Angelina Tsuboi, 18, discovered her passion for innovation at the age of 7. With her teacher’s guidance, she created a puzzle game. Solving problems on her own gave her a strong sense of achievement, which made her love programming.
In 2021, she developed her first app, Megaphone, to solve unanswered classroom questions. Two years later, inspired by her experience as the child of a single mother, she created Lilac, an app that helps non-English-speaking single parents access housing resources. In 2024, she learned to fly, but struggled to find financial support. She then created Pilot Fast Track, an app that helps future pilots find scholarships for flight training.
Looking ahead, Angelina hopes to explore the field that combines computer science and electrical engineering. She advises young people: “No matter what situation you are in, there is always a way to make it a little better.”

“I’ve always enjoyed gardening, but I’ve always been aware from the get-go that there had to be more to being a professional garden designer than that,” says Karen Martin, who worked in real estate before changing careers. “I committed to gaining a deeper understanding of the principles of design. To do that I signed up for a difficult training program that covered everything from the basics of landscape design to more advanced topics.”
In addition to formal education, gaining practical experience is essential for developing the skills needed to be a successful garden designer. “I also spent countless hours volunteering at botanical gardens to gain hands-on experience in the field,” Karen recalls. “It was during these experiences that I learned about plant care and design, and how they interact to create beautiful outdoor spaces.”
“Those interested in becoming a landscape gardener may try building a collection of photographs, drafts, or computer drawings of garden plans that demonstrate skills and creativity,” Karen suggests. “As I gained experience, I started building a catalogue (目录簿) of my work to show my abilities to potential clients or employers.”
One of the most rewarding aspects of the job for Karen has been the opportunity to work with clients to turn their outdoor spaces into something truly unique and beautiful. “I love listening to my clients’ visions and bringing them to life through thoughtful design and plant selection. Seeing the joy on their faces as they walk through their newly designed garden is an experience that never gets old,” says Karen.
“Of course, like any profession, there are challenges. The long hours are tiring, and the weather and soil conditions can all present obstacles (障碍) to creating the perfect outdoor space. But it’s these challenges that make the job all the more rewarding when you’re able to overcome them and create something truly special.
“All in all, becoming a professional garden designer allows me to combine my love for nature with my desire to create beauty. Plus, I always end up having a good night’s rest due to the physical parts of the job. I wouldn’t have it any other way,” Karen concludes.
24.What might Karen think of the training program?
A.It played a key role in her job switch.
B.It was too difficult for her to complete.
C.It focused much on basic designing.
D.It failed to meet her expectations.

