use in vehicles. According to CCTV, batteries still able to hold between fifty percent and eighty percent of their power can be given a second life. They are often used as backup power sources or for storing energy. Once a battery’s power falls below forty percent, it is usually taken apart to get useful materials out.
Old batteries contain dangerous materials that can harm living things and may even cause fires or explosions if mishandled. Yet they also hold valuable metals. Recycling them offers clear benefits — in China, for instance, demand for lithium (锂) is high. In 2024, the country imported about 5.25 million tons of lithium concentrate. Recovering such metals from old batteries helps reduce reliance on mining and imports.
One common method is hydrometallurgical recycling. This process starts by separating the battery’s electrodes (电极), using chemicals to break down the glue or heat to burn it off. The leftover powder is then mixed into a special liquid. Valuable metals are taken out by mixing two liquids that don’t mix, like oil and water. This makes it easy to collect the metals.
This method, while useful, can create waste that may pollute the air and water. Handling the liquid inside batteries is a big challenge. Many companies are now working to solve this. For example, one of China’s leading new energy vehicle makers burns this liquid at very high temperatures, turning it into gases. Harmful gases are removed by burning them again and cooling quickly.
To ensure safety, China has set 22 national rules for battery recycling. These rules cover how to take apart and reuse old batteries properly, helping protect the environment and make good use of resources.
28.How does the author introduce the topic?
A.By quoting experts.B.By giving examples.C.By making comparisons. D.By raising questions.
29.What probably happens to a battery with 78% capacity?
A.It is recycled for metal.
B.It is directly taken apart.
C.It is employed as a spare power bank.
D.It is integrated with new ones.
30.What is the method of separating metals mentioned in paragraph 4?
A.Using two unmixable liquids. B.Removing glues with hot air.
C.Burning metals at high temperature. D.Mixing liquids and powders together.
31.What can be inferred about China’s approach to battery recycling?
A.It emphasizes extending battery life.
B.It relies largely on foreign technology.
C.It favors chemical methods over others.
D.It uses regulations to secure the process.

Do you think generating a high-definition Hollywood blockbuster just by typing sentences, like C-Single 2.0, is already the final form of video-generation large models? However realistic the videos produced by it, they are still passive videos. Google Deepmind has launched a game-changer: Project Genie. Rather than producing ordinary videos, it creates an interactive, physically simulated (模拟的) world that users can control directly, with scenes generated instantly. Let’s take an in-depth look at the amazing algorithmic black technology behind it.
How are traditional interactive environments or video games created? They rely on huge sets of coded rules. Programmers use physics engines to define gravity and write pre-set instructions to tell the computer which animation to play when a specific user input is received. But Genie takes a completely different approach. Genie achieves a breakthrough by processing images directly from pixel (像素) to pixel without written rules. Its core technology lies in unaided learning of its own internal rules of operation. Scientists trained it on 30,000 hours of online videos with no extra instructions. First, the model turns video pictures into simple visual units, much like how we process words in a sentence. By comparing pixel differences, it independently discovers hidden driving forces behind movements. In this way, Genie teaches itself physical rules such as gravity and basic control, showing that AI can understand the physical world through visual observations alone.
Genie’s value extends far beyond entertainment. It serves as a low-cost, high-efficiency virtual training ground for robots, enabling AI agents to practice countless tasks before entering the real world. It can simulate cities, support architectural design, reconstruct historical scenes, and assist psychological treatment by creating safe interactive environment. By preparing fully in simulated environments, people can greatly reduce potential risks and improve efficiency in real life.
However, it still faces technical barriers. For instance, it runs for a maximum of 60 seconds before its simulations start breaking at the edges. With rapid AI development, these limitations are expected to be solved in the near future.
32.What does the author think of C-Single 2.0?
A.It is still technologically limited.
B.It will be replaced by human designers.
C.It marks the ultimate stage of video models.
D.It is superior to Project Genie in video realism.
33.What makes Genie different from traditional game engines?
A.It makes use of pre-set instructions for animation.
B.It fails to offer controllable and interactive scenes.
C.It depends on clear coded rules from programmers.
D.It learns physical rules through independent visual study.
34.What can be inferred about Genie from paragraph 3?
A.It is a must for psychological treatment.
B.It can be widely applied in different fields.
C.It gets rid of most potential risks in daily life.
D.It provides efficient robot training in real life.
35.Which of the following can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Video Model: a New Frontier for Video Games
B.Project Genie: a New Track for Video Generation
C.Pixel Analysis: the Key to Self-learning Physical Rules
D.Virtual Simulation: Values of Real-world Applications
【答案】32.A 33.D 34.B 35.B
【导语】本文主要介绍谷歌Deepmind的Genie项目,对比传统视频生成模型,讲解其核心原理、多元应用及现存技术局限。

