There are many colours in nature. But do you know if a colour has weight? I think you'll say "no". But I am afraid you are wrong. If you don't believe, you may do a small experiment.
First, put two objects with the same weight into two boxes. Then cover the box. Third, wrap one box with a red piece of paper, the other with a white piece of paper. OK. Now hold the boxes with your hand one by one. It is certain that you will think the red one is a little heavier.
Why do you think so? A scientist found that different colours have different weight in a man's mind. So he did many tests and at last he got the result. That is to say, every colour has its own weight in our mind and their order is the same. The heaviest colour is red, then blue, green, orange, yellow and white.
The scientist told us that colours also have smell. Can you smell the colour? Of course not. Then why did the scientist say so? That is because every colour stands for a kind of light with a certain wavelength. It reaches our brain through sense organs(感觉器官).
According to this discovery, scientists say that people accept the colours they like, and refuse the colours they hate. So your body and mind will be healthy by using the colours you like. Or you'll be nervous or even get ill. For example, if you stay in a room with red windows, wallpaper and furniture for two hours, you'll feel you have been there for four hours. But if the room is blue, you'll feel you have been there for only an hour. Another example, if a person walks out of a red room and into a blue room, his temperature will fall. That means our body temperature will change with different colours.
( )29. In peoples mind, different colours have different weight, orange is heavier than ______.
A. blue B. red C. green D. yellow
( )30. The purpose of the second paragraph is to tell us ______.
A. A red box is heavier than a white one. B. A colour has weight in one's mind.
C. White paper is lighter than red paper. D. You can know the weight of a colour by holding it.
( )31. Why did the scientist say colours have smell? ______
A. Because people can sense the light from colours.
B. Because we can smell colours with our nose.
C. Because every colour has its own sweet smell.
D. Because every colour can give off light of the same length.
( )32. If a person walks from a blue room to a red room, his body temperature will ______.
A. rise B. fall C. stay the same D. change now and then

Dads have Father’s Day. Moms have Mother’s Day. Kids have Children’s Day. Have the elderly have a special holiday? Yes, they do!
The Double Ninth Festival is a special day for elderly people in China. The festival is on the ninth day of the ninth month of the lunar calendar. As the Chinese word for nine has the same sound as the word for long, people take the Double Ninth Festival to show their wishes of long life for elderly people. This year it falls on Oct. 4.
There are many traditions for this festival. On that day, families get together and climb mountains for luck and in the hope that elderly people will live much longer. They also drink chrysanthemum wine (菊花酒) and wear a plant called zhuyu to celebrate it. Both chrysanthemum and zhuyu are regarded as clean plants that can clean houses and cure diseases.
Respecting elderly people is shown not only on this special day but also in daily life. For example, when an older person enters a room, everyone stands up. When there are several guests at the table, the host usually introduces them from the oldest to the youngest. When a younger person is presenting something to an older person, two hands are used. On a crowded subway or bus, younger people always offer their seats to elderly people.
It is a traditional virtue (美德) in China to respect elderly people. That’s because the Chinese know that elderly people have knowledge and experience that young people can learn from. So, Chinese people are proud of being old. Besides, to respect the elderly people is to respect yourself tomorrow.

A. fathers B. mothers C. children D. elderly people

A. It means they don’t have to work for others.

C. It means they have more virtues than others.
D. It means they are old enough to teach others.
D
Many Americans complain (抱怨) of sleepiness when clocks move forward for daylight saving time. It not only affects energy, but also harms heart health by breaking sleep and disturbing (扰乱) our circadian rhythm (昼夜节律) , the 24-hour body clock controlling biological activities.
“When we sleep, our heart and cardiovascular (心血管) system can rest and repair itself,” says Kelsie Full, a medical researcher. Poor sleep stops this system from working properly. Our cardiovascular system follows the circadian rhythm guided by natural sunlight. The one-hour time change in spring makes our waking hours out of step with this inner clock.
The US uses daylight saving time from March 8 to November 1, and about one third of other countries also follow it with different dates. Since 1966, Americans have kept this habit. Earlier small studies thought heart attack cases rose right after the time change, but a 2025 large study of nearly 170,000 patients found no such sharp increase.
The real risk lies in the months the following months. People may get over tiredness in 2 to 5 days, yet our bodies stay mismatched (不匹配) with natural light for eight long months. Lost sleep forces the heart to work harder. It pushes up stress hormones, blood pressure and inflammation, raising risks of heart disease, heart attacks and strokes. One study shows people sleeping under six hours nightly have a 20% higher risk of heart attacks.
A single lost hour won’t cause a heart attack, but the harm piles up. Bad sleep habits can lead to weight gain, high blood pressure and other heart problems. Experts point out sleep regularity matters more than sleep length. People with changeable bedtime habits have over twice the risk of cardiovascular disease. Those aged 35+ with one-hour bedtime differences each night face a 30%-50% higher risk of heart disease and diabetes.
Long-term circadian disorder harms blood pressure control. Night-shift workers have a 17% higher rate of heart disease. These effects may not appear immediately. If you always have trouble with sleep, turn to sleep doctors for expert help.
( )37. What does the 2025 large study find out?
A. Heart attacks rise sharply right after the time change.
B. There is no obvious increase in heart attacks after the time change.
C. Heart attacks happen more often in the months after the change.
D. The time change makes more people go to hospital in March.
( )38. What does the underlined phrase “piles up” in Paragraph 5 most probably mean?
A. Disappears slowly. B. Grows gradually. C. Comes out suddenly. D. Stays the same.
( )39. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A. Sleep length is more important than sleep regularity.
B. Night-shift workers are less likely to have heart disease.
C. People with irregular sleep habits face a higher risk of heart disease.
D. Americans have used daylight saving time since 1996.
( )40. Which is the best title for the passage?
A. How to Get Better Sleep B. The History of Daylight Saving Time
C. Why Americans Feel Sleepy in March D. Daylight Saving Time and Heart Health