Hydrogen fuel-cell (氢燃料电池) vehicles aren’t just sources for science fiction or far-out experiments. Cars fueled by hydrogen, like the Toyota Mirai and Hyundai Nexo, are already here, and hydrogen fuel-cell technology is actively evolving and benefiting from billions of dollars in research. So, why are hydrogen cars nearly non-existent on U.S. roads today?
“The answer is simple: economics,’ Sergey Paltsev, a senior scientist at the MIT Energy Initiative told Popular Science. Politicians and automakers once advocated the fuel cell, which turns the chemical energy of hydrogen into electricity to drive an electric motor, as the future of passenger automobiles, but the falling cost of batteries and a large number of electrical fueling infrastructure have propelled battery-electric cars well into the lead (propel sth. into the lead.)
A big switch to hydrogen cars would require cost-cutting and enormous infrastructure development. The Department of Energy’s Alternative Fuels Data Center shows 55 public hydrogen fueling station locations in the U.S. today, almost only in California, while more than 68,000 active public electric vehicle charging stations across the country.
“Nothing is going to change next year, or probably not in the next five years, but there are brighter pathways for hydrogen vehicles,” said Paltsev. It turns out that hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles have advantageous applications in medium-duty (中型的) and heavy-duty trucks and aviation (航空). Besides, battery electric vehicles can be problematic when you have problems with range, fueling time or heavy loads.
The current impractical application of hydrogen passenger vehicles in places like the U.S. is not a reason to“just give up” on hydrogen fuel-cell tech. “We may need it for many other reasons in the future,” cautioned Paltsev, noting that geopolitical (地缘政治的) issues could prevent access to raw materials for batteries, thus making hydrogen cars suddenly more economically workable.
28.Why are hydrogen cars not commonly seen on U S roads today?
A.Lack of public awareness. B.Unavailability of hydrogen fuel.
C.Limited research and development. D.High costs and insufficient infrastructure.
29.What is Sergey Paltsev’s attitude towards hydrogen vehicles in the future?
A.Hopeful. B.Doubtful. C.Indifferent. D.Confused.
30.What can be learned about hydrogen fuel-cell tech from the passage?
A.It is already cost-effective for passenger vehicles.
B.It fails to solve the problems with range or fueling time.
C.It is practicable due to potential issues resulting from geopolitics.
D.It has unsatisfactory applications in heavy-duty trucks and aviation.
31.What would be the best title for this passage?
A.Battery-Electric Vehicles: A Glorious Era
B.Hydrogen Vehicles: Struggling Yet Promising
C.Why Are We Not Driving Electric Powered Cars?
D.How to Build a Public Hydrogen Fueling Station?
【答案】28.D 29.A 30.C 31.B
根据第三段“A big switch to hydrogen cars would require cost-cutting and enormous infrastructure development. (想要大规模普及氢燃料汽车,既要降低成本,还需投入巨额资金完善配套基础设施。)”可知,如今在美国的道路上很少见到氢能源汽车是因为成本高昂且基础设施不足。
29.推理判断题。根据第四段““Nothing is going to change next year, or probably not in the next five years, but there are brighter pathways for hydrogen vehicles,” said Paltsev. (“明年不会有任何改变,或者至少在接下来的五年内不会,但氢能源汽车的发展前景更加光明,”帕尔采夫说。)”可知,谢尔盖·帕尔采夫对未来氢能源汽车充满希望。
30.细节理解题。根据最后一段“The current impractical application of hydrogen passenger vehicles in places like the U.S. is not a reason to“just give up” on hydrogen fuel-cell tech. “We may need it for many other reasons in the future,” cautioned Paltsev, noting that geopolitical (地缘政治的) issues could prevent access to raw materials for batteries, thus making hydrogen cars suddenly more economically workable. (目前在美国等地区氢能源乘用车的不切实际应用,并不能成为“放弃”氢燃料电池技术的理由。帕尔采夫警告称:“未来我们可能出于其他许多原因需要它。”他指出,地缘政治问题可能会阻碍电池原材料的获取,从而使氢能源汽车突然在经济上更具可行性。)”可知,因地缘政治可能带来的问题,使氢燃料电池技术具有可行性。
31.主旨大意题。根据第一段“Hydrogen fuel-cell (氢燃料电池) vehicles aren’t just sources for science fiction or far-out experiments. Cars fueled by hydrogen, like the Toyota Mirai and Hyundai Nexo, are already here, and hydrogen fuel-cell technology is actively evolving and benefiting from billions of dollars in research. So, why are hydrogen cars nearly non-existent on U. S. roads today?
D
Urban green spaces, such as city parks and community gardens, are widely recognized for their role in improving air quality and relieving urban heat islands. However, a recent ecological research highlights their overlooked function in protecting urban biodiversity, which is crucial for maintaining the stability of urban ecosystems. But such hidden ecological value is rarely mentioned in city construction planning reports.
With the rapid expansion of cities, many wild species have lost their natural habitats and are forced to move to urban areas. Urban green spaces act as “ecological corridors” that connect isolated green patches, allowing animals to move, find food and mate safely. These spaces provide shelter and food for a variety of species, from birds and insects to small mammals, helping them survive in the man-made urban environment.
Researchers conducted a three-year survey in 50 urban green spaces across different cities. They found that green spaces with diverse native plants, rather than uniform foreign plants, host more species and form more complex ecological chains. Even small-scale green spaces, such as rooftop gardens and roadside flower beds, can make a significant difference in supporting urban biodiversity. Every tiny green plot serves as a safe mini habitat for vulnerable urban creatures.
Despite their importance, urban green spaces are often under threat from urban development and poor upkeep. Many cities prioritize large-scale construction work over green space protection, leading to the loss of valuable ecological habitats. In addition, few workers regularly water plants, or trim bushes or clear rubbish in city parks, which, consequently, causes too much waste to cover the lawns. Experts appeal that urban planning should give higher priority to building and protecting diverse green spaces, making cities not only suitable for human living but also friendly to all forms of life.
32.What is the newly discovered key function of urban green spaces in the passage?
A.Adjusting city climate by cutting temperatures in residential areas.
B.Cleaning air and reducing the bad influence of heat islands.
C.Protecting various living species in city environments.
D.Providing open public land for people’s daily relaxation.
33.What can we infer about isolated green patches without “ecological corridors”?
A.These lands can offer enough safe shelters for small mammals.
B.These lands cannot guarantee animals’ safe migration and breeding.
C.These lands are more likely to form complicated food chains.
D.These lands can take the place of big city parks for wildlife protection.
34.What conclusion can we draw from the three-year ecological study?
A.Single foreign plant types can support more wildlife varieties.
B.Small roof gardens have almost no good influence on biodiversity.
C.Growing different native plants helps form richer urban ecological systems.
D.Green lands in different cities create the same level of species diversity.
35.The word “upkeep” in the last paragraph most probably means .
A.mass unemployment B.daily maintenance
C.plant transplant work D.industrial production
根据原文第一段“However, a recent ecological research highlights their overlooked function in protecting urban biodiversity, which is crucial for maintaining the stability of urban ecosystems.(然而,近期一项生态学研究强调了城市绿地被忽视的功能——保护城市生物多样性,这一功能对维持城市生态系统的稳定至关重要。)”
根据原文第二段“Urban green spaces act as “ecological corridors” that connect isolated green patches, allowing animals to move, find food and mate safely.(城市绿地充当连接碎片化孤立绿地的“生态廊道”,让动物能够安全迁徙、觅食与繁衍。)”
根据原文第三段“They found that green spaces with diverse native plants, rather than uniform foreign plants, host more species and form more complex ecological chains.(他们发现,种植多样本土植物的绿地,而非种植单一外来植物的绿地,能容纳更多物种,形成更复杂的生态链。)”
根据原文最后一段“Despite their importance, urban green spaces are often under threat from urban development and poor upkeep.(尽管城市绿地意义重大,但它们时常遭受城市开发与upkeep不善带来的威胁。)”及“In addition, few workers regularly water plants, or trim bushes or clear rubbish in city parks, which, consequently, causes too much waste to cover the lawns.(此外,很少有工作人员定期给公园植物浇水、修剪灌木、清理垃圾,最终导致大量垃圾覆盖草坪。)”