How to Overcome Fear of Public Speaking
Public speaking is one of the most common fears people experience. 36 However, with practice and the right strategies, you can overcome this fear and become a confident speaker.
First, prepare thoroughly. Know your material inside and out. 37 When you are confident in your content, you’ll feel less anxious. Practice your speech multiple times, either in front of a mirror or with a friend.
Second, visualize success. Before your presentation, take a few moments to close your eyes and imagine yourself delivering a successful speech. 38 Positive visualization can boost your confidence and reduce anxiety.
Third, focus on the message, not yourself. Many nervous speakers worry about how they appear to the audience. 39 Focusing on the audience’s needs helps shift attention away from your own self-consciousness.
Fourth, accept your nerves. It’s normal to feel nervous before speaking. Instead of trying to eliminate the feeling, embrace it. 40 Use deep breathing to calm yourself before you begin. Remember that a little nervous energy can actually improve your performance by making you more alert and focused.
A.It is often ranked higher than the fear of death.

One morning, Li Ming walked into a small café near his school. He noticed an old man sitting by the window, 41 a cup of coffee quietly. The café was 42 but warm, with soft music playing in the background. Li Ming sat down next to him and saw the old man 43 a book with many handwritten notes on the pages. It looked like the book was very important to him. Li Ming asked politely, “ 44 kind of book is that?” The old man closed the book and said, “It’s my diary. I’ve kept it for over 40 years and it’s my most precious 45 .” “Why do you write it every day?” Li Ming wondered. The old man 46 and replied, “I write down the small happy things in life. It makes me feel grateful every day.” This short talk gave Li Ming a great 47 . He learned that 48 you slow down and notice life’s small moments, you will find more joy around you. Now, how does Li Ming live his daily life? In a 49 with his classmates, he said, “I always 50 a few minutes every morning writing down one thing I’m thankful for. It can be a kind word from a teacher or a smile from a friend. At the Temple of Heaven, 73-year-old Li Shuyun stands tall, her arms rising slowly above her head in a smooth movement, then stretching outward, hands open as though hugging the sky. The calming practice of baduanjin, 56 ancient Chinese form of exercise, fills the air 57 a sense of peace and focus.

fill...with...
分析句子结构,many of _______ live inactive lifestyles and are continually pressured by office stress是定语从句,先行词为younger people,指人,在从句中作介词of的宾语,空处只能用whom, many of whom表示“他们当中许多人”,引导非限制性定语从句。
65.考查固定搭配。句意:无论是在安静客厅,还是在开阔公园练习,八段锦都能在忙碌世界中带来片刻的平和与平衡。whether...or...意为“无论……还是……”,是固定搭配,符合语境。

Dear Chris,
I’m writing to share with you a labor class I had on a farm last Friday.
Upon arrival, we worked nonstop in the fields from morning till noon. At first, I struggled with the farm work, with sweat keeping rolling down my face. By noon, my hands were dirty and my back ached, but seeing the tidy fields and fresh produce, I truly appreciated the fruits of labor.
Through this experience, I have realized how hard farmers work to bring food to our tables. It also makes me appreciate the value of manual labor. I feel more grateful for everything I have now.
Yours,
Li Hua

