Ranking My Summer Experiences
I have engaged in three practical activities throughout my summer vacation. When it comes to ranking my summer experiences, I believe household labor ranks first, followed by volunteering and outdoor‑exploring.
Household labor tops my list. Not only does it equip me with basic life skills, but it also helps me gain a better understanding of my parents’ hard work. Volunteering comes second, which offers me precious opportunities to lend a hand to others and improve my social skills. As for outdoor‑exploring, it enables me to get closer to nature.
All these worthwhile experiences contribute greatly to my personal growth. Looking back, I truly value what I have gained from these summer activities.
Ranking My Summer Experiences
I spent my summer holiday on three kinds of practical activities. Each has its value, yet I still sort them by their influence on my growth.
Volunteering is my top choice. It improves my communication and develops my social responsibility. Only by serving the public can I know the joy of devotion. Next is outdoor-exploring. Useful as housework is, its influence stays within my family.
I cherish every experience and keep improving myself during the whole vacation.
Ranking My Summer Experiences
The three activities left deep impressions on me this summer. From my perspective, they differ greatly in their value to my personal development.
Outdoor-exploring comes first, which frees me from study pressure. Only when facing outdoor troubles do I learn to solve problems on my own. Household labor takes second place. Though volunteering warms others, it helps my self-growth the least.
All these experiences enrich my holiday and push me to become a better person.
One possible version
Paragraph1:Just then, a soft-spoken polite young man walked past. He spotted me sitting on the ground with a painful look and the crowd of onlookers. He stepped forward at once and kindly asked what had happened. Hearing that my right ankle got badly sprained, he said he would take me to the nearby hospital. Seeing my embarrassment, he comforted me with a gentle smile. Soon he fetched a wheelchair from a nearby shop and helped me sit down. He pushed the wheelchair slowly through the noisy street while Sumi kept close beside me.
Paragraph2:After the doctor checked my sprained ankle, I was asked to stay in the hospital. The young man didn’t leave immediately. He helped Sumi settle me into the ward, fetched water for me, and even ran to get the prescribed medicine. When I tried to thank him, he just smiled and said it was nothing. He stayed until my ankle was properly bandaged and I felt a little better. Before I could ask his name, he quietly left, leaving only his warm kindness in my heart. From then on, I decided to pass on this kindness to others in need.

Text 10
W: For Christmas this year, a St. Louis man called Phillip Willet decided to use artificial intelligence(AI) to recreate his late father's voice as a present for his mother.
Willett said that his wife, Kassandra Willett, was the first person to give him the idea to use AI, something he had been using in his professional work for clients.
"At first, I didn't really want to get into that. I thought it was kind of strange," Willett recalled his original hesitation. But the suggestion stuck with him and he decided to search online to see if other people had done anything similar.
Willett found "a whole community" of people who had successfully tried using AI voice software to recreate the voices of people they cared about. Soon after, Willett changed his mind and gave it a try using text-to-speech software.
“The actual first words that I put into the program were 'Hi, honey'. I can't tell you how many times I've heard my father say that in my life," Willett said. “When the program said it in his voice, my eyes filled with tears. That's when I was like, I'm doing this no matter what.”
Willett not only recreated his late father's voice, but also put together a video with photos of him with his mom, and combined them all into a video book. After it all came together, he presented the final product to his mom. “ What the AI was able to do with that video is really a summary of their life,” he said.

解析:依据文中 “The Barcelona hit wasn't part of the team for Euro 2024, but he did win an Olympic gold medal that same summer” 可知,Pau Cubarsi 在 2024 年夏天赢得了奥运金牌,选项 D 与原文语义一致。A 选项 “He joined FC Barcelona in the year 2023.” 与文中 “Date joined: 2024” 不符;B 选项 “He was a member of Spain’s team for Euro 2024.” 与 “The Barcelona hit wasn't part of the team for Euro 2024” 矛盾;C 选项 “He is a forward with excellent ball control ability.”