It helps them build appreciation (感激). Maybe your teenagers don’t know that many animals and people out there need help. Let them get out there and understand the trouble of families living from hand to mouth. They will know how lucky they are and form a new idea. 38 .
It helps them widen their social circle. A teen’s social circle is mainly friends from school and family. While volunteering, teens get the chance to meet people outside of their usual circle. Volunteering lets teens meet like-minded people. 39 . Moreover, they’ll learn how to behave and communicate with people from different backgrounds.
40 . While picking from different volunteering chances, teens can choose an area that interests them. For instance, if they are interested in teaching, they can choose to volunteer as a tutor. If they’re passionate about animals, they can help at an animal shelter. If they’re undecided, they can try to discover untapped interests.
A.They not only bring care and help to others
B.It helps them explore and discover interests
C.Some of them could actively impact their future
D.It helps them develop life skills and know their worth
E.Volunteering is a way for every teen to feel able and satisfied
F.That’s the reason why teenagers should take up volunteering chances
G.Soon, not getting their new pair of jeans or a new watch won’t seem as bad

Poetry and painting are inseparable in Chinese culture. Many painters took ancient poetry 56 their inspiration, either directly illustrating famous lines of poems or 57 (attempt) to evoke (唤起) them more delicately in the mind of the viewer. The 58 (poet) tradition, which reaches back over two thousand years, provided these artists with 59 rich wellspring to draw from, including poems on nature and ancient ceremonies and customs. For painters who were 60 (they) poets, one of the greatest ambitions was to create a work 61 combined their original poetry, calligraphy, and painting into a well-organized artwork, known as the “three perfections” in Chinese.
The exhibition in the Metropolitan Museum of Art (MET) 62 (explore) some of the ways in which Chinese painters engaged with poetry 63 (build) connections and develop layers of meaning in their art. Featuring 90 works 64 (draw) almost entirely from the MET’s collection, the exhibition presents a selection of painting, calligraphy, and decorative arts. 65 (cover) works inspired by ancient Chinese poetry such as The Book of Odes (Shijing), poetry of the Tang Dynasty, Chan / Zen Buddhist poetry, and more, the exhibition examines the ways in which the image and the poetry inspired and impacted one another over time.
56.as 57.attempting 58.poetic 59.a 60.themselves 61.that/which 62.explores 63.to build 64.drawn 65.Covering
take...as...

