On April 26, 2024, the Shenzhou-18 spacecraft was successfully launched, carrying three astronauts to China’s Tiangong Space Station. The mission officer, Ye Guangfu, has captured widespread attention with his amazing journey.
Born in 1980 in Chengdu, Sichuan province, Ye Guangfu once dreamed of becoming a bus driver. But a sudden encounter changed his life. In 1997, as a high school student, he watched a live broadcast of the return of Hong Kong. The impressive sight of the military planes made him very interested in flying. In 1998, he passed all the tests and entered the Air Force Flying College. He finally became an excellent fighter pilot with rich experience.
Ye was selected into the second generation of astronauts in 2010.To prepare for space, he had extremely challenging training. In a desert survival training, he and his teammates had to live on limited food and water for 48 hours. His first space mission came in October 2021, when he was part of the Shenzhou-13 crew. During that mission, he became the first Chinese astronaut to use a robotic arm for extravehicular (太空船外的)operations. Now, as the officer of Shenzhou-18, he is leading a newer team to continue exploring the secrets of space.

Parents and teachers often find the teenage years challenging. Scientists now have a clearer explanation for this: the way teens act is closely linked to their brain development.
Although our brains reach nearly adult size by age six, they are not fully developed. In fact, the brain continues to change until around age 25. During the teenage years, it goes through significant changes, much like a computer system being upgraded. This process helps us better control our impulses (冲动) and understand rules. However, because the teenage brain is still a “work in progress,” it sometimes leads to impulsive behaviors.
Research shows that teenagers are more likely to take risks. One key reason is that their brains respond to rewards more strongly. When thinking about potential rewards, a teen’s brain produces more pleasure-creating chemicals than an adult brain does. This makes rewards seem more valuable than risks and makes new experiences feel more exciting.
The teen brain also finds social connections particularly rewarding. Teens feel a strong need to meet new people and build friendships. Scientists suggest this helps them get used to future social situations and contributes to life success.
While this strong wish for rewards can sometimes lead to poor choices, it also encourages teens to try new things and become independent. In the end, these brain changes help prepare teenagers to step out on their own.
21. How does the writer introduce the topic of the teenage brain?
A. By telling a personal story about a teenager.
B. By showing the results of scientific research.
C. By using a famous saying from a brain scientist.
D. By asking questions to the readers.
22. According to Paragraph 3, which of the following title is the most suitable description for the chart?
A. Brain size comparison
B. Ability to control behavior
C. Pleasure chemical production
D. Time spent on social activities
23. Why are teenagers more likely to take risks according to the passage?
A. They have a better understanding of rules.
B. They produce chemicals that make them feel good.
C. They care less about the possible results of their actions.
D. They receive more encouragement from their friends.
24. According to Paragraph 4, why do scientists believe the teen brain encourages social behavior?
A. Because teenagers are too young to stay alone.
B. Because it makes teenagers forget about taking risks.
C. Because it is a way to prepare them for future adult life.
D. Because it helps teenagers to control their impulses better.
25. What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage?
A. To warn parents about the dangers of teen risks.
B. To encourage teenagers to be more independent.
C. To compare the brains of teenagers and adults.
D. To explain the influence of the growing teen brain.

When eating out in a restaurant, you’d better say “Check the bill, please” instead of “Bring me the bill, waiter!” Another magic word (or phrase) is “thank you”.