解析:依据文中 “Her passion for photography ignited when she got her first digital camera” 可知,Lorraine 对摄影的热情是在她得到第一台数码相机时被点燃的,选项 B 与原文语义一致。A 选项 “Her early encounters with wildlife.”
解析:由文中 “Beyond photography, she actively contributes to conservation efforts, collaborating with various organizations on tree-planting and other projects consistent with the Sustainable Development Goals” 可知,Lorraine 在摄影之外,会与各种组织合作开展植树等与可持续发展目标相符的项目,也就是与环保组织合作,选项 C 正确。A 选项 “Reintroduce rare species.” 无原文依据;D 选项 “Provide financial support for zoos.”
26. 答案 A。 解析:根据文中 “She considers herself both an environmentalist and a wildlife photographer, using her images as a tool for change... inspiring action to protect it for future generations” 可知,Lorraine 认为自己既是环保主义者也是野生动物摄影师,她用自己的照片作为改变的工具,激发人们为子孙后代保护地球的行动,即野生动物摄影是对保护野生动物的呼吁,选项 A 正确。B 选项 “A way to associate with people.” 不准确,她希望用摄影连接人们和自然;C 选项 “A tool to change her own figure.” 文中未提及改变自身形象;D 选项 “A strategy to beautify her images.”
A 选项 “Lorraine's lifelong love of nature.” 只是她走上摄影和环保之路的基础,并非文章主要内容;B 选项 “The combination of Lorraine’s career and hobbies.” 文章重点并非其银行职业与摄影爱好的结合,而是她在摄影和环保方面的作为;C 选项 “The role of photography in our planet’s conservation.”
解析:依据文中 “The European Environment Agency reported last year that... It found that the harm caused was greater than from secondhand tobacco smoke exposure” 可知,欧洲环境署发现噪音污染造成的危害比二手烟更大,选项 D 与原文语义一致。A 选项 “Worsening hearing disorder.” 与文中 “noise is not an uncontrollable part of city life” 相悖;C 选项 “66,000 early deaths every month.”
29. 答案 A。 解析:由文中 “China’s official statistics suggests significant improvements there in the last decade. That’s not just down to... Authorities have also installed sound barriers and laid tens of millions of square metres of quieter road surfacing” 可知,中国在过去十年噪音污染情况有显著改善,不仅是因为电动汽车增多等原因,当局还安装了隔音屏障、铺设了静音路面等,由此可推断出当局采取了有效措施,选项 A 正确。B 选项 “The closure of loud venues is ineffective.” 与文中提到的关闭嘈杂场所是改善措施之一不符;C 选项 “The rise of electric vehicles is the key factor.” 文中提到改善原因是多方面的,并非仅电动汽车增多这一关键因素;D 选项 “Noise pollution in China has been controlled.”
解析:文中提到 “One of the subtler consequences of auditory pollution is not what it imposes on us, but what it takes away. Animals and even plants are acutely sensitive to loud noises, and can be damaged by them. Traffic noise drowns out the rustling of trees. Those who learn to tune out what’s around them no longer mind the birdsong”,作者提及动物和植物是为了说明交通噪音除了对人类健康有影响外,还有一种隐藏的有害影响,即剥夺了我们周围自然的声音,让我们忽略了一些美好的事物,选项 B 正确。A 选项 “To show that noise pollution affects their living surroundings.”文中未提及影响他们的生存环境;C 选项 “To call on people to protect animals and plants from noise.” 文章重点并非呼吁保护动植物免受噪音影响;D 选项 “To prove that animals and plants are more sensitive than humans.”
A 选项 “Birdsong: A Hidden Threat to Health.” 与文章主旨不符,鸟鸣并非威胁;B 选项 “Sound insulation: A Solution To Traffic Noise.” 隔音设施只是应对噪音的一种手段,不能概括全文;D 选项 “China’s Progress: A Model to Address Noise Pollution.”
解析:根据文中 “The rise of generative AI platforms has led to a sharp increase in fake and enhanced images of rare and celebrated birds across wildlife photography forums” 可知,生成式 AI 平台的兴起导致了假鸟类图片的急剧增加,选项 C 与原文语义一致。A 选项 “The demand of recording rare bird species.”
33. 答案 A。 解析:由文中 “They said that the true scale of the issue is unknown – as many could go undetected – and could infect records collected by the public” 可知,假鸟类图片可能会污染公众收集的物种记录,选项 A 正确。B 选项 “Reduce the credibility of scientific journals.” 文章未提及假图片会降低科学期刊的可信度;C 选项 “Mislead the public’s understanding of bird species.” 这并非文中明确指出的假图片带来的潜在问题;D 选项 “Discourage people from participating in citizen science.”
A 选项 “Done with good intentions.”
解析:依据文中 “Tony Iwane... said most of these cases were unlikely to be malicious, but appealed to users to be cautious” 可知,Tony Iwane 建议用户在使用 AI 处理图片时要小心谨慎,选项 B 正确。A 选项 “Stop using AI to edit wildlife images.” 文中并未要求用户停止使用 AI 编辑野生动物图片;C 选项 “Report AI-generated images on the platform.”

