Step 1 Leading in

1.Greet the class and ask several students to retell Stephen Hawking’s story.

2.Review key words and phrases from the reading passage.

Step 2 Work on C

1.Present the article “The painter and the musician” about Vincent van Gogh and Ludwig van Beethoven.Ask students to read the words and phrases in the box before completing the text.

2.Ask students to complete the article individually and then check answers in pairs.

3.Read the completed article together and understand the spirit of the two famous people.

Step 3 Think and share

1.Present the three discussion questions in D:

(1)Find out the key sentences in the article.How does the writer support this idea?

(2)What do you think people can learn from Hawking’s story?

(3)Do you know any famous people who never give up?Share one example.

2.Let students discuss them in groups and share with the class.

Step 4 Summary and Homework

1.Summarize the spirit of never giving up from the three famous people.

2.Assign homework:Ask students to write a short passage about their role model who never gives up.

　　本课时填空练习完成度较好,学生能巩固词汇用法,但在拓展分享名人故事时,语言组织不够连贯。需加强句式支架提供,帮助学生规范表达人物事迹与精神品质。