To achieve this, we must take action. First, let’s respect discipline by keeping classrooms tidy and following schedules. Besides, we’re supposed to cultivate kindness, being polite, helping others and spreading positivity.
My grandfather, a retired carpenter with rough yet deft (灵巧的) hands, had been utterly obsessed with carving delicate wooden handicrafts ever since his early adulthood. Back in my childhood, I would crouch quietly beside his worn wooden workbench, gazing attentively as he meticulously (细致地) cut, polished and carved solid wood with professional tools. Every time, he would spare no effort to craft delicate little wooden toys for me, turning plain wood into vivid artworks with his exceptional craftsmanship.
As I was promoted to senior three, the increasingly heavy academic burden completely occupied my daily life. I barely spared any time to accompany my grandfather, let alone sit beside him to appreciate his woodcarving creations. Buried endlessly in piles of textbooks, exercise books and endless homework, I even grew impatient and irritable whenever he approached me softly, urging me to take a break or sip a cup of warm milk.
Last month, grandfather was struck down by a sudden illness and confined to bed for a long period. The doctor stressed that he had been overworked mentally and physically, crying for adequate rest and careful nursing. One afternoon, I finished all my homework ahead of schedule and stepped into his study, which used to be filled with the faint, warm scent of wood. To my bitter disappointment, the once tidy workbench was covered with thick dust, and all his well-kept woodworking tools were neatly stored away in silence.
On the corner of the dusty workbench lay a half-finished delicate wooden jewelry box, which he had secretly planned to craft as a unique birthday gift for me. Unfortunately, his sudden illness forced him to put down the tools and pause the carving work.
1.所续写短文的词数应为150左右;
Looking at the unfinished box, I was suddenly lost and rooted to the ground.

With a smile written on his face, he agreed to help me with it.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 1: Looking at the unfinished box, I was suddenly lost and rooted to the ground. I felt a strong sense of guilt, regretting my cold attitude towards him these days. I walked quietly to grandfather’s bedroom to visit him. His eyes were closed gently, and his face looked much paler than before, which made my heart twist with deeper guilt. I held his wrinkled hand carefully, feeling the rough touch that had made countless delicate wooden works for me. Sensing my presence, grandfather opened his eyes slowly, forcing a warm smile without any sign of blame. He whispered softly that he hadn’t meant to disturb my busy homework time, just hoping I could stay relaxed. Tears blurred my eyes instantly, and I apologized sincerely for my cold attitude, promising to spend more time with him and urging that I manage the box myself.
Paragraph 2: With a smile written on his face, he agreed to help me with it. The next day, I followed my decision to finish the wooden box. I pushed his wheelchair to the warm study and sat beside the dusty workbench, holding the half-finished gift carefully. Under his patient guidance, I tried to polish the wood gently, just like he used to do. Grandfather told me the details of carving with a bright smile, and the whole room was filled with warm wood scent again. It took us two days to complete the wooden box, but what I gained was far more than a delicate gift — it was the precious warmth of family and the true meaning of accompanying our loved ones.

25.What does Karen suggest potential landscape gardeners do?
A.Start their own garden.
B.Listen to employers’ ideas.
C.Volunteer at botanical gardens.
D.Build up their bank of work samples.
26.What gives Karen lasting joy in her work?
A.Working long hours under the sun.
B.Watching clients’ satisfied reactions.
C.Overcoming bad weather and soil conditions.
D.Gaining a deeper understanding of gardening.
27.For what reason does Karen appreciate the physical aspect of her job?
A.It benefits her sleep.
B.It keeps her energetic.
C.It strengthens her muscles.
D.It inspires her curiosity about nature.