38. 答案 F。解析:前文提到对 77 名男性青少年进行了 12 周的力量训练、高强度间歇训练或两者结合的训练,F 选项 “They showed ‘significant reductions’ in putting things off.”

56. 答案 on。
“12 - year” 是复合形容词,后面需要接名词,“operate” 是动词,其名词形式是 “operation”,“the 12 - year operation” 表示 “12 年的运营”,故填 operation。
59. 答案 to expand。 “pathways for...to do sth.”
60. 答案 The。
61. 答案 has run。 根据 “for 12 consecutive sessions” 可知,这里表示从过去开始持续到现在的动作,要用现在完成时,“the Global Zodiac Design Competition” 是单数,所以用 “has + 过去分词” 的形式,“run” 的过去分词是 “run”,故填 has run。
63. 答案 which。
65. 答案 and。 and连接三个并列的动词tell,preserve,promote,所以填 and。

The roar of late-night traffic is not just annoying for those trying to sleep. It can also
have profound effects on their health.A pioneering new study, published this month, has
found a clear link between road noise and Parkinson's disease. The research, which followed
more than 3 million Danish participants, found a modest but consistent effect:for every 11.
5dB()rise in noise level, the risk of the worsening disorder rose by 3%over the 18-year
study.
The study adds to the growing body of evidence that auditory bother is associated with
serious physical consequences. The European Environment Agency reported last year that
more than 110 million people across the continent suffer high levels of health-damaging noise
pollution, with physiological stress and sleep disturbance leading to 66,000 early deaths
annually as well as heart disease, diabetes and depression. It found that the harm caused was
greater than from secondhand tobacco smoke exposure.
However, noise is not an uncontrollable part of city life.China's official statistics
suggests significant improvements there in the last decade. That's not just down to the rise of
electric vehicles, declining construction and closures of loud venues.Authorities have also
installed sound barriers and laid tens of millions of square metres of quieter road surfacing.
Improved engineering and even lower speed limits can bring benefits.Sound insulation
(隔音设施)for homes and reliance on noise-cancelling headphones should be a last resort.
One of the subtler consequences of auditory pollution is not what it imposes on us,but what
it takes away.Animals and even plants are acutely sensitive to loud noises, and can be
damaged by them.Traffic noise drowns out the rustling of trees. Those who learn to tune out
what's around them no longer mind the birdsong. Not all noise is unwelcome. But we should
do more to address the sounds that bring misery, not least so that we can experience those
that bring joy.
28.What does noise pollution result in based on the European Environment Agency?
A.Worsening hearing disorder.
B.An uncontrollable consequence.
C.66,000 early deaths every month.
D.A worse damage than secondhand tobacco smoke.
29.What can we infer about China's efforts to reduce noise pollution?
A.Authorities have taken effective measures
B.The closure of loud venues is ineffective.
C.The rise of electric vehicles is the key factor.
D.Noise pollution in China has been controlled.
30.Why does the author mention animals and plants?
A.To show that noise pollution affects their living surroundings.
B.To explain that traffic noise has a hidden harmful effect.
C.To call on people to protect animals and plants from noise.
D.To prove that animals and plants are more sensitive than humans.
31.Which of the following is the best title for the passage?
A.Birdsong:A Hidden Threat to Health
B.Sound insulation:A Solution to Traffic Noise
C.Noise Pollution:A Bother to Health
D.China's Progress:A Model to Address Noise Pollution

