We may not often see it, but all plants are on the move. They move slowly as they grow. Their roots grow down into the soil because they sense gravity (重力). This is known as gravitropism. Roots can also sense water in the soil and grow towards it. This is called hydrotropism. At the same time, plants reach for the sunlight as they grow. The scientific term (术语) for this is phototropism.
But some plants can move very fast. The Venus flytrap (捕蝇草) is one example. The plant is famous for catching insects. When insects touch its leaves, those leaves close and eat them in less than half a second.
Some other plants use fast movements not to eat insects, but to spread their pollen (花粉) into the air. The bunchberry dogwood (御膳桔) is a great example. It is considered the fastest-moving plant in the world.
Another plant, the hairyflower petunia (毛花矮牵牛), moves fast when spreading its seeds into the air. Each of its seed pods (荚) holds seeds inside. When the pods reach a certain size, they split open and throw out seeds like balls from a machine. The seeds spin (旋转) nearly 100,000 times each minute.
So next time you go for a walk in the yard, a park or the woods, take a moment to watch the plants around you. They may seem completely motionless. But they’re always moving in their own ways.
( ) 26. Which of the following is an example of phototropism?
A. Flowers facing the sun. B. Petunias covering the wall.
C. Roots reaching deep down. D. Grass growing faster by the lake.
( ) 27. What is the main idea of paragraphs 3 and 4?
A. The seeds of different plant species spin at different speeds.
B. Plants can be divided into fast-moving and slow-moving ones.
C. Some plants move fast when spreading their pollen or seeds into the air.
D. The bunchberry dogwood is completely different from the hairyflower petunia.
( ) 28. What does the underlined word “motionless” probably mean?
A. Common. B. Still. C. Beautiful. D. Dead.
( ) 29. What is the best title for the text?
A. The hidden movements of plants
B. The secrets of plants’ eating habits
C. How plants grow and spread seeds
D. Why some plants need to move
( ) 30. Why can the Venus flytrap catch insects successfully?
A. Its roots grow quickly towards water. B. Its leaves close in a very short time.
C. It can spin seeds at high speed. D. It grows well under sunlight.

In 2012, a big change happened to Jimmy Augustin. He went blind. Because of this, he had to give up his favourite sport — football. Luckily, in 2020, Jimmy learned about blind football and decided to have a go.
“I never thought I would play football again. I thought I could never play any kind of sport. But now the chance is back. I’m really happy with it,” Jimmy said excitedly. Now 25-year-old Jimmy is the captain of the Kator Blind Football Club in South Sudan. In his club members’ eyes, Jimmy is an excellent football star.
Blind football is different from traditional football. Each team has five players on the field at a time. Four players are completely blind and wear eye masks. The goalkeeper (守门员) is partly blind or not blind at all, and he needs to communicate with the four players and provide necessary information for them. The ball is also special. It has bells (铃) inside and can make noise as it moves. People must be silent while watching the match, so players can hear the ball clearly. For safety, a player must shout “voy” (meaning “I’m going”) before trying to take the ball away from other players. This helps stop the players from getting hurt. Their coaches stand on the sidelines and shout out advice on where to move.
Blind football was invented in the 1920s. However, it wasn’t accepted by the International Blind Sports Federation until 1996. In 2004, blind football became an event at the Paralympics. Since then, the sport has been more and more popular all over the world.
( ) 31. How does the writer start the text?
A. By using a saying. B. By telling a true story.
C. By asking a question. D. By giving an example.
( ) 32. Why must the player shout “voy” before trying to take the ball away?
A. To make the other team afraid of him.
B. To remind the goalkeeper to prepare.
C. To ask his team members to cheer for him.
D. To protect other players from getting hurt.
( ) 33. What is the last paragraph mainly about?
A. Why blind football gets popular. B. Why blind football was invented.
C. How blind football has developed. D. How blind football influences the blind.
( ) 34. Why does the writer write the text?
A. To ask people to care for blind people.
B. To introduce the sport of blind football.
C. To teach people how to play blind football.
D. To encourage blind people to play blind football.
( ) 35. What can we learn about the ball used in blind football?
A. It has bells inside and can make sounds.
B. It is bigger than a common football.
C. Coaches need to hold it for blind players.
D. Players can see it clearly in bright places.
四、任务型阅读(共5小题,每小题2分,共10分)
These days, kids spend much more time indoors because of technology. 36 Many researchers say outdoor‑playing kids are happier, more focused and less stressed.
Spending time in nature can build kids’ confidence. 37 Kids can decide how to play and how to explore the things around them. This helps them practise making their own choices and encourages their creativity and imagination.
38 For example, if they are asked to water a plant, they must take good care of it. This way, they learn that meaningful results come from care and responsibility.
Being outside gets kids moving, too. They can run, jump, climb and play games. No matter what they’re doing, they do more exercise than just sitting on the sofa. Actually, being outside is not just good for kids’ bodies. 39 After playing outside, many kids can focus better on their homework and listen more carefully in class. What’s more, being outside makes children think. 40 Interesting phenomena (现象) that happen naturally outdoors every day make kids ask questions about the earth and life.

Nature is a wonderful book, and reading the book doesn’t require complex (复杂的) tools. In simple ways, we can unlock 56. (it) secrets and make amazing discoveries.
First, be a 57. (care) observer. Pick a place in nature, like a garden or a park. Visit it often and write 58. what you see. You will notice whether the same bird visits every day, or discover at what time the flowers open. Doing this regularly (经常地) will open 59. window on life all around you.
Second, ask a question and then find the answer. For example, you might ask, “Do plants grow 60. (well) in sunlight or shade (阴凉处)?” To find out, you could try a simple test: plant the 61. (seed) of the same type in two pots, one in the sun and the other in shade, then observe and compare their 62. (grow) over time. This hands-on experience will turn your question into a real discovery.
Lastly, learn with others. This could mean 63. (simple) sharing your findings, or taking it a step further by working together on a nature project like studying a plant species or even going stargazing (观星).
Remember, every time you step outside, you hold the keys: the 64. (patient) to observe, the courage to test your ideas, and the joy of 65. (share) what you learn. Use them, stay curious, and you’ll discover the wonders around you.

八、
Dear Mr Wang,
I'm writing to apply for the position of the volunteer. I think I can do it well.
First of all, I'm an animal lover and clearly aware of the importance of protecting animals. Also, I'm interested in polar bears. I've read a lot of books about them, so I have a wide knowledge of this kind of animal. I believe I can answer all the questions about them. Besides, I'm good at speaking English. I won first place in last year's English speaking competition of our city, so I'm able to help the foreign tourists know more about the polar bears.
If I can get the position, I'll tell people the fact: As the earth is becoming warmer, the Arctic ice is melting. As a result, the number of polar bears is becoming smaller. It is our duty to stop it from getting worse, so I'll call on people to take action to protect the animals.
It will be a pleasure if I can get the position. I'm looking forward to your reply!
Yours,
Li Hua