67.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
“Here they come!” 15-year-old Alexa Billstrom shouted, looking into the hallway. Her older sister, Jordyn, had spent the summer in hospital receiving treatment for a serious blood disease. Jordyn felt sad and lonely until a hospital volunteer brought in a therapy (治疗) dog. Jordyn, who loved dogs, looked forward to every visit. The dog’s warm company lifted her spirits a lot.
After a bone operation, Jordyn made a full recovery and went back home. However, Alexa never forgot how much happiness the therapy dog had brought her sister. Inspired, she decided to act. She had her dog, Molly, trained and certified (认证) as a therapy dog. But something even more meaningful was about to happen.
Alexa had always dreamed of owning a horse. Her parents told her she could get one only if she could cover all its purchase and upkeep costs. So, she saved every penny from her part-time job at a pizza shop. When she finally had enough money, she realized the cost of feeding and housing a full-sized horse was too high. Then she had an idea: why not get a smaller horse? She searched online and found a rescue group for small horses. One photo caught her eye. “He’s lovely!” she said. The little horse was named Sawdust. She paid the fee, and the shelter sent him to a nearby stable.
At first, Sawdust was hard to manage. He pulled on the rope, stood on his back legs, and tried to run away. But Alexa was patient. She spent many afternoons and evenings calming him down, brushing him, and teaching him. Slowly, he improved. “He’s finally learning,” she told the residents at the nursing home where she had just started working. They begged to meet him, even though she explained he wasn’t yet a certified therapy animal. To everyone’s surprise, the visit went wonderfully. One lady hugged him and said, “Hi, sweetheart.”
Soon, other nursing homes invited him to visit. Alexa found an organization that certifies therapy horses. She prepared him carefully, letting him get used to loud machines, wheelchairs, and other facilities.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Finally, Sawdust passed his test and began visiting children’s hospitals or nursing homes.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Alexa still gives her free time to Sawdust’s mission.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
Finally, Sawdust passed his test and began visiting children’s hospitals or nursing homes. Wearing his official blue vest, he walked calmly through busy corridors, bringing smiles to patients of all ages. Children eagerly held out apple slices and carrots, their eyes shining with delight as Sawdust gently took treats from their palms. “He knows exactly who needs him most,” Alexa often observed, watching him approach a lonely elder or a nervous child. The little horse had transformed from a frightened rescue into a confident healer, his golden coat shining under bright lights.
Alexa still gives her free time to Sawdust’s mission. Together they attend community events, raising funds and spreading awareness about therapy animals. Last year alone, they completed over ninety visits. “When he first arrived, he hated the truck,” Alexa recalled, “but now he jumps right in because he knows we’re bringing joy to others.” Standing beside her small partner, she sees Jordyn’s happy smile reflected on countless faces. That summer in the hospital had planted a seed of kindness, which has now become something far beyond her wildest dreams.

Raise your hands, please. Wow, there are a lot of hands. Doctors recommend that teens get at least eight to ten hours of sleep each night. Later on in the lesson will be talking about how stress and screen addiction can also impact our sleep. But first we're going to study the ten, three, two, one sleep role. This means that ten hours before bed, you stop drinking tea, coffee and other energy drinks. Your last meal of the day should be at least three hours before bed. Homework and other work should be completed at least two hours before bed. One hour before bed, you shut off all screens. These tips will help ready your body for sleep and help you drop off to sleep much more quickly. Good morning, everyone. It's time for our weekly health class.
B.Jed’s successful career in rock music.
C.How Josh found a valuable jacket in a thrift store.
D.The hard life of Jed and his brother in their childhood.

B.Adrenaline can be used to your advantage.
C.This technique helps build a positive mindset.
D.The fear can be reduced by focusing on the topic.
E.This will make you seem more reliable to the audience.
F.Instead, focus on how your message can benefit the audience.
G.Practicing can help you feel more comfortable with the material.

This small act makes my whole day 51 .” So, when his friends say he is always in a good mood, he 52 tells them, “It’s all about noticing the little things.” And it’s true for him.
This story teaches us 53 valuable lessons: being thankful, being calm, and cherishing small moments. Being 54 means you never take the kind things in life for granted. Being calm helps you face difficulties better. Cherishing small moments helps you 55 the beauty in everyday life. Then just like the old man and Li Ming, you can always find joy in your life.

注意:
1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Finally, Sawdust passed his test and began visiting children’s hospitals or nursing homes.