The rise of generative AI platforms has led to a sharp increase in fake and enhanced
images of rare and celebrated birds across wildlife photography forums.Users can create
high-quality fake images in seconds-or enhance a photograph by asking the AI to remove a
branch or leaf that might be covering part of the subject, which can unintentionally introduce
significant changes.
In a recent commentary in the science journal Nature, researchers warned that hundreds
of fake images have already been discovered on popular databases for recording species. They
said that the true scale of the issue is unknown-as many could go undetected-and could
infect records collected by the public.
"My experience of looking at Facebook these days is that a huge volume of wildlife
photos now are simply AI-generated imagery, said Dr Alexander Lees,an ecologist at
Manchester Metropolitan University who authored the journal article."The idea that we
could maybe use those photos to help us understand where species are in space and time is
very difficult."Complete fakes remain rare and are often easy to spot, said Lees-nobody is
falling for a toucan sighting in Siberia-but he says birders often use AI to edit and improve
an image, and the algorithm (can then introduce parts from different bird species to
create the new image.
Citizen science organisations are working to understand the scale of the issue. On
iNaturalist,a social network where nature enthusiasts can record sightings of plants and
animals, just 1,400 of the more than 610 million images on the platform have been flagged
for AI use. From monitoring how plants and animals move in response to climate breakdown
to recording new behaviour in species, dozens of discoveries have been made using citizen
science.Tony Iwane,iNaturalist's director of community support,who was a co-author on
the Nature paper, said most of these cases were unlikely to be malicious, but appealed to
users to be cautious.
32.What has caused a dramatic rise in fake bird images?
A.The demand of recording rare bird species.
B.The popularity of wildlife photography.
C.The increase of generative AI platforms.
D.The improvement of photography technology.
33.What is a potential problem caused by fake bird images?
A.Pollute public-collected species records.
B.Reduce the credibility of scientific journals.
C.Mislead the public's understanding of bird species.
D.Discourage people from participating in citizen science.
34.What does the underlined word "malicious"in the last paragraph mean?
A.Done with good intentions.
B.Difficult to detect.
C.Intended to cause harm.
D.Easy to understand.
35.What does Tony Iwane advise users to do?
A.Stop using AI to edit wildlife images.
B.Be careful when using AI to process images.
C.Report AI-generated images on the platform.
D.Focus on monitoring wildlife.

Putting things off costs a lot.One study published in 2013 ranked 22,053 people on a
procrastination()scale of one to five. Each increase of one point was associated with a
drop of nearly 15,000 in annual earnings.A study of 3,525 Swedish university students
published in 2023 also found that procrastinators more likely to suffer anxiety, stress and
loneliness.36
37 One set is known as mental contrasting with implementation intentions(MCII).
Popularised in a number of smartphone apps, the idea is simple:picture the benefits of
achieving a goal;contrast that image with the main obstacle;and picture a strategy to
overcome it.In two randomised trials reported in 2020 undergraduates were given online
MCII exercises designed to reduce the delaying of bedtime, which research has linked to
procrastination in general. They missed their intended bedtimes by around 38 minutes less
each night than those in a control group given advice about healthy sleeping habits.
Exercise shows promise too.A Chinese trial published in March assessed procrastination
in 77 male teenagers. They were randomly assigned to 12 weeks of strength training,high-
intensity interval training,or a combination of the two.38 An earlier study of 564
Chinese university students found that the most physically active also procrastinated less.
The researchers speculated that overcoming the stress gave them a "sense of mastery"that
boosted confidence and motivation.
These days, opportunities for procrastination are greater than before. Many people work
from home, out of the boss's sight.39 In one review published in 2022,each of the 18
studies assessed linked excessive scrolling (to procrastination.40 Lack of sleep
blocks executive function, leading to more failures of self-regulation.It would be helpful if
the scientists involved could stop procrastination.
A.Mental exercises appear to help.
B.Smartphones often delay bedtime,too.
C.Smartphones offer endless distractions.
D.Here are some ways to stop procrastinating.
E.Then there is the question of diet and other habits.
F.They showed "significant reductions"in putting things off.
G.Procrastinators are more likely to delay medical treatment.

During my college years in Bangalore in the early 1980s,there was no internet, popular
television or social media. My friends and I enjoyed simple, real world pleasures:interesting
books, endless casual chats and,my personal favourite, wonderful movies every Saturday.
Busy with crowded cafes and hurrying crowds of citizens,Bangalore was always lively, and
local cinemas were its greatest attraction.
One bright weekend,my close friend Sumi and I planned to head for a well-known
theatre on Brigade Road..We climbed into a noisy rickshaw(人力车),which rattled and
wound its way through heavy traffic.Brigade Road was in complete chaos, packed with
speeding bikes,.honking cars and busy passers-by.
When we finally arrived near the theatre,I stepped carelessly onto the uneven roadside
and suddenly slipped.Sharp burning pain shot through my right ankle.I cried out loud,
instantly drawing the attention of surrounding strangers.Curious locals gathered around to
stare out of pure curiosity, yet nobody reached out a hand to offer help.
Sumi hurried about desperately, waving her arms to stop a rickshaw.Unfortunately,
every available vehicle had already gone past. She grew upset and helpless, too nervous to
turn up and ask unfamiliar strangers for assistance.
